As the days continue on, the water crisis seems far from letting up.
But there's an old saying about bad things following one another...
[Seems legit.]
Quote: They'd been walking for days.
Although he'd lead them this far, Miah never pretended to know much about the Southlands. He knew more than he let on, obviously, but in truth it was as much his first time in these lands as any of them. It hadn't even occurred to him that the small group of Hongshan had already done something very few lions had ever accomplished: they'd entered into the Motoujamii from the north, through the mountain ridge affectionately known as the Spine. It hadn't been an easy trip, and they'd lost two of their company. Hadn't even buried them. Just kept moving.
Fear was a good motivator, and Miah was finding out that with the right amount of it, one could do anything. Even get themselves an audience with the great firekin.
At least, so it seemed. They were following behind one of the pride's guards- a black lion named Hraga, who had the misfortune of being stationed in the pride's most loneliest of guard posts. Clearly outnumbered and uncertain of the group's intentions, the young male had lead them back to the heart of the pride. A trip that had taken them more then a handful of days.
Firekin had strength in their numbers.
While Miah was uncertain, the meeting with the guard had sparked hope in the group. Rumor had spread that other Hongshan had fled from the Nergui holdings and into these lands. In fact, there was even rumor that this pride was offering all Hongshan sanctuary.
If it was true, that is.
Hongshan were not easy to trust, and Miah wasn't sure he possessed the correct organ to display the emotion. But he was sure if he had, this wouldn't have the occasion he'd choose to express it. "You seem confident that other Hongshan have made it this far," he said, his voice smooth. Miah might not have been a large lion, but he had the kind of voice that was hard not to listen to. Almost everything he said seemed both casual, and polite.
Hraga smiled, but it was taunt. "Sure! They live in the Red Quarter."
The guard was nervous, and Miah hadn't quite figured out why just yet. Surely to operate a guard post at the entrance of the mountains, the firekin were expecting the possibility of travelers. Had something happened to weaken their forces? The monstrous looking lion swiveled his ears.
It was but one of many questions that were stirring in his mind.

Hey bro, and welcome to another firekin event!
Its been several months since the Hongshan joined the pride, and the colorful band of refugees has all but been adopted into the Motoujamii at large. Although they still are steadfast with their warnings about enemies to the north- most of the prides attention has been focused squarely upon the current water crisis.
Now, a group of eight new refugees approaches from the impassable mountain ridge... and to make matters tricky, No and Kidondo have been called out to settle a dispute at the Southern guard post.
The refugees are former captives of the Nergui. Unable to escape when Nawvlee's group did, they remained prisoners under the empire. That is, until, a stranger named Miah rescued them...
So what does it all meaaan?!
Well, it means that this event will be based on the lions of the pride managing a crisis without mom and dad lingering over their shoulders! This is the chance for characters who want leadership roles to start acting like leaders.
Do you think you can manage the situation? I sure hope so! We're not going to make it easy on you.
The new Hongshan group consists of the following:
- Isifo: Isifo is your typical Hongshan. He's a strong, brute fighter who uses his muscle mass to win fights. He's confident, and though friendly around fellow Hongshan, his poor understanding of common tongue may make him appear quiet. His one weakness is the ladies. While he isn't nervous around them, he has a hard time assuming a female lioness is in the wrong. He'll be the first to defend them regardless of the evidence. - Ukuba: Ukuba is very intelligent, and although he values physical strength like the rest of the Hongshan, he in particular values intelligence just as highly. As a result, he's often seen as calculating. He's particularly protective of his brother, Isifo. - Tswana: When the Nergui invaded, Tswana stayed behind to try and rescue her sister's two cubs. Unfortunately, she was captured and the children murdered. She made several escape attempts during her time with the Nergui, but was always kept alive. - Thabiti'lengo: Once a strong lion who tried to escape with Nawvlee, but unfortunately caught by the Nergui. Beaten and broken, Thabiti's strength faded slowly but his focus to keep his kinsman safe was always strong. After the escape, he continues to not entirely trust Miah's motives. - Sjari [NPC] : Sjari lost his twin brother during the initial fight. Ever since the experience, he's spoken very little. The Nergui were particularly harsh on him, but no one could figure out why. - Zheva [NPC]: An older lioness who served as one of the pride's medics. When the Nergui took over the pride, she was forced to treat the enemy's wounds. - Miah: A mysterious lion who assisted in the Hongshan's escape. Although he was not apart of the pride, the group has looked to him as a leader. Through his cunning, they've been able to escape the Nergui lands. Quote: Rules:
@@@@ 1. Only accepted firekin members and Hongshan may post in this RP. However, newbies may make non-SOA NPC animals, such as lizards, mice, or other desert creatures to witness. @@@@2. If you own a leadership character already, you are welcome to try and intervene and control the situation. The only characters officially not around are No and Kidondo. @@@@3. That said, while this RP is about a situation unfolding, try not to godmode. This doesn't mean you can't start scuffles, but preferably PM the person you intend to this to beforehand to get their ok. @@@@4. There may be some random dice rolling events. In the case of these, they'll come with their own dice game.
