After years of hard work and chipping away at unfounded fears, I've finally got my girlfriend to actually want a handgun. She wants a revolver because she thinks they look cool/cute/sexy/whatever. I want her to have one because they're simple to use. Unfortunately, I'm more in tune with the automatics on the market, and have little idea of what I should be looking for in regards to a revolver. I'm thinking some sort of a snub-nose in .38 Special, but beyond that I'm more-or-less clueless. Any advice?

Smith and Wesson. They cost more, but you can find a fine used revolver that won't make you regret the investment.

Stay away from Taurus! The only value in having one in your hands is that it is good for pistol whipping when it breaks. I've never seen so many in the used gun cases around town and at the gun shows.

Have her shoot a couple different things. I've found that generally, a snub .38 is rarely the way to go. If she's dead-set on it, you should be good with pretty much any major brand revolver, based on whatever little differences set your ind on one or the other.

Just because I see more rare collectibles on the used racks at my shop than anything else doesn't mean they are bad, It means someone had a reason to sell them. I've never had an issue out of my taurus .357 snubbie, or my PT1911 before I sold it for bill money. Or the 907 Slim in my mother's dresser.

Ditto on the .38. Maybe a small .357, if such a thing exists, since it can take .38 Special.

She should keep in mind that small-frame revolvers are usually the hardest types of guns to shoot well. But I'd have to recommend a Ruger SP-101 with either the 2" or 3" barrel. It would tame the recoil and giver her more to hold onto than a j-frame.

smaller hands necessitates smaller grip

ususally a J frame is better for women because of that.

you dont wanna give someone something big that they cant get a decent grip on as that would negate all efforts to control the weapon.

The obvious answer here is an old Ladysmith model.

You want a grip size that fills your hands well and is not particularly big or small. The SP-101's standard grips seem ideal for a lady. And they're long enough to get all three fingers on.

Yep, that one's got decent stocks. Nice-looking, too. I kind of dislike how they make the revolver look unbalanced, though.

I think I see what you mean... it's the funny curve on the back of the grip, I think. A new set would fix that.
