Omari aka Es'Kuro
Blou'siel aka Azure

Omari
Omari had once believed that joining Nemeios’ ship was the best thing he could’ve done. He liked the calm demeanor of his Captain and while the green lion had high standards for his crew, he respected Omari’s occasional desire for solitude. There was a time to be social and then there the time for peace and quiet. Everyone seemed to understand that. Except…

Omari frowned violently as he noticed a blue shape of one of his mates drawing closer. Gods of the Sea! Not right now. He was lying down with his head resting on his front paws as he watched the waves hit the beach. Didn’t that directly translate into “leave me alone”?

Blou'siel
“He’ there, matey!” the cold eyes of the blue lion deeply contrasted with his friendly disposition as he approached the younger spotted lion. “Whatcha doing, Sandy?”

Blou’siel grinned as he bumped his head on the pale colored lion – a friendly gesture he knew Omari greatly disliked – before sitting down next to him. As far as the dark lion was concerned, no one this young with a normal cubhood should act like such party pooper. At least that’s what he told Omari on a great number of occasions.

Omari
Azure.

“Don’t call me that.” Omari grumbled under his breath, his nose wrinkling at once. The name of his matey sounded like a growl inside Omari’s head. Why?! Why was that blasted blue son of a mermaid always following him around? Wasn’t it obvious Omari truly hated being disturbed when he took the time to find a secluded place to rest in silence? Well... most lions would say no but most lions weren't Omari. “Why do ye always come at the worst times? Have ye really no sense at all?”

Blou'siel
Siel pretended not to listen as the younger lion grumbled, pointedly looking away - as if he had just found something very interesting on the horizon - while he was being quietly admonished by the adolescent.

“Where ye birdies?” he asked suddenly looking around Omari as if he was hiding them under his paws. After a while – a long while for Omari who had to take deep breathes in order to endure a rather extensive inspection – he spoke again as if he had assumed that using Omari’s nickname was the reason why he couldn't get an answer. A small peace offering of sorts – even if they were never truly at war. “Es’kuro…”

Omari
The sound of his pirate name greatly startled Omari though he tried not to show it. Azure usually called him “Sandy”, the dreaded nickname he had always hoped never to be stuck with and Omari hadn’t yet grown accustomed to his new name despite being quite happy with it.

“I ate them.” He said with a yawn knowing full well the other wouldn’t take him seriously. Actually, he’d told Knut and Galleon to fly around the shoreline looking for pretty shells and other trinkets they could find while nurturing a silent hope they wouldn’t return. But he knew Azure liked the birds – they often served as a welcomed buffer between the two lions – so he didn’t feel too inclined to tell the truth to the idiot who was disturbing him.

Blou'siel
“Aye aye, little missioner. Sure you did.” Siel said with a grin, giving the younger lion a light shove with his head, greatly disrupting the growing mane and bringing a long scar to the light. The blue lion frowned ever so slightly, knowing full well the story behind the mark even if Omari himself rarely talked about it.

“Your scars are healing up nicely.” He said in a more serious tone as he readied himself for a less than pleasant reaction from the younger lion.

Omari
Omari greatly disliked the blue lion’s tendency to be so physical in just about everything he did. And he disliked even more when someone mentioned his encounter with the viking adolescent not too long ago. He’d told Siel about it when he was under the influence of heavily-fermented fruits and he regretted it ever since. Omari had become deeply revolted by the mere sight and scent of the fruits and was careful to keep as far away from the spirits as possible.

“Are ye trying to pick a fight?” the sand-colored lion said somewhat aggressively, slowly rising to a sitting position, his blue eyes locked on his matey with cold hard stare.

Blou'siel
“No.” Blou’Siel said very seriously, a tone that wasn’t all too common for the blue lion. “But I was wondering if ye wanted some extra practice.” So that the next time ye meet that damned son of a storm, you tear him up ta'pieces.

“I’kno ye training already but ye should spar with as many lions as you can, Es’kuro.” The older lion said in much the same tone, pointedly ignoring any unfriendly signs Omari sent his way. It wasn’t long until he was grinning again. “After all, I can’t have such a wimpy little cubbin guarding me back, now can I?”

