Kame'bufuu wandered the Ukuucha'Wafalme landscape, a wide smile upon his muzzle. His Banu, Kinaya, was swollen with pregnancy, something they had both been hoping and trying for. To see Kinaya's large belly with the movement of cubs inside gave the older Pad a sense of pride he hadn't felt for some time now. He was going to be a father, in a new setting where no one cared what his past consisted of. It was calming almost.
He decided that day to go out and gain acquaintance with some of the males within the pride, feeling a need for male bonding he hadn't had in some time. He enjoyed his Banu's company, but he longed for a masculine conversation or even a friendly sparring match. Something to make him feel useful at the moment.
Trudging alone, the high mid-day sun beating down upon his dark coat, he made his way towards a watering hole, needing to keep himself hydrated the best he could. When he arrived he dipped his muzzle into the water and drank deeply, the cooling sensation flowing through his being. He peeked around with his red eyes to see who was about and located a light colored male nearby, perhaps someone welcoming?

Vu licked his lips, catching the water as it dripped from his tattered and torn torn. The wounds from his battle with the Firekin youth had long since closed but the scars remained. Although some felt intimidated or concerned by his disfigured face, Vu wore his scars with pride, the symbol of his love for his banu and everything he sacrificed for her all those seasons ago.
He was a large male, like his Pridelander father, the cold hearted warrior with the black pelt, but life in Ukuucha'Wafalme had changed him. He rarely thought of Ghilt these days, the need for his father's approval was long gone. So when he lifted his head and spotted the large, black lion standing a few yards away, he looked over curiously, but the sight of Kame did not lead Vu to make false judgments about him simply for the resemblance. He smiled. "Greetings brother!"

"Greetings," Kame'bufuu replied, his voice filled with cheer for a lion of such striking coat. He was born with a look meant for intimidations, but it was hard to believe that it was what his purpose in life was to be, not with the happiness dripping from the tone of his voice, and the small smile that had crept to his face.
"I don't believe we have met, yet. I'm Kame'bufuu. My Banu, Kinaya and Tai'kipepeo were recently accepted into this pride with me," He explained. He probably didn't have to since Misilivuma probably knew most of the comings and goings within the pride and would therefore be able to recognize an outside presence, but it was the considerate and proper thing to do, so he did it.
"This pride is quite a pride," Kame said.

It was hard to imagine that Vu had once been so awkward. After raising a family in Ukuucha'Wafalme and meeting many other males with families of their own, he finally seemed to have picked up on manners. "Well met, Kame. My name is Misilivuma, but you can call me Vu. I also have two Banu, Molemolgi my Baybanu and Fila."
Indeed, Vu knew many members of the pride by name, although the pride was so large that it was impossible for him to know everyone. Still, he would have remembered seeing Kame around. He sat down beside Kame. "Yes, it is. Where did you come from, if you don't mind me asking?"
Vu loved to hear stories from new members. Having spent the better part of his adolescence in the rogue lands, there would always be a part of him that yearned for the wide open savannah.
((Note: Fila should be in the pride ICly by now, but we had to put her capture RP on hiatus while Katjive is in summer camp.))

"A place very far from here," Kame said, wanting to keep how much of his old life he let others know vague and to a minimum. He did not like the idea of others knowing he was once the second in command to a lion who in the end trusted the word of his spoiled daughter, to the word of the general who had grown up with and served under him all his life. It left a bitter taste in his mouth, though it didn't sour his taste for women, as was obvious by the two he now had.
"I actually do not recall how many days Kinaya, Tai and I have been traveling since we decided to make our little arrangement. It seemed like weeks," He mused quietly, before shaking his head, "It's no matter. Where I came from I no longer found as home and so I moved. This will be my home now, and my soon-to-arrive children's home."
He looked to Vu, who seemed quite a bit younger than himself, and inquired thoughtfully, "How many children do you have, Vu? Did they follow you here, or were they born on these lands?"

Vu nodded in understanding. It could be difficult keeping track of time so far from one's home, so Vu assumed Kame probably had a pride before his journey into the rogue lands. This too Vu could understand. His old pride had been perfectly pleasant, but he never felt as at home in the Pridelands as he did here in the Sultan's pride.
"Two daughters and one son; Afsar, Zarha and Harb. Harb, my son, is in the rouge lands searching for a female to bring back to the pride." He did his best to disguise his pride when he spoke of his children. Though his love for them was clear, he hated to be one of those annoying fathers who raved about his children constantly as if they were his entire being. He sighed. "The den will be empty again soon. Afsar and Zarha both have pads in their future, once Illyas and Anwar return."
Although Vu felt pleased his daughters had attracted the attention of two of the Viziers' sons, he worried about Anwar, the son of Traiq. Zarha assured him Anwar would never lay a paw on her. Still, that boy seemed like a schemer.

