She knew it was time to see her Huria sons from the borders and why that worried her more than was necessary she was very unsure. She had never been a good mother, if anything she wondered why she cared at all, it wasn't like she had paid much attention to her litter of cubs. Still she knew that her Huria cubs had to leave and some sort of dormant maternal instinct sat her on the borders and waited for them to pass by. She needed at least one word with them before they left even if she had never had words with them before.
Why she was insisting on this she just wasn't sure. She had never cared about her sons before today so why was she sitting here frying in the midday sun and waiting for them to leave? Who Knew? Certainly, she didn't.

Dooley padded towards the borders. The young male knew that today he would be a rogue, that before the night had fallen he would no longer be a firekin he would be a rogue alone in the world. He wondered about that and considered what he would do when he made his way out in the world. He knew instinctually that he would search for another pride, being alone really did not suit the brown patched lion.
He knew that this would be the last time that the sands would cover his paws and weigh him down, he had been taught well how to hunt on the sand and he knew that beyond the borders there was very little in the way of sand to hold him back. He would be able to live alone, he just knew he wouldn't want to.
Lucky for him, he had been raised by a good lioness. As the borders drew closer his eyes settled on the black form of the lioness who was his mother. It had not been she whom had raised him. She was an occasional visitor, someone whom came, sort of made sure of their wellbeing, then left. He wondered why she was out here, she looked like she was waiting for someone, or maybe she was hunting? "Mother?" He called padding up to her with a pleasant smile on his maw. he was ever courteous and still called Jyotika by her correct title even if she had no been the mother he wanted. At his side a white and black jackal padded, she had been Dooleys constant companion for some time now and she was coming with him in to the wide world. She barked a little yap at the lioness on the borders. She knew that the lioness was Dooleys mother but she had always felt she was very lax. Her own mother was a wonderful loving creature and she wondered why Jyotika was not the same. "I wonder why your mother is out here Dooley?" she mused, mostly to herself sitting beside the pale and chocolate splotched lion as he came to a halt.

Jyotika got to her paws in a sort of awkward manner. Now that Dooley was here, what was she to do about him? Just say goodbye and make her way back to the dens? No, she wanted to say something inspirational to her leaving son. She glanced at the little jackal at her sons side and snorted. "Still got the mutt then huh?" She snorts turning her attention back on Dooley.
"You're leaving today?" She asked, her words clipped and blunt as usual, her odd coloured eyes observing the young male whom she had come to say goodbye to.

Dooley chuckled lightly. He knew his mother did not understand the bond between him and wessex. His little hound companion had been his only friend on more than one occasion. Stills he couldn't be expected to understand. She could barely understand that her kids needed her after all. He wished she had been a real mother to him but it seemed that she was here for some reason, she wasn't simply sitting on the borders doing nothing. Had she come to say goodbye?
The realisation hit him when she questioned him about leaving. "Yes mother. I am off out in to the world today. It's an exciting adventure, wouldn't you say?" He didn't entirely believe his own words but perhaps they would make his mother think he was happy about being on his own in the big wide world.
Wessex barked once and sat closer to Dooley. She was his companion and would stay with him through thick and thin and thicker and thiner. Unlike his mother she had watched him grow, truly grow, in to a big handsome lion with plenty of confidence and a sweetness she had never seen in anyone else of this pride.

"Oh..well yes, well that is why I am here to see you off." She states simply, "Well yes I suppose it will be an adventure. Could be dangerous." Again a clipped response to the situation, what exactly was she supposed to say here? Be careful didn't really enter her vocabulary.
"I uhm..wanted to say good luck?" yes that was more of a goodbye really but not entirely what she wanted to say to her little brown son, well not so little brown son. "where will you go?" an attempt at interest was better than no interest she felt, she really wasn't interested in where he was going the emphasis was of his safety, he had been prepared for the world though, he would be fine, probably, right?

The chocolate tinted male smiles lightly. She was trying, he knew that, he also knew that her version of trying wasn't very good but he had to at least appreciate that she was here to see him leave.
"Well, I think I am going to go and find a pride to join mother. I am not much of a loner and Wessex and I like to think of ourselves as more social butterflies. I like the pridal life." Of course, where exactly he was going on this journey he was un sure, and maybe he would pass through many prides before he found just the right one.
Wessex smiles brightly up at Dooley her big chocolate coloured eyes dancing happily. It would always be her and Dooley they were uch close friends that no matter where they went she knew she would be safe and sound and with her best buddy. It was a nice feeling.

