PLOT 2004 - 2006: TIME OF THE TYRANTS
(OOC Thread Unavailable)

>>>Chapter 1 - Makadari's Reign

Before the plague, the Firekin were known as bloodthirsty, merciless tyrants; and for good reason - it was all true. Legendary for their blood-marked pelts, impressive size, skill in battle and their cruelty, they even enslaved rival prides to serve beneath them. They lived in the Motoujamii desert, under the divine influence of their patron goddess; Finar-Si (for whom they dedicated everything to). Xenophobic and ruled by tradition, the old ways served the Firekin well for many decades.

Much of this lore, however, became forgotten in the plague disaster that followed. This is what is remembered:

Makadari, King of the Blood, had four children; two sons, Kiu and Mwali, and two daughters, Jua and Mwezi. He was a cruel leader, arrogant and confident in his skills and yet, at the very first immortal whisper of a prophecy that might destroy his pride, he found and killed his daughter, Jua, and left her cubs - the children of an infidel rogue - to die on the sands. His other daughter, Mwezi, disappeared shortly after, along with two slaves by the names of Kitwana and Dama.

Soon after, a newcomer entered the pride: Kinja, supposedly a lost member of the Motoujamii. She captured the attention of the pride's heir, Prince Kiu, and birthed him six strong children and heirs to the throne. Sadly, he would never get to see them grow.

At around the same time, Mwali - one of Makadari's sons - also proved himself a traitor to the pride's ways and took his leave of the Firekin.

Not long after, the plague came. It ravished through the desert, taking the lives of both Kiu and Makadari along with many other members of the pride. Family lines were devastated by loss and, when the sickness passed, only a mere handful remained. The pride, scattered, fell into a state of ruin, and nearly all the customs and lore were lost. Thankfully, however, Kinja and her cubs lived to see the new age; though no one would realise, until much later, that Kinja was not as pure of blood as had originally been believed.

When the royal cubs were older, the goddess, Hestia appeared and stole away the eldest son and first heir, Kavuasi. Kinja, meanwhile, had taken the roll as Queen Regent until Kimeti, the next in line, became old enough to rule.

>>>Chapter 2 - Kimeti's Reign

Upon reaching adulthood, Kimeti took up the throne and the title of King, freeing his mother, Kinja, from her duties as Regent. Soon after this, Kinja departed the lands, leaving them in her son's capable paws.

It was not long into Kimeti's rule that word of his sister, Kwana, gathering alliances to overthrow him came to his attention. Obliged to defend his inheritance, he confronted the lioness only to have their battle for power to be interrupted at the unexpected return of siblings Kavuasi and Kafara.

Backed by his returned family, Kimeti banished his sister, Kwana, and maintained his title as King of the Firekin.

Soon after this, old members with blood-ties to the pride of Makadari's time began to return to the lands they had abandoned during the plague. Among them were mates; Nuri and Chomo and the siblings; Teleka and Mpeka. However, many of those that returned were of the royal line, related in some way to Makadari himself. Now the Firekin had a new dilemma to face; a lack of blood lines would mean no cubs. No cubs meant eventual extinction.

Unknown to the pride, the goddess Finar-Si also returned to the pride during this time under the guise of a priestess, ‘Karama’. She bore Kimeti six healthy cubs and the eldest son, Kidondo, was entrusted to the pride to educate and nurture. Kidondo, keen to appease his father, set out to learn all he could about the ways of the pride. Ironically, in his desire to be everything his father would want in an heir, he discovered that there was something terribly wrong with the way things were. The pride that his father was so proud of was rotting; falling apart without him even realising. Visionary and intellectual, Kidondo began to question the Firekin's faith and traditions. It would only be a matter of time before he became curious about the outside world and the so-called 'inferiors' he had heard so much about.

PLOT 2006-2008: TIME OF CHANGE
(OOC Thread Unavailable)

>>>Chapter 1 - The Exiled Prince

Soon after, Nuri – one of Kidondo’s mentors – left the lands, deeming them cursed. Months later, she would be pleasantly surprised to find that the young prince, Kidondo, had left the lands to track her down to seek further aid and wisdom.

By mere coincidence, Kidondo's journey to find his old mentor brought him across the path of another, like-minded soul. Her name was No, a pridelander with a pelt like shadow. Impressed by her boldness, Kidondo began to realize that the Firekin had severely underestimated the strengths of outsiders. They were certainly not all the 'inferiors' that he had been led to believe, but brave and strong with a fire of their own.

With No's help, the pair managed to located Nuri amongst the bones of an elephant graveyard and the three of them began to hatch a plan to give the pride a new hope. Together, they would rally the Firekin and drive out any traditionalists who refused to see the benefits of change. First, however, they would try to appeal to the King, hoping that he might also see the wisdom in their vision.

