Lesedi carried himself with pride as he neared the training grounds where a group of young Stormborn lions was practicing. Ruzanski hadn’t returned from his viking but Lesedi had decided to stop thinking about the young Captain with the same kind of fierce competitive and perhaps even resentful attitude that he had reserved solely for the dark lion. He had come to accept that his two defeats against the Ruzanski had been valuable learning experiences that had motivated him to train and better himself and now, as he watched his fellow Reavers spar amongst themselves, he knew he’d made the right decision in joining this pride. So when he planned the way he’d challenge Ru for a rematch he was not filled with resentment or a desire for retribution but instead the thought brought a sense of giddy anticipation to the tawny lion’s mind and body.

User Image Tal was taking a long deserved break after making a very nice cloak for herself. She had wanted to give it to someone, but some of the reavers and such were very picky about the idea of wearing a cloak. She didn't understand it. There were many of the pride wearing them, but try to give someone one and they seemed to think you were trying to imply them weak. The cloak was made out of leopard hide and she thought it looked rather nice. It would not have been her first choice of pelts with it being almost all black, but, the again, she took what the others brought back from viking.

She looked up as one of the lions that joined after her came to the training grounds. He was a rather handsome lion, but she had hear he had to challenge three times to get in. She wondered what happened that it took so long. He could not have had a better Reaver than Vol from what she had heard of Vol, but she also did not want to think that a male that did get into the pride was a horrible fighter, either. He had managed to get in afterall, he must have fighting talent.

The lioness nodded to the male. "Hello." Okay so she really was not sure what to say to him other than to greet him, but still. He could not be a bad guy, so he should give her something to build on when he answered the greeting. Or he could be an a** and ignore her. Either way she would have some idea of what he was like for future encounters. She really did have to try and make more friends in the pride rather than keeping to herself so much. Perhaps she would get lucky and this could be a friend. Perhaps.

As Tal approached, Lesedi’s expression was a mix of blatant surprise and suspicion. He knew most of the Reavers of the pride by now and he could see no reason for a freeborn – female… - to be approaching him so casually. While he got along nicely enough with the Reaver lionesses that often acted more like males than he'd expect, Lesedi never really knew the sort of greeting to offer the freeborn ones so he hesitated before replying.

“Morning. Can I help you?” he asked in a polite but guarded tone, wondering what sort of business she had come to him for. Hopefully, she wasn’t one of those husband-seeking lionesses that liked to bother the unmarried Reavers who had shown promise or success in their recent vikings. As an Outlander and a relative recent addition to the Stormborn garrison, Lesedi had so far been able to avert most of those bothersome things but he was certain he'd have to deal with once he'd earned a few more scars.

Tal gave an inward sigh. He had not given her much to work with. His whole stance was guarded and rather offputting. Well, so much for knowing what to say. She was going to have to wing this and hope for the best. "I was just interested in speaking with another whom is a recent addition to the pride like myself. If you are too busy, I can understand. But I thought perhaps you could use another friend?" It was probably the wrong thing to say, but being an outlander himself, perhaps he would not take offense to it.

She might have been hoping for too much with this male. He did seem vary unapproachable. Heck, he seemed more unapproachable than the pride born Reavers at this point. Tal wanted to be sweet and nice to this male, but she had to learn to put more steal in her expressions. This pride did not take well to her soft tone and sweet words. She had earned her place, but even the Thralls had a problem with the way she tried to be nice instead of pushing them about. It was so backwards, and yet, she would not have traded this pride for the world.

Friend? Lesedi would’ve snorted if the lioness’ previous words hadn’t caught his interest so quickly. He had no need for female friends – if the concept truly existed. He had learned to trust his back to female Reavers if they was worthy enough but give them a bit of mint and ‘n**, and he knew most of them would turn into frisky obnoxious vixens who were as loose as the necklaces some Stormborn liked to carry around their necks. Trying to have a female who was not related to him as a friend and only a friend seemed like a ridiculously impossible endeavor.

“You’re an Outlander, as well…?”
he asked curiously with a frown, a hint of disbelief in his voice. Surely, she couldn’t have defeated a Reaver in a fight without being taken as a thrall instead. She wasn’t that large or that fierce-looking… perhaps she’s won against a female Reaver… one who was having a bad day. Yes, that was definitely it.

Tal was grateful of the question. It gave her something to build on. Something that was not completely her idea and thus felt like pushing at the other lion. It was also nice to think that her comments had not been offensive to the male. That was always nice. She really did not want to have to fight another Reaver. She hated having to fight if she could avoid it. Just too irritating when there were better things to spend ones time on. She did like to think she was fairly good at fighting when she needed to be. But she also did not train for it constantly like the Reavers.

"I am an Outlander by birth, yes. I fought Voldemaras on my challenge and won." That disbelief in the male's tone was understandable she guessed. She did not come off as fierce even if she could be when she had to be. Her voice took on a bit more steel even if the general tone was still soft. "I do hope you are not one of those Reavers only interested in the silly idea of finding a wife among the Freeborn. I would much rather have a friend or two and keep to making things for the pride than marry off and have cubs." She really needed to learn to keep her trap shut.

