Anything to get away from her troubles. Kifa went to spend time with her only friend Amani. She padded quickly towards her friend's den trying to smile a bit. Suddenly she was stopped though, there was something sitting in her path starring up at her.
"Hi! You're Banu Kifaranga right? Momma says you can sing will you teach me please. Im Vashti!" Vashti stared up at Kifa smiling sweetly.
Well this wasn't the distraction she was looking for, but she could not refuse this cubs pleading eyes for some reason. "Yes I can sing and sure Ill teach you." Kifa said sitting down. "Lets see how to start. Vocal warm ups I suppose. Limber lions catch the slow gazelle! Sing that at the lowest you can and each to you repeat it sing it a little higher. Now try it." Kifa said with a smile.

"Limber lions.....catch the what?" Vashti made a face this was not a beautiful song for her to sing to a pad. "This will never impress my future pad." Vashti whined to Kifa feeling a little annoyed.
"One must crawl before they can run. Just do it before I get bored." Kifa said rolling her eyes and getting comfortable. "Or Ill make you do it for a longer period of time, your choice." She said giving Vashti a stern look.
"Awww.....this sucks." Vashti sighed making a face. "I really wanna learn a pretty song." She stuck her lower lip out but then rolled her eyes. "Limber lions catch the slow gazelle. Limber lions catch the slow gazelle! How long do I gotta sing this song!"
"Till I tell you to sing a different thing." Kifa replied in the same tune smiling just a bit. She remembered hating the warm ups just as much as Vashti. They were important though.

"Limber lions catch the slow gazelle!" Vashti kept repeating the tune looking utterly bored. As she did she just tried to keep thinking about pleasing her father and her future pad.
"Ill tell you why this is important to your singing. In order to sing to the best of your ability, your voice must be warmed up properly. Singers usually have their own way of warming themselves up. Until you know your voice I'm supplying you with easy warm ups. Once you warm up then you must learn the notes. I can not just teach you a song. If you don't know what a note is you can't hope to sing it properly. Once you know these things then I will be able to teach you a song. Remember if anything is worth doing its worth doing it right." Alright that's it Kifa sounded like her mother, it was some what sickening.

"Alright enough of that now, let's try a breathing exercise. Breathe in slowly. Now exhale slowly. Inhale again. Now, this time hiss the air out slowly. Breathe in again. This time, punch the ss's until all your air is gone." Kifa said before getting to her paws and demonstrating it.
Alright that all made sense even if it was very tedious. "Ok." She welcomed the breathing exercise it didn't make her feel stupid and actually felt good. She followed Kifarang's moves and closed her eyes concentrating on the her breathing.

"Very good Vashti! Ok, how about a very simple song. Head shoulders paws and tails paws and tails Head sholders paws and tails. paws and tails. And eyes, and ears, and mouth, and nose.Head shoulders paws and tails. Paws and tails!!" Kifa's ears perked as she heard Kwea call to her. She sighed and fowned looking back to Vashti. "Go a head I would like to hear you sing before I leave."
"Ok!" It wasnt a good song really but it was a song. She opened her mouth and sang the song before looking horrified. She sounded terrible!!! Nothing like Kifa's at all, why did she sound so bad. "I sound horrible!!!"

"Very good!!!" Kifa cued meaning it. She knew there weren't many cubs that would sing like angels from birth. In fact she sounded like Kifa did when she was little. "I've got to go....."
"YOU LIE I SOUNDED HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!! How could you think I sounded good I sounded like someone stepped on my tail." Vashti started to cry a bit she over reacted a lot.

"Vashti calm down! You sound like me when I was little. Don't worry you will get better. Specially starting so young! I promise I'll come again and help you to sing." Kifa said ruffling the fur tuff on Vashti's head. "I've got to go my pad is calling me. Good bye for now little Vashti." Kifarange could not keep Kwea waiting any longer so she took off towards the sound of his calls.
Vashti sniffled she felt like her dreams of singing had been crushed. She smiled a little at Kifa and hoped the lioness was telling the truth and really could help her sing. She wouls just have to find patience for this she supposed. "Good bye Banu Kifaranga!" Vashti called after the lioness before heading back into her den.