Kidondo, with No at his side, returned to his desert home not long after leaving. The plan was simple. The prince would attempt to appeal to his father whilst No, in the guise of a slave, sought to gain an understanding of the pride's workings and the morale of those who lived there. No's meetings brought to light the dwindling faith in many of the existing members, giving hope that change - even drastic change - might be welcomed by the majority. Unfortunately, before Kidondo had a chance to broach the subject with his father, King Kimeti discovered the pair of them together. Outraged that his son would chose a slave to be his mate, he exiled the young prince from the lands.

>>>Chapter 2 - Recruiting New Blood

Realising that his traditionalist father would not change his ways by words alone, the exiled prince set off with his companion No, more determined than ever to carry out his plan. If words would not work, he would seek a more forceful approach instead. Together they would gather an army of worthy rogues who would, upon victory of the Motoujamii, be permitted to stay as Firekin themselves. This search took them far and wide across the unclaimed lands but their efforts were rewarded.

No was not the only gifted outsider to wander the lands. Rogues with fire of their own stepped up to offer their aid and soon they were returning to the desert with an army behind them.

Elsewhere - other opposing forces were gathering.

Plagued by visions of her homeland, Koka (Kidondo's sister) returned to her homeland; intent on killing Kimeti and claiming the land as her own before Kidondo returned from his exile. However, her efforts were in vain and the assassination - attempted by Koka’s young daughters - failed. They scattered back into the desert, leaving the king with little more than an injury to his leg.

>>>Chapter 3 - The Rebellion

Not long after, Kidondo and No reached the borders of the Motoujamii with their army of rogues in tow. And, as the sun rose on a new day, Kidondo and No approached the lands to address King Kimeti. As expected, words were given no time to be spoken and, no sooner had he made their presence known did the lands fall into chaos. The traditionalists turned on them, starting a bloody battle that saw kin fighting against kin

Leaving the rebels to fight those who refused to accept change, Kidondo headed to the dens to seek out his father and instigate their duel. It was a short but violent fight that ensued but Kimeti's recent injury from the assassination attempt gave Kidondo all the edge he needed. And, though badly wounded, the exiled prince emerged victorious from his duel and returned to join his followers in battle.

Fortunately, however, the traditionalists had been driven back by the sheer power of the rebels and those Firekin who had sided with them. Knowing they had no chance to win at their current strength and numbers, they withdrew to the borders and begrudgingly left the desert for the rebels to claim.

And on that day Kidondo and No claimed their title as rules of the New Firekin: The Motoujamii-Simo.

But this would not be the last they saw of those who had refused to accept change.

The traditionalists made the journey to the western side of the desert where they regrouped and set up their own pride, led by one of their strongest: Queen Kenna. Separate from the heretics but always in their shadow, the bitter traditionalists planned their revenge against those that would desecrate their laws and turn away from Finari-Si's teachings. They called themselves the true firekin, the Motoujamii-Safi, and they vowed that one day they would return to their former glory.

PLOT 2008 - 2009: TIME OF DIVIDE
(OOC Event Thread)

>>>Chapter 1 - The Safi

Ruled by Queen Kenna, of the famous line of Makadari, the small group of Safi Firekin - along with their slaves - settled in a neighbouring stretch of desert where they attempted to build themselves a temporary home whilst they plotted vengeance on the rebels now living in their sacred lands. It was a time of both hope and despair and those that were able to, bore litters to increase the number of the population and return some strength to those who were waning in faith.

Some members, early on, abandoned the Safi to return to the Simo so that they could be with family and loved ones who had stayed behind. Others departed the desert altogether, seeking some new life in the rogue lands beyond.

Amongst those to bear children was the Queen herself. A strong, large litter of little princes and princess, sired by Jiryan - a rogue. Another was an elderly traditionalist by the name of Ripuka, paired to a male who was not a Firekin at all. Unfortunately for Ripuka, the outsider blood from her mate cursed her with another unnatural coloured cub. Distraught and knowing that the golden cub would be killed, she kept him hidden away from outside eyes. During this time her mental state took a desperate dive for the worse and her faith in Finar-Si - that had kept her going for so long - died a horrible death.

However, the issue of blood lines and future generations troubled the Safi Queen greatly, concerned that their future children not pay for their past mistakes. Unfortunately, there seemed to be no easy answer to this issue, not without breaking the laws they had fought so desperately to keep.

A few weeks later, the old traditionalist, Ripuka, made plans to steal her unnatural child out of the lands and take him back to Safi where he could be cared for. Unfortunately, she ran into trouble on her way there and was struck down as she defended her child. She never returned to the lands and her death put anger into the hearts of the family that remained.

