This weather... Msrah was a young adult still so he was more annoyed than worried about the hotter than normal season. His friend Tay suffered much more with her darker coat, but even for a light coloured lion it was getting pretty toasty. He had a break from his work as a nanny and used the time off from the little hooligans for shameless slacking in the shade of the temple. Some other lions and lionesses were doing the same so he was in good company. It was the smart thing to do, really. Come evening it would start to get bearable to do things again, and then he'd take his shift watching his group of cubs. They'd probably be all excited from staying still and napping the entire day so he better get some rest now.
He yawned and stretched, shifting slightly to see if he could find a cooler patch of the stone floor to lie on.

The heat was always a welcome change to the jungle and ruins on Zehoret's frail body, and entering the Temple she didn't really know it was abnormally hot unless she looked at the others. However, she'd been to hunt and returned with a bite to eat for two, a proud moment for her, being too sickly normally to eat, and she took some to others before her legs gave out, and she rested. The heat felt good, but Zehoret had a hunch she was getting another cold. She nodded politely to the young male moving about and smiled before laying down. Blargh!

Msrah nodded back to the lioness. There had been an influx of new pride members recently, and Msrah was pretty sure she was one of the recent arrivals. He had a good grasp of the younger members of the pride, those his age, and the parents of young cubs that he took care of. She didn't fall in any of those categories. He had seen her come in with some food and that was a decent enough starting point for a conversation. And if they started talking he could learn more about her and where she came from. Msrah had never seen any other places than the desert, and he wondered what other places could be like. He was not curious enough to contemplate leaving, but still curious.
"You a huntress," he asked, unable to contain his curiosity. "My father is a hunter."

Zehoret blinked, pricking her ears. She was always quiet, hunting a rarily, and she shook her head.
"I mind cubs.... Mostly... Normally I'm not well enough for a hard hunt." She spoke softly, feeling a bit self concious.

"I'm a nanny too," Msrah said and beamed. A fellow nanny! He knew most of the other nannies by name at the very least, so he figured she must be new to that task and probably to the pride as well. Msrah was so excited about that fact that he nearly missed the part about her not being 'well enough'. He figured she meant that she wasn't very good at hunting, but that wasn't really something to be ashamed of. The Dawnwalkers had different tasks for a reason, and they thrived together since they all helped by doing what they were good at.
"I'm sure you'll get better," he said with a friendly smile, totally missing the point, "I was never a fantastic hunter, but I keep getting better."

Zehoret blushed slightly.
"Really? You think I'll become stronger?"
Nobody ever believed in her ability to be well before. She may not realize he missed her meaning, but she looked stunned, flattered. He was.... Different from most others. Kinder.

Her reaction to what he had said surprised him, and he wondered if there was something he was missing. Perhaps she was just shy and insecure; he saw that often enough in cubs.
"Sure! It's very hard to get worse at something by practicing," he said sagely, "But some of the cubs I watch seem determined to prove me wrong there. I swear they're trying to give me gray hairs."
When he first decided to become a nanny he had pictured something more heroic and fun. It was fun, most of the time, but it was also hard work. And periodically really, really annoying. It was nice to talk about it among adults that could relate to the experience.

....Yup. He missed it, but she beamed, smiling.
"I can help myself by not being o scared of what makes me sick maybe? And by keeping at what I enjoy when I do." She kept smiling.
"You... Your the first one to ever believe in me that I could be strong..."

The lioness had a really nice smile and she seemed to be genuinely happy to talk to him. He decided not to ask about the 'sick' part for now. He realised he hadn't even introduced himself yet.
"I'm Msrah, by the way," he said, bowing his head in greeting, "I don't believe we've been introduced yet.""You... Your the first one to ever believe in me that I could be strong...""I think everyone can be strong," Msrah said, suddenly serious, "You just need to find your strenght. Some are strong in mind, some are strong in body, and working together as a family or pride makes us all stronger."

"My name is Zehoret." She smiled shyly. Strong in mind? She sighed. "I don't know how strong I can be or where, honestly." But she could try? And try hard.

"Well," Msrah said and mirrored her smile, "You can be strong here, as part of the pride. One grain of sand is nothing, but look at what happens if you combine a ton of them in a sandstorm. They could skin a lion like it's nobody's business."
Um... Maybe not the best metaphor, but at least he meant well.

"That's true." Zehoret mused thoughtfully, humming a bit.
"I don't know what I'm good at though."

"Oh, that was not the hardest part for me," Msrah said, "I knew what I was good at before I knew what I really wanted to do. In the end I had to follow my heart."
He remembered how sure he had been that he'd become a priest when he grew up. He knew when he first thought about becoming a nanny instead, but it had been a long process to decide to follow through with it.
"You know what," he said and leaned in closer, lowering his voice, "The cubs aren't interested in what I'm good at. But they are immensely amused when I mess something up. Try tripping or dropping something or singing a few words wrong in a hymn and they crack up. Go figure..."

"Cubs enjoy love and attention." Zehoret smiled, purring. "It's good for them too, helps them grow."
She sighed, closing her eyes. Love, familial love.... What was it again?

"Do you enjoy the cub watching so far?" he asked, happy to have found a new nanny friend. "I have to introduce you to my buddy Tay if you haven't met her already, she's also a nanny. Hey! We could meet up tonight when it's a bit cooler if you want to. We could get together and talk about the kiddos. There are always some that like trouble a bit too much... "
He should know... Msrah had been a cub with a talent for trouble. Not on purpose, most of the time, but when you didn't always think before you acted, and when you had tons of siblings and friends to cheer you on. Well... Things happened.
