----- Firekin Megaplot -----
---- Murder Mystery ----
--- Grand Finale ---

Introduction...

Guided by an elderly ex-Firekin – by the name of Iroh – six rogues journey across the Motoujamii Desert to seek acceptance amongst the infamous Firekin. After many days of travel the band arrive amidst unusual hustle and bustle. For, in an attempt to unify Simo and Safi, the rulers of the pride have set into motion a tournament to help ease troubled minds and hearts.

Seeing that the new arrivals were a promising bunch, Kidondo and No permitted them temporary accommodation until the tournament’s completion. Once the event had been concluded the rogues would be given the opportunity to find themselves duellists to fight for their right to stay.

However, with the following dawn, the start of the tournament brought with it, also, a terrible revelation. One of the rogues, Epesi, has been found dead. His wounds; cuts to the face and a fatal slash across the throat, suggested a swift death. But finding the murderer would not be so easy for there are many in the pride who had both the motive and the means.

Kimacho – the leader of the rogues – has now taken it upon himself to set about questioning those with possible motives, including his own group.

The time for justice has arrived. Evidence has been gathered and now the curtains draw for our final act…

Setting the Scene...

Kimacho arrives to meet with Kidondo and No to finally put a close on the mystery that has affected so many lions in the pride. Those involved have also gathered to hear the verdict. The atmosphere is tense and nervous, everything now hanging on the detective’s every word.

THE SUSPECTS:

- Tepe
Tepe is first seen comforting his mother after the news that her mate - his adopted father - had been murdered within the pride lands. It's clear that he cares very deeply for her and tries hard to bring some comfort during this particularly difficult time. The next time Tepe is seen, he is being bullied by an adolescent Firekin by the name of Azar'bijan, who is also a suspect for murder. Azar teases him about being a 'mommy's boy' and mocks him for being weak and not able to land a single hit on him, eventually provoking Tepe into a rage. Luckily, Nasiha intervenes and breaks them up before a fight can break up. Nasiha's distraction allows Tepe to slink off. Later, Tepe returns to see his mother. His mother, Siri'wasii, notices that her son looks a little off and decides not to mention the attack made on Vlam. Tepe confides in her that he doesn't think the Firekin are going to give him a chance to prove himself and she gives him kind words to encourage him, improving his mood somewhat.

- Nasiha PLEASE NOTE: Nasiha is now to be owned and RPed by Ecavi.
Nasiha is seeking Mtenga, clearly convinced that he is the one to blame for Epesi's murder. She confronts the large male, asking whether it was him who killed Epesi. It also becomes clear that this might not be the first time Mtenga has killed someone - if he was indeed responsible. It also seems that Nasiha knows of this. Mtenga reacts with annoyance and anger, clearly hurt about the fact that him opening up to her about his past has made him a suspect in her eyes. Nasiha continues to press the matter, telling him that she understands that sometimes he does things without him meaning to. Mtenga reacts badly to the accusations, growing more and more angry. Nasiha tries to tell him that she's only trying to help and he tells her to help by shutting up. Eventually she has to leave, frightened knowing Mtenga could snap, but she blurts an apology before leaving. Later, Nasiha comes across Azar'bijan and Tepe who are about to fight with one another. She chides Azar'bijan for being dishonourable, picking on those weaker than him and threatens to tell the others that she caught him stirring trouble, Proud that she scared off the Firekin, she turns back only to find Tepe has gone. After this encounter, she decides she has to find Kimacho and tell him what she knows about Mtenga. She tells Kimacho that Mtenga has killed before. She tells Kimacho of Mtenga's past, explaining that he can't control these rages. And, after Kimacho assures her that this might not be the case, Nasiha apologises, overcome with guilt for keeping this from him and for what she had done to Mtenga. She then takes her leave. A little while later, Nasiha is seen running from pride lands, distraught and clearly troubled. Kenna, who has been looking into this mystery, tracks her down, confronting her on where she is going. Then, unconvinced, she drags Nasiha back to pride lands to face judgement.

