I bought myself a Baudelaire book in Paris, but I left it in England to be delivered by post. I'm desperate for it to get here, because I wasn't aware how much I really loved this poet. He's so ******** dramatic.

I'd always known about Baudelaire because he was a Poe fanboy, and I am a Poe fangirl, so of course I knew about him. I particularly enjoyed a translation of "Evening Harmony" - unfortunately the book I bought in Paris, while containing a lot of wonderful translations with commendable meter, has a translation of that particular poem that doesn't contain the lovely phrase "Melancholy Waltz and Languid Vertigo", so I'll have to print out a version of that and stick it in as an alternative.

Anyway.

Maybe it was my lack of exposure to this translator but I'd only read a part of Fleurs du Mal before, and after buying that copy I read some in the Palais Garnier (you're jealous of me now, aren't you?) and was blown away. My love of Baudelaire is increased a hundredfold.
