The King's attendant was having an interesting day. He had spent the whole morning attending to Queen Kalenda, who was in a much better mood these days, though she still wasn't much for jokes or the games he liked to offer. She just made him bring her food or jewelry or feathers. And she liked to talk about the King, though she mostly did that with her regular attendant, Fitina. Girls would be girls.
After being kicked out for being annoying and told to come back when he had a head on his shoulders, which wasn't uncommon and he knew the King and Queen never meant it as a permanent thing whenever he was made to leave their presence, he padded along to visit some of the lower classes.
He considered even the high class members of the pride as 'lower', just because they didn't live with the King and Queen, and talk to them every day. Granted, he was a servant, but he still fancied himself rather important.
Even so, he loved the pride, and he loved visiting all the different folks, with all their different colored pelts, not limiting himself just to the purple crowd. He even liked to hang out with the fairy folk! He thought that just made him even more awesome. Anything to bolster his own sense of self worth.

Khuluma knew where he stood on the social ladder, and being non-purple, he knew he wasn’t appealing to those of the royalty. However, he did rub elbows with them through his own skills. As far as merchants went, he was one of the best and well established in the pride. His father had been a traveler and merchant himself, and An’tonio had grown into a nice in heritance. With his own knowledge passed down to him, he went traveling and secured some of the best products around. It was all rather simple in the end, when he wanted to humble himself on the process. He found what prides and places had what resources – precious stones, herbs, seashells, or even slaves he could barter with – and he traded and got what he wanted for a better price. Then he’d return back to the pride, selling his wares and becoming all the richer for it. There were a few royals who were had requested things from him. If he could acquire it, he would, and in this way he secreted a degree of power. Not royalty, but he was one hell of a merchant.
As one who made his living off of know who was who and who needed what, he tried to keep up with the latest gossip. While he was usually one to be more mournful about the fact of a certain friend he knew, he was currently in better spirits. He just returned from selling off a few pelts for some seashells and was happy to see that a good portion of them were almost now gone. Traded for either more of a common item (which he could use to sell off for something else) or a few rare things he had his eye on.
Not in the mood for work, he was basking himself on a rock around a group of males, all of which were talking and having little conversations here and there. They would sometimes jab him for his input, breaking him from admiring a seashell necklace he brought with him, a trinket he was using in a way for other lions to ask where he got it and then lead him to get rid of more. It had a nice white shell with a soft, pearly pink in it’s center.
When An’tonio spotted Leta, he quirked an eyebrow. For the king’s servant to come down the mountain was a big deal, and he wondered if he was on an errand. Maybe he could slip a present to him in hopes the royal family would inquire where it had come. It was an opportunity, and he waited to see if Leta would come near or would continue on his way. Either way, Leta was not going to go without the merchant at least making an attempt at talking him up.

Leta was looking around as happily as he ever did, always glad to get away from the familiar dens of the royal and higher class rocks to feel some real earth under his paws. He padded along, spotting a group of lions laying around nearby.
Now that was something he would like to be able to do: nap whenever he wanted. Sure, he worked hard for where he was, and did his best, but he often tired himself out. And the queen always yelled at him when he was sleepy or, worse yet, when he nodded off.
Grinning from ear to ear, he padded over to them, spotting the light colored lion looking in his direction.
"Hello there! What are you guys up to this fine day?" He tried his best to keep his speech refined, but sometimes he slipped into a very common way of talking. To his pleasure, the King and Queen never seemed to mind, but the other nobles... some of them were a bit stuck up, and didn't like him drawling at them.
He tried to avoid it as best he could.

It was good that neither of the lions around were nobles or else they would have turned up their nose, but as it was, the middle class regarded one of their own that rubbed elbows with the King and Queen with a sort of apprehension. Life was good, and they didn't want to say or do anything that might get them punished. Not that they would say anything like that – no sir. Of course not.
Leaning on his back on the rock, he rolled over to his side to watch Leta approach, smiling as he watched his fellow men straighter up a bit more than before, a younger lion leaning in to whisper into another's ear to explain exactly who Leta was. Servants who ran errands from the mountains usually were seen in one of two ways. They could either be trouble if you should say the wrong thing or offend the servant or, in Antonio's case, as a creature of good luck.
"We're practicing doing nothing. I've perfected the art and am teaching my fellows how to refine their skills. " He let a long claw play with a few shells on his necklace, letting it clack against the purple-gem necklace he also wore. It was the only purple on his person and sadly, not one that was on his pelt. Still, he was considered a higher-class merchant as far as middle-class went. "And what about you? A young man like yourself should be up to something on such a fine day. Pardon cliques, but could it be business or pleasure? I'm hoping the later as it always makes for a better story." A few of the loins were smiling, watching their friend engage the other lion and seeing what would be made of it. Passionate as he was, An'tonio could swing on a mood as easily as the little shells on his necklace.