- Mtenga
Mtenga is confronted by Nasiha who asks him whether he was the one who killed Epesi. He reacts angrily and hurt, telling her that he though he could trust her with his past. She continued to question him, saying that she wants to help him, and he snaps, yelling at her to go. Later, he is confronted by Kenna, a female who has been keeping a very close eye on him since he entered the lands. Mtenga attempts to be polite. Kenna, however, is in no mood to listen and demands to know where he was at the time of Epesi's death, goading him. Tensions run to boiling point and eventually, after much shouting and anger, Mtenga replies that he doesn't remember where he was. Later Mtenga is confronted by one of Kenna's daughters, Serafina. She, like him, is unable to control her rage and after Mtenga refuses to answer her questions about Epesi's death, the two are locked in a rage-driven fight.

- Siri’wasii
Siri'wasii is grief-stricken over the realisation that her mate, Epesi, has been murdered. It is clear that the two, though not a perfect couple, still shared a bond between them. Tepe comes to comfort her and their conversation brings to light that Epesi and Siri used to fight a lot. Tepe seems, however, to bring her some comfort and by the end of the rp she has picked up a little. The next time we meet Siri'wasii, she is approaching Vlam - who she seems to already know. The two greet one another and after some suggestive chatter, she follows him to his den to spend some time alone with him. Siri'wasii then takes a moment to visit her son and notices that he is not being himself. Because of this she decides not to tell him the news that Vlam has been attacked and asks him what is wrong. He confides that he doesn't think that the Firekin will ever give him a chance but she encourages him to keep trying and it is clear her words mean a lot to him. Siri'wasii is then confronted by Kenina, who tells the widow that she is well aware of Siri's flirtacious ways and demands her to admit to hurting Vlam and killing Epesi. Siri is horrified at the declarations and tells Kenina not to spread word about her affair due to it looking very incriminating. Kenina tells her that Kimacho is already aware of it and, horrified, Siri’wasii runs off to try and think up some excuses about her behaviour.

- Serafina
Searfina is approached by Kimacho after being pointed in that direction by Azar'bijan. It is clear from the offset that Serafina could quite easily be provoked into a berserker rage, her emotions dipping from enraged to calm in seconds. When told that Epesi is dead, she seems happy about it, but annoyed that there won't be an opportunity for a rematch with him, not hiding how she felt about Epesi at all. Kenina soon arrives on the scene, telling Kimacho that Serafina has a bad temper and it soon becomes clear that Serafina looks ready and willing to take orders from her smaller sibling. After short conversation Kenina points out that she has seen Vlam flirting with Siri'wasii. Later Serafina is seen confronting Mtenga about his involvement in the murder after having heard about the clash between him and her mother, Kenna. She, like Mtenga, is unable to control her rage and after Mtenga refuses to answer her questions about Epesi's death, the two become locked in a rage-driven fight.

- Kenina
Kenina walks in on Kimacho and Serafina talking about Serafina's involvement in Epesi's death. Serafina, a berserker female, is calmed by Kenina's presence, indicating that if she were guilty of the crime, the two were probably working together. She points Kimacho in the direction of Vlam who was seen flirting with Siri'wasii whilst Epesi was still alive. Much later on, Kenina then goes to confront Siri'wasii about her flirtatious behaviour. She tells the widow that she is well aware of Siri's flirtacious ways and demands her to admit to hurting Vlam and killing Epesi. Siri is horrified at the declarations and tells Kenina not to spread word about her affair due to it looking very incriminating. Kenina tells her that Kimacho is already aware of it and, horrified, Siri’wasii runs off to try and think up some excuses about her behaviour.

- Azar’bijan
Azar'bijan is discovered by Epesi's body by Kimacho. He is covered in Epesi's blood. Azar is in quite a state which is an unusual trait for the lion who usually speaks and acts so confidently. He blabbers on, seeming to dig himself further and further into a hole, until he finally blurts that he knows the one who did it. He first blames Tepe, saying that the other male was looking to become leader of the rogue troop, but Kimacho interjects and says that such a thing is not possible as Epesi was not the leader. So, in a not-so-smooth move, Azar puts the blame on Serafina and her sister Kenina. He gives them a description of the girls and also points out that, in case he is mistaken, that Kimacho should question Mtenga. The next time we meet Azar, he is bullying Tepe for being weak and a 'mommy's boy'. Tepe snaps into a rage but before the two can fight, Nasiha interrupts. She questions Azar's honour and threatens to tell the others about how he was caught trying to fight with a member of the rogue group. This finally shuts up Azar and he leaves. In the finally rp with Azar'bijan, he is seen by one of his friends, Ursa, who confronts him and tells him that she knows where he was when Epesi was killed. Azar, suddenly angry, demands that she'd not tell anyone, threateningly. Ursa tells him that the truth needs to be heard and after a moment Azar agrees, telling her that he just needs a couple of days to tell them.