The look on Lesedi’s face must’ve been something because the thoughts inside were as muddled as they had only been in two other occasions of his life.

“You defeated Voldemaras?!” he asked, his disbelief much more vocal this time. Granted, Vol wasn’t exactly a young lion in his prime but the older Stormborn was still a fearsome opponent. He could not believe the black and white lioness could have defeated him in a fair fight and he eyed the lioness intently, trying to find a hidden strength she could’ve used against the experienced warrior. The young Reaver was seeing nothing in that angle and he was about to rudely point it out when Tal continued talking and surprised him further. Honestly, he had never met anyone who been able to confuse him so quickly and with so few words.

“I have no interest in settling down. But I thought all freeborn girls wanted that, I know lions who can’t take a step without swarms of them popping up.” He replied almost defensively with a firm tone though his expression was slowly becoming much more pleasant as curiosity and surprise won over caution. “What do you mean by that… make things for the pride?” Nothing seemed obvious with this lioness.

Tal was becoming very amused by this lion, but her smile only managed to be kind even with the amusement twinkling in her eyes. She just didn't show wickedness in her features no matter how she felt. Then again she very seldom felt 'wicked' so that made sense. "Yes, my one and only challenge was against Voldemaras and I am Freeborn, so that would mean I won... though defeat seems a harsh term, considering he is still a great Reaver not a disgraced foe." She did rather remember Vol fondly. It was not every day that one managed to force her to fight and then begrudgingly give up the fight because she was using the sun in his eyes to both fight and in a way tease him.

Tal was very relieved that this Reaver was not all for the idea of settling down just yet. She really was not either, not yet anyway. "I have observed such things as well... I have also observed Reavers encouraging this behavior or trying to imply such things to Freeborn females that are NOT swarming for a husband. Not all of the Freeborn girls are looking for a husband. Some of us have other things to put our attention on. Perhaps one day I MIGHT settle down, but I do not see that being any day soon if ever." The lioness liked being her own mistress so to speak. Doing what she wanted when she wanted, and not having to explain her actions to some nosy male all the time.

"I make things such as cloaks, and jewelry... weapons if it suits or even armor." Tal shrugged her shoulders as if this was no big deal. The very fine cloak on her back was a good example of her great talent. "I made this cloak... the Reavers brought in a dead leopard with a black pelt and I used it to make this. I did not often have time to do such things when I was not part of the pride, but I have always had a talent for it." She was proud of her talent. She just did not let it go to her head, especially after so many had turned down gifts of her finely crafted things with such suspicion. "If it can help show how important or imposing one is, I can probably make it."

“On your first try? You won against Voldemaras on your first try?” the disbelief in his voice was no surprise this time. No way! No way could she have fought him and won in a fair fight. Vol had definitely gone easy on her or she’d cheated somehow or seduced him or something. Something! Vol had been Ruzanski mentor and Lesedi had lost twice against the dark Captain. He refused to consider the possibility that this lioness could be somehow superior and win against him in a fair match. Contrary to form, he kept his doubts in his mind as there were many things he still wanted to ask the Freeborn.

If ever. She had actually used those words as if she was seriously considering the possibility of never settling down in her life. How many females actually said that?! As his suspicions rose again – surely, she was simply telling him what she believed he wanted to hear at this point, right? – the lion found himself pulling his ears forward and eyeing the lioness with a very curious expression.

“Armor…” That was… interesting. And useful which deeply contrasted with the mostly pointless “duties” of Freeborns who seemed to do nothing more than to order the thralls around, chase after cubs and sing silly songs. “If I bring a pelt back from a viking, I might seek you out then. It’s very well-made, that one.” What was this? Lesedi was compliment something a female had done. What a strange day this was.

Tal blinked at the male. She had forgotten for a moment that he'd taken three tries to get in. Crap. She should not have brought that up. "Yes, I won on my first try... I studied what I could see of the pride for a long time before trying." She hoped that sounded better than just her winning on the first try. She did not want to offend the male at all. She could hear the disbelief and shock and wondered if it was bad that these amused her. This male this REAVER was confused by her. It was so refreshing in a way, and yet she did not let this show on her face as she kept being as pleasant as could be.

"It is well-made.. perhaps you would like this one for now and you can trade it back when I have made another for you... or just keep this one if it suits you better." Tal rather liked the way this male had turned much of his focus to her crafting ability. That was her talent and her life. she wanted it to be the major thing she was judged by. "Armor is one thing I can make, but one would have to know exactly what they wanted... helm, leg guards, or something else... and a general idea of what they wished it to look like so I could figure out exactly what parts I would need..."

