It had been a relatively peaceful day, accented only by the distant chorus of Christmas carols and low murmur of forum activity -- Gaians engaged in a range of scintillation conversation. Lazily surfing from one Exchange thread to another, Zenphor began growing increasingly dismayed at the sky-rocketing rate of inflation.
What happened to the good ol' '03 days?!
It wasn't long before she finally tossed her arms up to the heavens in exasperation, as if in supplication to Gaian designers in the feeble hope that affairs could return to the way they used to be. Preferably, when her coffers weren't empty, save for a occasional wandering lint bunny. When her silent pleas were replied with much the same treatment, she huffed and resigned to perusing the social joys of Facebook instead (blasphemous, I know!).
Some time had passed before she too grew weary of the repetition of relation scandals and status updates. Returning to her roots, she met the latest Community Announcement with some surprise, having never heard of been a part of this so-called "Modmass" due to an extended hiatus from the site. Determined to make up for lost time, she began ploughing through the wall of posts.
But as expected, her non-existent attention span caused many a painful mental face-plant. More often than not, she stole away from the phalanxes of paragraphs and deferred to the pretty pictures instead. This of course would not do. So she resolved to complete the first contest requirements instead.
By the time she had finished, she could hardly contain her excitement at the prospect of reward for defeating such an unassuming bundle of fur. How hard could it be? It was scarcely the size of her OMG (which isn't to say she has a big head, mind you). Rolling back her black, pixelated sleeves up into the crook of her elbows, she puffed her chest in a display confidence before striding directly into the Grunny's warpath. Her cushioned slippers padded soundlessly across the unblemished whiteness of the Modmas Guild post background.
This was a done deal -- she was sure of it.
Just as she had wound herself into a tightly-coiled spring, ready to tackle the bright green bundle, a sinister flash of crimson pupils - dilated beyond normality - darted her way over its shoulder. Glistening fangs lengthened behind lips curled back in a menacing grin.
.. Well. You know the rest.
Hobbling away in a grumbling fit, Zenphor made a mental note to put her toe on ice when she got back to her inventory. |