- Vlam
Vlam, a confident adolescent Firekin is relaxing when Siri'wasii appears. It seems that they have met before and, after some suggestive conversation, the pair head off to the den to share some time alone together. Vlam confesses to Siri that he is glad Epesi was killed so that she is now available. However, a short time later, Vlam is attacked from behind and knocked unconscious. It is clear that the attacker intended to kill him but was disturbed before he could finish the job. Vlam is now being cared for by Ea, but is unable to speak, meaning that until he does, still nothing is known about who the killer is.

Well, this was it.

Kidondo rose onto all fours and stretched with the motion of one who is trying to contemplate the actions of the next few moments that would follow. He already knew what he was going to do, where he was going to go and who was going to be gathered. But what he knew had little value when compared to what he didn't know. Hopefully, before the day was out, the 'not knowing' would finally be over and they'd be able to put this whole mess behind them. It was a sad thing, after all, that such a thing had happened within the pride and he dearly hoped that none of his members were responsible for the hardships that the rogue band had faced whilst under their care as invited guests.

After all...he would be one of the group of lions and lionesses who would be deciding on a suitable punishment - alongside Regent No and the Magistrates, of course. And, what sort of punishment would befit a lion who had murdered in cold blood and then gone to attempt to kill another only a couple of days later?

He shook his head, displeased. Kidondo had always been one for justice but being a Firekin - and a leader at that - made these decisions particularly difficult. As he had always known, there was only so much change people like the Firekin could take and they would expect their leaders and the council to take strong and decisive action. There would be no place for words once the accused had been proven guilty.

He knew already what the action would be and, though it bothered him a little, he knew there was nothing else to be done about it. An accident was one thing, but murder was murder, and there was no excuse for it. Especially not in the lands of a warrior pride. He had to keep face. He had to remain strong. There were good times in leadership and bad ones too, but no matter what happened, he would battle through. Kidondo was not weak and he was prepared for what was to unfold. He would meet it head on and he would conquer it.

Besides, he wouldn't be alone in this. In fact, he had never been alone. He had No and she was his strength, a shoulder to lean on.

He moved quicker now, hastening his pace so that he might be among the first to arrive. They all knew the time and the place to meet and, whether they liked it or not, they would sit through the judgement that Kimacho would bring to pass.

Some might have thought it an unwise decision to allow an outsider to lead on this. But, in fact, Kidondo believed firmly that Kimacho was the best candidate for the job. He could be trusted to look at the situation through as neutral eyes as possible, despite having ties to the rogue group. Kidondo had always believed himself to be a good judge of character and he already had high hopes for the flame-eyed lion. What interested him, also, was the fact that Kenna had enlisted herself to help, even if it was 'unnofficial help'. He had to admit that he still found it impossible to trust the female, though he hated himself for it. Negative feelings such as mistrust always left a bitter taste in his mouth.

He was closing in on the meeting place now and, when all were finally assembled, alongside him would sit Regent No, the Magistrates the suspects and of course, Kimacho himself.

All was in the paws of the outsider now but, oddly, Kidondo felt no apprehension about this. He was certain there would be a conclusion.

No didn't like to think she had a heavy hand. She liked to consider things thoughtfully, preferably at a distance. She rarely liked to enter into a situation where she was not adequately prepared. But although she considered things at length, when it came to matters of security; when it came to matters of her pride, her gut reaction was to act first and question later.

Someone needed to be blamed for this. And No was out for blood.

And perhaps, she felt this way mostly because she knew Kidondo was likely agonizing. Not that he was wavering. She knew and trusted that he would always guide them faithfully. But he would be the noble one in this matter. He would consider the angles. He would consider Kimacho's findings thoughtfully, and truthfully. And she could be the force behind the decision.

Even as she moved towards the meeting place, her muscles were tensed and her tail whipping. An attack on her pride cut her as bitterly as if it had been an attack on her own cubs. Vlam had been the final straw. He might have been an idiot youth, but she had seen him grow from a small cub into a capable adult. Now, he lay festering in some cave while Ea attended him.

