He was stars after midnight, or so his name depicted. Tahni'kxamtxomaw looked to the night sky, speckled with stars in the oncoming darkness of the deep night sky, and smiled. Bright eyes peered upwards as he stayed silen, close to home, where he was meant to stay, but in silence, for now. Tahni learned to not wander far from request, to do as told, but he spoke not so often. He saved his voice, that energy, for learning. Knowing the true language the language of his home, his people, and for that he was glad.
However, learning in silence, solitude sometimes, was monotonous, though he enjoyed it, he wished for company as well.
Tahni took in a breath, tasting the night air and closed his eyes and listening, he wanted to see someone.hoping

Clermelli-Pie winced as her weight shifted wrong on her one paw. Of all the things to happen while she was out on a hunt today, she managed to step on an uneven stone and roll her ankle. She pulled herself up and wiggled the ankle to make sure it was still okay and kept going. It was an interesting day. If it had not been for her familiar, Pikelis going with her, Clerm would not have gone out at all today. But the nice part of having a familiar was that when one wished to hunt, they could do so with someone else to watch their fur.
Had the injury been serious, Pikelis' wings could have carried her to help to bring for Clermelli-Pie. As it was, Clerm was tempted to tie the bird's beak closed for making fun of her. Though, in all fairness, Clerm deserved it for not watching where she was walking. That only made it marginally less annoying to be told how clumsy she was by the bright feathered bird on her back. "You know, I could have made you fly yourself home instead of letting you ride up there. Give a lioness a break, would you?"
Pikelis chortled at her partner. The lioness had done something stupid that could have easily been avoided, and the bird was going to make sure she did not forget it. Pikelis had no qualms about going hunting with Clermelli-Pie. The lioness was quite talented at hunting and blood did not bother the bird any, but things like what happened today just made the bird all the more convinced her lioness felt she had something to prove. "You are lucky you did not break your like, so I will not give you a break, you clutz."

Tahni stayed quiet as he heard voices. His ears flicking in the direction from which he thought the sound came. Bright eyes blinked as he rose to his paws, toes stretching and feeling the ground and he took a step, hesitated, then took another. His dark fur atop his head fell into the view of his bright eyes as he took several more steps, crawling into some of the underbrush while peering out. He opened his mouth, tasting the air and let himself become quiet as that around him.
Then, he saw a speckle of color.
He quirked a brow at the bright green spot, and watched it for a moment, and it seemed to turn over pale yellow.
Interesting.
And another, closeby.
Unfamiliar.
Tahni gulped, laying in wait, trying to gain assurance before making himself known.

Clerm limped along and wondered what her adopted brothers would think of this. Kaym and Toruk were a bit protective. She had a feeling Toruk would find the irony amusing that she had done something she shouldn't and been punished again. Kaym would likely point out that she should have learned the first time not to go hunting on her own. Maybe she could pass it off as a walk? Not likely, she had been gone too long for them to buy that.
Her hunting partner was likely to snicker at her or lecture her on not going out alone. They had become a team because of her brother saving Clerm from an accident of hunting alone that could have been horrible. The other lioness was likely to find only a little humor in the situation before lectures ensued. Clerm sighed. It was going to be a long day she was sure. She paused as something caught her nose that was out of place. She could not quite tell what it was with all the other smells in this area, though.
Pikelis rode on her lioness' back. It was easier to keep an eye on her from here, rather than flying over head. The bird most certainly could not have kept up if she had to hop along on the ground, so this worked well. "What are your 'brothers' going to say? It was smart to take me along, yes, but they are not going to be happy you did not go hunting with an actual partner, Clermelli-Pie. Oh, I can hear the lectures now. I wonder which will be hardest on you."

He watched with an inquisitive and curious stare from the undergrowth. His bdoy wriggled in anticipation, his pelt, seemingly starred like the night sky and striped like that of his lineage was a great contrast against that of the scene around him.
As the tiny thing, the bird, spoke to the female, Elli, Tahni decided on, he scrunched his nose at the words he heard.
He did not know so much still, but, why would her family be so harsh?
"None," he said aloud to teh pair, but in a soft voice, still hidden, as far as Tahni was concerned, no lecture should be harsh upon the female before his eyes.

Clermelli-Pie sighed and looked at the bird. "Pikelis, you are a pain some days. I do not know whom will be hardest on me. Toruk is likely to be amused to some extent by the irony of what happened if he is not too distracted by his cubs to notice, Kaym is rather preoccupied with his den right now, and Zimo the whole pride's cubs to keep him occupied... I might end up getting more of a lecture from my own grown cubs in the end..." The lioness sighed and stretched. It was going to be an interesting day.
She tilted her head to the side, much like Toruk himself did when listening, and tried to locate the voice when it spoke out. It sounded young, perhaps one of the cubs? Which one she could not place, but then she had not been around many of the new cubs much. Too much moping on her part, was probably to blame for that. Would it be one of Toruk's? Maybe. It would help to be able to see the owner of the young voice. "You sound very sure of that, young one. May I ask whom it is that is so sure I will be saved lectures?"
Pikelis chuckled at the blue striped lioness. The lioness would go from one downtrodden practical outlook to another as her mind processed everything. She was sure that Clermelli-Pie had not always been so prone to look at the negative that was coming even if she was aware it was. The voice took the bird off-guard as much as her companion. She half hid herself behind the lioness' head in case of trouble. It certainly sounded like another lion, but that did not mean that the bird was going to trust that it wasn't someone like Kersey, the king's brother.