But what about prizes!
During the event, we'll be giving out two lovely firekin ladies rehomed to us by Fayth. <33 Be sure to thank her! The exact game will occur in thread, with its own set of rules.
The other will be a raffle at the end, with each post in the thread a ticket towards winning her! Quote: Raffle List:

Quote: Veru wasn't exactly what one might call a sentry, but he had a habit of being around in time to see peculiar things. A wise fellow might have suggested this was simply how his seer traits expressed itself: a kind of forewarning. Anyone who knew him, however, would say this was giving him too much credit. Veru could be something of a vortex for bad luck, and odd things followed suit.
But on the plus side, he was never particularly surprised at anything.
So when the rather large group of individuals appeared in the distance, he held off the gut reaction to sound the alarm. He wasn't an alarmist by nature anyways, but he did get the sense that something was amiss. Guard patrols had been thinning with the water supplies running low, and such a large group coming from the north seemed more peculiar than usual. "And where are you all going?" he mused to himself, leaning forward on the rock face he had been situated on. He was fairly far up, and he doubted he'd been seen by them. Perhaps he could wait around until they got a bit closer...
Unfortunately, he wasn't alone. A fact that Veru remembered about two seconds too late.
"Hey, keep it-" Veru said in a sharp whisper, looming down the pile of rocks towards where the other fellow was.
Tarsa, however, had other ideas. Once his eyes set firmly upon the group of intruders, he jumped to the obvious conclusion that this was something that needed the majority of the pride's attention. "INTRUDERS." He barked, his large body giving his voice a surprising amount of power. "Alert the guards, we have intruders!"
Veru sighed.

The dry desert air seemed even more brutal with each passing day. Not one drop of rain, or even a stray hint of moisture, had made itself known upon the pridelands. The sky was vacant of even clouds and allowed the sun's rays to relentlessly beat down upon the hot desert sands and it's occupants. As much as Kinja adored the heat of the desert, she was not accustom to the restraints put upon the water holes. Yes, she understood why it was done, but it certainly was not the most comfortable decision that had to be made. She herself would have been forced to make the same decision if such a drought had plagued the lands during her own reign.
Some though were beginning to panic with the dwindling water, and it showed.
Having a need to escape the heat of the day, but not wanting to seclude herself in her den, Kinja had taken up a shadowed portion of the main den area. The rock against her back provided some relief as the sun had yet managed to heat it up entirely before she took refuge against it. The old lioness, sprawled out in her tiny patch of shade and watched as the light of the day slowly crept up on her. Soon she'd be forced to her den to find any reprieve.
"INTRUDERS."
The voice boomed through the dens and Kinja instinctively rose up from her spot. Sand fell from her hide as she moved from her resting spot to the general area that the voice had come from. There she found Veru and Tarsa and Tarsa was doing his best to make sure every lion within the pride knew something was amiss.
Ears flicked and old eyes strained as Kinja scanned the wavering distant horizon for the intruders and was completely taken by surprise at the fairly large group that approached then. "There's no possible way that the group made it past the sentries without being noticed.." She turned to the two lions. "Don't do anything rash. We don't need to start a war when we aren't sure what is going on. Just be prepared."

Zii moto had been off on a walk with her grown daughter Ute before she went off on her guard duties. They were sitting side by side, quietly talking about some thing in a hushed voice.
Since Zii's accident out in the sandy terrain; her hip had healed over time and was causing her to limp something horrid. And her damp mood seemed to have lifted since the accident. Word was her ability with children was very good; even considering that she had only one cub herself. They started to chuckle quietly at some joke; Ute's eyes squeezing shut in the joke.
Even despite the dry air and the water shortage.
When the shout rang out; Ute's head lifted quickly and she stood from her mothers side; locating the shout and spotted the two who had 'spotted' the strangers approaching. Zii sat back, watching her daughter leave quickly and step up beside Veru and Tarsa. "Intruders?!" She questioned; spotting them in the distance. More intruders... more to take water away. She took a few steps forward and lowered her head; her eyes narrowed. If anything was giong to go down; she wasn't gonna waste time. Especially with her maimed mother not far away. "Preparation in process." She said quietly.