Her maw twitched as she picked up the pace. She could see Kidondo in the distance, and rushed to meet his stride. She didn't bother for introductions or pleasantries. "I have an intense dislike for dramatics," she remarked bitterly. "Hopefully Kimacho's results are as promising as he and Kenna suggest."

Either way, it was unlikely No was to be seen in a good mood until this was resolved.

No one knew Kidondo better than his mate, No. No one. He knew that she would know what thoughts were running through his mind and that settled him somewhat. Settled him where it might have unnerved others. That being so, he did not have to share a single word with her for her to understand what was going on in that head of his when it came to situations such as this.

But what was this to what they had already been through? A grain of sand in the desert, that's what.

Even still, he wouldn't take this lightly. There had been death and...pain. Much pain and upset. This would end today one way or another.

He faltered a little in his hasty stride as he heard the steady rhythm of quick-paws approaching. He knew the sound of her step and rumbled a greeting as the gap between them closed, turning an ear to listen as she spoke. At her words a grim smile scratched its way across his face, but it seemed to put nothing but shadow in his eyes.

"The Firekin has always had its fair share." He grunted, thinking on what was to come. He was unsure, just as most others were, how this event would play out. He could only hope that it rain its course smoothly. But that was a high hope indeed.

"Patience runs thin. They'd better have something for us else things could end up getting nasty." He was certain that they did, however, else why call them for this meeting? No, he didn't think they had need to worry about what would happen if the murderer hadn't been found.

A few strides later and the meeting place appeared before them, a place where a lot of things could change for a lot of lions...

"Unfortunately so. I amend my statement. I can't stand unnecessary dramatics," She quipped. Even amidst her agitation, his words always made her grin. Feeling him at her side made her all the more confident. And, perhaps slightly more decisive on her temperament. "And if they have nothing for us then...well, there's an obvious course of action."

And that? Purge the recently joined rogues from their land. As for the other three? Well, if the murdering continued then the whole lot of them would find themselves in a very hasty exodus. No did not take chances. And this had gone on long enough.

Her shoulders wrenched as she moved. What worried her more was the potential for more...political implications involving these murders. Kenna's assistance was somewhat settling. It could have easily been a smokescreen, of course... but somehow, she took Kenna to be a bit more upfront about her backstabbing.

"But, we'll be optimistic. At least for the moment," her voice thrummed lowly. They were nearing the meeting spot now.

PART ONE (massive wall of text ho!)

Kimacho was as eager as the Firekin Regents were for this to be over. Half of him enjoyed the challenges that murders presented, pushing his mind to its limits and testing his ability to judge character. The other half of him thoroughly chastised the first for taking any kind of enjoyment in the end of another lion's life, especially this one's. Epesi had been one of theirs. One of his. No matter which way he looked at it, for pleasure or for duty, he owed it to Epesi to find his killer above all else.

And so he had spent the night in silent contemplation, piecing to together the facts he knew for certain and the hypotheses he had come to because of them. He agonized over every word spoken to him, ever flick of the tail he'd been quick enough to catch, and when the sun began to crest over the horizon he had come to his conclusion. The dark lion didn't smile or jump for joy. He merely rubbed a paw down his face and sighed. It was time to finish this.

He made the journey to the designated location with slow, measured steps, nothing about his posture suggesting that he had just solved the mystery of Epesi's death and Vlam's almost death. But that was his way. There would be time for his theatrics, as Nasiha had once called them, later. Right now, even as he walked, he was reviewing what he was going to say. How much to reveal, how much to keep secret, and how to make sure that the killer didn't escape before their turn came took a great deal of thought. Today, however, it was unlikely that the killer could get out unnoticed. Kimacho couldn't help a small smile at the sight of Kenna, the lioness already at their place of trial. No one would run under her watch.

There was time for a quiet exchange of pleasantries, nothing serious or particularly revealing, while the pair waited for the Regents to arrive. Kidondo and No did not disappoint. Kimacho gave each a small bow of his head before settling down on his haunches. The others would begin to arrive soon. Until then, all he had to do was wait.