Ironically, after Ripuka's death, the goddess Finar-Si returned to the lands to give her loyal followers some guidance. Through an unexpected audience with Queen Kenna, Finar-Si spoke of the closeness of the Blood and the choices that lay ahead. The first; to allow the pride to die out. The second; to join with the rebels and work within their pride to slowly reclaim the traditions. To raise new children as traditionalists. To remember Finar-Si's teachings. With promises of a priestess who would bare the traditionalists one last litter before they merged with the rebels, Finar-Si departed, leaving Queen Kenna to carry out her will.

Queen Kenna acted swiftly and, when the new litter was born to Priestess Karama (Finar-Si), she gathered the pride and informed them of the plan to return to the rebels and build strength in secret so that they might - one day - retake what is rightfully theirs. Some lions could not be persuaded and took their leave into the rogue lands (including Rap - the son of Ripuka - who blamed the Simo for his mother's death). Fortunately, most agreed this was the most suitable course of action to take and - with faith in their queen and in their goddess - followed Kenna across the borders and back to the lands of old.

>>>Chapter 2 - The Simo

With new leadership came new rules.

Under the care of Regents Kidondo and No, a new ranking system was quickly distributed amongst the members. With the royal line abolished, the pride took a move towards democracy, instating a council and reorganising the duties of pride members. Wanting the pride to settle as soon as possible - in case the Safi made another attempt at attacking - the Regents set about head-hunting potential Firekin for promotions to help them drive the changes home.

Azarax - one of the few tan-pelted lions permitted to stay for his aid in the war effort - was given the rank of General and with his aid, the army began to develop.

As to be expected a large number of cubs were born in the lands in the weeks that were to follow and, with rumours of change spreading, more rogues began to make the journey across the desert to seek membership amongst the Simo. Even Nuri - Kidondo's old mentor - returned with one of her sons, to see if her dreams had become a reality. She arrived to find a pride bustling with life and hope and that even the Regent pair had a litter of their own.

However, one day, a distant roar echoed from the borders. A roar that belonged to a mortally wounded Ripuka. Attacked by rogues she died that day in the lands she had been born and raised in, but not before handing over her golden child into the care of the Simo lions and her elder son, Azarax. The Regents agreed to take the child into their care and he became the first official huria of the pride - raised until he was old enough to make the journey out into rogue lands.

Not long after this tragedy, the remnants of the Safi returned to seek membership, seemingly willing to accept that they could not go on as they were. Kidondo and No met with Kenna at the borders to discuss the terms and, after a meeting with the council, agreed that to move forward they needed to work together. The Safi were accepted back, though they were regarded with suspicion for some time to follow. Eventually, however, Kenna would find her place amongst the council, as a symbol of a united front to the pride.

PLOT 2009: TIME OF SUSPICION
(OOC Event Thread)

>>>Chapter 1 - Murder Mystery

At the same time as preparations were being made for a Firekin tournament to help ease tensions towards Safi and Simo, a band of rogues arrived seeking membership. Seeing that the group were a promising bunch, Kidondo and No permitted them temporary accommodation until the tournament’s completion in which they could then seek out duels to earn their right to stay. However, with the dawn came not only the beginning of the tournament but a terrible revelation. One of the rogues, Epesi, was found dead. His wounds suggested a short but violent surprise attack. Kimacho, with the agreement of Kidondo and No, set about questioning those with possible motives, including his own group of rogues. It was with some frustration that all of these possible rogues and Firekin came with their own set of motives for carrying out the murder.

During the interrogations, Vlam - a member of the Firekin - became the next target; was attacked from behind and left for dead on the sands. Thankfully, the white lion survived the ordeal, though his health prevented him from giving Kimacho any revelations on who the attacker might be.

Fortunately, over the following days, Kimacho's investigations managed to pry through the lies and the secrets and, called a meeting with the Regents and those incriminated with the killing of Epesi and the attempted killing of Vlam. In detail. Kimacho described each suspect and their motives, striking off first Mtenga, Serafina and Kenina and then young Azar'bijan and Nasiha. Then, of course, there was Vlam - who had been a suspect before he had become a victim himself. The attacks were so similar that Kimacho was convinced they had been committed by the same person. Siri'wasii, then, was also cleared of any wrongdoing. Which left, of course, Tepe; the weakest of the newly joined rogues but perhaps the most intelligent. And with Kimacho's evidence against him, claimed he to be the guilty lion.

Angered and desperate, Tepe launched himself at Siri'wasii - the female he had obsessively loved - and took her hostage, threatening her life unless they set him free. And in that moment, as he backed away from the crowds, an unseen firekin leapt out from her hiding place. The ex-queen of the Safi struck true, landing a crippling blow that snapped the young lion's neck. A move that both rid the lands of the murderer and brought a new wave of trust between the ex-leader and the current Regents.

