Albion, a Robin Hood Pride I/T

Now, there's been a heap of legends and tall tales about Robin Hood. All different, too. Well, we folks of the animal kingdom have our own version. It's the story of what really happened in Sherwood Forest.

This pride is based on a combination of several Robin Hood legends and the history of England at the time at which it was based. While a great deal of the current pride situation is elements from the history of Kings Richard and John (1189-1216) and the Robin Hood element is drawn from the Disney, Costner, and recent BBC versions, we are open to anyone with ideas taken the original myths, other movies, TV shows, or books.

Location

Religion
The Albians believe in a singular creator goddess, Mkodi. The creatures that outsiders call gods are servants of Mkodi so that the great goddess can focus her attention on things other than rivers and thunderstorms and other concepts or ideas. It isn't uncommon to ask for aid of these servants of the goddess (Think angels or saints), but no one worships them like Mkodi is worshiped. That is considered paganism and is frowned upon.

History
Generations ago, the ancient kings settled the pridelands. There have been ups and downs in the past, wars with other prides, rebellions, the pride taken over by outsiders.
For the past several generations, the pride has more or less remained in the paws of one family. The king had died, leaving his mate and two grown sons Lewgalon and Calono'rew, the eldest to succeed him. Lewgalon had been his father's pride and joy, commanding armies in his father's name to conquer their enemies, but after he was named king he intended to stop.

King Lewgalon was to marry the princess of a hostile pride, around the time that Prince Rew was just beginning a family of his own, when a large force from the other pride attacked the royal family on an outing. Rew's mate, sons, and one of his daughters, as well as several other members of the family were all killed in the attack. Along with many of the knights, lords, hunters, healers, and artisans specializing in battle gear, Lewgalon led a campaign on the other pride. Rather than putting the burden on his grieving brother, Lewgalon placed the duties of king into the paws of one of his advisers, Lord Ouran.

In Recent Events...
Under the rule of Ouran, the lower classes have suffered, forced to hunt and craft more than anyone would have thought necessary. The remaining lords and ladies eat at excess and the lower class eat little for fear of being imprisoned by Ouran's knights. Some pridemembers have been driven out of the main pridelands, into the neighboring forests where they steal from traveling nobles in order to feed the most hard-pressed of the lower classes. The largest group of these outlaws is lead by a young male by the name of Asher.

Beliefs
Laws

Gender Roles
- High and Middle Class: Males are the fighters, the law-keepers, and the rulers of their home and the pride members under their authority. A female's duty is to obey and please her father or mate, to raise cubs, and oversee the den-slaves or keep the den clean.
- Low Class: While some might maintain the same gender roles as the High and Middle Class, it is far more common for all members of the family, both male and female, to assist in the hunting.

Other Species & Hybrids
Other species and hybrids are allowed and welcome into the pride. They are not really looked down upon and are just as valuable as lions. The only catch is that only lions may become royalty. The royal bloodline must continue, so should a prince or princess take a cheetah or leopard mate, he/she is immediately placed at the bottom of the succession list.

Familiars
Only predator familiars are allowed. Prey familiars such as hares, klipspringers, and waterbucks can be confused with just normal prey, so they believe it's best to just not go there.

Sexuality

Marriage & Flings
Marriages and Flings are also really class specific. Flings are less of a problem in the lower classes, mostly because no one really cares. It might be difficult for a female to find a mate if she has had offspring before, unless she is widowed or divorced.
In the higher class, however, mating outside of marriage is cause for scandal and is highly frowned upon. It is more common, however, for a high-class male to father a few offspring among his slaves or huntresses under his rule.

Marriages are often arranged by the fathers of the two children, though it is more common that the lower classes marry who they wish. The ceremonies can be as short as a few minutes or as long as day depending on who is getting married and they are always presided over by a priest of the pride.

Marriages that would produce hybrids are fine, but mating between two creatures that cannot produce any offspring, fertile or otherwise (Such as a cheetah with a hyena or a same-gendered couple), is seen as an abomination and both members are cast out of the pride. A lion/cheetah/leopard mating with a hybrid doesn't fall under this because the hybrid may or may not be fertile.

Naming
There are no naming rules. Have fun! =D

Not really any preference there, either.