She arrived pretty quickly, because the call was very enticing. INTRUDERS. How could that not get her attention? Kalama had been searching for some shade to rest after a training session, but was quite content to find a distraction instead.
Seeing Tarsa and Veru first was a little disappointing, because she had, in some ways, been hoping for an immediate encounter with these intruders. In fact, she had been hoping this would be what the Hongshan had warned against, the Nergui coming to attack them, because she wanted the fight. She wanted to push the invaders back and made them fear the Motoujamii, just the way they should be feared.
As she got closer, to the pair, she noticed two things. First, it was no longer a pair. Kinja had joined them, and another. The old lioness was curious to Kalama, almost uniquely because of her age. The other one was a younger looking lioness, but Kalama didn't particularly care for her, besides recognizing her as a fellow pride member. The second thing she noticed, finally, was the group of intruders that was causing this whole ruckus in the first place. And then she was disappointed, because there was no way this could be the Nergui, too few of them.
Still, she joined her pride mates, without really bothering to say anything, perhaps make some sort of sound that could have been a greeting, then standing and keeping her eyes on the group. She'd arrived in time to hear Kinja's words, and figured it was, indeed, best if she didn't run out there and charge at the group.
--
She could hear the call too, though much fainter. Just loud enough to make out the word. And that made Tswana nervous, because being labeled an intruder could hardly be a good thing.
She was tired, exhausted, just overall miserable, and the lioness really did not want a fight. But it could happen, so she slowed her pace to fall back with Zheva. The white female was much older, and Tswana honestly wondered how she had even survived for this long. But she fully intended to ensure that the medic survived for even longer, just in case the firekin got a bit too aggressive, or defensive.
She just hoped that Hraga could calm them down.

Roho was some way off when Tarsa's shout of 'intruders' rang loose and for a long moment she froze in step, her heart thudding painfully against the bars of her rib cage. Her first thoughts, of course, were of Nergui. Flashing fangs and claws in the dark. Screams of terror. Running. Fighting. Chaos. The scent of blood heavy in the air, a pain in her chest that made it difficult to breath. Panicked searching for loved ones, stumbling over corpses. Screaming names over and over again. Tumbling to the ground. Fighting for life even when it seemed impossible. The memories had always been vivid and strong but now they seemed to beat all the louder.
Blood rushed through her ears, rendering them useless and, when she stirred from these images her first thought was to run.
Later she would hate herself for it. She was no coward. She was a warrior and she had already survived one battle with the monsters. The Firekin had been expecting this. They were ready. She was ready. But the fear crept up into her limbs and froze her in place and if it was not for that, she was not at all sure she would not have fled. It took her a moment to master herself again, forcing back the terror so that she could move onwards. She summoned back her strength and her calm and, drawing in a deep, slow breath, she forced herself to move towards possible danger. She'd sooner die than be seen as a coward.
By the time Roho arrived on the scene, there were already a number of Firekin gathering, some she knew, others that she didn't. Even still, she was glad to see such quick reactions from the red-pelted people and the sight strengthened her resolve.
She forced herself into a loping pace to catch up, lifting her voice and hoping that it came out firm and strong. Thankfully, it did: "Can we see them? What do they look like?" The terrain and other lions, annoyingly, masked her view and she slowed as she drew nearer.

The Spine's terrain had been unforgiving, the pads beneath his paws were cut and worn from the journey. Still, the dark lion's pain was hidden behind the blood red mask with amber eyes steady forward to safety. The male was far too stubborn to call for Zheva's medical help.
Like those he traveled with, he was a Hongshan through, a good size between the two brothers Isifo and Ukuba, but thinned to hardships from the Nergui.
Thabiti snarled at the wind-carried warning. Ears falling back, he took his attention to Miah. "Miah!...." he growled. Miah wasn't a Hongshan as far as he knew. He wasn't entirely sure he was not part of the Nergui to begin with. A slave trader? Countless possibilities have been going through his head about the lion and why he would even help them to begin with. Thabiti didn't say anything at first as escape was the priority.
But why?...
Tswana was concerned, Zheva was their elder by a few seasons, the boys could certainly fight. Sjari was still a hard book to read, and, admittingly, he was having a hard time hiding the burning pain of the heated sand upon his worn paws.
"You, Guard, this is your pride. What will they do?" The question was harsh as his statement to Miah. It was genuine concern for his fellow Hongshan.