Omari
Omari visibly deflated against the blue lion’s unaffected demeanor. His ears perked up and for a few moments he appeared to be curious, interested even. It was a good idea indeed and Omari was committed to his plan of becoming stronger by any means necessary.

“In other words…” the younger lion began slowly, stepping closer to the pirate he knew only as Azure with a small smile. “You’re in the mood for a little sparring session.” And without so much as a warning (unless one was to count his sudden friendliness as a warning) the sand-colored lion tackled Blou’Siel.

He could tell Azure was trying to help him while trying not to make him feel bad at the same time so it was easier to just forget what he’d said and think about what the adult was offering – it was something that he could certainly accept from a fellow crewman.

Blou'siel
Azure didn’t really know the younger lion that well and even he found that little smile of his suspicious. Still, he hadn’t expected to be suddenly tackled by the lion he hoped to call friend one day – as far as he knew, Omari was still a bit sore and bruised even though he rarely mentioned anything remotely related to the Viking encounter. With a string of laughs and chuckles, Azure skillfully dislodged his body from under Omari and, claws sheathed, threw a paw his way. It was just a friendly spar, after all, meant to increase the younger lion’s skill and confidence.

“Eager, are we?” he said with a slight tease in his tone “I’m afraid facing the mighty pirate Azure will not be that easy, little sprog.”

Omari
“Mighty? You? Ha!” Omari scoffed lightly but he was grinning when the mighty pirate returned to his paws. The blue lion’s paw hit him harder than he had expected but the pain was momentary only and no mark was left in its place. This was not a fight to the death after all but a mere exercise between a crewman and a missioner… a harmless spar between brothers. Omari didn’t feel threatened or angry – though he did growl a little as he tried to pay the blue lion back with a hit of his own – but actually a little excited. Even his new adornments seemed to jingle happily as if following his mood.

Blou'siel
Blou’Siel grinned back and he looked somewhat mischievous as he retreated and dodged Omari’s hits like a demon. It would be ridiculously easy and unfair to simply defeat the younger inexperience lion because he felt like it. It was much harder for the easily-excited Siel to give Omari time to grow, to improve before starting the kind of serious fight he desired. And boy, did he need to improve! It wasn’t long until Omari was panting and frustrated, unable to hit the older lion no matter how hard he tried. Despite his abundant energy, Siel actually wasn’t a bad teacher. He knew he had to end the exercise on a positive note so he waited until Omari seemed to be about to give up before “clumsily” lingering on a spot for a little too long – a chance Omari took without much thought. The younger lion’s paw hit him squarely in the face. Darn, the little sprog had a heavy paw.

“Alright, that it. Good job.” Siel said with smile as he jumped away from the sand-colored lion, one ice blue eye still closed from the hit. “We’ll continue this tomorrow. For real.”

Lesson number one: always leave them wanting more.

Omari
Bliss as he finally managed to hit Siel. Worry – in a small amount but it was there – when it appeared as if he had injured the blue lion’s eye. And finally disappointment, when the lesson was cut short so suddenly. Omari went through the motions in his mind without allowing them to manifest in his posture or expression. He accepted the older lion’s decision, aware that his muscles were still far too unaccustomed to these exercises.

“Tomorrow, I’ll make ye taste the sand.” He said in a clearly friendly provocation, trotting forward to walk by the blue lion’s side. He didn’t smile this time so his tone alone indicated that he wasn’t issuing a death challenge.

Blou'siel
“Ye wish, Sandy.” The blue said as he shoved the younger lion playfully, laughing as he received a deadly cold glare. “Ye wish.”

He now had to create a plan for the young missioner’s training. His stamina, for instance, truly sucked if he could be so blunt in the confines of his own mind. He’d have to start taking Omari with him during his morning runs. What use there was for a pirate who couldn’t protect his brothers, his captain? None. Oh yes, Blou’Siel was already plotting the younger lion’s training carefully. He had great expectations for Omari.
