Smoking? Does it break the Rede?

heart I've had this question on my mind for a while now. I know of adult Wiccans who smoke cigarettes. Do you believe this breaks the Wiccan Rede. It says "Harm None" and that includes yourself. So people think it common knowledge that cigarettes are bad for you, but if it is so inderect does that mean that the Rede doesn't apply? heart

The Rede doesn't say "harm none". It says "An it harm none, do what ye will".

And even if it did say "harm none", it's advice, not rule or law. It can't be "broken", only taken or not taken.

I'd add that I think "harm" isn't even that well defined.
If someone wants to be flogged, is that harming them? If they want to smoke, is that harming them? How do you balance concepts of harm like denying them to act as they will verses physical effects?

I agree with Sanguina that the rede cannot be "broken". A better question is: is smoking worth the consequences? That's up to the individual to decide. I also don't think it's within good conduct to expose other people to it when they don't want to be.
