Most would think that after Sozin's last defeat (and it was a rather pitiful defeat at that, now that he thought back on the duel), that he would slink away and not re-attempt to join...but the challenge was too great. The fact he did not get in on the first try meant that there were worthy opponents in the pride, and that was just...perfect. He had been looking for a place to hone his skills and it seemed that this pride was the perfect place for him. He had lost, yes, but that only proved he could do so much better, he just needed to join this and learn their skills.
He'd be running the place in a week, after he'd joined, tops. He smirked and waited for his duel partner to appear.

Kalama took her time for arriving at this duel, because the last time she had dueled a joining hopeful it had been rather disappointing. And also, she wanted to arrive more slowly so she wouldn't be jumped as soon as she stepped in the area, because last time there hadn't even been time for a proper introduction. She had shown up and a lion had come flying at her! Not exactly something that upset her, but it had definitely been... unexpected.
So once again she was arriving after her opponent, who was waiting for her. This time a lion who even looked a bit more firekin than the last one, thanks to all the red on his coat. Kalama thought he looked like he might do better, and honestly hoped for that.
"Alright, then." Sozin, was that his name? "I'm here. go ahead."

Sozin was mildly surprised at his female opponent. He had no trouble fighting females, he had done it before and he usually won against them, but he had simply assumed that he would get another male opponent, like his previous challenge.
No matter, he thought, with a smirk. He would fight a female easily, and if she was any measure of the other female in the pride, he would enjoy being a part of their lands. She was very attractive, and from her form, a skilled fighter as well.
"Ladies first," he said, circling defensively with a smirk, eyes locked on her form. She was pretty, but he didn't intend to let his guard down completely around her.

Well, at least he was funny. Kalama smirked and approached, at first slowly, happy to just let the other male get a good look at the lady who was about to give him a beating. "Alright, then." She smiled, as she got a little bit closer.
"Don't mind if I do." And with that, she decided to start by a fairly simple leap in his direction, and a paw swinging towards his face. Let's start with a classic slap, shall we?

A slap.
Really?
Sozin was disappointed. It was such a boring move, and while she had strength behind it, he stepped back and shook off the pain with relative ease. "And here I thought you would be a worthy opponent. A slap?" He chuckled, unable to stop his smirk.
He continued to circle her, making no move to attack just yet. "Try harder next time."

"Hmm." Kalama slinked away a couple steps, then sat down on the floor. "I didn't want to scare you off. You don't want to see me try harder." Though, if he made comments like that all the way throughout the fight she would be happy to give it her best. and make it hurt, too. She shrugged.
"Besides, it's not like you're doing much better yet, are you?" She really hoped this lion was going to try a bit harder himself. It shouldn't end up just another fight were she did all the 'hard' work.

Sozin shot her a look when she sat down. Really? She was sitting, during a duel? "Who said I'd be scared off?" Sozin chuckled. "I have seen far worse things in my life than anything you could do to me." He smirked, taunting her a little, but enjoying himself. He wasn't so much focused on the duel at this point.
"I wouldn't want to scare you off," he responded back promptly, using her own words against her, before falling into a defensive position, his smirk only growing across his face.
People were always so much more fun when they were angry...

Well, okay. Kalama was done playing with this guy. "Never." She responded with a smile at his repeated words, and in a few seconds, she went from seated to airborne. Sozin wasn't exactly in a good position to be toppled over, since, due to his defensive position, he was already rather close to the ground.
But that just meant she had an opening to take him all the way to the ground, and she aimed to land with her hind paws on his shoulders (to keep her underside clear of his front paws), claws out for a fuller effect then a simple stomp. He was playing with her, Kalama could play with him.

The whole point of taunting her had been to get her to react, unfortunately, Sozin hadn't expected her to react so quickly and in that way. Her tackle had caught him unaware, and while he managed to snarl, he did not manage to dodge it. Her weight pressed him to the ground roughly and he rolled, swinging his paws out in hopes of clipping the female, but he felt only air when he attacked.
Damn it! He had underestimated her, and now he was vulnerable on the ground. That was simply unacceptable. He would have to be more cautious with his taunts, clearly these lions were prone to fast responses, not the sluggish emotional attacks like rouges often were. He rolled again, to regain his footing, hopefully before her next attack.

Kalama was quicker, though. As Sozin got to his paws, she was already standing beside him once more. She let him up, sure, but the firekin wouldn't make it easy for him. Just as he raised his head again, she lowered a paw back down right on top of it, as if he were some floppy little toy that bobbed up and down.
She was a little more careless now, though, and didn't bother to try to get out of range after this attack, and perhaps now it was her turn to underestimate him.

Sozin growled when he felt her pressed back down on him, preventing him from rising properly. Oh, so she was playing that game, was she? She hadn't moved away though, and Sozin grinned, swiping out his paw to catch her legs, hopefully knocking her to the ground also. He flung his body weight to the side, towards her, in hopes of helping to knock her to the sand. He wasn't a huge lion, more lithe muscle than heavy bulk, but he was strong none the less, and heavy - just not quite as heavy as a firekin.
He was almost enjoying himself, even if it wasn't going quite as well as he'd hoped. He could still enjoy wrestling with an attractive female, even if he was furious at himself for not beating her quickly.

Okay, even Kalama could admit that was stupid, and she kind of had it coming for her. She did, indeed, topple over to the ground, and almost instinctively shot out a paw to strike at the lion who had caused this, but found only air. She growled, slightly irritated, as she rolled back up to her feet.
But once she was up, she had a smile on the face. "You should have started that way." Because, despite the crummy end, Kalama had still won. "Because you'll still have to try again if you want to join us." She shrugged casually then. He had thought fast on that last bit, she could give him that. It was a shame he seemed like a slow starter.
Perhaps there was hope for him yet, though. "Good luck on your next duel." She said, and almost managed to sound kind of sincere. Well, not really, it came out teasing. But that was still better than she had wished her last opponent.
Without offering a real goodbye, the lioness turned, flicked Sozin with her tail, and left.
Results!
Sozin: 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 3 = 10 Kalama: 3 + 2 + 3 + 3 + 1 = 12
Conclusion -> Kalama wins.
