*General Rules* 1. Please follow all of Gaia's ToS.
2. Please remember that this is an rp contest, so you will be expected to actually rp the character.
3 No bribing, whining, complaining, crying, etc. in hopes of winning. We're all teens to adults here so lets act like it.
*Contest Rules* 1. Once again, please please remember, this is a RP contest! RPing is the most important factor to this contest. If you have no inclination to RP, I ask that you not enter at all. The pride really needs some active members . . . please don't apply if you have no intention of RPing.
I understand RL gets in the way of fun but we would prefer if people who do enter are not only willing to RP, but also help plot within the pride. There's lot of potential here for drama, romance, clashing, and finding friendship. Take advantage of it!
2. You may enter for all that you qualify for, but you may only win ONE cub from this thread!
3. This contest is open to anyone and everyone, no matter if they have 800 Soa or none at all. Everyone is encouraged to enter!
4. These cubs must stay in the Kitwana'antara, and should not leave the pride in the future.
5. Please keep the history and rules of the pride in mind. The Kitwana are different than most prides, and not only do they deal with some serious issues everyday, but they also have some tight rules on leaving the borders. Please read up on the actual pride rules.
6. We ask you don't edit your entry once you ship it out. We'll be reading the entries as we get them and chances are might not want to go back and re-read every single one again.
7. Please be literate as well. You don't have to be a great rper but we do ask that you at least put some effort in to the prompts.
8. If you disappear without a trace, we reserve the right to rehome these characters. Should RL force you to go missing, just ping myself or the pride mule a note about your hiatus and all will be well!
9. Remember to have fun! This is meant to be enjoyable!

There is a lot of information concerning the Kitwana'antara. For those of you who'd like the full scoop, please peruse the Pride Subforum here. *Brief Summery of the Pride* The Kitwana'antara have never been large or dominating. They are located in a quiet valley with hills and more mountainous terrain to the east, and a larger lake to the west. They tend to be isolated and their numbers small due to a plague that keeps their lion count rather small. The plague is contagious only to lions and lion-hybrids. For lions who contract the disease it is always fatal, though some can fight it off or keep it at bay for many, many years. There are a small few who will become carriers of the disease, safe from its torment but a danger to other lions; and an even smaller few that are naturally immune. Because of this, the Kitwana'antara frequently rely on leopards, cheetahs, hyena's and any outsider help they can find. Familiars and non-lion species are welcome members to the pride - they are often nurses, hunters, nannies and protectors for those too sick. Furthermore, there is often a ban on lion-members leaving the borders. . . . Their disease is far too risky and to spread it would be horrible. To cause others to suffer from such an illness is not something the pride would ever do and as such only on rare occasion are lions allowed to leave the borders. Currently the pride has just gotten over a slew of hard times. A secondary plague hit all pride members, cuttng their numbers down significantly. On top of that, a war with a neighboring pride cut their numbers further, causing much distress and chaos in the lands. The old queen sacrificed herself in hopes of healing the God of Plagues wrath against her kind. This left her very young successor, Nawiri'chiwa to begin anew and lead the Kitwana'antara to renewed prosperity. *Brief Summery of the Family* The Father: - Nyeusi - played by Pinchmonster He willingly helped Elera when she asked for his help to provide more healthy members for her pride, but he was a drifter. He never found out if his help came to any fruition. The Mother: - Elera'plova - played by Talencia Elera is not the stereotypical mother. She has never sought out true love, never dreamed of having fluffy balls of fur curled up close to her. Just the opposite, in fact. She is a stalwart and confident loner, pessimistic and slightly grouchy on a daily basis. She tends to be antisocial and sarcastic when she feels scorned or looked down upon. Despite these traits, though, she has a good heart. Kitwana'antara earned her respect and allegiance by facing adversity with such patience and good spirit. She joined the pride because they were the first she'd ever met that deserved her devotion. It was this devotion that drove her to choose to birth cubs. Though she had absolutely no desire to be a mother, she knew that the pride would