~

At last, when all had gathered, Kimacho rose to his feet and stood before them. He cleared his throat to silence the murmurs of conversation, waiting until he had the group's complete attention before speaking, "I am certain you all know why you're here today, so I will try not to dwell too long on the fact. A lion has died in our midst, murdered by someone in this pride. It was neither an accident nor a result of self defence. It was, as I say, purposeful murder. Our murderer did not stop at one. Had they been successful, they would have killed a second lion. While the first to die was not of Firekin blood, the second target was, and thus it is the responsibility of all to bring the murderer to justice."

He paused a moment, and then moved to address each lion individually, "Mtenga, Nasiha, Siri'wasii, Tepe, Serafina, Kenina, Azar'bijan, and Vlam, who unfortunately could not be with us at this time. You are all suspects in the murder of Epesi, mate of Siri'wasii, and the attempted murder of Vlam. Whether you possessed the means, the motive, or both to commit both crimes has yet to be seen. If you are the murderer, you will be brought to justice. If you are not the murderer, you will be free to resume your daily lives. I will begin with those who others were quick to blame."

Kimacho met Mtenga's gaze evenly, holding it as he spoke. "Mtenga, you were the first to be suspected of the crimes due to your temper. With your strength and lack of restraint you could have easily killed Epesi and done serious damage to Vlam. You also have a history of violence so terrible that it frightened Nasiha into believing you were the murderer. However, despite your capabilities, there is no reason for you to kill Epesi, much less try to kill Vlam. Epesi travelled with us long before we came to the Firekin lands, and there would have been plenty of opportunities to kill him then. He had nothing that you coveted, he left you to your own devices, and even if Vlam had managed to anger you you would have done much more damage. Mtenga is not the murder." The dark lion's eyes moved to the next candidate, fixing Serafina with a similar gaze.

"Much like Mtenga, you Serafina possess nearly unrivalled strength and the capabilities to use it. You're powerful, even at a young age, and you had a grudge against Epesi for beating you in a duel. Those in the Firekin believed you were capable of murder, especially after your loss, and were quick to point their paws in your direction. While you had the motive and the means, the kills were not your style. You take a great deal of pride in your fighting ability, and therefore it's extremely unlikely you would have snuck up on your opponent to kill them. Furthermore, you would be equally unlikely to keep such battle prowess a secret. I believe if you had killed Epesi you would not have denied it later on. There is only one reason you would have killed a lion against your style and kept your mouth shut and that reason is your sister."

"Kenina has proven to be both cunning and controlling, able to reign in her sister and focus her energies. Despite this, however, she lacked the motive for killing Epesi and harming Vlam. Serafina did not kill Epesi and injure Vlam on her own and she was not asked to do so by Kenina." So far, three out of eight of the suspects were deemed innocent, two from Firekin and one from his own group. He would have to make sure to keep the numbers evenly weighted lest someone accuse him of leaving his own until last. The more he made it clear they were equally capable of murder the more likely the Regents would respect his neutrality in the future. Kimacho had to prove he was as willing to incriminate his own cousin as he was to incriminate a Firekin. With another pause to organize his thoughts, the lion pressed on.

"Removing those who had superior strength, we then turn our attention to those who have the most suspicion shone on them. Azar'bijan, the lion caught at the scene of the crime, and Nasiha who fled before judgement could be reached. Azar was quick to try and point me in another direction, making sure to scatter suspicion as far as he could reach. While he had no apparent motive, he also lacked an alibi for the time of the murder, and his discovery of the body was condemning at best. It was not until recently that a lioness came forward and confirmed his whereabouts at the time of Epesi's murder. His time down at the watering hole removes him from the pool of suspects, as does his relationship with the second victim. Azar'bijan possesses no motive to harm his brother and none to kill Epesi. He is not the murderer."

He forced himself not to hesitate, letting his gaze slide without pause from Azar to his cousin. She had made a stupid move, incriminating herself with all the rest. Kimacho would have dearly loved to remove her from the suspect list at the very beginning, knowing she wasn't capable of murdering someone like that. But this trial required that everyone's innocence be proven, and after her final stunt the lion was left with no choice but to point out her guilt. "Nasiha fled, as stated before, in what she knew would be perceived as a guilty act. While she is guilty, she is not guilty of murder. After revealing secrets told to her by Mtenga, it is my belief that she tried to flee the pride not only because she regretted betraying his trust, but also to bring attention to her in the event that Mtenga was the killer. Despite her prowess as a warrior, she is a kind soul. Both this and her loyalty would have made her unable to kill Epesi. Nasiha has committed no crime."

