My Betta Fry I found last week at Petco.

I found this baby Betta last Thursday at the local Petco while in search of a new male for my divided tank. I got her along with a White Male Super Delta tail. I picked her up because she's about 4-6 weeks old and obviously not able to eat adult Betta food on her own. Due to this and her being only a fry, I knew that I could give her the extra care she needs to survive.

This is her in her 2.5 gallon tank, exploring and eating bits of flakes that where crumpled into crumbs. I'm currently awaiting the new batch of BBS to hatch. The stuff you see floating around are bits of her food and air bubbles from the filter. Also, you can't see it in this vid but the ray branching on her back fin suggests that she's a crown-tail. She also may be a he. It'll become more apparent in a few weeks.

Looks like she has a problem with her spine. I could just be malnutrition, if thats the case, she just needs for good food, but if its an injury or developmental thing, it could cause problems later on that may lead to her needing to be out down.

She's quite cute, though. I bet she'll love those BBS!

I'm thinking at the moment that it's just malnutrition, because she wasn't able to eat the pellets they feed their Betta at the store. She can straighten out the curve in her spine a bit more since I got her Thursday. As she gets older, as long as she's able to swim around, eat, and have the will to live she'll be fine. If she ever passes it'll be on her own or due to not having the will to live.