benefit from more young creatures that were immune to the ravaging disease. Thus she chose to seek a male to father cubs for her. She saw no dishonor in it, and feels the cubs are treasures to the pirde. That does not negate her lack of mothering skills, however. She knows she is unfit to be a proper mother, and thus will likely leave the parenting to minders. She will be involved, will show affection once in a while, and will probably have more to do with the cubs as they get older and more independant, but as cubs they may not see much of her. (This could give you easy license to get to know others in the pride, since she would not insist on being with them at all times!) Auntie Bird - Piera - Played by Talencia Elera tends to call Piera "momma bird", but refers to her as "auntie bird" to the cubs. While Elera might not be around much, Piera is much likely to be present for the cubs, emotionally as well as physically. She is a much gentler, motherly sort. She listens well, scolds and reprimands in a loving way, and cares deeply for her little charges. It will not be uncommon for her to swoop out of the blue sky to see what is wrong if tears or raised voices occur. She is a good friend and surrogate parent, and will always be reassuring the cubs that their mother loves them as well. A Sister: - Haravana - Played by Lorne_Sionn As an adult: Haravana is a bright female, and is generally even tempered. She can be a bear however if the healer she is working with isn't listening to her. In which case she has no problem voicing her opinion, loudly. It probably comes from being marginalized by her mother, but as a grown up, she makes sure she is heard when she knows she has something to contribute, and if she doesn't, she listens so she knows for later. She is a tireless worker, and if a herb is needed, she will find it, no mater how far she has to travel or dig. As a cub: Friendly, and kind, with a deep compassionate nature that will later lead her to be an Apothecary for the Pride. Another Sister: - Keiko - Played by Soarin' She's a sweet friendly leopard that has love and affection for everyone she meets. She's playfully and often looks at life with a bubbly mood. Nothing gets her down, not even water which she generally hates. She just wants to be the center of attention- be that good or bad. Though she doesn't try to get into trouble it sometimes follows her just because of her carefree look on life.

RANK MY FUTURE! Your Name: Sapphire-Cyanide Cub's Name: Faiza Meaning: Victorious (African) Prompt Reply: Faiza would grow to become ranked as a loyal GAURD to the K'A tribe, moving towards the borders of the prides ruled-land and sitting there daily and sometimes throughout the night, keeping and eye out for outsiders who may be coming to help the pride she protects, and anyone who is allowed to roam beyond the borders. But Faiza's keen magenta colored eyes are ever watching the horizon for outsiders who do not bring good will as well. Faiza as a cub is playful and a bit of a fighter even in her young age, getting a little too rough when rumbling about with other healthy cubbins, and occasionally surprise attack her caretaker and getting scoldings for it. Even though she is a bit rough, she makes sure to try and be a little gentler with cubs who aren't so healthy yet still like to toss and tumble if they feel better on some days. Because of this "strength" factor of hers, she would grow well into practicing her skills and making them rather lethal to those who even TRY to invade the borders of the K'A prideland. She is a strong and healthy young leopardess, though she cannot be considered the best of the best in terms of ful-on battle. Faiza would not quite grow to be a well-esteeemed Warrior, as she would still be learning and trained by other pride warriors to be the line of defense for K'A's dangerous borders and keeping the members of the pride from possibly trying to slip out if they are not allowed to, or letting those who are approaching to cause harm pass the borderline she protects so strongly. Tell me something you like about K'A: I think I like the fact that though this pride is a little strict due to the fact of the plague, they are very open to help from outside species and seem to have a caring nature overall. They aren't violent and accept help given towards them willingly from others, and in my mind I think a lot of prides in real life terms would not accept such open feelings. I read through the pride rules and ranks, and I'm overall new to not only SoA but to the B/C scene in general. So it may take me a bit to understand how things are run around here fully, but I am excited nonetheless and like the idea of a infected and death-filled, yet friendly pride trying to make it through the harsh problems given to them. EDITED WITH TALENCIA'S PERMISSION. THANK YOU!

