.:. Rules .:. [[Rule format respectfully modelled after Slander's much better one.]]1 - Kind of a no-brainer here, but follow the rules of SoA and the Gaia TOS here.
2 - Be respectful towards others (no whining, cheerleading, emoing, and so forth).
3 - All ideas should be your own. I'm not looking for character-based cosplays or "borrowed" ideas here.
4 - You can enter for as many as you want (one entry per lion), but you can only win one lion at the most in this event.
5 - There is no word count minimum or maximum.
6 - You may enter regardless of how many SoA you do or do not own.
7 - RP entries must be in third-person, as I'd like to see how these lions will be played.
8 - RP entry posts may be edited, but keep in mind that I may not read every entry more than twice. If you make any note-worthy changes to your entry, please let me know in this thread.
9 - This is an event to boost the number of members for the pride interest thread linked above, so please keep in mind that these lions should not be won and then shoved into some other pride. They are for the Voodoo pride.
10 - Make sure you've read everything in the interest thread.
11 - While SoA are not RP-required, it would be wonderful if you entered this contest while planning to RP a lot if you win.
12 - Please do not edit the coding format of the contest entries in any way. That means no font size changes, no colored font, no flobs, etc.--just copy-paste the code provided.
13 - I may add more rules at any time if I see fit. I will post any new rules in bold red in the thread if I think of more.

Q: Can we combine multiple prompts in one entry?

This dark lady is the oldest, wisest, most experienced Caplata in the entire pride. She is the cousin of the late Mama. This lioness's blood runs in the pride since her lineage has been with it probably since its beginning. Whether or not she was a black sheep in her family by being a Caplata is up to you. This lioness is absolutely devoted to her life as a Caplata and has become the very special friend of many of the Petro Loa, whom she loves dearly. She probably grew up having no friends besides the Petro Loa. Her cousin was her rival throughout life. She had a silent respect for her Mama cousin throughout her life, and how she reacted upon her death is up to you. She hates Simbi, the current Mama, but is not vocal about it. After all, Simbi is the precious Mama who deserves constant respect....
This lady comes with a dark plot surrounding her (extended version will be PM'd to the winner). She had a melancholic apprentice-turned-lover not too long ago--an adolescent male lion named Takis. It is his pelt that she wears on her back. She used him as a test subject for the darkest of tabboos--Zombi powder (with his permission) and was successful every time. However, she eventually allowed the effects to wear off one last time and never used it on him again. Their twisted, secret relationship resulted in the older lioness becoming pregnant. Before she gave birth to her cub, a daughter, Takis suddenly died. The Caplata was partly to blame for his death, adding to her anguish over the death of the only person she ever loved. Takis had a younger brother named Lazarus (owned by Thalion). He knew about their relationship. Lazarus, being a Pèseptè, works for the Caplata and is the only Pèseptè she uses. Lazarus was the only one the Caplata trusted enough to speak to about her situation, and asked him to help her. She tasked him with caring for the cub once she gave birth. The plan was that once her daughter grew old enough, the Caplata would pretend she was an incoming rogue and take her daughter on as an apprentice. However, as time goes by, Lazarus has begun to have mixed feelings about their plan. He loves the cub more than he'd say--she's his only family, and he's growing to love her like his own....And so, a secret, silent war is being fought between this Caplata and her dead lover's brother. Only time will tell who will win.
Prompt one You're prowling around the borders waiting for Lazarus to return with what you requested--fish bones. While you're waiting, a group of Gatherers returns, hauling a kill. They give you some looks, murmur with one another, and then one of them nonchalantly asks you why you are wearing Takis's pelt. Instead of giving them a reply, you turn around and head back to your dwelling place. Upon your arrival, what are you thinking about? (You may RP the entire prompt situation, her thoughts once she arrives home, or both.)
Prompt two It is very late, and the darkest time of night. But you are awake. Alone in your dwelling place, you are in a deep, spiritual trance. While in this trance, a few Petro Loa approach you. Their dark, twisted forms surround you and they speak to you. What do you talk about?