PART TWO

Five out of eight. They were nearing the home stretch now. The last three would be the trickiest of the bunch, each with their own particular quirks that made them all equally likely and unlikely to have committed the murders. It was time to delve deeper, beyond the simple murders, into the secrets held by the three remaining candidates.

"I have left the last three candidates unaddressed until now for a reason. This reason is very simple. These three are connected in more complicated ways than the others. The son, the mate, and the lover." If there were any surprised whispers Kimacho chose to patiently ignore them. "Vlam is the easiest to remove from the equation. While it is true that he could have killed Epesi to stand a chance with Siri, it is impossible for him to have done that kind of damage to himself after the fact. I am also certain that the one who killed Epesi is also the one who attacked Vlam. Despite the fact that he and Siri were involved, he did not kill Epesi."

Now there were only two. Kimacho's claws dug into the sand below, holding firm in his resolve to out the truth. The two left were from his own group, the lions that he liked to think of as family. It had been no Firekin who killed Epesi and then turned on their own. It had been a rogue all alone.

He addressed the lioness first. "Epesi was your mate, Siri'wasii, even though you didn't always see eye to eye. Killing him here would have been a good way to get rid of him for a stronger male. It would have been easy to pin the blame on someone from a fighting pride. Epesi was a good fighter. He'd beaten Firekin in fights. Why wouldn't one come back and take revenge on him? Or perhaps you feared that he would ruin our chances of joining the pride? He could be irritating, after all. Were you worried he would anger someone important and get us all kicked out?"

Without giving her time to answer his questions he moved on to Tepe. "Of all of us, you would have been the most unhappy here, Tepe. You knew you would be bullied. You knew you would have to try harder than all of us to fit in. You've never been a good fighter. But you loved your mother. You would have gone anywhere just to be with her. Even though she adopted you she was good to you. She kept you safe. She was more important to you than anything else in the world. But did you love her enough to kill for her? You knew Epesi wasn't the best mate for her. You could have done better. You weren't strong but what was strength in the face of love? Epesi didn't love her as much as you did, so he had to go. Once he was out of the way, she would come to you and realize what she'd been missing all along."

"But things didn't go as planned, did they? Instead of finding comfort in you, she found comfort in another lion, a younger lion. He flirted with her, and instead of turning her away she let him stay with her in her den. Someone else got in your way again and so they had to die too. How many would have to die? However many got in between you and her?" Kimacho's mouth was drawn into a perfectly straight line as he faced the grey lion head on. Though he continued to stare at Tepe, he raised his voice to address those gathered. "The attacks were not done head on, ruling out those of the group who were proud and capable fighters. Only a lion who knew his foes were stronger than him would attack stealthily to ensure victory. Mtenga and Serafina, under Kenina's orders or not, would have ripped their prey to shreds. Though both Azar and Nasiha sported guilty consciences they were not capable of murdering their brother or their friend. Similarly, Vlam could not have harmed himself. While Siri'wasii was not always on the best of terms with her mate, she would not have attacked Vlam as he was comforting her. She did grieve the loss of her mate, no matter how she felt about him some days."

"I thereby find Tepe guilty of the murder of Epesi and the attempted murder of Vlam in a vain attempt to secure the affections of his adopted mother for himself. This is my final verdict. His punishment rests in your paws."

It had been with with only slight trepidation that Tepe had come to the meeting area earlier in the day. To finally hear the killer revealed was both thrilling and frightening...who would it be? As one of the suspects he knew he would be scrutinized...But what day went by when that was not the case? He was small, he was weak, he was an outsider. He would be met with stares and sneers regardless of his innocence, and though it grated on his nerves, he would bear it as he always did.

He'd risen a bit late, and many were already in the meeting grounds when he slunk up. His fellow rogues, some smirking natives...at the end of the line of what he assumed were fellow suspects sat his mother. Emboldened by her presence he walked towards her, greeting her with soft words of reassurance that the day would go well and fond nuzzlings. That she was a suspect herself tore at his heart...Hadn't she felt enough grief all this time without being blamed herself? He bit back his ire as he took his seat alongside her. This had better not take long.