PLOT MY FUTURE! Your Name: Annchen Cub's Name: Nifol Meaning: dark (old English) Future Rank: Scout Prompt Reply: I'll just write as if I would if I wrote a plot thread for him. Teach me I'm not invincible! You'd think that a cub raised in an environment filled with disease and death would learn to be humble and to appreciate the fragility of life. Yeah, not Nifol. Being untouchable by the disease will make him reckless and leave him with a sense of immortality. He's very confident and usually accomplices what he sets out to do (mostly since he's confident he'll succeed). There's one thing he wants but can not get however, the title of warrior. After a nasty run in with a healthy lion outside the pride lands he's not as keen on defending his pride in head on battle anymore. Instead he will train to become a scout, and use sneaky tactics to get the upper paw. Danger in the roguelands I'd like him to take a stupid risk while on a little trip in the roguelands, perhaps as an adolescent. He'll get into a fight with a lion and nearly pay for it with his life. In his world lions are often weak and sickly, and he's play wrestled and won with lions his own age in the pride. He knows that there are healthy lions out there, but his past experiences fill him with a sense of false security. In short: I need you adolescent lion to beat him up! Bonus points if it's a girl. Before this incident he toyed with the idea to leave his pride, but afterwards he will want to stick closer to home. In the K'A he might be invincible, in the rougelands - not so much. Back on the horse Thanks to the excellent healers of the pride Nifol didn't get any physical scars after the fight. His mind is another matter... For a while he gets very depressed and doesn't believe in his own abilities anymore. I need someone to talk him out of this funk and suggest that he might be an excellent scout and help the pride that way, even if he can't become the strongest warrior evar... Love hurts I'd like Nifol to fall for someone in a big way. Either a puppy love thing that develops slowly, or something when he's an adolescent or young adult. Species doesn't matter here (but... uh... feline please). The whole thing ends with her dying in some way he can't rescue her from, either the plague or something else. Could also be reworked into "she leaves in a way that makes him think she's dead" if you don't want to kill off a character. A breeding before death maybe? But not necessary. He learns the hard way that he can't take life for granted, and turns slightly more humble. And after this he closes his heart... He don't want to be hurt again, so he refuses to let himself love. He might fling or even take a mate (if assaulted by a matchmaker) but only for the good of his pride, and he will try to keep his feelings out of it (Good luck with that Nifol!) Needed for this plot: feline girl, matchmaker to bother him later??? I have some more ideas, but I think these will do for now. I want some things to develop in RP too. I get this vivid image of Auntie Birdie nipping his tail when he does something he's not supposed to do, but that's not a plot idea... Tell me something you like about K'A: The realism, the potential for drama and dark RP... I have a hard time finding something I don't like.

