The spotted, red lioness was bathing under the sunlight, letting it warm her belly as she rolled on the grass. It was a patch near her den. She had a very small place, though she was welcome within the castle mountain and could have a den there.

Something about having a little retreat was nice.

She was considered a Toka, though her brother, she had learned, was called Druid. Their mother was Queen Ygraine's dearest friend, besides her mate, and was also called a Toka. It was strange to Scatha, then, that one of their family wasn't and there was no real indication why.

She wasn't sure.

But at the moment she couldn't be fussed, lounging languidly and enjoying the sun on her tummy. She hummed and purred to herself, letting her fur soak it up and not minding the day slipping by. This was the life, she was pretty sure there was nothing better.

As the sun shone down on his dark brown pelt, Fio couldn't help but feel slightly at ease. Even though for the most part he was drowning in stress. He was supposed to be on the hunt right now; though not for food. He had been hired to find a special item for a very important client, and it had been stressed that he do so with haste. But as always, he wasn't one for deadlines nor would he ever be. He had simply snorted at the client's request and accepted the job. When it got done, it got done and it was as simple as that.

The warm sun's beams were bright today and it was so gorgeous outside, he wasn't going to waste in the slums of the markets searching endlessly for something that might not even be there. No, he was far more content to enjoy his day doing his own thing. Everything else could wait.

As he strolled along his usual route, he had a small inkling of an idea to take a bit of a detour. He was reluctant at first, but his feet chose to ignore his resistance. As he slipped through the grass, quiet as a mouse, something odd caught his eye. A red lioness, very much out of place among the lush green grass surrounding her. Debating whether it was a good idea to interrupt her peace of quiet, he realized it didn't really matter to him which he did. He could simply sit here, and wait for her to notice his scent - and that's exactly what he was going to do.

It took her a while of rolling and humming to herself, heavy sighs of contentment as well, before she took a whiff of his scent. Her eyes snapped open and she looked around in confusion. She saw the other lion though, and would have turned red if not for the red fur.

"Uhm. Have you been there long?" She asked, turning over and sitting up. She was dusty from the ground, and had some grass clinging to her fur. It stuck out on her, and she tried to pretend she was aware of it and didn't care.

But she did. She was mortified and embarrassed.

"Do you need something?"

She tried to sound grumpy, to cover for her being so frazzled and feeling so silly. Maybe if she could pretend to be intimidating she could chase him off and nurse her wounded pride on her own. She wasn't too keen on chasing him off, though, as she rather liked company when she could have it.

But she did not like looking like an idiot, which was how she felt.

As he sat there quietly, attempting to not disrupt her Fio found himself smiling. Though why exactly, he wasn't sure. It could have been that the female was actually quite pretty, or that he could see himself doing exactly what she was doing now. But none the less, he felt all the more ridiculous and strange when she finally caught onto his presence. Her he was, watching this random female roll around in the dirt with a giant grin on his face. Yeah, no that wasn't weird at all...

"Oh n-no, not long at all. I was just making my way through and I didn't want to disturb you by walking past." He smiled a rather charming smile, one he'd been told could break hearts. "I thought, leaving you to your ah - activities?" He paused, wondering whether he'd chosen the right word. "Mostly because you seemed to be enjoying them so much."

Her change in tone was a bit strange, she didn't really have a reason to be so short with him. "Well, that was unexpected!" He mumbled, stepping back a bit while still admiring her coat. "I hope your temper doesn't always match your coat!" He grimaced lightly, knowing his words would likely cause him more trouble.

She watched him, relaxing a bit, and smiled softly in return. Maybe he wasn't so bad: he wasn't making fun of her, and that won him points in her book. She was the capable one, of herself and her brother, and didn't like feeling like she was anything less than that.

But it was easy to put her off those thoughts, it seemed.

"Oh, no, you don't have to go. I thought you were... well. I don't mind you being there. Er. Here. I mean. I don't mind you... uhm. Hello."

She tried to relax a bit, feeling guilty now.

"I'm sorry. I just thought you were going to make fun of me, and I don't stand by being insulted. But you didn't and I was too fast with my defense... I'm sorry about that. If you want to go I understand, but there's plenty of sun to enjoy?"

She looked a little hopeful, offering her best apology and hoping he would take it and appreciate it for what it was. An olive branch, so to speak, to forget her embarrassment and snapping at him. She was already in his debt for that, and she'd have to make it up to him somehow.

"It's a really nice patch of grass."

Slightly relieved by her change of tone, the tension in Fio's shoulders relaxed a bit. His smile returned, though it wasn't the large obvious grin it had been before. It was far more natural than it had been before. "Hi." He mumbled awkwardly, noting the frazzled look the female seemed to have adopted. This was kind of awkward, though in his world there weren't many things that weren't. "Relax..." He smiled lightly, and chuckling a bit. "I can understand your reasoning, just calm down a bit. I'm not worth getting all bent out of shape over."

Cautiously taking a step forward at her offer, Fio dipped his head in appreciation. "I think i'd enjoy spending some time in the sun.. It is a lovely day after all." As he raised his head, he took a glance at her patch of grass. It was pretty large, and had been cleared easily by her silly romp in the grass. "Yes, from the looks of your display, it seems more than comfortable." A small chuckle escaped his maw once more. "Not that there's anything wrong with that, I can imagine myself doing a similar thing if I found the right spot. Much like the one you've found. I'm actually a little jealous of it."

