Criminals are put in jail cells for their whole life. Why should innocent people have to pay tax dollars for them to stay in jail, when they are going to die anyway? I don't mean to be harsh, but the economy now is bad. Should it just be death row for these criminals? They made the mistake, if it was even a mistake... why should WE pay?

I agree! Why do we have to feed and house those who have done crimes why not just leave them in filth so as to think twice of going to jail. Then just as you said our economy is in shambles what better way than to pay millions dollars on those going to death row confused

because they would riot and escape and then be worse criminals
plus its horrible and inhumane.
Corrections and law enforcement are important enough to pay for. There is no such thing as a free lunch, nor are there volunteer prison guards. If you like to be safe than you will live with it.
If it really bothers you, look into privatisation of prisons, where they are run as for-profit companies, and therefore use the motivation of profit to maximize efficiency. I personally don't like this though.
