"Thank you Natasha for the fix up! Bye!", said a pigtail-haired girl.

Kurenai jumped down from the step of Skin Tye & was racing through Durem, with her trusty Shamisen, Toshimitsu, in order get back to the southern part of Barton before nightfall. Recently, there have been reports of grunny attacks around the path that she takes home around this time & Kurenai did not feel like being a victim nor dinner. Within ten minutes of her leaving Natasha;s store, she was already at the edge of Durem & out of breath.

"Oh gawd. . . shouldn't have ran after ate Rina's cupcakes- -", she moaned as she clutched her sides, barely trudging along at a snails pace.

The sun was setting fast. . . with a feeling dread, Kurenai kept moving in the hopes of making it home. Around twenty minutes later, Kurenai had the creepiest feeling that she was being followed. With shamisen raised up like a baseball bat, Kurenai picked up the pace & started walking faster. . .

Something rustled the nearby bushes. . . she saw something glowing from the darkness, something red. . .? Kurenai was to afraid to speak, but she gathered whatever courage she had & let out a small squeak.

"He-helloooo?"

There was nothing there but the soft howl of the winter gusts.

Kurenai shivered visibly & pressed shamisen to her chest. . . "There's nothing there. . . you're just imagin- -"

Out from the shadows, rabbit-like creatures sprang in twos & threes to form a miniature blockade in front of the road with the biggest one less than three feet from Kurenai.

"ZOMGWTFWHATAREYOUDOINGHERE?!", she screamed in fright. She knew immediately what they were.

"Grunnies. . . Oh maaaaaaaaaaan.", she wailed.

The grunnies hissed in affirmation. The biggest one was watching Kurenai with it's beady, red eyes. Kurenai gasped slightly, but the largest grunny hissed louder. She whimpered in fear as she considered her options:

A: Fighting
B: Escaping
C: Become dinner

She looked around to find that the grunnies have already blocked here one & only way out. As she struggled with her final options, the head grunny started to charge at her. Kurenai felt her tears leave her eyes, but she quickly wiped them, took her shamisen & picked it up like a baseball bat. When the grunny was within rage, he lunged at her!

"GET AWAY FROM ME YOU FREAK OF NATURE!", she screeched as she swung her shamisen with all her might.

Would it connect?!

Oh Heavenly Kali above, please hit, she thought desperately.

EDIT:

Kurenai shut her eyes tightly as she swung her shamisen.

**TING!!**

**CRACK!!**

Kurenai opened her eyes slightly & then quickly opened them. She looked at her shamisen as well as her arm & saw that she didn't even extend her arm fully out, plus the shamisen had a busted string. The grunny was picking itself back up from the ground. It had a small, thin line of blood extending from it's forehead to it's snout & a mean glare to boot.

Kurenai added the pieces up:

When the grunny leapt up & she swung her shamisen, the shamisen string busted & that's what hit the grunny!

"Ohhhh Toshimitsu, I have I ever told you lately that I love you?", she cried in an adoring, sickly sweet tone only reserved for her idol.

The grunny growled menacingly as it prepared itself of another attack.

This time Kurenai was ready for the grunny leader. She twirled her shamisen a bit & clutched it like a baseball bat again, prepared for the grunny leader.

"Come on! Let's go!", she shouted.

The grunny growled demonically, calling three, less smaller grunnies to it's side.

"So, it's like that, huh?! BRING IT ON YOU CREEPS!"

The three grunnies went to bum-rush Kurenai, but she was ready for action!


EDIT:

With a second swing from her shamisen, she swept up one of the lesser gunnies & smack him so hard, he flew several feet away from the group. The second grunny tried to snap at Kurenai's ankles, but she gave him a powerful kick in the gut that sent him flying to the bushes.

"Oh snap, crackle & pop!", she exclaimed.

The boss grunny lunged for Kurenai's throat, but she shoved the bridge of the shamisen horizontally in between her & the grunny. The boss grunny started violently gnawing the bridge of the shamisen. Kurenai's left eye twitched a bit. . .

"GET YOUR FILTHY JAWS OF MY HONEY!!", Kurenai shrieked in the grunny's ear drum.

With those words, the boss grunny yelped in pain & fell about three feet to the ground. Kurenai was pissed off beyond belief now as she took up a defensive stance & waved her shamisen like a madwoman.

"WHO'S NEXT, HUH?! I'LL TAKE ALL OF YOU ON!!", she screeched, "NO ONE BITES TOSHIMITSU & GETS AWAY WITH IT!"

Kurenaai hear something growling near her. . . her looked around her & to her left was the third lesser grunny from the second attack. She quickly did a head count of the second wave & realized that she only attacked two lesser grunnies along with the boss when there supposed to be three lesser grunnies.

"Aha! You're trying skip out on me, huh?! Well, you're not getting away!", she screeched manically.