As the small bird hid, Tahni stiffled a laugh in his small throat. He wriggled and rubbed his paws together and took a breath before stepping out from his hiding place.
She was quite..larger, in size than himself...than he thought.
He gulped.
"T-t.." he stuttered, and took a breath again, "Tahni'kxamtxomaw...Tahni for short...who...are you?" he asked both the lioness, and the bird, whom he tried to peek at by leaning.

"I am Clermeilli-Pie. You are Toruk's son with Jubes, yes? That makes me your aunt." Okay so it was not by blood, but Toruk, and Jubes would tell him the same. As far as the old warrior was concerned Clerm was his sister and Clerm felt the same with him and with Kaym for that matter. She knew the cubs from her friends did not know her well yet. Mostly the fault of what she did. She was always out hunting, and rarely went to visit anyone these days. She needed to make sure to go and visit both her "brothers" and their cubs. Would not do for them to not know her as this poor boy. At least she knew the names even if she had not met the cubs officially.
With Pikelis making no move to come out on her own, Clerm decided some formal introductions were in order. Maybe that would get the bird out of hiding if for no other reason than she did not want to seem rude. "Tahni'kxamtxomax, the bird hiding behind me is Pikelis. Pikelis, come say hello to Tahni." The blue lioness looked over her shoulder expectantly. It took a few moments but Clerm was rewarded for her efforts with Pikelis coming back into sight and even flying down to land at the cub.
The yellow and green bird would have been happy to remain hidden with the strange cub about, but Clerm obviously knew the cub. For that reason alone when the introductions were made, the little bird came out and flew down to the ground in front of the cub. "Hello, Tahni. I am Pikelis... Clermeilli-Pie and I are friends." There were times that the bird really wondered if cubs were safe to be around or would think her a chew toy, but Pikelis kept her peace and trusted that if anything went wrong Clerm would pull her out of it.

When the bird came closer, Tahni crouched low to the ground, ears flickering, and then made a motion with one paw reaching out to touch the bird, but hesitated. He wanted to touch it, it could fly. Why couldn't he fly? If he could, he was sure he could hold a high rank, prove his parents proud, be of worth to the pride.
But no, he was so small, so small indeed.
He wanted adventure, and glory for his family, not necessarily for himself.
"I wish I could fly like you," he said with a nod, and withdrew his paw, though he wanted to poke. But the bird also seemed frightened. "You are, aunt?" he asked, looking up. She was so big.
He so small.
"I wish I grow faster," he said frowning.

Clermeilli-Pie laughed kindly at the cubs sincere wish to grow faster. It was amusing to a lioness like herself that was smaller than all the old blood and looked like them regardless. "You will grow soon enough, young one, trust me. I am your aunt, yes. Aunt Clerm." She put her head down to touch the cub's nose. "A lion with wings... You wish to be like Eywa? I don't know, I think flying would be a little scary myself." Clerm crouched down so she wouldn't tower over the cub so much. It would put him more at ease, she figured.
Being a mother herself did at least give her some advantage in dealing with a cub. "You will grow soon enough, and you will be tall like your father. You will not be so unlucky as I to be short compared to the others." She winked at the cub and grinned. "What are you doing out here? Did something catch your interest in the forest? I could escort you out to see it if you like." She knew she shouldn't encourage this, but well... she took Sata out before. And being a huntress meant she knew the forest fairly well.
Pikelis looked at her lion partner and shook her head. This could get the lioness in trouble, couldn't it? Ah well, what did the bird know. "Lions are not meant to fly just as I am not meant to swim in the water. We all have our place, you will find yours without wings." The bird hoped she sounded encouraging. She really was knew to the whole speaking to little ones thing. She had no chicks of her own, and dealt with nearly no cubs or chicks in her life.

"I wish to fly, and touch them," he said looking up, pointing to the stars. "They are too far from us," perhaps Eywa, if he was kind to the world, might bring him a star to hold in his paws. He wondered if it would be cold or hot. "I want to be big now, want to be able to do more," Tahni said , slinking to the ground, tapping his paws together, "not much to do...want to explore, see everything everyone."
He tilted his head, blinked, "I wished to see the night, the stars, they see me and I them, they call to me sometimes, I think," or perhaps it was the forest. "I wish you could bring me to the stars," he said turning onto his back, looking to the speckled sky.
He looked to the bird, had an urge to poke again, see the wings, look at how they were. Perhaps he might grow them. "But we are meant to see...and I wish to see the stars, more than this," he said with a huff.
Cubs...their dreams so large.

Clermeilli-Pie looked up at the stars and smiled softly. This cub had some very big dreams. She wondered if he discussed such things with his parents or not. She was not sure if she would have known what to say if one of her cubs had said such things. It was a little easier when it was someone else's cub, or so it always seemed to her. The fact that her avian companion seemed to upset the cub was not a good thing. She would have to get back into the conversation quickly and see if she could smooth things over before the cub got truly upset with Pikelis, not that the bird had meant any harm or said anything wrong really.
"We cannot take you to the stars, but perhaps you can speak with Eywa about the stars? She is very wise and might have some answer for your desires that the rest of us cannot see." She might not really think of the goddess as much more than a winged lioness, but she did respect the goddess' wisdom and kindness. If anyone was going to have an answer to how to handle this situation, it would be the pride's goddess. Clerm certainly had no answers at this point and was sure that Pikelis was more at a loss than she.
The bird shook her head. "I cannot fly that high. I know no bird that can do so... I think Clerm is correct. This Eywa would know more than we... Perhaps we are meant to see, but I have always been told that up there are the spirits of those past... that stars are ancestors giving us light as they watch over us. I have always taken this as the reason that I cannot fly to them... but I know you lions are different here than what I was taught. You have different ways." The bird shrugged her wings. This was very much outside her expertise.