"Of course I could work faster if I had a Thrall of my own... most of the Thralls are less than useful around here or are someone else's personal toy." The lioness just could not see the point of having a Thrall and not using it for something useful, an assistant, a hunter, something. It brought to mind that hyena pub that she had learned was the pup of a female that pretty much was spoiled rotten and not really made to do anything. The pup was arrogant and down right mean to Tal, and the mother she had heard was much the same to anyone that tried to tell her pups to do something.

Lesedi tilted his head a little at the revelation that the lioness had studied the pride before challenging one of the Reavers. It was almost a foreign concept to the tawny lion, whose idea of “planning” meant taking a deep breath before jumping into whatever crazy action he had in front of his eyes. He still found it strange that she had somehow won against the experienced Reaver but she didn't doubt quite as much anymore.

“And you won.” He seemed to finally accept the outcome of her challenge, even though a tiny voice in the back of his mind – growing ever tinier – still refused to believe it. His tone became a little friendlier when he spoke again. “You know… there’s no rule about it… but you’re not supposed to talk about your askorun. I mean, you’re not supposed to say who lost to you.” He could definitely see Vol being rather annoyed at having a smaller female casually mention how he’d lost to her. It sounded like something that could land her in trouble.

“No, thank you. I can’t accept something I haven’t earned with my blood.” Lesedi replied to her offer in what was definitely a polite and perhaps even grateful tone. “But if I find anything of value, I’ll bring it to you for you to work on or as compensation. Maybe even a thrall… if I ever find a useful one. I have no interest in keeping one for myself. What do you need in a thrall? Strength? Good paws…?” Lesedi wondered the species that would be more suited for these crafter tasks. A monkey might be nice but they were so hard to catch… mmm.

Tal's eyes twinkled as she answered the male's comment about the askorun. "When nobody wishes to believe whom you have won against, it does not matter if one speaks. Besides, Vol would simply say he went easy on me." She chuckled and shrugged it off. "I rarely mention it unless someone does not seem willing to respect me at my rank. Rather like your tone and stance gave when I approached." She actually found it amusing that the male was worked up over her challenge.

"A Thrall would be a wonderful trade for my work... I would need one that is not too cocky as those are just annoying... and one that has intact paws and teeth. Missing or deformed paws are not useful for what I do. And while the majority of what I really would be having them do is freeing up my time for my crafting, the occasional help with my work would require them not to be at a disadvantage physically..." Tal smiled at the male. "Perhaps a hybrid to keep then from having cubs of their own and getting all snotty like one of the hyenas I have heard about."

Tal blinks at herself. "Here I am going on and on with you, and I forgot to introduce myself. Where are my manners? I do apologize for the lack, and will make up for it. My name is Talaitha. If you would bring me things for my work, I would be grateful, and make it worth your time with items you would find useful. It is a fair and worthwhile trade, I think." She nods to the Reaver male with quite a big of respect. If he did what he said, she would definitely count him as a friend. It would certainly be nice to have a Reaver friend whom did not think her too strange. The other Freeborns certainly did enough thinking her strange to last Tal a life time.

Lesedi looked at the lioness with a dumb-founded expression when she explained why she’d told him her match had been against Voldemaras and he had to admit her words actually made a lot of sense. He chuckled a few times, the usual pent up tension of his body quickly dissipating in this strange little wave of humor.

“Yes… I guess I was a little… gruff.” Others used to call it rude but they were idiots whose opinion didn’t really matter.

“The thralls are getting cocky, hum? It won’t be pretty when someone is forced to do something about that.” It seemed he had actually made an interesting acquaintance today. Someone who seemed to share his view of the world. Tough, despite her looks, and with talent for the crafts that might prove rather useful in the future. “I’m Lesedi. I’ll find you when I bring something interesting back to the pride.”

Shaking his body with one fluid motion, Lesedi gave the lioness a friendly smile, not really realizing he was now treating her just like one of the – sober – female Reavers he knew.

“I’m going to spar for bit now. I’ll see you around.” The tawny lion grinned before slowly turning to leave.

Tal grinned at the male's tone finally turning completely friendly or at least not suspicious. She was happy to have finally made a friend so to speak. "Perhaps a bit." She had to agree with him on his opinions of Thralls. Someone was going to do something about them eventually, and while it wasn't going to be her, it certainly was not going to be a 'pretty' thing for the Thralls when it happened. She rather hoped she would get to see it, though. It might be amusing especially if it was that rude little pup she had encountered. Not that she would EVER say such things out loud. No, she would remain the sweet creature on the outside. It was her way.

Lesedi, huh? His name was rather well, proud, if you asked Tal. Then again, the whole lion was very proud as he was a Reaver, so it was fitting. She could not wait for him to bring something back for her to work on, though. A lion like him surely could find some interesting things to bring back. She was half disappointed that he had to leave, but at the same time it was nice to be able to go back to her crafting now. She'd done her socializing, she really had other things to do now. "Do not bruise too your opponents' pride too much, Lesedi." She called after him and then turned to go back to her den and get her current project out. She would do something productive.
