How do you handle the haters?

okay, I go to this art school and my major (animation) is very small so I'm always around the same 4 people. Its not that bad, but one guy... lets call him fishstix since thats his nickname, is... well to put it bluntly, hes an a*****e.

He thinks hes hot stuff and that his work is awesome (which its not, in the 3 years ive known him his stuff has not gotten better) He thinks all furries are into hardcore porn and are into beastiality.

Once he gets an idea, he never changes his mind and will not shut up about it. He hates hipsters (we have quite a few at my school) and constantly bashes them.

He just recently started bashing furries. My thesis for school is going to involve anthro characters and Im not sure what to say to him if he starts at it with me. (he also says and does s**t behind peoples backs, i found a drawing he did of me which was very insulting and disturbing) I just dont want to explode in his face because I hate him for so many reasons. I just want to be on friendly terms with this guy because he has moments when he acts like a normal person and is actually fun to talk to.

what do you guys do when you encounter haters?

If he says anything to bash, respond coldly that what he has said is an outright lie and that you would appreciate it if he would show respect towards you, your friends, and people he knows nothing about.

It wouldn't hurt to mention that what he said was inappropriate and by insinuating that you are into hardcore porn and bestiality, for example, can be considered both slander and sexual harassment.

That will shut him up fast most likely, since all schools take sexual harassment very seriously. Even an accusation can sometimes be enough to warrant an investigation.

If it happens during class while up in front of people talking to them, then the sheer embarrassment of being called out on such a thing would be enough to either make him leave or not want to say anything like that again. He may be pissed off in the end, but that doesn't give him the right to burst out with that sort of stuff.

If he says those things to you more privately while in class or something, then I'd raise my voice so everyone in class hears that you do not take kindly to such slander and harassment.

...Admittedly this works best if you are a woman, but it can apply to men as well. Heck, he may be even more likely to shut up about it if you subtly insinuate he was sexually harassing you when he's straight (I assume). razz


Also, for such a person in the kind of work he'd be doing, he's going to have to learn to be more respectful towards people or else he will never get a job. If he's not working with clients then he'll have to work with others who may be completely opposite of him and he's going to need to learn when to "put up and shut up" or learn that not everyone is like him. The funny thing is that it's the hipsters he's most likely going to work with. razz

Yeah, i dont think he realizes how many bridges he burns with the way he talks.

hes so arrogant and thinks he knows everything about something and wont listen if hes wrong so its very hard to correct him without him insulting you.

at least a lot of my professors are aware of how he is. I know they can support me if i need them.

A lot of so called furry hatters are either closet furs themselves, or open furs that just like to screw around and troll others furs. xd The rest are either people who just hate cause they love to hate everything, whom you can make heads explode with proper logic, or the ignorant that are easily turned to our side with some education.

he is definitely not a fur himself. i think he just hates because he is ignorant and the only way he can make something funny (for himself) is to insult that person

Just make fun of the fact that he's obviously got a lot of insecurities if he has to constantly judge and ridicule anything different from himself, just to feel good about who he is. Often it's enough to embarrass them into shutting up for a while.

Honestly I don't get that much hate. I'm such a great person that most people don't care once they get to know me, which they usually do before knowing I'm a furry.

But in your case, I'd take actions and kick his a**. Literally. I am not very patient with assholes, but if you are, you might be able to think of something to verbaly cripple him and own him where he's standing. Like for example, pointing out how he hasn't improved in 3 years.

My one teacher warned a new teacher that he was a punk and i couldnt agree more. I have no idea why he is in animation because he clearly cannot handle it. His thesis isnt even going to involve much animation. Hes doing some stupid movie.
