A run-down, beaten up home located in the slums of the Fire Nation. The front door's lock could be easily broken into. The house itself is poorly constructed. The wood is rotting, the nails are not properly hammered in. The foundations of the home are week and there are holes in the ceiling that have been patched up several times.

Once you enter, however, the inside is a bit nicer than the sad appearance from the street. The house is well kept and cleaned often. The appliances and furniture are worn and second-rate, but often repaired. There is only one bedroom with a small bed for Pongo Tenzai. The couch has holes in it and is very worn, with a quilt and a ragged pillow folded neatly on top. There is a well crafted table using poor quality materials next to the couch. On top it are stacks of opened documents, entailing bills and expenses. The rooms are lit by candles. An open window in the kitchen provides air, though the shutters are extremely worn and do not lock.

This is the residence of Pongo Tenzai and his son Jhaqo.

As he neared his home in the slums of the Fire Nation, Jhaqo kept his gaze on the tattered door of his abode, making sure not to make eye contact with any of the troublesome individuals still loitering in the street. He didn't think they'd dare to start anything while the guards were still out, but they could be changing shifts soon and it was quickly growing dark. He could not be safe in the slums for very long. As he neared the door, he reached into his satchel for an old, rusty key. Inserting it into the lock, he twisted it counterclockwise and pushed the door open.

With a grating creak, the door cracked open and Jhaqo entered his home, locking the door behind him. He retrieved the fish he had retrieved from the bazaar earlier in the day and cooked it rather quickly. Unfurling the parchment that the Firebending instructor Mako had given him, he seated himself on the couch and began to read the images slowly. Taking caution not to spill any of his food on the delicate parchment, he read the first skill aloud. "Fireball," he mumbled, biting on rice and fish alike. "Seems easy enough." Swallowing the last bits of his dinner, he set his bowl in the sink and put away the half a fish and rice he left over for his father.

By pushing the tattered couch against the wall, Jhaqo cleared a bit of space in the small apartment for himself to be able to move freely. He carefully laid the parchment against the wall and tacked it there, keeping his gaze on the first few images of the Fireball technique. It was extremely similar to what he had learned earlier in the day, though the Fireball produced was supposed to be significantly larger.

His father wouldn't be home for the night. It was growing late and, as he had to report to the docks early in the morning for work, he should've been sleeping. But instead, he assumed the position: jutting out his right foot, adjusting his posture to be fluid yet sharp, raising the arms, one higher than the other. Deep breath. Firebend. He was determined to learn this move before the night was over.

Stances. Form. Breath. Fuel.

The rays of the rising sun pierced the small apartment through the window just above the sink in the kitchen. The shutters were closed, but so tattered that the light could easily penetrate and fill the apartment. As the light traveled throughout the small residence, it snaked its way towards a man in a rather unorthodox position on the sofa. His eyes were closed and he seemed to be sleeping peacefully. His left arm was draped over the sofa while his right one hung loosely off the front. His left leg had managed to make its way onto the actual sofa, while his right leg dangled off the edge a bit. Both of his feet were still clad in their open-toed shoes. A pillow was hastily crammed behind his head, though a once neatly folded quilt was now being crushed by the man's lower body.

The brightness of day worked its way to the couch, finally resting on Jhaqo's eyes. His eyelids fluttered for a moment before opening. On reflex, his left arm raised and his palm flew outward, as if to shield his eyes from the light. He blinked a few times to recognize the sensation, stifling a yawn that threatened to snatch him back into the world of dreaming. Using his other hand to rub both eyes and rid them of any dust, he continued to stare at the shutters that were unable to catch the light from outside.

Morning.

'Morning already?!' he thought frantically, bolting his body upright. He had spent the past night learning the Fireball move. The shutters were only closed because he used the open shutters as a target the previous night, sending Fireball after Fireball through the open window and hoping they would increase in size. Soon they nearly enveloped the entire opening and he feared the flames would be noticed, so he closed the shutters. But its objective had been accomplished: his Fireball grew to a respectable size, nearly three times the size of the solid sphere that he had created at the training grounds the day before. It had taken him the majority of the night--and only once the Fireball was the size of his kitchen window did he fall onto his couch from exhaustion and allowed himself to drift to sleep. But by then it was nearly morning, thus only allowing him a couple hours of sweet rest.

Making his way to the bathroom, he splashed some cold water onto his face and washed up. Grabbing his familiar shoulder pads, he buckled them on and returned to the living room. The Firebending scroll bestowed to him by Mako laid unfurled on the living room table, still in the pristine condition that it was given to him. He had made extensive use of it: staring at the first set of instructions for hours and committing each step to memory. But it had paid off. He had learned the Fireball skill--and, to his knowledge, mastered it. Plucking a nearby quill and dipping it into some ink, he made a very minute mark next to the first skill, signifying his accomplishment.

Quickly rolling the scroll back up, he placed it into his satchel before leaving the apartment. He couldn't be late for work.

She had set up her stall temporarily but soon closed it down- she was too tired for work today. She needed some rest, and thats when the residence caught her eye, it was run-down looking, as if it had not been used a lot. Upon entering she snuck into the nearest room she found- a small cramped tiny storage room which she could easily fit into. Although Hiiragi dressed and looked like a rich girl she was indeed homeless, making money for food by bending precious rocks out of the ground. Silently she curled up on the floor, pulling the door too, and soon fell asleep, her face looking drawn and weary.