As Ukuba walked, his eyes were constantly studying his surroundings, as well as examining those that he travelled with. Of all the things that his eyes fell upon, the one thing that they always ended up returning to was Miah.
Being the type that considered all possible reasons, scenarios and concequences before he commited any action, Ukuba knew that Miah must have had an ulterior motive for rescuing them. Having said that however, he had yet to provide any reason or motive at all, so the red and black lion was simply speculating for now. All that truely mattered was that he, his brother and the rest of the Hongshan were safe.
At least, they thought they were, until the cry of 'intruders' reached their ears. Ukuba frowned deeply, immediatly turning to his brother and then to the rest of the group. When Thabiti questioned the Firekin guard that had brought them to this point, the red and black lion attempted to count how many figures were visible on the horizon. There was at least five, with more seeming to arrive with every passing minute. If a fight broke out, he calculated their odds of survival as being very slim indeed.
"Perhaps it would be best for us to stop moving and allow for our escort to proceed and explain our situation. We do not want to be seen as the aggressors."
~~~~ Teketeza had been very discontent with the hand that his Pride had been dealt recently. Despite the fact that they were struggling to get by as they were, they had found themselves bestowing charity on to a bunch of what he considered to be weaklings who were not strong enough to look after themselves. It sickened him, and with the lack of water and blistering heat, the whole thing had just left him in a really horrific mood.
When the alarm was raised over the approach of intruders, the large grey lion couldn't help but grin. Although he wasn't plagued with bloodlust, he was the type who grew bored with the day to day running of the Firekin, and this might be an opportunity for him to let out some of his frustration and aggression.
When he arrived at the spot where his fellow Firekin had gathered, he stared intently at the approaching group. "This had better not be a false alarm." He hissed, a low growl radiating in his throat.
The drought had persisted. And while others grew more irate, Miale kept her temper in a chokehold. She was a Tracker. With the way things were, she couldn't afford to lose her temper. She'd finished sparring with her uncle, Kich, when both heard the cry go up. While most might have frozen, both surged toward the source. Neither was the sort to waste any time. As they drew closer, they passed Zii'moto. Miale nodded to her uncle, the male stopping to stand by his mate while Miale continued on. If Kich was needed, he'd know soon. But he wasn't going to leave Zii without aid if there really were intruders.
Miale slowed as she came to the growing group of her pridemates...and one Hongshan. She nodded to Roho, then looked in the direction of the intruders. Hmmm...She tried sniffing the air, in case the wind was blowing their way. How strange they'd gotten so close. Perhaps one of their own was with them? And they were coming in from the north...More Hongshan, hopefully. And not of those that had driven the Hongshan to their lands...
Ukuba, as calculating as ever, gave a good option. If they stopped moving now, it would keep the distance between the groups. Should something go wrong, at least then they'd have some time to pull something together. Thabiti was not one who would vote for 'escaping', but the well-being of the others came first. Turning his attention from Hraga to Ukuba, he also scouted the looming members of this pride on the horizon. The pain blurred his vision though he could make out a decent number, possibly matching their group as it stands. Not too long after that, another blur joined them.
"I, for one, am not climbing back up that mountain, Ukuba. Though, if they intend to attack us without reason..." the black male gave a rough exhale. "Let us hope it doesn't come to that."
"Hraga, what is this place's protocol should an 'intruder' alarm be set off?"
Doesn't the pride have bands of their own that roam their lands? Would it not be just as likely that one of their own bands could be mistaken as intruders?... Well, that would be a really poor pride if that was the case.
Xennek squinted up into the sun. A good day for a duel. Still the lion’s direction immediately turned away from the familiar dueling area as the booming sound of ‘Intruders!’ filled the air. Gaze sharply turning the lion showed no hesitation as he started running across the sands. Looking out of the corner of his gaze the lion cursed softly under his breath. Where was Sekayi? “Leave it to the cub to not be around when we get company.” Still he slowed as the group of lions came into view. Already there was a group of firekin he recognized. As he got close enough to his fellow pride members the lion looked ahead to the group in the distance.
