A young striped cub rose to his paws and took a few steps from the mouth of the den where he’d been resting. One of his older sisters watched him in silence but made no motion to stop him so the blue-eyed boy kept walking until he had a better look of his surroundings. It was pretty quiet, no adults as far as he could see and really not much to do besides watching the clouds, trying to stalk the birds or playing with pebbles and dirt.
He decided to turn back and see if any of his siblings was up for a bit of play. Honestly, he had so many of them that there was a pretty good chance he’d find a cub with the same interest in mind. Then again, it was far too quiet for any of his brothers to be awake just yet. It was an usual thing for Dumaka to be the first to wake up from a nap and he didn’t really know what to do on his own.

Eudeyrn was tired. More so than usual. The disease seemed to hit him hardest on days when he had planned to go gathering for Haruma. The thought bothered him more than he should have let it, but he couldn't help it. For all he espoused being egalitarian and each member paying their own way he couldn't ignore the fact that he wanted to provide for her, to make her life easier instead of more difficult. And he couldn't even bring her the plants she'd need to help others. He could smell the trickle of blood running from his nose but made no attempts to stop it. It would only start again the first time he coughed or sneezed. He felt pitiful, useless, and worst of all he found himself feeling angry because of it. The gods were true and kind, they had to appreciate the strength shown in the face of adversity. He wasn't showing any such strength, just disappointing again. His head in the clouds it wasn't until he had nearly tripped in the cub's tracks that he noticed its presence. Forcing a smile he asked, "A little small to be out on your own? Be careful or someone as blind as me might just step on you."

“Hey…!” Completely caught off-guard, Dumaka piped up faintly when it appeared as if he was going to be stepped on by the older boy. He sighed with relief when Eu stopped and spoke to him and the cub tried to remember who he was. Not one of his many siblings, that much he knew.
“I’m Dumaka. I don’t remember your n-…” The cub started introducing himself happily, wondering if he could get the older male to play or at the very least talk to him for a while but he froze instantly when he spotted the blood trickling down Eudeyrn’s nose. “YOU’RE BLEEDING! You should, youshould… healer! You should go see the healers!” He was panicking a little. “Are you serious about being blind too? Is your head alright?” His nose wasn’t good, his eyes might be blind… what else was wrong with him?! Was he dying?! No, no! It was too soon!