Seers
Here is something special! Buffy and I could not decide on how we want Seers to be viewed in the pride. So we want you all to tell us. Should seers be...
1. Viewed as a blessing from the gods, treated highly, and a class of their own

2. Viewed with superstition and fear, seer abilities needing to be something that members keep to themselves and those they trust, otherwise they could be exploited, exiled, or even killed

Ranks
King - The main ruler of the pride, he makes all of the decisions that affect the pride as a whole, delegates work among the lords, and leads the knights and lords into battle
Queen - The mate to the King. Her main role is to make the king happy and produce heirs.
Prince - A male with the title of Prince is one of three things. He is either the son of the King, the King's heir, or a Princess' mate.
Princess - A daughter of the King or the mate to the Heir or a Prince.
Lord/Lady - A creature with the title of lord or lady is one of several things. He or she is either a blood relative of the King, a promoted Knight, an Individual that the King has deemed be a leader among the lower classes, or the mate/child of a lord/lady. Lords often have groups of the lower classes assigned to them, delegating the kings duties when the populace of the pride is great. Lords can also act as commanders during wars and advisers to the King. Ladies often entertain the Queen and manage any slaves under their lords' controls.

Priest/Priestess - Priests are charged with studying the gods and presiding over the ceremonies of the pride. Marriage, death, the crowning of a new king, the public welcoming of new offspring into the world (Especially in high class families), things like that. On top of this, they also keep track of the history of the pride and other little hobbies. Because lineage tends to fall into the paws of one male offspring, it isn't uncommon for second-sons and daughters of the high class to become priests/priestesses.
Healer - Healers are fairly self-explanatory. They take care of the injured and sick and help to take care of orphaned youths until they are old enough to begin learning to hunt or another job chosen for them
Artist -They are the crafters of the pride. There are several different types specializing in different crafted items. Some make jewelry, others weapons and armor, others make items for den comfort, and so on.
Knight - Knights are the warriors and guards of the pride. Their primary duty is to protect their king and their pride. Traditionally, this is a male only position. (This is not up for change right now, but this might change sometime in the future with plot)

Hunter/Huntress - Default member. They are, effectively, peasants who hunt in the pride with the permission of the king. They are the backbone of the pride, but as the lower class are mostly ignored by the higher classes. If you aren't pulling your weight in the pride, however, there could be problems.
Youth - Any Middle or Low Class member from cub/pup to adolescent

Slave - Creatures captured from fights with other prides, they are forced to work for the higher classes, those members in a position power high enough to have slaves to assist in their work.
Outlaw - Enemies of the crown. There are usually bounties on their heads, the king demanding they be brought forward for imprisonment, enslavement, or even execution.

Personality: Cold
Rew is cold and bitter after losing his mate and cubs, even more so when a position that was rightfully his was given to one of the lords instead. Despite this, he is still a clever male, knowing full well if he tried to take control of the kingdom from Ouran, he would quickly fail without the people's support. Without the duties of the king on his shoulders, he finds he has little to do and spends his day wandering the palace grounds or hunting with some of the other lords.
He is severely overprotective of his daughter, not letting her outside of the grounds and even getting overly annoyed if others talk with her too much.
Back-story: Youngest son of Queen Aliénor and King NAME, he is brother to King Lewgalon. He grew up knowing that his brother would be king before he was considered, so held no hard feelings when his brother was crowned. When he was an adolescent, he was wed to the cousin of another pride's king, a female about his age named Avisa. Together they had four children, Kratos, Bia, Zelus, and Nike. Sadly, his mate and eldest three cubs were all killed by another pride. His grief turned even more bitter when his brother left to war against the pride and named one of the lords acting king in his stead, rather than him, the crown prince and heir.

Personality: Quiet
Nike is a soft, kind-hearted individual, speaking little and to the unperceptive saying less. It is often assumed that she is a dull lady with no greatest joy than the pretty trinkets her father bestows on her. But this is not true, as she spends most of her time with the palace priests and hears nearly every piece of gossip within the royal chambers. Despite this relaxed attitude around her, though, Nike is also a good secret-keeper, a trait she learned well from her father.