He listened stoically as Kimacho went down the line, weeding out his or that suspect. A few times he frowned, perhaps indicating that one he'd personally suspected had been cleared. As the lineup shortened down to three he grew tenser, watching the flame-tailed lion with intense interest. Vlam was cleared, and he let out a low growl. Did he think it was his mother after all?! Silently he flexed his claws, dragging the tips through the dirt. If they blamed her, he'd fight by her side. She hadn't been the culprit, she'd been the...the...

...The motive. He blinked, and Kimacho was staring right at him. "I thereby find Tepe guilty of the murder of Epesi and the attempted murder of Vlam in a vain attempt to secure the affections of his adopted mother for himself." Stunned, he sat rock still for a long moment. Him? They'd blamed HIM?! They claimed he'd....that he...and his mother...

...They KNEW!!

Perhaps if he'd been innocent he would have protested, debated the points, argued conjecture...but Tepe WAS guilty, and utterly distraught that his covetous love had been revealed to all, his deepest secret laid bare, he panicked. Eyes wide and maddened, he lunged, slipping past his mother without looking at her. His teeth closed on Nasiha's neck, just tight enough to restrain her, and he wrangled her body between his and the crowd as he slowly backed up. He trembled as he glanced from person to person in the crowd...

"...I did it..." His words were muffled by Nasiha's fur, and he dared not loosen his grip on her lest she pull away. "I did it for YOU, mother. You couldn't see. You fought! You were unhappy...I knew. I knew I could make you happy. I loved you Siri, not just as my mother...YOU made me do this. You...you told me you loved me. I could see it in your eyes. You must have loved me as I loved you! But you couldn't be free to show it...not until I killed Epesi...And then...and then!" He choked on a half-sob, unintentionally biting down harder, drawing the slightest bit of blood from his captive. "Then you betrayed me! I thought, she's testing me! So I did what you wanted...but I couldn't kill him, he was too strong...And now...now you're going to make me kill again mother!"

He glared around at those assembled. "You will let me go. And Siri too! If not...I swear I'll do it!" He began to back up again, slowly, dragging Nasiha with him, and motioning with his eyes for Siri to join him.

Kidondo listened as he had never listened before, snatching each name and awaiting the verdict with some sort of nervous anticipation. He knew now that Kimacho had found something. The male looked confident and seemed very much prepared in what he had been going to say.

He also realised, suddenly, how hard this was going to be for the lion; judging those he deemed close family. Kimacho was in a similar situation to himself and No in that respect, getting ready to face the moment when he would need to disown one of his own group. Or, possibly, in any case. Either way, the Regent could not help but admire the male then, for standing before the circle of Firekin and rogues and begin his speech so elegantly. Kimacho was most certainly one of those rogues who showed those 'traditional Firekin' that they should not be underestimated. This lion had a sharp mind and an observant eye for detail. A dangerous thing indeed.

He stayed close to No throughout, his side touching gently against hers, as if drawing strength from the contact, preparing himself mentally for what was about to unfold. For now he had no doubt that the murderer was amongst them and he feared the chaos that might erupt from the others once this conclusion was made.

Mtenga...innocent. Serafina...innocent. Kenina...innocent. He could not help but feel relieved that their names were scratched off the list, the reasons sound and certainly believable. Kimacho had certainly done his research.

And then he went on. Azar'bijan...innocent. Nasiha...also innocent.

So who was left, then? Only three left now.

His olive coloured eyes snapped to the faces of those who had yet to receive judgement, one - of course - being absent. Poor Vlam who had almost been killed. Poor Vlam who was currently being cared for by Ea, one of his more...rebellious children. And, as expected, Vlam was also scratched off of the list which meant that only two were left...

Siri'wasii and Tepe.

He eyed them both with a piercing glare, feeling a rise of anger in him even before the verdict was given. And, when it came, the Regent rose immediately onto his paws; fiery gaze snapping upon the youngest of the rogue group.

Tepe.

He took a step forwards, preparing to address the young male. This young murderer, when all of a sudden the chaos he had feared would erupt did just that.

Before anyone had even had enough time to process this shock announcement, the young male was on his paws. A flash of teeth and suddenly it seemed very likely there would be another casualty if something was not done to prevent it.

"Tepe!" His voice was low and warning but there was an urgency to it, a panic underlying that. He could not allow another to die upon these lands. But...if he moved...if he attempted to...

"Tepe, stop this now."