Then, at last, with Tepe dead and the crime solved, the Regents agreed that the remaining rogues could either take their leave of the lands or remain to seek membership within the desert. Kimacho was one of those who chose to remain, taking up the new role of Spy Master amongst the kin.

PLOT 2010: TIME OF MISPLACED VENGEANCE
(OOC Event Thread)

>>>Chapter 1 - Exile, Death and Second Chances

Left bitter and angry after his mother's murder, an ex-Safi, Rap, returned to the lands to seek his vengeance on those he believed were responsible. Now, fully-grown, and aided by Hakan'mawasii (a disciple of the God of War), Rap sought to get by the guards with the help of an old ally by the name of Rowtag. The three of them met at the borders and Rowtag agreed, reluctantly, to lead the pair across to the den of Kidondo and No to fulfil an old promise made rashly as a youngster. Unfortunately, their conversation is overheard by Rowtag's mate, Zii'moto, who immediately rushed to find help.

Rowtag successfully led the pair of rogues across to the dens and, with his job done, slipped off to make a hasty getaway, not wanting to get caught helping them now that he considered the Firekin home - something he never believed would happen.

Hakan'mawasii and Rap attempted to attack the Regents only to find that the den was empty and, before they could change their plans, the pair are flanked by General Azarax and an old family friend, Kibela. Rap, realising that this pair were close to the Regents, realised that killing them would be as good - if not better - than killing the Regents themselves. He leapt into action and Hakan followed after, the four clashing in a short but violent duel. Having severely underestimated his opponent, Rap was knocked off-guard by Kibela and left vulnerable. Then, in a moment of sacrifice, Hakan'mawasii leapt in to save him. The selfless act, in turn, proved fatal and the dark lion met death at the jaws of the Firekin, Azarax.

Afraid and wounded, Rap managed to escape in the confusion, though he was quickly pursued by other members of the pride; Chaka, Shisa and Korofi. Eventually, in pain and exhausted, Rap collapsed at the borders and could not move any further; even when he heard the approach of the patrol. By a stroke of luck, the searchers proved merciful, realising that Rap was misled in his beliefs and that he was, in fact, a close relative. They agreed to let him go so long as he never returned and the three of them reported back to the Regents that the assassin was dead.

PLOT 2011: TIME OF HARDSHIP
(OOC Event Thread)

>>>Chapter 1 - Hongshan Arrival

Of course, after a long period of growth and stability, it was only expected that trouble would come again - as it always seemed to. Unfortunately, for the Firekin, this new trouble proved a lot worse than any of them could have predicted.

It began with the arrival of refugees from the north, travelling together with some hopeful rogues they had met on their journey. They came seeking shelter from a monstrous force that tore their home and loved ones away from them.

After their acceptance into the pride, it wasn't long before rumours of a monstrous force in the north began to sweep through the ranks of the pride. However, these rumours sparked curiosity rather than fear; something that angered the refugees, who had seen first-hand what the foreign, unintelligible lions were capable of. Determined to ensure that the foreigners would not destroy the Firekin as they had destroyed their home pride of Hongshan, the refugees began to press the need to strengthen the army; spreading the word of the lethal force that could be heading in their direction. This elitist, pushy attitude gained the newcomers both respect and annoyance amongst pride members.

But, as if to spite them, the Hongshan's attempts at strengthening the pride were soon overshadowed by a new problem. The water sources had begun to dry up, slowly but surely, leaving the Firekin facing a new enemy. An enemy they could not fight with tooth and claw.

And so began the time of the drought.

>>>Chapter 2 - Drought

Weeks of dry weather in the Motoujamii went from uncomfortable to relentless. Numerous water sources which once fed the pride evaporated into little more than mudpools. Initially, the pride assumed it would be just another lean season. But weeks continued on, and the water that remained slowly began to dry up.

Tensions heightened and many soldiers, hunters and other classes took up the mantle of water-seeker to help hunt for any small caches that remained in the desert. Others, however, began to demand that the pride's leaders make a hard decision: to prioritise the water to those important for the pride's future. With no sign of rain and the growing tension and anxiety the Regents called a meeting with all pride members, allowing every adolescent and adult to put forward their views on how the water should be shared. Should it be shared equally in small amounts or should some members be prioritised over others. Each option came with its disadvantages, but, after a huge turn-out and an extremely close call, it was the vote for equality that won out.

The Hongshan, of course, were amongst those who were angered at this decision, knowing now that everyone would weaken instead of just a select few. And a weakening pride had even less chance against an invading force than a strong one.