Such a small litter, Kame thought to himself, it must have been so easy for them both to handle.
Kame couldn't help but think of the children that Kinaya would birth for him soon. She was so big, there had to be more than four, and it was a little frightening to think of. It was amusing, the man who lived for war was frightened of something that didn't even involve losing his own life, unless Kinaya snapped half-way through birthing an decided he needed to go.
He chuckled a little to himself at that thought; Kinaya, actually taking him down. Call it arrogance if you will, but he knew full well that pretty pink sweet-heart didn't have it in her. Not now, not ever.
"Vu," Kame started, looking at him with all the seriousness in the world, "Did it scare you? Being a father? Knowing that you are responsible for those little lives?"
This was Kame's first litter of children, ever. He was nervous, excited and proud all at once in light of it. It was the change he was attempting to make, from being the serious warrior who lived to serve his pride, to the father who fought to protect his loved ones. It was such a foreign experience.

Vu nodded. He dared not mention Neha, the daughter who had disappeared so suddenly. Of course he wondered if it was his fault. As long as he had his other children, he supposed he would simply have to find the strength to move on for their sake. "Absolutely! I was so young then, I didn't know if I was ready to be a father."
How strange it was, knowing that might soon find himself a grandfather! Having his first litter as a teenager meant he was still quite young, too young to be called a grandfather in his opinion. Since Kame was older than him, Vu assumed that he was simply making conversation rather than looking for advice.

"I am nervous, for Kinaya and myself," The first time father admitted. He was not quite sure how to talk about his concerns to Kinaya, as this was all just as new to her. And while Tai had seen pregnancies, she herself had never been, leaving her as someone he could not confide in for advice either.
"This is my first litter of children," Kame said flatly, emphasizing as best he can that it was truly his first and only litter, at least that he knew about. In reality he had two other children out in the world, little leopon twins, a boy and a girl. He had never met them, and his encounter with their mother was brief and casual. They both were simply looking for a little attention and received it.
Kame made a small face, he did not like showing emotion, but there was really no way around doing so. It was just really awkward for him, "It may seem strange to hear from a lion of my age, but in my old life my duties were all that mattered to me. This is all too new to me. I'm outside of my comfort zone with it, even though this is what I wanted."

Vu averted his eyes to hide the look of surprise on his face, staring at their reflections in the water instead. He was already starting to develop a respect for the older male. The reason for his feelings seemed to be more than age. Something about the way he talked, the way he carried himself, made Vu think that they had something in common. The way Kame talked about his duties only furthered Vu's belief.
"I understand. My father was the same way, except he never allowed his children to come between him and duty." A hint of resentment there. "When I had my first litter, I worried that I wouldn't know how to love them enough or that they wouldn't love me. At first it was much easier than I thought it would be. I just had to spend time with them and they would love me. Then as they got older they started having lives of their own. Sometimes they would have the same problems I did as a kid, but most of the time I had to improvise."
He looked up at Kame, a little embarrassed himself. He thought of himself as a man of action rather than of words. He could only hope that he was making sense. "I didn't have a lot of life experience when I became a father. If I can do it I'm sure you can, too."

Kame gave off a small chuckle and a smirked at Vu's comment. His words were true enough. If a male much younger than himself could successfully rear a small brood of children with one woman, than surely he could raise a large brood with two, even if he was old enough by now to be a grandfather. He only hoped he would have the same positive relationship Vu seemed to have with his children.
"I can only hope," Kame said, smiling briefly towards Vu.
Deciding to change subject, Kame scanned around the area curiously looking for something. Back in his old pride there used to be a section specifically laid out for those wishing to sharpen their skills, with a sparring ring in the middle. He remembered how the males, and even some of the tougher females, would line the ring like a wall and watch the two who sparred in the middle, cheering on their pick. He wondered if they had that here.
"Vu. Where do you go if you wish to spar?" He asked curiously.

"That depends." When he found someone who wanted to spar they usually did so on the spot, unless the terrain was too messy or there were too many cubs near by. There were several areas one could use to spar. Even though the pride had a militaristic side, combat was usually reserved for raids and wars, giving center stage to family life and brotherly relationships.
Vu smiled. His smile looked a bit grizzly given his tattered lips, but he was obviously sincere. "I had a feeling you were a fighter. My parents trained me to fight when I was young."

Kame smirked a toothy smirk at learning of Vu's training as a fighter. It was nice to talk to someone who shared that same love of the fight. It had made him feel like he had purpose all his life, and even though his life purpose had changed he could not let it go completely. It was far too ingrained into his being. It was nice to hear Vu saying he had a feeling that he was a fighter, it showed his awareness and ability to judge, that was important in a sparring partner.
Getting up from his spot the older male stretched out, having sat so long making him feel as if he was beginning to atrophy, "Vu, would you mind sparring with me? I haven't had a good fight in quite some time."

Vu stood as well. He took Kame's smirk to mean he had guessed right. That must be why he felt so much respect for Kame even though they had just met. Kame was clearly an experienced fighter, a judgment not merely based upon age. It had been a long time since Vu had someone he could consider a teacher. He would certainly like to find a teacher in Kame, though he reminded himself to be careful about jumping into things on assumptions.
"That's the best idea I've heard all day. I could use a good fight myself." He started to lead Kame away from the lake. There were too many families gathered near by and too many trees. Fortunately, Vu knew the perfect spot to test their skills against one another.
