Golden optics narrowed a fraction, focused on the critter which scurried across the surface of the ground. Some fat beetle unaware of the attentive young lion poised gracefully atop an exposed tree root. His dark flank allowing the little one to match the tree's coloration. Riddi's snout wrinkled a fraction, the tickle of his tuft of hair tickling at the wet tip of his nose. Blowing a jet of air up to flip the patch back, Riddi lifted his eyes a fraction to watch the longer strands of fur hover momentarily before flopping back over his face. A single paw rose to comb back the thatch of fur neatly in one fluid swoop. When his eyes returned to where he last left the skittering beetle, the male growled in protest at the bug's departure. "Heeeey!" Lunging from the tree root, Riddi swiped a paw at the open air in attempt to swat down the airborn bug, but missed from his lack of practice. Landing daintily, the male circled around below the beetle as it hovered momentarily before flying off. "Hmpfh. Dumb bug." Inflating his cheeks slightly, the cub glowered in the bug's general direction in which it departed.

Star-speckled ears flitted forward and back against pale fur, the movement much like that of a frantic heartbeat. But even that comparison was a truth, as the pale lioness was indeed breathing rapidly as she jogged across the swampy terrain. Her movements, normally graceful and balanced, were unrefined and caked with mud as she continued on her trek.
And here she thought it was going to be a calm and peaceful morning. Until she had done the routine head-count and came up one short.
With a sharp command to her remaining cubs, Mohana had left the den in order to find her wayward son. Embarrassed by her situation but too worried to care, the new mother lioness asked every pride member she crossed if they'd seen her boy. Although it didn't help that this son blended in with the swamplands so well. Everyone she met gave the same sad reply; there'd been no sign of him.
Scoffing to herself and relying on her nose, it took some long minutes before she heard his voice in the distance. A frown settled in her white muzzle as she marched over the slick hill to stand and stare down at the sight below her. And there he was, frolicking about without a concern in the world.
"Riddi.."

Sunlight dappled the youth's flank. Beams of light showering down from the thickly intertwined branches overhead. Plopping his rear on the ground, a cloud of dust lifted from his sudden seat. While the swamps were shaded, the humidity was trapped beneath the criss-crossed branches which caused the tuft of hair on his head to frizz a bit. Riddi took notice and licked the underside of his paw before flattening it on the patch of fluff. The slender length behind him snaked around along the ground as Riddi fumed silently to himself.
It took him awhile. But eventually the young cub noticed... Where WAS he?
Twisting his head around to get a look at the surroundings, Riddi grasped for anything that looked familiar. Nothing.
"Oh nooooo..." The cub whined, glancing around and shot to his feet. Circling around once before pausing to glance around again. Riddi realized his mistake. Having followed that pesky bug earlier after it settled on his head. When he swatted it off, the bug merely resettled on his back, which launched the entire escapade. He weaved through the swamplands after the bothersome critter. So focused on the quarry, Riddi didn't notice just how much distance he put between himself and the den. Little did he know, mother was looming over him not too far off in the distance. If Riddi wasn't so frantic, he might have recognized the familiar scent of his Momma. Tensing suddenly, with a burst of energy the little one tore forward through the brush in a random direction, "HAAAAALP!"

Shaking her head, with a mumbled whisper against her lack of parental attention, the white lioness began her trek down the swampie slope. If she hard the sharp alertness of experience, she'd doubt that her rambunctious cub would have gotten so far. But he had all the same, and with no immediate danger in the situation, Mohana couldn't help but give a light smirk. He really did take after her...if compared to her childhood. She could only wonder just how many of her cubs would take after herself and their father. And speaking of other cubs, she needed to return to the den soon, this time with lil Riddi by her side.
Winding around thin and braided tree branches, the swamp native moved without a sound in hopes of catching her son off guard. After all, a worthy scolding never hurt anyone, right? And that's what any good, caring parent would do if her cub did wrong. Right...?
All these ideas flew out the door, however, when a high pitched scream cut into the humid air. Ears sharpening upward and with golden eyes gleaming, Mohana leaned forward to spot her still-distant cub. Crap, where did he go?! With a kick of her own, the new mother raced out from the trees to where she last seen Riddi. A quick scan of the scuffed earth gave enough clue for her to know which direction he ran. Mohana scoffed before racing after the boy. Longer legs and familiarity with her homelands made for a fast chase, and it took mere breaths for her to catch up with Riddi. Granted his fur made for excellent camouflage, his panicked state only made him an easier target.
With a short leap, the mother pounced her way ahead of Riddi and stopped dead to block the youth's path. Turning sharp eyes on the cub, she waited for his reaction.
