Thuraya rose early and was wondering around the pride. The cub was getting older day by day and she knew soon that the day would come that she would be told she would be leaving her father's pride and become a banu to the pad of her father's choice. It was a day that she wasn't sure if she was more excited about or nervous. Finding a nice tree to lay under Thuraya settled herself down and hummed to herself. Thuraya was a happy go luckly little girl, never having had to worry about much. She was born to a large family with a father who was loving pad to all his children as well as his wives. Nesrin, who happened to be lying on the other side of the tree, had been resting there for about an hour, day dreaming about lions in faraway lands. With her head in the clouds, at first she was completely unaware of the other cub. When Thuraya started humming, Nesrin blinked in surprise and turned around. Something blue was sitting on the other side of the tree. Nesrin looked around nervously. Should she go?

Thuraya was in her own little world till she heard someone move on the other side of the tree. She scrammbled quickly to her feet and wondered to the other side of the tree where she was a pink cub roughly the same age as her laying there. A wide smile grew across the cubs face. "Hi there!" she said with a smile on her face. Thuraya realized she had never met this cub before and was excited at the chance to make friends with someone new. Her father always told her that it was very important for her to make friends and connections with the other females in the pride, one day she would have to help run a harem with them, and she needed to learn how to be responsible and work with others. Nesrin shrank and curled her tail around her back legs, startled by Thuraya's enthusiastic greeting. Normally cubs outside her family simply ignored her. That was the way she liked it. "Oh, hello..." she murmured, unsure of what to do next. She shifted her front paws awkwardly. "Um, what's your name?"

Thuraya sat down curling her tail around her prettily. "My name is Thuraya, I am a daughter of the pad called Achal." she was very proud of her father, and where she came from, she was the daughter of the beybanu to top things off, but as a daughter that didn't make a huge difference. "I haven't seen you around before. Truth it I haven't really tried to make friends before. What is your name, who is your family." To Thuraya family and linage was very important, it told you who you were came from.
Thuraya sure talked a lot. Nesrin waited until she was done, wanting to be polite and not interrupt. “Oh… I’m Nesrin. My family is – well, there’s Vizier Tariq, Mama Ukoo, Mama Orah and Mama O’tep.” And then there was her real mother, the one who broke the rules. Nesrin didn’t like to talk about her. She knew that she had a father outside the pride, which was shameful, so if she knew who he was she wouldn’t want to talk about him either. She also had brothers and sisters. There were so many that there was just no way she could ever name them all.

Thuraya nodded she knew of Vizier Tariq of course, he was a Vizier and therefore an important member of the pride. She also happened to know Orah, she had met her a couple of days ago and had a quite a lovely conversation with her. "Ah I know your Mama Orah, she is a very lovely lioness." Thuraya said, again thinking that to compliments one family were a compliment to one. "You must be very proud to be the daughter of one of the Vizars, I am sure you will belong to a wonderful harem one day." Thuraya was very excited to have been making a friend that came from a importnant family, she had no clue of what the other cubs past really was.
Nesrin’s ears drooped. She almost didn’t say anything. On the other hand, it would be bad to mislead Thuraya when she would probably find out the truth eventually. “Well… he’s not actually my father. I don’t want to talk about it, though.”
When it came to her family, Nesrin had nothing to be proud of. She looked down and made a little pattern in the dirt with her paws.

Thuraya frowned and looked at the other cub, she was very sorry that she had upset the other cub and now she was worried that she may have hurt her chance of having a new friend. "Well he may not be your actual dad but you are in his harem and that still counts for something." she said with a smile hoping that that would help the other cub some. "I have siblings in my family whose mother is not a part of the pride, my daddy brought them back here. I think it happens a lot, don't worry about it too much." Thuraya knew that this cubs story was a little different and that it was her mother that was faulty... something that probably wouldn't be recieved well by others. But to Thuraya it didn't make a huge difference.
“Really?” Nesrin’s hope died quickly. If Thuraya’s father brought the cubs back to the pride that must mean they were his offspring. Nesrin’s mother had her cubs with a male outside the pride. No male other than her pad was allowed to touch her, yet she had willingly submitted herself to the outsider’s desires. It was a terrible crime. Nesrin sighed softly. “I think that’s different. Your father is a pad.”

Thuraya frowned it upset her that her friend had figured out the difference so quickly.... "Well," she began not totally sure where she was going to go with this, "its not your fault!" Thuraya nodded, that seemed like a good thing to say. "Your mom made the mistake before you were born, and well you can't be blamed for that can you... as long as you are a good Banu here in the pride things should be ok." she nodded and spoke as if she had authority of this topic.
Nesrin glanced up from her drawing. Her tail tightened around her body and she looked away again, feeling embarrassed.
"Thanks, but I really don't want to talk about it," she said gently. She knew Thuraya was only trying to help. Trouble was, talking about her mother just wasn't helping at this point. She felt even less comfortable because Thuraya was still basically a stranger to her.

Thuraya frowned, "I uh I uh..." Thuraya frowned very angry at herself that she had clearly upset her new friend, she wanted so badly to make new friends and this definetly wasn't the way to do it. "I didnt mean to offend." Thuraya said, her ears back. "Well I don't have any friends my age, and I would really like some more. What do you say we be friends.... maybe we can play sometimes, games like tag are really hard to play on your own." she sad with a sheepish grin, hoping that maybe she could salvage this potential friendship.
Nesrin looked up in surprise. She thought she was being a nuisance since Thuraya seemed so uncomfortable around her. Maybe it was because she was so quiet all the time. There always seemed to be something wrong with her.
“Are you sure? I mean, that would be alright if you really wanted to.”

Thuraya smiled, "Yes I am sure I want more friends and I think you would be a great start!" Thuraya wasn't judgemental at all, so there wasn't an issue in her mind that this cub may be slightly tainted or a bad choice of friends. "We should meet up all the time and we will play games, we are pretty well the same age, we can do it all togehter. I don't know about you but I am nervous about being an adult and a banu in a harem that isn't my fathers."
Nesrin felt a little anxious about losing her alone time, although she kept that to herself. As long as she had quiet time once in a while she would be alright. Maybe Thuraya wouldn’t mind just relaxing with her once in a while, looking at the clouds, watching the tide come in. It might even be kind of nice having someone to relax with like she did with her brothers and sisters in the den. She shrugged at Thuraya. “I don’t know. I’m sure it won’t be so bad.” Anything had to be better than living with Traiq. She hated what he did to kajira. Everyone in the pride seemed to think there was something wrong with him and she had watched him do terrible, hurtful things to females.

Thuraya kept a smile on her face, "Well I will give you some time to think about it. Maybe I will see you around soon, nothing has to be decided now." She hoped that by giving Nesrin some room that the other cub would decide that she wanted to be her friend. "I should get going now though, daddy will be wondering what trouble I have gotten myself into." smiling the blue cub turned and began to walk away offering only one backward glance towards the cub she hoped would become her new friend
Nesrin nodded in understanding and started to lie back down under the three. She felt grateful that her father hardly paid any attention to her. For one thing it gave her a great feeling of independence. Even though she was often in a gloomy mood, it wasn’t because she was lonely. She felt quite content with solitude. “Alright. If you want to see me again, you can come by this tree. I like to rest here when it’s hot out.”
