|
A Tale of Water...
Water has long been known, as the source of life, without it is impossible to live. Hitoshirezu’bakufu has long held onto these beliefs and actually structured their beliefs after this thought.
It all started with the lioness Taiga, who believed she was a descendent of the water god, Tamu’dhihaka. Her reasoning was simple; she had a deep attachment to clear liquid, finding it hard to spend more than a day or two away from it in any form. She also harbored the blue she had heard him to be. She had no proof of that she was except for the reoccurring dreams she experienced.
In one dream she saw a lush jungle, with a large lake in the center and three waterfalls streaming into it. In another she saw a cave beneath one of the waterfalls and knew that it would become her home. In her final dream before finding the hidden lake, the path she saw was twisted and difficult to come through, she dreamt of meeting Tamu.
Taiga left her mother, who by this time was old, frail and unlikely to survive the journey, to seek out this place of her dreams. Along the way she came across a gray-blue male with a pale white face by the name of Kasui. He claimed that he too dreamt of a hidden lake and that he had dreamt of a blue lioness that he would find along the way.
Deciding that they had the same plan, ideals and love of water they journeyed together to that hidden lake.
Taiga and Kasui did discover that place of their dreams and made it their home, eventually creating a pride with other lions they found shared their love of water and could appreciate the beauty and bounty of the lands they named Hitoshirezu’bakufu.
However not too far into the beginning the plague struck the newly formed pride effectively killing Taiga and Kasui leaving the pride to their young daughter and her mate Tawaninai and Takurami.
Tawaninai held onto the beliefs of her mother and held the pride to a life of practically living in water, being one and treating the precious liquid as thought it was a part of them and without it, they would be lost.
Eventually a drought overcame the place they thought would never dry out. The waterfalls stopped falling and the once large lake was reduced to nothing more than a small pond. This took a heavy toll on the members and more effectively on the queen.
Without the water she wilted and died, leaving her young son, barely an adolescent, to rule in her stead.
Suijin was stubborn and refused to leave the lands to relocate to somewhere where they could survive and when he denied them, they abandoned him. Leaving him with a withered pond and a withered pride.
Feeling as though he was lost he went in search of his friends, only to find that with time they too turned on him. However with the news of a daughter seeking him, and the knowledge that the rains have returned, he has set about reviving his old pride and is willing to do anything, and to use anyone to accomplish this.

Information
General
Water is everything, it's the source of life, and without it we will wither away into nothing. In Hitoshirezu they have come to be 'one' with the water, they spend much of their day in the water. From the day they are born to the day they die water is a part of them, of who they are and what they do.
Religion
Those of Hitoshirezu hold gods of water in the highest regard, but more specifically gods of fresh water. Especially the god of water himself Tamu'dhihaka because without him, they would be nothing, along with the goddess of Rain.
As such, and to keep the rains falling and the water bountiful, they erect statues in their honor and praise, every two springs.
There are also two shrines built in their honor.
Color
As to the fact that they are of the water-loving kind they regard those with shades of blue and blue-green in the highest regard. However they do not necessarily look down upon those that are not blue, or of a blue decent, it is just easier for those with blue to ascend to higher ranks.
However Red has never been something they have smiled upon because they have been taught to believe that the bluer one is, or the closer to the color of water one is, the more at one they are with it.
Outsiders
Outsiders are not welcomed nor turned away, however they will immediately be brought before the emperor who will in that one meeting decide if they are allowed to remain in the lands or if they will be evicted.
Suijin-sama is very good at reading others, something he prides himself on, and can judge a book easily by it's cover.
Non-lions and Hybrids
Hitoshirezu does not frown upon non-lions or hybrids but they aren't accepted into their ranks with the exception of being a slave. They do take slaves and they are always non-lions. There is never an exception to that.
As such it is heavily frowned upon for a member to mate or breed with a non-lion and any resulting cubs can and will be slaves.
Mating and Offspring
The pride neither promotes adolescent breedings nor frowns upon them, however they do frown upon flings and breeding with outsiders. There are very few exceptions to that, such as the emperor as he is the only one allowed to have more than one mate.

Ranks
Emperor/Koutei -- He is the king of the pride, he who makes all of the rules and keeps the pride running, moving along, and in order. All members should hold him in the highest regard for he is a decendent of the water god.
Empress/Kitsaki -- She is the chosen mate of the Koutei, she has a say in how the pride is run, more particularly the females, but must always consult the council and the Koutei. Any children of hers are considered to be the next Emperor, only her children can inherit the throne.
Concubine -- The mistress of the Koutei. They are treated with respect but are otherwise just general members of the pride.
Crown Prince -- The Heir for the Koutei and Kitsaki.
Prince/ess -- The sons and daughters of the Koutei and the Kitsaki.
Lords and Ladies -- Those of high rankings, the elite. Many are relatives of either the Koutei or Kitsaki.
Consort -- The chosen mate of the heir, often found through arranged marriages.
Shaman/Miko -- Those that are in charge of the shrines as well as performing the rituals such as the birthing ritual and the marriage ceremony. Next to the Koutei, they are the closest to the gods.
Messenger/Tsukai -- The messengers of the pride, which includes delivering messages within the pride members and to other prides.
Guard/Keishu -- They are in charge of protecting the pride, which includes going on scouting missions, having rigorous training sessions etc.
Hunter/ress/Karyuudo -- The hunters of the pride, it is their job to provide the pride with food while also making sure that there is no over hunting. Default for all members.
Nanny/Kumori -- The cubsitters of the pride, they are in charge of watching over the young of the pride.
Kato[Tadpole] -- Adolecents who are sent on a coming of age quest, where they must catch a rare fish. After they bring their rare fish to the emperor he will allow them to either keep their name or change it.
Kinshou'Uo[Little Fish] -- The youth of the pride, from cubs to adolecents.
Slave -- The title given to all non-lion species within the pride, and those deemed unworthy for any other position. They're often sent to do menial labor and chores but aren't treated too cruely.