Should he brace himself for a fight? But after a moment he instead chuckled lightly, “I think if they were attacking us then they missed out on the part where they are supposed to sneak into our lands or at least come forward with an army not a small band.” His gaze gleamed lightly as he looked over the group as they got closer, “I don’t think we should get too worked up.” The lion’s voice was steady and assured as he looked around the group. “Let’s see what they want here. Perhaps they are lost or needing some help…” He paused thoughtful. Could it be another group of refugees from the mysterious enemies? He frowned and looked around. Where was a Hongshan? Would they be able to tell if this group was a part of the enemy or not? After all they were captives for a time. “Where’s a Hongshan? Shouldn’t they know the enemy better than us?” Because a sudden realization of potential danger had come to him. What if this was a distraction? “And we need to know about the other borders. We need them protected despite this situation.” He called out worry actually crossing his features for a brief second, “Is this the only band of intruders around?”
Suditi’s heart dropped as she heard the alarm. Could this be? A brief moment of hesitation crossed her features before the lioness shook her head. No! Not this time. Making her way towards the group the lioness was already searching faces to seek out any familiar pelt. There. Finding Roho, Suditi pressed through, “I can’t see them.” She commented to her friend, her amber gaze darkening. But what Xennek said made sense. Could it be a trap? But she too was in the dark when it came to the enemy. She had been the one to miss being captured, to miss the battle. “Roho. We need to see this group! You should know right if it’s the enemy’s forces or not?”
The call of 'intruders' set the fur bristling along Nuria's spine, bringing her to her feet immediately. She has been wary of these Hongshan, but warier still of the warnings they bore--and her mind leaps first to the thought that now that the Firekin were deep in the grips of the drought, the Nergui had invaded. Her powerful body leapt into action, surging ahead at a run until she joined her gathering pridemates. A low growl of tension rumbled from her chest as she came to a halt. If these strangers proved to be enemies, they would find even a thirsty Firekin to be a formidable enemy. Fire in the heart, and in the blood, was not so easily quenched.
Ute was watching them approach; her eyes narrowing to stare at them. She was waiting for some more guards to arrive and was relieved to have her father there with her mother at least; but the crowd was growing and she didn't like it. So she looked behind her and licked her parched lips. "I am approaching. Who will go with me?" She said quietly, knowing that a small group to go meet them would be more appropriate than the whole group going there or to have the strangers come to them. She then turned back and began to walk calmly towards the group.
"State your business!" She said simply, her voice was not showing any ill intent and neither did her posture; not yet anyway. She lifted herself proud and high and walked at a normal pace; not wanting to rush this. Any of this.
...
Zii felt a safe presence beside her as her mate was at her side. She couldn't see the strangers very well and didn't want to try to stand up higher and strain her hip. "What is it love? Can you see?" She asked Kich, looking to him for an answer; as her daughter spoke and began to approach the strangers. She felt a bit of pride; happy that her daughter as taking the initiative with this. These strangers. They could attack them and Zii had taught Ute that not letting them closer to the pride before they did was better than having them explode into fighting among the weak...
"They..." Hraga started, as though he wasn't entirely sure what to say. After Ukuba spoke, he seemed to find some clarity. "Yes, that's it. Its better we not go too much closer. Er, you go too much closer...I mean."
Miah shifted an ear. He didn't doubt that guards had some sort of contingency plan in case of capture, and from the right angle it certainly could have looked like the group had the young male in their grasp. Not exactly the best position to be in when they intended to come under a white banner. It seemed the other Hongshan had done well to nurture paranoia in their new allies. Or the firekin were just naturally expecting a crisis.
His claws pulsed in the sand once, appraising the situation. He hadn't exactly been expecting a welcoming party, but it might not be the wisest thing to let go of their young guard friend so quickly. "I think its better you stay with us," the strange lion said. "Your friends seem quite willing to attack. They'll send someone to us."
Hraga furrowed his brow. "Uh, I'm pretty sure they'll just attack."
---
Veru hopped down from the rock he was standing upon, falling into stride with Xennek as he passed by. He seemed to be in agreement with the other's estimation. "It's a small force, hardly anything to get your tails in a twist over. No one sends under ten as an assault team."
Tarsa, however, was less than impressed by the talkers. He might have been a loud mouth, but he wasn't completely foolish either: "Yeah, but when you got ten on each side thats not exactly a small force," he snapped his head around, looking at the lions flooding in from various corners of the pride. "Some one better alert the other guards! We don't know if there's some kinda larger force growing anywhere else. This is the north border: surely they didn't come from over the mountain."
Veru crinkled his nose. The group was still small in the distance, but large enough to begin to make out shapes. It still seemed like a rather small force to him, even for a distraction. "They've stopped moving. Looks like we're going to have to make a decision."
He turned back towards the group: but it seemed several were already making their choices. Ute was walking forward towards the group- and the white mate shifted his jaw in thought. "Well, I guess that answers that then."
