QUESTLINE: To Trance of Not to Trance

You wander around the edge of the reserves, where there seem to be more of an abundance of natural supplies in the forms of flowers, leaves, tiny saplings, even a sampling of wild herbs and more hostile vegetation, when you notice a lost-looking Death priestess. She stares at you, blinking. In her hand is a basket, mostly empty, with only a small collection of leaves.

"Can you help me for a second?" She looks straight up at you, pulling her basket towards you for you to examine. "I forgot what supplies are needed for Trance."

Hell if you knew.

"This is important," she pleads, all but clinging on to you as a lifeline. "Can you help me grab the proper reagents to use for Trance?"

OOC

- Roll a 100-sided dice and match your dice roll to the results below. You will need to roll 5 times. You complete the RP once you have done so.

- 1-20: You see some flowers, they look familiar, snapping dragons perhaps? You grab some, though one of them takes a chunk of your finger. Ouch!
- 21 - 40: You reach over for... some poisonous mushrooms? Why not...
- 41 - 60: You get to working on chopping some of the large, overgrown wild grass, but it seems to have other ideas as it nearly strangles you. Fortunately, you defeat the wild grass.
-61 - 80: You see an exotic vine, well, that looks fun. As you grab it you suddenly feel drowsy and..... well you wake up a little later, feeling slightly refreshed, if not miffed okay.
- 81 - 100: You see a few tree branches, they look harmless enough.... until one smacks you in the hand. MINI BOSS: This tree branch is actually an angry minipet. You have to placate the minipet/ defeat it to point of near-consciousness to use it okay. Roll 2d8-8 to determine your attack, the minipet does 5 auto damage to you and has 15 HP. You need to keep on hitting it until you defeat it.

As soon as Soren saw the priestess he kept one eye on her. He would not disturb her if she was working, her duties would be far more important than his own. However, she looked oddly lost, an expression that was seen far too often since the fall of the isles among the horsemen. Then she looked his way and their eyes met as she requested assistance.

The request itself made his throat tighten even as he moved forward to take the basket from her. "Please priestess," he said with his rich, low voice and with a slight bow as he reached out to take the basket, "there isn't a need to do more than ask. A guardian would not refuse a priestesses request unless there was a dire reason that he would not." At least, not a guardian without a priestess to call his own.

It wrenched at his heart to see her this way, to hear her asking about this. The very idea of what he was about to do made his heart positively ache. Collecting ingredients for a priestess..he could do this. He would be strong, there was a priestess in need and he would not deny her. Basket in hand he moved off into the forest at a brisk pace. Not running away, just wishing to help her as quickly as he could.

The day was a fair one, but he realized that with his focus on the mission he had just been walking without focusing. Mentally kicking himself he returned fully to the task at hand, refusing to wool-gather any longer. He was not hunting alpaca after all.

One of the first ingredients that he found were poisonous mushrooms. Without a second thought he knelt and began to pick them to add to the basket. Horridly poisonous to consume? Yes, but merely the cap. The stalk itself was perfectly fine oddly enough, so after he pulled up the fungus he set the caps to the side. Once they were cleaned they would be fine for an ingredient.

Or so he thought. Either way, stalks in the basket? Check.

Not that far from the mushrooms, at the base of a different tree (did trees have different types? Most of them looked the same to him) was a snarl of flowers. All-to-familiar flowers.

Flowers that he had no intention of ever trying to raise.

Far more dangerous than any spiteful woman, and most feral creatures, the snapping dragons were, unfortunately, just what he needed. Not even bothering to mask his displeasure he crouched down, eyeing the patch and trying to find an isolated one. Now then, put his best, gauntleted hand forward...

The painful snap and the resulting lose of flesh actually came from his left hand, which he had set down carelessly in his focus on his right. Snatching his hand back he hissed in pain, but managed to get another in his right hand and dropped it into the basket before it could add to the damage. Maybe he could see about picking all of the snapdragons in the forest. Or, more likely, trying to get someone else to do it.

This forest seemed to be alive with mushrooms. Really, the forest floor was teeming with them, and many seemed to be nonpoisonous and perfectly safe for consumption. Those he left alone. His sights instead were on a different breed of poisonous mushrooms. These were poisonous unless fully cooked oddly enough. Something about the high temperature just took the poison right out of them, a change on a molecular level perhaps.

Soren did not know the science of them, nor did he care. He simply knew that these mushrooms belonged in his basket so he plucked them and added them in. So maybe he tried to hit the snap dragon with them. Even pulled up plants still had a kick to them, and he was not about to underestimate it.

At some point picking the poisonous mushrooms just became methodical. Some he took the caps off of, some he took only the caps. Some went into the basket whole. He had done this before, hands instinctively going toward the mushrooms if he just let his mind wander.

For a moment he was back to before, plucking up ingredients for Astridr, humming a tune, a peculiar noise as it was a deep, resonating bass that filled the air around him. Soldiers might mock him for picking flowers when they went to the human world and singing songs, but they never did it to his face. If they did, they never did it twice. Astridr would be pleased with his find, enough that should would probably not need any of this sort of mushroom for years to come if properly preserved, or she could trade them away for other ingredients.

He blinked his eyes rapidly for a moment, an odd noise in the air around him.

His own voice, humming that same song. This throat closed off, and he swallowed a lump. No, that was the past, that was the past.

Salt water dripped onto the mushroom, slowly sliding down the cap and leaving a pale streak on the dirt coated surface before it was crushed by a heavy foot, a guardian moving on to try to complete his task.

There, up above, were some promising tree branches. He had just moved past one to find a better branch when it smacked him in the back of the head. Already not pleased, not at all he turned quickly...to see the true culprit.

A death vaisel, with its eerie trappings adorning it. Possibly it had escaped, or possibly it had somehow crossed over on its own. Either way, nothing smacked him in the head like that.

Well, maybe this vaisel did. As he reached out for it it sprang away, the branch flying back into his face.

It was almost as if his heart was not into it, or the vaisel was incredibly fast. Soren missed yet again.

Soren was just picking himself up out of the dirt when a nut fell out of the tree, whacking him in the head. Great.

"HIYYYAAAAAAAA! RAZOR LEAVES RAIN FROM TREES!"

Standing in one of the lower branches of a tree, Tseng suddenly was shooting down at what looked like an enraged minipet with his bow. After firing a few, he jumped down. Wait no. Flipped down before bowing to Soren.

"Looks like you could use a little help here!"

The yell? Absolutely startling, and for a split second his heart stopped even as he whirled to face his attac--Tseng? He nodded at the horseman, slightly impressed by his acrobatics as he listened to him.

Was Soren really the type to admit that he had been absolutely failing at even touching this minipet? Well, he didn't plan to go out of his way to point it out.

Then something else occurred to him.

It wasn't...no it couldn't be..."How long have you been in the trees?" he asked, just slightly suspicious. It was a valid concern! Surely a single minipet couldn't pull ALL of that off on its own! He shied a rock in the vaisel's direction, but there was no resounding yelp to indicate that it hit.

"Oh for about ten minutes. I wanted to make sure to come in at a good time," Tseng grinned.

After getting charged at by the Vaisel, he flipped back and fired another shot from his bow before dismissing it. It was time to get a little more up close and personal with this creature as far as he could tell.

"Such a fearsome beast! It would have been a glorious sight to see it fall to just one clansmen. "