A pride? Yes, she couldn't see Dooley living without the comforts of a pride even if he was older and wiser now. "Your ancestors come from the pridelands. Perhaps you should wander that way. You may find old roots." Her words were of genuine curiosity and also of care, she hoped that Dooley would find a good pride and she knew that the pridelands were a good pride, after all her mother had come from there.
"Your grand mothers family comes from there and are probably still there." She smiles a slight quirky smile. She could hardly imagine what the pride lands were like, after all she had never left the safety of the firekin lands. Her own mother though had told her some of the story of the pridelands. It sounded like a nice enough and more to the point, safe, place to live.

The Pridelands? He had never heard his mother speak so much of where their family had come from, why he bore the Huria pelt when so many of the cubs around him were the correct firekin colors. His family came from the pride lands?
"Really mother?" He questions his soft blue eyes resting on the large lioness whom though she was his mother had hardly been a mother to him until this day.
Wessex flickers her tail in a little wag, it often confused her that Dooleys mother seemed distant, useless as a mother in fact yet here she was making sure that he was headed in the right direction, that he might have a direction to go in if he needed it. She wondered if they would head to these pridelands or not. It didn't matter so long as she was with Dooley.

Jyotika nods lightly. "Yes, your grandmother, my mother, was born in the pridelands she still has family there, or so I am told." She smiles a slight quirky smile, she had no need, nor want to go to the pridelands, but perhaps Dooley would find a home there and family that he so clearly needed.
"Your grandmother told me of her favourite sister Radi, if she is still alive there I am sure she will give you shelter until you decide to move on, if you decide to go of course." She whispers, looking her chocolatey son over, she knew his colours came from his prideland, rogue background, she was very proud of him, bravely going out in to the rogue lands, even if he had to, he was facing it head on, making plans for his future.

Dooley smiles brightly moving closer to his mother. "Thank you mother." He leans forward and licks her cheek. "I will remember that name mother." He smiles and flickers his tail happily. "I know you have found it hard, to raise us mother, but I appreciate you coming out here today to see me off."
The young male sighs and looks out on to the rogue lands beyond the world he knew. "Do you know which way the pride lands are mother? I think i will start my journey there." He smiles.
Wessex whines quietly as Dooley moves closer to his mother. He was glad to see he forgave her, he loved her despite it all. It was nice. He hopes she would return some affection.

Jyotika almost cringes away from the affection, but she copes with it, managing a smile for her chocolatey son. Lifting a paw she pulls the young male to her chest and holds him close against herself. "It's going to be hard out there for you my son, but stay strong okay." She whispers licking his cheek and quickly letting him go.
She couldn't or wouldn't shed a tear for him, he was supposed to be tough and she was supposed to the tougher. "The pride lands are that way my son." She points in the direction her mother had once shown her many moons ago. She could remember this conversation from her own mothers lips, about her past, about being raised in a soft land.
She thought maybe, just maybe, Dooley would find a home there, but if not, he would certainly find a friendly face or two.

Dooley sighs a light sigh pulling away from his mother. He smiles at her taking a few steps away. "I will go there mother and search for Radi." He smiles a gentle smile stretching out his heavy limbs.
"I'll be okay mother, I promise." He whispers taking a few more steps away from her turning his nose in the direction of the pride lands.
Wessex jumps to her paws and pads up to the big chocolatey coated male and presses her shoulder against his fore arm. "Lets go Dooley." She looks back at the big lioness and nods her head. "I'll take care of him." She whispers wagging her tail.

Jyotika gets to her paws and flickers her tail. "Good luck Dooley." She whispers letting out a deep, long breath she turns away from him padding towards the dens. She was glad to have seen Dooley off. Glad that he would be safe, some how knowing he would be okay out in the wide world.
"Good luck, truly good luck." She shakes her head and breaks in to a run pushing back tears that threatened to fall from her eyes. She had never cried and now was not the time.
She only wished she had mothered her Huria sons more, mothered them before they had left forever.

Dooley glances back at the moving shape of his mother. He lets out a long heavy sigh, his dusty blue eyes smiling. He shed a tear for his mother and broke in to a run. "Come on Wessex, we have a pride lands to get to!" He laughs, shaking away the sad feeling of leaving his life and family behind.
Wessex wags her tail and races after the big male lion barking happily. "Off on an adventure!" She giggles her tail in the air her soft brown eyes dancing happily. Okay they were leaving everything they knew but they were leaving together and together they would be just fine.