For once, Nasiha was forcing her emotions out of her expression but she wasn't sure how well she was managing it. She was uneasy. Dragged back in her attempt to flee the whole situation after everything she'd done and feeling guilty enough in the face of her cousin and in line with her friends, she needed to keep a straight face. She avoided looking directly at anybody until she heard Kimacho say Mtenga's name. She felt a fresh rush of guilt and worry and couldn't help but look over to where Mtenga sat. As Kimacho explained why Mtenga was not the murderer she felt a cold twist in her stomach. She'd damaged, if not destroyed, her friendship with Mtenga and she'd weakened the trust Kimacho had in her and she'd been wrong.. Her eyes went back to the sand as the list continued until her own name came. She managed to meet Kimacho's eyes as he explained everything she had done, not feeling any better hearing it from someone else. She very nearly looked away again until suddenly the remaining candidates were made clear and she realized there were only two more lions and both were sitting by her.

Confused and now openly showing it, she looked at Siri and Tepe, unable to fathom any excuse either would have to have killed Epesi. She knew how Siri was but she didn't believe she would do it and Tepe was their son, adopted but still their son- and not much of a fighter. But she listened to what Kimacho said and she looked back to him at exactly the wrong time, just as he pronounced Tepe was the murderer-- and just as there was a rush beside her and a sudden hold on her neck. She didn't even have time to yelp. She didn't struggle, rather she moved to make the process easier on her throat. She was a fighter but she knew better than to test someone so panicked and with such a serious hold on her. Her teeth gritted and her ears turned as Tepe sobbed a speech through her fur. Tepe had done it. Tepe, the one she'd stood up for, the one who'd seemed so unlikely..

She dared to resist being dragged back as Tepe made his demands but it didn't last. Nasiha couldn't make a move, she heard Kidondo's words to Tepe and had to trust that somehow she would be helped. Her red eyes finally moved from her attacker and darted around the group- stopping at Siri, the next nearest and the reason this was happening now.

No listened with growing frustration as the names were agonizingly listed off. She absorbed the information and the evidence, but the desire to cut to the chase- so to speak, was all but written on the black cat's face. She supposed every good detective deserved their monologue. Whether the audience was willing or not.

Her ears swung upwards when Kimacho finally got down to Vlam. Vlam had been involved with this female? Her mouth twitched. She supposed she wasn't surprised to hear that about Vlam- but she did not like the notion that this somehow could have been avoided with a little prudence. But as the detective continued, the implications became a bit more dire.

And then, as in all things, it got worse.

Tepe reacted fast, faster then No would have ever given the male credit for. She immediately rose to her feet, her eyes locking on the convicted. The young male had the lioness in his grasp. Her fur bristled. Up until that moment, she had viewed the rogues with suspision and discontent ever since they had arrived, bringing with them all this trouble. But now that all were vindicated- what Tepe held in his jaws was not a rogue. It was a firekin. A member of her pride.

She took a slow step forward, and then hesitated as if the sand held some sort of hidden trap. Teeth too close to the throat. They owed Nasiha restraint. But the rage building in the black cat was almost at the end of it's tolerance.

This was how Tepe repaid his friends? Hadn't this one spoken on his behalf?

She snarled low and deep, but held her position. "You dig your grave deeper," she warned.

Seeing first one regent then the other move towards him, the already terrified and on-edge Tepe took another step back. He bit, bit harder...One tooth drew blood, and he barely resisted killing the female right then. He had to escape. He had to use Nasiha to save himself and Siri! She was no good to him dead...

"No! YOU stop! Let us go or else!" His eyes were wide and maddened as he stared at Kidondo. "The only grave anyone will be digging is hers if you don't back off...back off!" He nearly released his prisoner in his fit at No. Didn't she know that she was the reason he was doing this? And her mate! They ALL had driven him to this! If only they'd listened, if only Siri'd been able to be with him...THEY had kept her from him! He KNEW it!

He felt Nasiha's resistence give out as he moved her back...he didn't know she'd stuck up for him; maybe if he had known he wouldn't have gone for her or treated her so roughly...But he didn't know, and now he didn't care. If she resisted him now he could only take it as her resisting his efforts to bring himself and Siri together. And for that she would suffer with the rest of them unless he was turned free with his dear, sweet Siri!

"Moth--Siri...come on. We're going now...They can't stop us anymore!"