"You aren't? I don't think so. Why would you say that?"

She frowned at him. Selling oneself short was a travesty to her: there was something of worth in everyone, wasn't there? from what she saw so far, he was a nice lion, with a good smile and a very nice pelt. She liked what she saw and heard so far. It wasn't like his voice was squeaky, or his fur patchy, or his muscles spindly.

Really, he seemed worth more than just her getting upset.

"Go ahead and try it out!" She said with a grin, glad to hear he didn't think she was silly for it. Now that she was sure he wasn't going to make her feel dumb about it, she was more than eager to share. There was nothing more fun than doing what one liked to do, save only doing it with friends.

Were they friends yet?

She didn't know, but she imagined it wouldn't be too hard, he was nice, and she was nice when she wasn't covering for her pride. Plus they both liked the sun.

Fio snorted slightly at her comment, though he really didn't know why. Maybe he thought it cute that she had so easily misunderstood his comment? Or it could be something more - though if it were, it was beyond his understanding. With a shrug he commented on her confusion. "I merely meant that it's a silly situation to get flustered over. I'm no one that you should be flustered by! Just - you know - your normal everyday lion." He smiled slightly, showing his toothy grin. He was telling the truth, though perhaps not by pride standards. By pride standards he was probably a little weird, what with accepting both prides as equals. But he wasn't one for pride politics, and unless she was curious he saw no reason to bring it up.

"It's a tempting offer..." His toothy grin grew wider, and his tail began to swish more wildly back and forth. It was obvious he was just a big kid at heart, though he wasn't proud to have it show. He'd been brought up from a young age, to be a man. Wagging your tail and rolling in the dirt wasn't exactly manly.

Skeptically he eyed the female for signs of judgement, but she seemed free of any ill will. And he found himself hoping his judgement had been right this time. He shrugged his shoulders, slightly and stepped past the female allowing his tail to brush a few remaining twigs from her fur.

As he stepped past the female, he had a little skip to his step, slowly stretching his way into the small, bright field of light. He inhaled deeply as he reached the perfect spot and almost immediately flopped onto his back and began to roll. His cublike laughter filling the area quickly. "Hey - uh -" Fio paused in his antics and realized he didn't actually know her name. Which was odd, that's one of the first things he wanted to know about someone. "Oh, sorry I don't think I got your name.... Mine's Fio." He offered, with a fond smile hoping she would reciprocate.

Scatha smiled and nodded her head.

"I understand! Normal, everyday lion, like I am. That makes sense. So if we're both normal and everyday, then hanging out shouldn't be too difficult." She could not explain her reasoning there but it sounded reasonable enough. So she smiled brightly as he did, noting that she liked his grin. She didn't usually show her teeth when she smiled, not wanting to look too intimidating or something.

Scatha had had a good enough childhood. Never went hungry, always had other cubs to play with. She felt responsible for her younger brother and she tried to play the Old Sibling role diligently, but in the end she was still playful and young. Certainly all grown up, but resisting the idea that it meant she had to be serious now.

If she was playful and still good at her job within the pride, then she couldn't get in trouble for anything, right?

"My name is Scatha," she said brightly as she moved to roll on her back. Her side bumped his and she looked at him, their faces close if he turned his head toward her. She was smiling, an infectious energy and happiness in her eyes as she looked him over at close range. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Fio!"

Scatha.

That was a rather exotic name...

Though he had little time to think about it before she rolled over onto her back and joined him for a lounge in the sun. He could feel a warmth wash over him, though he was certain it wasn't the sun. The thought that he could become so easily flustered just caused him to become more so. But he attempted to hide it, knowing it wouldn't be easily detectable beneath his dark brown fur. He was thankful for that, but had hardly anytime to appreciate it.

As the two bumped sides, he looked over to see what had caused the trouble. Only to be caught off guard by her alluring stare, being his cubbish self he simply smiled back with his toothy grin. Unsure of what to say to not ruin the moment. Lucky for him, Scatha soon helped him out with that problem, though unlucky for him, she couldn't help his awkwardness.

"Oh, n-no, the pleasure is all mine! Uh... thanks for letting me share your spot!" His grin probably wouldn't be enough to save his fluffy butt this time, but it wouldn't stop him from trying."

Scatha found this patch of grass was even more comfortable than the one she had been interrupted from had been. How very strange. She had never really kept company for this before, but if that was what was making it so much more fun than usual that was good.

Despite being very close to him already, and having hit him when she flopped down, she scooted a little closer to his side to investigate if it was, indeed, his presence that made her feel good, but different. Her shoulder touched his and she felt her fur stand on end.

That confirmed it.

She smiled brightly at him, then bumped her nose to his before she looked back up at the sky and wondered if he would be upset with her for doing so. She blushed under her fur and pretended she had not done anything, just looking at the sky and letting the sun warm her belly.

"The pleasure can be both of ours!" she decreed, flicking her tail contentedly, "and this can be our spot. I think it's better now, anyway."