Like her friend Lady Agnez, Nike is something of a bleeding heart, wishing she could do more to help the poor people of Albion, but also far more resigned to her place of inability as a high-born female.
Back-story: The only remaining daughter of Prince Calono'rew and Princess Avisa, Nike has been sheltered by her father, forever guarded and protected. Although she cannot be ruler of the pride, she it the youngest generation in the royal family and, should her father and uncle die before producing any male heirs, she would become Queen. She has spent most of her life in the royal dens, barely ever leaving the grounds for her father's fear of losing her. This has made her a subdued individual, but a very shrewd one nonetheless, as she often has no one to talk to beside Ladies and Priests.

Personality: Stubborn
Back-story: Lady Agnez was the daughter of a lord who died in one of earlier crusades and asked that Lewgalon become her guardian. Ever since, she has been the ward of the king and the apple of his eye. She is pampered just as any princess would be, but she prefers going out and spending time with the people, like her mother had. Her mother had been a very charitable individual, and her daughter is trying her best to be her mother's daughter.
When Lord Ouran took over for King Lewgalon, Agnez became a crusader for the lower classes of the pride, working hard to organize aid for those that were having trouble supporting themselves and their families. At least, as much as she could under Ouran's nose.

She has known Asher since they were cubs together, and loved him for almost just as long.

All you really need to know about Kweu is that she's severely protective of her babies, even if they're grown. Her loyalties are to them first and foremost.
Beside that, Kweu tends to keep to herself, hunting with her babies to support themselves and to pay the taxes due to the crown.
Back-story: Born in a wilddog pack and abused by her packmates and family as a pup. As soon as she grew up enough to leave, she did. After several failed relationships and a healing of her sanity, she had a small litter of puppies with a passing male, and raised them on her own.
When she came across Albion, she thought it was an interesting opportunity, maybe they would be accepted in a pride full of other creatures.

As the lower classes began to get squeezed, Mach has taken it upon herself to work harder, to spend more time hunting so that they could survive and not be arrested for not being able to pay their taxes.

Back-story: Originally hailing from the Suka'fumo, Zach felt, like his older sister Karneila, no connection to the fey ways of their Groundling parents, despite their younger sister, Tegan, feeling so. And very much like his older sister, he felt no connection to the main pride, either. So at adolescence, they both left and persued their own ideals. Zach ended up taking a spiritual path compared to his older sister's warrior path, before he found his way to Albion, where he became a priest displeased with how Rew has been handling things. As a result of his parents' somewhat secretive mischievous ways, he's been keen on helping the poor.

Aiolos is a little whirlwind with a heart full of ambition but no head for direction. Because of this, he comes off as a bit of a spaz and a feather-head. When he's not pestering his mother and siblings, he's most likely drifted off in pursuit of a passing cricket. He has a tenancy to get lost or wind up stuck somewhere. He looses himself to his fantasies that often times, he finds himself in situations and he can't recall rightly how he got there. Stuck on a boulder in the middle of a pond, stuck on the highest branch of a tree, stuck in the fork of a series of roots- he's not sure what happened but now he's stuck and reality caught up with him.

Really... he's not been rped. I'm trying to get him plots but life happens to myself or those I plot with so it's not been easy. So far, he's lived with his mom in the rogue lands with his siblings but he has a short attention span and no head for direction so it's easy to say he could get lost and scooped up by the pride. XD

Personality:
Baird is the embodiment of the artists' spirit. He appreciates the beauty in colors, shapes, and forms. He'll often spend his time simply admiring a landscape or starring at how light moves off water. He expresses himself most often in the form of song- and thankfully for his peers, he has the makings of a pleasant voice.

Where he's soulfully strong, he's a bit of a disappointment in the combat field. He has absolutely no drive towards combat. While he's light on his feet- he's also light with his claws.
Back-story:
Baird left his home pride as it was just too combatant for his tastes. There was no place for him and he was attached at the hip to his childhood friend, Parzival. He's wandered the freelands listening for new stories and songs, audiences that will give him a moment of their time and perhaps a leg of their kill and then he's on his way again. Parzival and he are common traveling companions but the two often split ways when Parzival rushes off to do his little heroics. Baird eagerly awaits for new stories to sing about. He'd fit in well as the intrigue of the pride would make for some interesting songs.