EDIT:

Kurenai scrambled to the lesser gunny smacked his head with the shamisen. A sickening **CRACK** filled the crisp, winter air as the grunny was knocked unconscious & fell to the floor limp. The rest of the lesser gruunies saw the malice in Kurenai's eyes & decided that she wasn't worth this much trouble. They preferred to live another day for another meal, than to risk this meal being their last.

With a weary sigh, Kurenai let down her shamisen for a bit & took a deep breath. . .

"It's over, thank gawd", she gasped, "I dunno how much more I can take. . ."

EDIT:

From beyond Kurenai's reaches, the boss grunny made a giant leap towards Kurenai & knocked her glasses off, rendering her almost useless.

"Oh nooooo! Damn grunny! I can't see my glasses!", she wailed.

The grunny rushed over to Kurenai & bit her left wrist.

"OWWWW! Son of a beast!", she yelped.

Kurenai squinted her eyes to get a semi-clear picture of where her glasses where. She found a small, black mold that was near a blurry, green blob. She assumed it was her glasses & quickly scooped them up before the green blob snapped at her hand. Kurenai shoved the glasses. She stood up & rushed over to the grunny, ready to deliver the final blow- -

The grunny's breathing was heavy as Kurenai raced towards him. She raised her beloved shamisen high & with fervor and malice, Kurenai struck the grunny at full force, knocking him several feet away. Kurenai hit the boss grunny so hard, she saw a fang and a few droplets of blood escape from his mouth. With a weary moan the boss grunny finally fell down on the dirt path, knocked out cold.

Kurenai gasped for breath as she looked around. . . there were very few grunnies around, most were knocked out while a few were scared stiff. The young girl sighed & quickly walked away with her shamisen in tow, and she never looked back.

Kurenai was already a mile away from where the ambush with the grunnies took place. She was clutching her shamisen tight as she rushed along the dirt road.

"What the hell was that all about?", she inquired out loud.

Something wasn't right. . . why was she attacked? Why here specifically? Why not in Durem where there are more people? As she pondered these mysteries, the spine-chilling wind began to pick up & whipped past Kurenai ominously. The moon was glowing eerily & brightly on the barren path. . . still there was no one around except Kurenai. It would still be another mile or so before Kurenai would see any sign of life. Kurenai looked ahead to see a human male, kneeling in the middle of the road. His over coat was smeared in something red. . . it looked like blood! His disheveled appearance made it look like he was attacked as well. Kurenai ran to his side, put her shamisen aside & took him by the shoulders.

"E-excuse me? Sir? Are you okay?", she asked firmly with a small tinge of panic.

The human didn't move. Kurenai shook him more firmly & kept asking him questions until he finally moaned in pain.

"Oh gawd! I'm sorry sir!", she gasped, but something wasn't right. He looked dazed & incoherent. . . She picked his face up by his chin gently & looked at him with the moon's light. His skin was an awful shade of grey. . . it looked like he was. . . dead.

"Oh ********- - !"

The man tackled Kurenai to the ground & promptly tried to bite her neck. She writhed on the floor, barely avoiding his mouth. She looked for her shamisen quickly & saw that it was at her feet. The zombies strength was overpowering & Kurenai could hardly move the lower half of her body.

"Come on, come on. . . !", she muttered frantically. She looked to her right & saw a fairly large stone that was within her reach. If she could only get it . .


EDIT:

Kurenai grabbed the stone, but it crumbled when she picked it up.

"Oh nooooo!!", she cried out, "It was a dirtclod!"

The zombie took notice of Kurenai's distraction & bit her shoulder. Kurenai felt the sting of sharp teeth piercing through her skin. She felt her vision get blurry. . . was it the end already?!

Kurenai struggled in vain against the bite of the zombie. . .

EDIT:

She tried to move, but the zombie's bite & his insane strength kept her pinned down. . . she was completely at his mercy.

The zombie finally tore away from Kurenai, leaving her with on the ground, bleeding. . .

EDIT:

Kurenai lifted her trembling right arm to the left part of her neck, she felt an opening near her shoulder & it was oozing out blood. She quickly turned around & tried to scrambled away, but the zombie wasn't done with her. His lifeless eyes quickly picked up her motion, he immediately lunged at her and mercilessly clawed at her back, in a disgusting effort to reach her innards.

"Noooooooooooooooooooo! Lemme go!!", she cried

The zombie bite left Kurenai disoriented & trembling. She wasn't expecting a half -dead human to have such strength. . .


EDIT:

She could feel the zombie claw her back, but the coat's material was fairly thick, so it only felt like someone was scratching an itch on her back. For some reason or another. . . it felt relaxing for someone to scratch her back. . .

"Ahhhhhh. . . right there, below the left shoulder blade. . . feels good man.", she mumbled lazily.

The zombie had a slightly confused look on him as he continued to strach her back.
