Japan has just as many colours as anywhere else, and they need to talk about them. On with the words!
colour - iro
red - aka
green - midori
purple- murasaki
white - shiro
blue - ao
black - kuro
yellow - kiiro
gold colour - kiniro
brown - chairo
peach colour - momoiro
pink - pinku (written in katakana)
grey - gurei (written in katakana)
You'll notice that a lot of these colours end on o. To change any -o colour to a verb, add an i.
EXAMPLE!
ao means blue
aoi means "is blue"
Culture note for you - in Japan, the "go" light on traffic lights is not green. It is blue. Even in places where the lights are green, they still refer to them as "ao".
This is a useful video for learning the colours. You can ignore the kanji if you want, but it will pronounce them for you and repeat them over and over.