LESSONS LEARNED Your Name: Ice Queen Cub's Name: Chacha Meaning: strong Future Rank: nurse Prompt Reply: Chacha stopped, his eyes widening slightly as he watched the cub walking ahead of him stagger slightly, falling silently, slowly to the ground. Chacha knew he should go forward, that he should help the lion cub get to his feet. He knew that this had to be embarrassing to the other boy, but he couldn't move. He stood there, watching as the other male, one who was supposed to be larger than he was, but wasn't, coughed pathetically. The bony chest rose once, rose twice, then paused. Chacha's breath stopped, as if by not breathing maybe he could empathize with the other male. He let out a ragged breath as the chest moved again, a shallow, pathetic breath that Chacha felt himself cheering for with his entire being. "You can do it," he whispered, but his little voice didn't carry to the other male. Again the chest rose, a breath filling the little lion's lungs. Then it stopped. Time seemed to hold still, the world losing its color as Chacha started holding his breath once more. Five seconds. Ten seconds. He waited, watching, not breathing. But the chest never moved. Adults came forward, too late. Calling for others to help the cub, blocking Chacha's view of the other male. The little leopard gasped for breath, his heart pounding hard against his chest, echoing in his ears. He hadn't--he hadn't done anything. He had just stood there, he thought as tears threatened, then fell from his eyes. He hadn't done anything. But next time, he thought as the tears fell silently down his cheeks, next time he would. Tell me something you like about K'A: The drama!! LOL<3 I can just see Chacha falling in love with the lioness he's caring for, and being totally brokenhearted and torn by the whole ordeal! I was all "Nooo, I just got two new cubs I need to plot for" and closing the window, but then I just kept opening it again because this drew me back. Wicked, wicked competition and gorgeous boy crying

PLOT MY FUTURE! Your Name: Sapphire-Cyanide Cub's Name: Bello Meaning: Helper Future Rank: Scout Prompt Reply: Quote: Bello stalked through the grass of the K'A pridelands quietly, though he wasn't too far from Piera, otherwise better known by the cubs as "Aunty Bird" who was perched on a dying tree, watching out for them with her keen little eyes. She was more focused on Bello at the moment who seemed to be slinking about all day, peering up from over the ridges of rocks and spotting his magenta eyes gleam through slits of grass. Soon enough though she called out to the young leopard who was straying away further than he needed to from her sight... "Bellooooo! Where are you going? Please come back to where I can see you, dear... Belloooooo!?" Piera chirpped to the cubbin who had stopped moving about and seemed to be staying very still in place. Maybe he was hunting something he saw? A small bird mayhaps even. But oddly, he did not move nor respond to the caretaker. "Well I never." She huffed softly to herself and soon flew from the tree to meet the cub face-to-face to scold him gently. "Bello! What have I told you about wandering off all day? I'll have you--" Upon her landing, it turns out she had been shouting at a dark colored rock that resembled Bello. Soon enough Aunt Bird was in a tizzy! Where had one of her dear cubbins gone!? "Hey Aunty Bird! This is why you wouldn't make a really good scout! You were fooled by me with a rock~!!" Suddenly, a playful male voice sounded back from the tree where Piera was roosted on, and high up in one of the branches over his siblings who were romping around beneath it, was the dark colored leopard cub hiding in a tiny bit of shade that was casted from some patches of leaves on the old tree. Piera seemed to sigh with relief before flying back up to her post near where Bello was and craned her neck up to see him well blended in. "You tricky cub you! Scaring my poor little heart like that, I ought to ground you from such games like this. It's frightening to think I'd lose you! I certainly wouldn't like a rock as your replacement!" Aunty Bird ruffled her feathers from a shiver of worried but then calmed her voice. Bellos' ears were folded back, knowing he was in trouble for worrying her. "You know, you'd make a very intelligent Scout for this pride; just like your mother. Very helpful. She would have been proud to see me scared out of my wits while you're over here, hiding and watching me this whoooole time~ She'd probably would have spotted you though before I would have." Piera chuckled and Bello flicked his tail, smirking and still blending into the shade like a shadow, closing his eyes to rest lazily for a hour or two until dinner. Tell me something you like about K'A: Just the realism of the tribe and the fact that everyday is a struggle to survive, more than usual. I think it has a lot of potential to develop my idea for this cub a lot.

RANK MY FUTURE! Your Name: nessiaing Cub's Name: Sabri Meaning: Patient (Arabic) Prompt Reply: Sabri was named with the hope that her short temper that she exhibited from birth would be short lived and she would grow to be a little more patient in her dealings. As Sabri gets older though it will become evident that the hopes that she would be a more tollerent adult will be dashed. She takes after her mom in the fact that she isn't one for touchy feely times. Because of her lack of caring feelings towards others or patience in general Sabri will decided to take the rank of Apothecary. Sabri feels that its the only rank that she would be any good in is that of apothecary, this way she able to help those in the pride who need it but keep mostly to herself. Due to the fact that she is a leopard she will be immune, no lion blood in this girl, she will be able to travel far and wide to find the best herbs needed. She will be dedicated to her pride as she sees how dedicated her mother is an would never want to cause her and shame. Tell me something you like about K'A: I love how active the pride is! I have fallen in love with too many prides and then had them fall into inactivity. I love the general concept of the pride as well, the chances for drama are unending at that makes me smile.

