Mafuta'Mla was searching for something. Something important. The only problem was that she couldn't quite remember what it was. A bone? A trinket? Some enemy she needed to fight? She just couldn't remember! And she couldn't ask anyone about it, because she just knew that it was something secret, something that would really show her greatness. Maybe.... maybe she could find someone and trick them into reminding her?
Yes, that was a good plan, she was good at tricking others! So good, the best at it even. The large, bulky female laughed to herself as she sniffed around, hoping that she could catch the scent of whatever she had forgotten - that would both remind her of what it was and help her find it, as well! This was going to be a good day, she could tell. So very wonderful and full of food. It would be.
She knew it.

Tukutu swatted a bone out of his way. He kept telling everyone to keep the main pathways in the graveyard clean - it wasn't going to do any good if some fool tripped on it and hurt themself.
"Fools," he snarled to no one in particular. Part of it was him. He was getting a little too old for this, and it was be shameful to hurt himself because someone was an idiot.
HIs green eyes darted around, wondering where the bulk of the pack were. Probably lazying around, expecting someone to feed him. He only hoped his growing daughter could turn this bunch around.

Mafuta looked up when she heard a bone clatter around somewhere off to her right. Immediately the female hyena altered her course toward the sound - maybe there was someone there, someone who could remind her, or maybe even what she was looking for in the first place! Or maybe it was even some lone, stupid creature that had volunteered itself to be a meal.
She picked up the pace as she draw closer to the source of the sound, and barely held back a whine of disappointment when she saw that it was just another hyena, not a snack. Then she remembered her original goal, and her eyes brightened, her excitement returning. Perhaps she could remember what she was looking for now, with a little unknowing help!
It wouldn't be hard at all to trick an aging hyena, high-ranked or not! Time to be subtle, tricky, intelligent!
"Have you seen what I'm looking for?" That was subtle, right? Mafuta thought so, anyway.

Tukutu glanced over at the hyena. Newer...but then nearly everyone felt newer to him. It was mainly him and Mafa that build this damn pack. At least he could say that he had been building it up more in his old age. Not that he was any more active than he had been when he was young. Tukutu was a lazy a**, but worries are what kept him walking around so much.
"Matters what yer lookin' for," he answered in return. Usually it was a scrap of food, or water. Something to survive with.

Oh, was he trying to trick her? He was, he must be! Well, she was too smart for him, and she wouldn't be fooled by an ancient hyena's attempts at trickery! She tilted her head and pawed at the ground for a moment, debating on the best, most subtle trick she could possibly think of.
"You don't know what I'm looking for?" There. Subtlety, she was amazing at it. She puffed up a little, proud of her achievement in the art of deceptive manipulation. Any minute now she would find what it was that she needed.
Any minute now, yep.

Tukutu snarled. How the hell was he supposed to know? Gah, surrounded by idiots. Sometimes he swore that he was the only sane one around here.
"Probably food," he answered. "Everyone's always lookin' fer food."
Most of the hyenas would eat outside of the lands, and rarely brought anything back. Mainly because it would disappear before the one that caught it could even eat it. Selfish bunch here.
"Or water, ah guess."

Oh, oldie was in a bad mood. Well, Mafuta couldn't really blame him. She would be grumpy too if she was as old and easily-tricked as he was! Still, his suggestion didn't sound right to her, and she shook her head.
"No, no - that wasn't it," she said, turning around in a circle and pacing as she tried to recall what it was. Why weren't her clever manipulations working? Maybe he really knew nothing.
"It was important, you must know what it is!" the female grumbled, kicking at a bone fragment on the ground.

Tukutu couldn't help himself. He gave her that look. The one where you just couldn't imagine this being real. He had to be dreaming. He'd rather deal with a furious Mafa (wherever she was) than listen to this.
"I think yer the first 'yena ever to decide tha' they were not lookin' fer food." In the history of the whole freakin' savanna.
Well, if she kept this up, she'd be an easy one to feed. Geez.
"Bones?" he said half-heartily. They were surrounded by bones.

Oh! Oh, that was it!
How brilliant was she to be able to manipulate him into telling her exactly what she needed to remember? The most brilliant, of course. She was the smarted hyena ever, yep, not to mention one of the best-looking!
"Of course that was it," she said, smirking and all-too-pleased with herself. She needed to find a lucky bone! That was what it was, she needed a perfect lucky bone and she had to find it! Now to see if he knew anything about lucky bones - this would be easy!
"What about... special bones?"

....Well. That was....interesting.
"A'course," he echoed. Of course that was what she wanted. He shook his head, mainly for himself. She probably wouldn't get it, and he wasn't going to explain it to her.
"I know of a good place," he answered quietly as he narrowed his eyes at her. She was going to be more of a handful than he previously though. "If ya follow me, I can show ya."
And he was being honest. Really.

"That's no good then," Mafuta said, scowling and pawing at the ground. That wouldn't work at all! She needed a lucky bone, and if it was a 'place' that he knew of, well then it would lose all of its luck because it would leak out or... or something. Oldie had just run out of usefulness in the moment.
"I can't find my lucky bone if it's in a place others know about," she said, flopping to the ground dramatically before popping one eye back ipen to stare at the old Consort.
"I'll just have to look on my own again. Later." When there weren't any oldies around to try and trick her!

Tukut growled. "Ah bet I know where it is." He paused for a moment, just to see if she was going to listen. "Rare spot, it is. The bone collector puts the fresh bones in one place."
He'd see if it worked. And if it didn't? Well, it was no loss to him. He just figured that dumping her into a pile of fresh bones would be a clean and easy way to get rid of her.

Wait, this was - this was good! Oh, yes just like she'd planned, he'd caved and was going to lead her to the best spot for lucky bones! Mafuta... wasn't really sure of how, exactly, she had manipulated him into this, but she knew she had. Her skills were just that amazing!
Jumping to her paws, the female bounced back and forth, an excited smile on her face. "Really? You'll show me, won't you?" And then he would leave, and she would have the best lucky bone she could ever find! The best! Oh she was too good at this, she almost felt sorry for the older hyena at being taken in so easily.
Almost.

"Yep," he said. "Just dun share it with anyone else." Not that it mattered that much. It'd get picked over eventually, but normally the bones around here were left alone unless someone decided to start hoarding them.
"Jus' follow me." He turned around to show her, to guide her through the piles of old, dusty bones. Eh, he wasn't a big fan of them, only the marrow that was inside the freshest of them. This girl could have whatever she'd find out of the newer piles that the collectors piled up.

Mafuta didn't answer verbally, she just nodded happily and bounced around the old hyena like an overgrown pup. Her lucky bone, her lucky bone, she was going to find her lucky bone! And all thanks to her fantastically amazing manipulation skills! Oh, she was the smartest, the most skilled, the best hyena to ever live!
Her eyes sparkled and she parted her mouth in a happy cackle, delighted at this turn of events