Prompt three When Takis died, a private funeral was held with only you and Lazarus as atendees. A Hounfor of white rocks was erected for him, with his body buried into the earth beneath. However...Takis is not really buried there. You took his body away and buried it someplace else--someplace only you know. Where is his true burial site? What items do you offer him, and what do you say to his spirit?

.:. Old, blind Houngan .:. This old Houngan has been in the pride all his life. Not only that, but his family for as far back as he knows were from the voodoo pride, also. His direct ancestors before him were all Mambo and Houngan, so he is one of the many chain links in a long-running family history. He is completely blind as an on-coming result of his old age. He can get around on his own with his other senses, but other pride members help him around when he needs it. He is one of the oldest, wisest males in the pride. He knows every pride member well, and he also takes the time to get to know any newcomers. Though he is up there in age, he of course still practices his duties as a Houngan, lending a summoning paw wherever necessary, and teaching the younger generation of Houngan. His personality is up to you, but being a Houngan as well as very old and purportedly wise, he shouldn't be very angry, mean or evil. (And while I can't force this, it would be common sense for him to never have cubs with any female due to his old age. Please, guys. PLEASE.)Prompt one A very long, long time ago, you had an argument with your only daughter. This argument resulted in her leaving the pride. You have not seen her since then. What was the argument about, and how do you feel about it now, years later? Prompt two The sun is barely touching the horizon, but you are on your way to a Hounfor. Who are you visiting, and why? What do you offer them? Prompt three You're out walking one morning and you trip over a good-sized stone. You manage to catch yourself before you fall, but you've strained your shoulder. .:. Secretive Medsen Fey .:. This girl is a young adult (think early 20's), and wasn't born in the pride. The Wise Medsen Fey (see below post) took her in when she was a young adolescent, and she's been training under him ever since. She is one of the few members who is being specifically trained by the opposite sex in a particular rank. She is no longer seen as a newcomer, but she is still under the apprenticeship of the older Medsen Fey male. However, ever since she joined, many have felt that something strange is going on...as if something is being kept secret--or just that the relationship of the two is a bit odd in that this female is being trained by a male in this rank more or less randomly. She stayed on the down-low for some time before she began to make public appearances out in the open. It was generally odd to the pride. The quirky looks have smoothed out as the female has been accepted into the pride over time, but...the pride was partially right.
This girl has a secret--a secret she never has and never will tell.
But there is one who knows this secret--her teacher, the older Medsen Fey male.

Age-wise, this boy is probably in his mid to late 30s. He's one of the more experienced Medsen Fey in the pride. As you can see, he's quite involved in his rank. Everything about him is up to you, but he's either a born-in member or was adopted at a very, very young age based on his level of experience as a medicine man. He's dubbed "wise" because of his extensive knowledge regarding anything having to do with his rank, but how he acts is up to you. As a Medsen Fey, he would be partly responsible for helping to teach the younger trainees in this rank with the help of other older Medsen Fey.
He knows how to make the dlo benit (sacred water for cleaning trinkets and mixing and cleansing herbs) and a lot, if not all, of the remedies used to keep one healthy or cure an illness. He knows how to identify herbs, where they are, what needs to be done to gather them, and what needs to be done to prepare them. Hey may know how to make poisons, as well as cures for some of them (yes, some). What he will and will not make upon request is up to you.
