Kasi was at the dueling area again, but it was getting late in the evening and most people had left. She was tired, but she was enjoying the dropping temperature. The drought was still potent, and though they had decided how to divide the water, the lack of water was still damaging to some. Equality gave everyone a chance at life though, and Kasi was grateful for the voices of the pride for supporting that choice. She tilted her face up to the sun, basking for a moment, before a somewhat familiar noise sounded.
Mtifuifu fluttered his wings as he landed – directly on Kasi's head, gripping her mane tuff with his talons in order to stay put. “I should have known I would find you here,” Mti said, slightly exasperatedly. Kasi was always at the dueling area if she could be. She'd probably sleep there if the nights didn't get so cold.
“Did you need something?” Kasi asked her self-appointed-familiar, and shook her head to dislodge him. He squawked at the movement but took to the skies to hover near her instead of on her.
“Is there something wrong with wanting to spend time with you?” Mti asked, sounding slightly offended.
Kasi shot him a look. “The female birds get tired of you following them?”
Mti bristled. “I don't know what you mean,” he protested, and Kasi shook her head. Mti had confessed to helping the search for the missing lion – where he had met Kasi – because a cute bird had been nearby. Kasi had never quite let him live that down, although he did like finding other birds to talk to, so the others getting tired of him was quite possible anyway.

Though it was late in the evening Xennek had a burning sensation -almost as if the sun was still glaring down his back- of being watched. Sighing the large lion looked back up at the sky towards the spot which kept gradually getting closer to him. What was this bird's problem? He had already told her where he was going and that everything was fine.
Such a nuisance.
"Do you always have to go out here?" Flapping her wings Bhjara landed at the sand by the lion's paws, "I don't see the point in this stuff sometimes. Especially during this type of situation. Don't you-"
"Nope. Nothin' makes sense. Get over it." Sighing Xennek shook his head at the hawk. Would she just leave him alone? Ever since he had stumbled over her in the desert the avian had stuck to him like a second pelt. As much as he sometimes appreciated another pair of eyes, especially in the sky, the watching had to stop.
You would think I'm some prisoner or something.
Sighing again the lion nearly walked past Kasi, but managed to stop in time to spot her. "You!" His grin was wide and full of relief. Finally something to do other than being chased by a bird! "Ready to try again?"

Kasi hadn't noticed Xennek approaching, so she was surprised when he called out, but a crooked grin appeared on her face at his words. "You," she called back, laughing. "You bet I am. I'm going to win this time too," she said, and set off towards the nearest clear area, though it wasn't hard to find one considering the area was basically abandoned for the evening.
She fell into a relaxed position
Mtifuifu stared at the male who had approached Kasi, struggling to remember his name but he couldn't. Why did all the lions look the same? They were all red, or white, or black or some combination there of! How was he supposed to remember the name?
The bird, however, caught his eye. Mti glared at Kasi, and wondered if he should keep an eye on her, but he decided against it. Kasi was a big girl, right? She was always telling him to leave her alone, after all. Mti ruffled his feathers, making sure they were all sitting smoothly, before fluttering over to the fellow avian.
"Hello there," he said smoothly.
Kasi waited for Xennek to ready himself. Perhaps they should have talked, exchanged pleasantries, but Kasi could do with a good battle, and she knew Xennek would give that to her, so why bother chit-chatting about it?
"Your move!" She called out, her body tense waiting to see how he would fight tonight.

"Hah! You wish." Smirking the male lion watched as Kasi approached the dueling area. It was a good time to duel. He felt energized today and rela-well maybe not too relaxed. That stupid shadow on the sands by his paws belonged to that bird after all. How could he relax with her here? He should have just left her in the sands...
Looking back from Xennek Bhajara just glared at the other avian, "What?" He gaze raked him over once before she turned back to the lions. There was no way she was going to let this guy distract her from watching that guy down there. He was far too much trouble.
"Oh me?" Xennek grinned, "I suppose that I could finally start for once..." Pausing he took a step backwards before suddenly twisting and running straight at Kasi. Was that a bird's shadow though? Blinking the lion stumbled and missed his opponent by a hair before tumbling into the sands.
"Hah!" Bhjara shook her head at him from her new perch, "I knew you would have missed that way~!"
Xennek just glared at the bird before pulling back and standing again to face Kasi.

Kasi laughed as she dodged Xennek’s move, pleased that the male was off to a bad start. That was a bad thing to think, probably, but she wanted to win. She hated losing, and Xennek was a good sparring partner. If he was doing badly, then she was going to do well, which is what she wanted. “Off to good start, Xennek,” she remarked, while launching herself forward.
She aimed her claws for his side, scraping them against him before bouncing back away, grinning at the hit. Ha! First hit of the match.
Thankfully for Kasi, her bird was not particularly interested in mocking her at the moment, focused instead on the female he fluttered next to. “Oh, don’t mind me,” he said, “I’m just being dazzled by your beauty.” He shot Kasi a dark look when he heard the lioness snort – loudly – at his comment to the other avian.
Kasi shot her bird a look that just said ‘what the heck are you doing?’ and shot Xennek a look that asked him the same question, of what her bird was doing. Was he seriously hitting on Xennek's bird?

“Haha.” Xennek replied with sarcasm dripping from his voice. She was probably enjoying his mess. Even better yet when she got the first hit of the match from him. Wincing against the sudden sting of pain Xennek had to close his eyes to focus. Surely he could find it here…he just needed a moment to –
“Hah!”
Damn that bird! Xennek looked up and with a groan had to hand it to the other avian, “Be careful, mate! She’ll eat ya alive!”
“Oh, focus on losing your match!” Turning her gaze away Bhjara focused her glare on the other bird, “Well you can go be dazzled elsewhere or do it silently.” Clicking her beak she shook her head. Males!
Pushing the bird out of his mind Xennek managed to lunge at Kasi before tumbling into thin air. Tasting sand the lion spat. Well that was a fail.

Mti fluttered his wings, looking smug at Xennek’s words, announcing loftily, “perhaps I like it rough!” Kasi’s shudder of horror only made Mti perk up in amusement even more. Ohh, it was too fun tormenting Kasi, Mti mused happily, refocusing on the female before her.
Kasi grinned as Xennek missed, bounding to the side and chuckling. “Tsk, tsk, Xennek. I hope you’re not trying to be gentlemanly – you haven’t laid a hit yet.”
She walked carefully around, watching him, but was distracted by the bird’s conversation again.
“It would be a crime to be dazzled quietly,” he said smoothly. “You deserve sonnets and epic tales written of your beauty.”
Kasi scowled, glaring at her bird. “Is this romance going to have a tragic ending? Because let’s skip to that part, so you shut your beak, Mti.” She was distracted from the fight, taking her gaze from Xennek for a moment too long.