Personality:
Silence is a gentle and faithful soul. He has a very traditional view of the world, thanks in part to the gentle upbringing of his mother and his own insightful spirit. He's a virtuous individual with a meek presence, speaking softly words of encouragement. As he grows, he'll develop a very firm view of right and wrong and a will to uphold the light in the world as best he can while gently addressing the darkness.For the most part, he's a pacifist, one to try to talk through a problem before resorting to violence. He has a decent pair of fangs and he's not incapable with them- but bloodshed is his very last resort.

Silence will develop a golden voice and a lot for song- particularly those of worship.
Back-story:
Silence was raised under the god of peace and the goddess of instinct. He understands both mercy and necessity and when both are to be applied. He keeps in touch with his siblings but he made it his mission to learn more and more about the nature of the gods and spread his knowledge where he was able. I would like a lot of rp for this boy and to get him kind of in a tight spot within the pride. He's not the sort to choose sides but he he seems to attract trouble like a lightning rod. I'd like a plot where, perhaps, he starts out on one side and ends up being framed or caught being sympathetic to the other side, forcing him to take refuge among the outlaws. This can be discussed! Feel free to abuse him a bit.

Personality:
Vilhelm is a spitfire with a short fuse on his temper and a sharp tongue. He's defiant as they come and often throws caution to the wind. A good sense of humor and a sharp wit are two of his better qualities. He's small in stature, thin in frame, but deathly accurate and weilds a degree of dexterity seen normally exclusively within the leopard-kind.
Back-story:
I would like to plot this out a bit with you guys! Ideally, I'd like for Vilhelm to have been orphaned at cubhood thanks to the outlaws. It would be interesting if he had royal blood in him to up the drama but that's completely up to you guys. Rather than taking the cub's life along with his parents, one of the outlaws could have brought him in to live as one of them, keeping the youth in the dark as to his true lineage.
Appearance:
I'll work up a reference later on. I'd like him to be mostly natural-toned (think a traditional tlk color/marking with an outlander tint to his fur) with a scarlet mane and tail (where he'll get his nickname from) and dark 'markings' around his eyes.

Silence is a gentle and faithful soul. He has a very traditional view of the world, thanks in part to the gentle upbringing of his mother and his own insightful spirit. He's a virtuous individual with a meek presence, speaking softly words of encouragement. As he grows, he'll develop a very firm view of right and wrong and a will to uphold the light in the world as best he can while gently addressing the darkness.For the most part, he's a pacifist, one to try to talk through a problem before resorting to violence. He has a decent pair of fangs and he's not incapable with them- but bloodshed is his very last resort.

Silence will develop a golden voice and a lot for song- particularly those of worship.
Back-story:
Silence was raised under the god of peace and the goddess of instinct. He understands both mercy and necessity and when both are to be applied. He keeps in touch with his siblings but he made it his mission to learn more and more about the nature of the gods and spread his knowledge where he was able. I would like a lot of rp for this boy and to get him kind of in a tight spot within the pride. He's not the sort to choose sides but he he seems to attract trouble like a lightning rod. I'd like a plot where, perhaps, he starts out on one side and ends up being framed or caught being sympathetic to the other side, forcing him to take refuge among the outlaws. This can be discussed! Feel free to abuse him a bit.

Vilhelm is a spitfire with a short fuse on his temper and a sharp tongue. He's defiant as they come and often throws caution to the wind. A good sense of humor and a sharp wit are two of his better qualities. He's small in stature, thin in frame, but deathly accurate and weilds a degree of dexterity seen normally exclusively within the leopard-kind.
Back-story:
I would like to plot this out a bit with you guys! Ideally, I'd like for Vilhelm to have been orphaned at cubhood thanks to the outlaws. It would be interesting if he had royal blood in him to up the drama but that's completely up to you guys. Rather than taking the cub's life along with his parents, one of the outlaws could have brought him in to live as one of them, keeping the youth in the dark as to his true lineage.
Appearance:
I'll work up a reference later on. I'd like him to be mostly natural-toned (think a traditional tlk color/marking with an outlander tint to his fur) with a scarlet mane and tail (where he'll get his nickname from) and dark 'markings' around his eyes.
