Last week's Developer Meeting is what, in large part, triggered the creation of this thread. zOMG! is under threat of dying, yet very few people are aware of this.
Summary zOMG!'s Development is under threat of being cut from Gaia's budget. While the current zOMG! would remain, without a Development team, it will get no updates, no fixes, and no Holiday Events, rendering it effectively dead, much like Towns.
The only remaining option to keep the Development Team together is to monetize zOMG!. What this means is that zOMG! has to start making money. And it has to make enough to support itself. If it cannot, without GaiaOnline to provide support, zOMG! will die, the Developers will be let go/reassigned, and everything we've fought for will be for nothing.

cnoisy SykoCaster cnoisy wasn't there sometin about Gaia's core features? like the forums and stuff
idk i think it was sometin about how they were gonna have to focus on the core features instead of zOMG!, and then a small argument went on bout how every1 thought that zOMG! was a core feature
Existing zOMG! is, updating it is not. So they'd rotate the servers. But they wouldn't add any new content/fix any bugs.
...I believe.

thats wat would happen if they just stopped working on it...ya, it would just stop getting updates, but it would still be there, but they also said that before anything bad could happen there were still some things they need to release like the expansion of bb and the coliseum, etc.

zOMG needs several things to become more playable, and compel people to spend money on it:
- The ability to "mark" places in the world and instantly "recall" to them using a spellbook (an idea I stole directly from Ultima Online, by the way)
- The ability to open up a temporary "gate" to/from said location (again, from Ultima, an MMO I played for about 7 years)
- The ability to take people to your house in this, or a similar, manner
- The addition of player-run stores with player-crafted content
- A team of in-game "event mods" who can create daily "quest events" for people who find them.
-----------------------------------------------
If some or all of those additions came to the game, you would see a marked improvement. Also, I think it could use more dungeons, better dungeon design, and more unique items in treasure chests.

Event Quests, I can agree with. I've been telling them to make a system for easy quest design for a while now.
Teleportation has been discussed, and is planned as a Power-up item. Everything else, though, exists as part of Gaia. We have Gaia Housing, which you can warp to. We have a player-run Marketplace.