LESSONS LEARNED Your Name: noxilicious Cub's Name: Mauja'gonjwa Meaning: [roughly] ''Threat of Illness'' even though as a leopard, he cannot contract the disease. Future Rank: Hunter or Master Hunter [?] Prompt Reply: [ Didn't want to use death because I felt like it would be too similar to Ice Queen's response :3 ]
There is an ending in all beginnings.
That's what his mother had told him. Not that Mauja ever really listened. He found it difficult to follow the advice of a mother who was never there. Not that he blamed her. There was a connection shared by mother and child that cannot be broken. It can be torn, shredded and worn down by years of misuse or neglect. But it is still there. An eternal love that flickered under his breastbone whether he wanted it to or not. But however, he was, in a word, bitter. It was hard not to be. Though, he supposed, if he had a typical caring and devoted mother, his night time wanderings would probably have ended a long time ago.
There was a peacefulness in the night that let his mind wander without fear of intrusion. The moon was marred by a sheath of clouds, but it still provided enough light to walk by. The ground had retained its warmth from the scorching sun of day and it felt soothing on his paws, combating the cold of the night that sank into his fur. A tendril of brush moved a ways in front of him but there was no breeze. Lowering himself to the earth, covering his white belly, he all but disappeared into the surroundings. Creeping forward silently, he spotted a flailing bird with its right wing trailing low to the ground. Stupid thing. He snuck forward in order to end its suffering with minimal noise and pain. That is, until he saw the eggs. They were pale creamy color, glowing softly in the few rays of moonlight that shone through the cloud cover. He paused.
This bird had a family. A spark of guilt held him back though his paws itched for the kill. A mother with a family. He held back, waiting to see if she was able to return to her nest. The bird flailed again, struggling forward. But in a flying streak of brown feathers, it was gone. Searching the sky, he saw the agile form of an owl flying away with its next meal. In a moment of curious excitement, he followed, a grounded tan and white streak trailing the dark blur in the sky. It seemed forever before the owl finally alighted in a tree, side stepping down the branch to a well concealed nest carefully constructed against the tree trunk. Even from where he stood, Mauja could see the small pink bodies of the owlets the mother owl was feeding from the carcass. Bald heads balanced on scrawny bodies, beaks parted in a silent plea for what little food the mother owl could provide.
Even when raised in the hell of the desert, these owlets must survive. The mother owl needed them to. The realization of this set fire to understanding in his eyes. The pride must survive. It was this perception of the future that they strived for all their lives. Even when the lions fell sick and died, there had to be a new generation of cubs to replace them. The young and the healthy to care for the old and ailing. The circle of life. In the simplest of terms.
Mauja wound his way back to the den, tired from his excursions, stepping over his sleeping siblings with practiced ease. He lowered his small form to the dust of the den floor, resting his head heavily across his paws. The circle of life. To preserve the new generation. He flicked his tail at the thought. The need for the pride to survive even when after one rested eternally below the ground. Maybe what his mother had done wasn't so bad after all. She had done it for them.
Tell me something you like about K'A: The realism created by the presence of this disease and how it has affected the pride. It is such an interesting idea that you can really get enveloped by, rp wise. Usually, most SoA prides scare me because I'm still so new but this one, I find fascinating. A pride so fallen from the favor of the Gods who once smiled upon them, struggling to rebuild as this illness continues to ravage through their ranks, it's something that I definitely want to be a part of.
