OK, so we have common last names for each culture... so I've been wondering, is Asuma related to the Sandaime? Cuz they both have the name of Sarutobi...or is it a common name?

Well, "saru" means monkey... so I think it's a personalized name for Sandaime. I always thought Asuma and Sandaime were related; I never thought about it the other way. I don't think "Sarutobi" is a common name. Especially since "Sakura" is an extremely common name, and we only see one Sakura in the series.
