Hey guildies~! Crew member Slate here. I have now, as of December 22, 2010, completed my umpteenth playthrough of .hack//INFECTION, and I have decided to create another guide to help those poor, unfortunate souls who have fallen astray when encountering the Final Boss of this game.

While reviewing my previous guides--and noting how many grammatical errors I made while composing them--I noted that Ω Hidden Darkside Holy Ground was the hardest part of any .hack// game. While this still holds true, I would also like to assert that Skeith reigns as the series's most difficult boss.

. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS //

Q: Who is Skeith?

A: "Riding the Wave is Skeith, the Shadow of Death, to drown all that stands." ~Epitaph of Twilight~

To be put quite simply, Skeith is the First Phase of the Cursed Wave, the destructive force hellbent on destroying the world while simultaneously attempting to delay the progression of Aura's awakening. Known as "The Terror of Death," Kite becomes quickly acquainted with this fiend in the dungeon of Δ Bursting Passed Over Aqua Field, almost immediately after Kite's first Login. He and Yasuhiko, the player controlling Orca of the Asure Seas, first observe Skeith chasing Aura in the field's dungeon, and while the creature initially ignores the duo in favor of his prey, he opts to fight them after Aura's bequests the Book of the Twilight to Orca. Skeith mercilessly Data Drains Orca, placing Yakuhiko into a coma in the real world, but Helba, the infamous hacker, interferes in his attempt to repeat the action on Kite by banishing him from the area.

The rest of INFECTION is spent attempting to gather information about the creature's whereabouts, until finally Aura messages him, pleading for him to quickly assist her at Θ Chosen Hopeless Nothingness. However, despite their haste, Kite and BlackRose arrive too late and watch helplessly as Aura is Data Drained by Skeith and divided into three fragments. The fight begins soon afterward.

Q: Why would I want to defeat Skeith if he is so infamously difficult?

A: It's required. He's the Final Boss of INFECTION, and if you don't defeat him, you cannot place a Data Flag on your Save File, and you cannot transfer your hard work onto MUTATION. And we don't want that, now do we?

Q: What Monsters will I encounter before Skeith?

A: The following monsters can be encountered pre-Skeith.
Mantis
//Mantis cast Ap Corv on themselves and other monsters (temporarily increases the Attack of the target).
//Mantis yield the Rare Heavy Axeman weapon Giant Hill when Data Drained.
Metal Goblin
//Metal Goblin yield the Rare Blademaster weapon Jinsaran when Data Drained.
Cursed Blades
//Cursed Blades yield the Rare Long Arm weapon Million$ Spear when Data Drained.
Mu Guardian [Dungeon]
//Mu Guardian cast GiGan Zot (Level 2 Earth Spell) often and should be taken out quickly with Wood Spells, Scrolls, or Skills.
//Mu Guardian yield the Rare Twin Blade weapon Bom-Ba-Ye when Data Drained.
Goil Menhir [Dungeon]
//Goil Menhir cast Rip Maen to revive dead monster allies.
//Goil Menhir should be taken out first in battle. If 2 appear, Data Drain 1 then defeat the other.
//Goil Menhir yield the Rare Heavy Blade weapon Shikisokuzeku when Data Drained.

Acquisition:
This is part of the Time Set received by completing the Zeit Statue
Challenge, meaning that you create an area with "Chronicling" as
the First Keyword. The goal of this is to reach the Zeit Statue at the
end of the Dungeon within 2:12 in order to beat Balmung's time. This
was my strategy:
Δ Chronicling Pagan Sunny Demon
Kite may do this area solo; just bring a Speed Charm and Sprite Ocarina.
IMMEDIATELY use a Speed Charm and head West for the dungeon.
Ignore the wandering Monsters that attempt to impede you.
DO NOT use Fairy Orbs nor gather treasures while in the dungeon.