As described in the Medsen Fey rank section in the pride I/T, this boy would work with certain types of primates like baboons to help him collect herbs, as well as make certain remedies he would otherwise be unable to make. The nearby baboon troop would have a strange sort of truce with this pride, so how this lion treats them, as well as any interactions, are up to you. (Reminder: Because said primates do not exist as SoA lines, you may create any specific character(s) and RP them as you see fit. Just remember, the baboons and such that they interact with have an odd bond--a tenuous one. Baboons are aggressive, so if you choose to play one, please keep in mind that they would not love this Medsen Fey, and would not be all sunshine-and-rainbows. They would cooperate if they chose to (only for a reward of some kind), that is all. Some may be nicer than others, though. Any interactions are up to the RPer.)Prompt one The Voodoo pride has had a strange "bond" with the neighboring baboon troop, and the Medsen Fey are the ones who have the most contact with them. Being a more experienced male of this medicinal rank, this lion would have known the baboons all his life (not intimately, of course--just business), and would have developed a way of speaking with them and earning their cooperation. Today, the Mama herself has requested a re-fill of her dlo benit supply from this male personally. Unfortunately, the male is fresh out. In order to make more, he needs the help of one or two baboons. So he leaves his own territory and ventures near theirs. What's his routine? Who does he speak with, and how does he get one or a few of them to agree to help him? Prompt two This prompt is mostly a free-thought that can be whatever you feel inspired to write, but should answer the following questions: the device over his eye is made of beach glass, but who made it, and what does he use it for? Prompt three A Bokor approached you last night and requested a poison primarily made of snake venom, though they didn't say for what purpose. .:. Older Brother .:. This boy was born in the pride. He was born to a pair of reputable Houngan and Mambo, Mbaya and Ziara, but his rank is up to you. The Old Caplata (see first post) was the cousin of the late Mama who recently passed away, and she is the aunt of this male's deceased mother. So the Old Caplata is this male's Great Aunt, and the late Mama was his first cousin twice removed (someone can correct me on that if I'm wrong). Based on the subconscious hierarchy of this pride, this male has a bit of a boost up the ladder simply based on his heritage, as well as his parents' reputation.
This boy is the older brother of Uovu (whom you can read about here). Uovu was the result of the parents' second litter, meaning this boy was an adolescent when Uovu was born. Whether this male is like his younger brother or not is completely up to you.Prompt one It is late evening and you are on your way to visit the Hounfor of your parents. How did their deaths affect you? Why did you choose to visit them tonight? What do you bring to offer them? How do you feel about your younger brother seeming mostly unaffected by their passing? Needless to say, he loves the ladies (sweet Loa, the Shrinekeeps...), BUT he doesn't have a girlfriend right now. He was born in the pride and is an orphan boy who doesn't feel sorry for himself. He declared an interest in being a Poupe from a young age. The only saving grace of his reputation is his supposedly strong connection with the Loa (he is a Poupe, after all). Being an adolescent, he is still learning everything there is to know and expect about his rank. His personal beliefs about his rank are up to you. Is he just a mindless adolescent flirt, or is there a deeper side to him? You tell me.Prompt one It's the afternoon and you were supposed to meet with a Mambo in the morning. This girl has been a Shrinekeep since she was a juvenile. Born and raised in the pride, she knows all about every type of Loa, as well as how to deal with each individual one. She sees to it personally that all of the younger Shrinekeeps learn the ways of the pride and their specific rank, as she is a full-fledged Shrinkeep herself. She is a lot like the Mama rank in her own right, acting as a sort of mother to all of the younger or new Shrinekeeps. While this lioness is dubbed "motherly", she has a bit of darkness in her past. The skull and bones she wears on her necklace belonged to her only cub--the only offspring she ever had to this day. The story of the cub's death as well as her mate situation are up to you, BUT she no longer has a mate at this time. Prompt one It's raining quite hard, but the rain does not keep you from visiting your cub's Hounfor, as is your daily custom. All the way there and while you're there, you think about how he/she died. What do you bring as a gift, what do you think about, and what do you say to your cub's unseen spirit? Prompt two This is mostly a free-thought prompt, but it should answer the following questions: what happened to your mate? How do you feel about what happened? Do you ever think about finding a new mate? Every day, you post that you are advertising in bold red, or some other noticeable font. For every day you post, you get one ticket. If you decide to stop advertising after five days, let's say, and you had posted that you had been advertising those previous five days, you keep your tickets. You're allowed to take the banner out of your sig whenever you want, and you can still keep the tickets you had posted for on all the previous days you had been advertising. HOWEVER, once you stop advertising, you must post that you have stopped, and then you may not begin advertising again. This will be the last thing rolled, meaning it will come after the RP contest winners are announced, and after the free raffle is rolled.
