The lioness padded softly across the pridelands, a dead hare clutched in her jaws. Her hunt had been relatively successful, but then, she'd always been good at hunting. Just because she'd died didn't mean her skill was gone, and with the pride in the state it was in, her skill was needed. She was needed. But just for now. Someday she'd be done. Someday she wouldn't be needed any longer. And then she could go back to her den and rest there.

Then.

But not now.

Now she was trying to figure out what was to be done with the meager kill. Was everything the same as it was before the quake? Or were things different now? Where should she take the meal she'd managed to find? Certainly Yamini didn't plan to eat it, hunger wasn't something that came to her now. Her desire to eat was gone with the desire to sleep. Being dead probably did that. Still, she should have asked someone before she left, she'd just not thought of it at the time. Well, perhaps she'd run into someone who was hungry, and just give it to them. That would be solution enough.

Aberforth needed to practice.

He knew he needed to make sure he was a good hunter. A proficient hunter. A… normal hunter? At that point, he would take anything if it meant not being the worst. He was fairly certain cubs had better skills than him. With his butt in the air, he moved slowly through some tall grass, inching himself closer to his target. Silent, like a lion ninja, he drew himself ever closer, paws barely leaving an imprint in the soft earth as he picked up the speed to close the distance.

Once close enough, he wiggled his butt in the air, gripping the dirt with his front claws only a moment before springing forward to attack the helpless victim. With a roar he landed on top of the target, digging his claws into its sides before rolling with it along the ground.

After a moment, he climbed back to his feet, awkwardly swinging his tail about as he looked down at the defeated foe. That log hadn’t seen what hit it. Sighing softly, he looked around- the pride as quiet as ever. Peace was something to be thankful for, truly, but he still would enjoy SOMETHING to do. Practicing only kept him occupied for so long before the boredom struck again.

The roar caught her attention as she made her way back to the pride with her small catch. Lately she'd taken to avoiding company, she didn't have the desire for it and everyone else surely had better thing to do than speak with the dead. But a roar was something she ought not to ignore. Someone might need help, and if she could be useful than she ought to be. It was the only reason she was still here after all.

Yamini changed her course, padding towards where she'd heard what could only have been another lion. It wasn't hard to spot the white fur, it stood out against the backdrop of the territory. He seemed to be alright though, a dull glance around the general area revealed nothing that she could think of which might make him roar like that. But one never knew.

"Are you alright?" she asked finally, setting her prey on the ground by her forepaws to free her jaws for speaking. It was strange to be the one starting the conversation...she usually merely replied to others who insisted upon approaching her

Aberforth could have jumped out of what remained of his mane when he heard the voice come suddenly behind him. For a moment, he thought the log itself had suddenly sprung to life and was going to get back at him for making a fool out of it not that long ago. But… then he realized exactly what had been said to him, making him feel foolish for thinking such a thing in the first place. Of course the log hadn’t come to life- it was just an object! It couldn’t possibly talk.

Anyway, it looked more like a male log, anyway. The voice had been perfectly female.

Sighing softly, looking over his shoulder, the male watched the other lioness, tilting his head slightly to one side. Yup, female, though he wasn’t sure if she had been someone from his past or not. Some of it was still a little foggy in his mind. Memories.

Oh Gods, how long had she been watching him? “Ah… yes, I’m alright,” he softly, “I was just… I mean, it wasn’t anything to worry about… how long have you been there? I hope you don’t think I’m some really weird lion… It was nothing, really…” Nothing but a fully adult creature practicing his poorly developed hunting skills.

He seemed...startled to hear her? Surprised? Not pleased, but then, who would be pleased? She was dead after all, it was more surprising how many people did seem happy to see her. But he seemed a little...something or other.

"Not long," Yamini assured him, looking around again. Nothing to worry about. Certainly. She didn't see anything worth worrying over either. But then why was he roaring?

Well, nevermind. It was not her business anyway. After another mildly curious glance at him, she started to retrieve her prey, then paused. He was someone in the pride. He was someone who might be hungry. She was just a huntress, she hunted because it was what she was good at, and it was needed. Perhaps... "Are you hungry?" she asked, nudging the hare's carcass with one paw. She wasn't going to eat it. Her appetite had died a long while back.