"A good thing to practice!" Leta said, picking up his language a bit. He had to remember that he was the guy who talked to Kings and Queens regularly, and he had to act like it. Even if he also spent a lot of his time learning from his sister, who was generously considered the 'smart one' of the duo, or just goofing off on his own.
He also had a very short attention span, and was confused by simple things. When that happened, he liked to figure out why they were confusing, and try to come to some understanding about them.
"You're the doing nothing master, hmm? I might have to take some lessons myself, though I think I'm pretty good already. You know, when the King and Queen aren't asking me to do things." He grinned proudly there.
Not quite sure which one 'latter' was, always mixing the two up, he opted to shrug, "I'm out here for both, maybe. Or neither! I don't think it really matters. So maybe it is just pleasure, because I take it in business."
Ha! Now that was good. He would have to tell Fitina about that one later.
"What makes it a good story, either way?" He asked, looking a bit confused. It wasn't difficult to get that expression on him, though.

This boy was a little light in the head, wasn't he? Still, the confused expression was rather endearing, and he watched with an amused smile in a way someone might regard a small cub. Cute, simple, and so easy to play around with. Part of him warned that this could be a visage and he was actually smarter than he let on and for this reason, he knew too much fun was out of the question lest he incur the wrath of royalty.
He noticed the other lions were grinning to themselves, mind in the similar gutter as his and wondering if Leta was serious. Did he not know what sort of pleasure made for a good story? He could hear one lion, deep gray, chuckling to himself. An'tonio decided to explain it simply. "Well, for example, I'd rater hear a story about a lion chasing their lover than what herbs he cut up that morning for medicine." He turned on his stomach, letting the sun warm his back. "There is usually more passion in telling the first story than telling one about your business. That is unless you have a great deal of passion for your work, which doesn't seem too common and you have to find someone interested in your passion for your job to appreciate it. Everyone has a passion for love and likes listening to those stories. I'd like you to point to a lion that doesn't." It wasn’t a actual command, but a plain statement that everyone, at one point or another, either was loved or wanted to be loved.
"That's why I like those stories. There is usually more energy, but you seem to have a great deal of passion for your work, no? Working for royalty must be very rewarding." He wondered what benefits a servant of the upper-class gained.

If Leta got anything from his father, it was his ability to do things unintentional. Where Hadaya was always awkward and constantly messing things up, Leta was always pondering things and easily confused. He was his father's son in many ways, though he had run off playing with Fitina at such a young age, parted from Hadaya and then found by the King to be brought back to these lands, Leta had never come to learn his father too well.
He just remembered he loved his dad, and that was good enough for him. Where ever Hadaya was now, Leta hoped he was happy, and that they could meet up one day. Maybe Hadaya would be proud of him, for what he was doing now.
Maybe.
Leta really liked making people proud.
"I guess that's right, medicine is less interesting than a running lover. But you don't learn half as much when someone tells you about their hard to catch love then you do when you hear about herbs and what they make, right? So even if it's not as interesting, it's still... uh. Well! Interesting." He grinned and laughed at his explanation, thinking it made perfect sense in his head.
He did look around though, hoping to find a lion that might not have a passion for love. He didn't know anyone around, though, so he didn't dare point.
"You got me there, but still!" He thought about it, "I guess it is very rewarding. The King brought us here when we were just cubs, and the Queen has been very kind to us. Serving them, I think, is just our way of saying thank you. But in turn we still get rewards for our work, so it works out even better than I could have thought."

Hmm. He guessed it had it's own logic, but he didn't care for that. Business was rather boring to hear from someone else unless it helped him out or it was from someone he cared for, and that was only because he liked to hear them speak. Give him someone fired up about something they loved and An'tonio could listen for hours. "I suppose you are right." He sighed, letting his paws dangle off the rock as e set his head down. "Might be interesting and informational, but when it comes to hearing stories, I like to be entertained. I deal with enough business when I work." He pushed himself up, crossing his paws this time. It seemed he just couldn't decide at what angle he wanted to look at this lion and what position to go about addressing him. Maybe the rock was uncomfortable or maybe he was just getting restless again. "I suppose you owe a lot to your King and Queen, but don't we all? Many of us are thankful for our way of life….Well, I suppose not all of us." There were a few lions who could not forgive the King for what he had done by leaving the pride when they needed him the most. An'tonio was of mix opinions, but he was a loyalist to the pride and, in turn, the King. "It is good that they treat you well." He stood up, shaking his body free of some dirt before stepping off the rock. He stepped his way past the lions around him before sitting before Leta. " My manners eluded me. I know your profession, but I didn't give mine. My name is An'tonio, merchant by trade." He gave a nod of a bow, but not far. Royal servant or not, An'tonio did not feel Leta was above him. They were all middle class here and being more well traveled, he felt in better spirits to say he was a bit more knowledgeable than the other.

"I like to be entertained, too!" He grinned, swishing his tail behind him. He was forgetting his attempt to be official completely now, just slipping easily into being casual and relaxed. He didn't think it would get back to the King and Queen if he took some time off right now, anyway, with how weird things were right now.
They had their paws full.
Wondering why the other lion seemed to shift so much, if he was uncomfortable or just really bored, Leta tilted his head and watched him. Was he being boring? An'tonio said he liked to be entertained and, really, Leta wasn't being very entertaining at all. So maybe he was just getting frustrated because of that?
"I owe everything to the King and Queen," he said seriously, nodding his head, "and I would give them everything if I could."
He smiled, though, as the other lion introduced himself. "Did I mention my name is Leta? I guess we got wrapped up in jobs, I can't remember if I said my name, either." He laughed jovially, obviously not bothered by the fact.
