Land and Sea. Two very different places in the world. The land is in inhabited by humans, now almost over populating the world. The sea is a mysterious place filled with so many different creatures and the depths still left unexplored. Many questions have arisen from curious humans, along with fascinating stories of myth and fantasy. Many sea men come to shore sharing unexplained stories of monstrous beasts that appeared during a treturous storm or of wonders experienced while free diving in the middle of the ocean. I am sure that many of you are familiar with the stories of mer-folk, but many of the stories have been altered to be more appealing to humans. It is not a myth that there are mer-folk, but they are not as friendly as they seem...the smart fisherman know not to disturb these mer-folk for if they do it will result in their sudden disappearance.
~Information on Mer-people~
The mer-folk live completely separate of the human world, excluding the many few who venture on land on their own accord, and are often times miss understood. It is said that the mer-people in fact have no soul and they rely on the connection of a singular item (often times a shell) to live. With the absence of a soul these creatures have a hard time expressing and feeling emotions.
In the past mer-folk have been less cautious and visited the surface very often, but when they were discovered by the greedy human race they were soon threatened to return to their watery abyss. Because of the threat of humans when ever a fisherman's boat ventured too close to their oasis they would move to protect themselves using their beautiful lulling voices to tempt them and drag them down to the crushing pressures of the water and drown them, but there was only one problem.
Mer-people can not completely separate themselves from the human world because they need humans in order to reproduce. Mer-folk can in fact not reproduce with one another, they need a human to do so. With much caution they return to land and find a suitable human (one who is too week to their natural charm) and conceive a child. The children who belong to a mermaid are given birth in the sea and their transformation into a mer-person is very easy and natural, but the mer-folk who are conceived on land are not so fortunate. These children are more human then anything, but their soul has a strange imbalance in their body and they are torn between the decision of giving away their soul and becoming a mer-person or keeping their soul and staying human. To make matters worse, most of these children are not even aware that they are in fact a mer-person so many of them do not venture to their true home.
