OOC
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. [ Task of Famine: ] The Blight
This task requires a group of AT LEAST three initiated members (students or Horsemen), to a max of five members. They may go anywhere in the Human World using the portal catacombs in the Lair. These catacombs lead to small human world towns only. All players must follow these steps to successfully create a blight and then harvest the Fear from the starvation, death and paranoia that results in it.

gaia_crown [ Step 1: ]

- You must first create a parasite, something from the Human world that you will infect with Fear so that it mutates to do as intended: destroying crops. Make sure your parasite is not too powerful: some clan members fail entirely at this stage because they lack subtlety. It is not about instantly destroying a victim but gathering as much Fear from them before they die. Setting is key.
- Have one team member/ the leading member/ first person who posts, choose a parasite for your team (ie: rats, crows, locusts are fairly common, or you can try some more exotic options like crocodiles, etc etc, but also remember HUMAN WORLD LOCATION is key for what kinds of parasites). Now all team members will roll ONCE as directed below, imbuing the creature with a little bit of their Fear/ redirecting their Fear to the creature
- Rp out all results as usual

Roll a 6-sided dice: Famine members can roll 1d4 (4-sided dice) instead. This determines your Fear imbued amount that you give to the chosen parasite. After ALL team members have rolled, add up all the dice roll amounts, add the modifiers below, and THEN match to results:
- If you have 3 members you have a +6 modifier
- If you have 4 members you have a +3 modifier
- If you have 5 members you have a +0 modifier

Results (after adding EVERYONE's dice rolls and adding the modifier):

0 - 5: You have a LEVEL 4 creature. It practically wipes the board
6 - 10: You have a LEVEL 3 creature. It is rather powerful, and destroys crops rather easily
11 - 15: You have a LEVEL 2 creature. It is decent, and will do its job, with a moderate amount of Fear concentration.
16+: Your creature has EXPLODED FROM TOO MUCH FEAR. :T You end up with a backup Famine locust that the clan has given you for emergency use in case you fail. It kind of sucks and you feel miserable and sad and disappoint.

gaia_crown [ Step 2: ]

Now it is time to release your creature out into the crops! It is working! The crops are turning a sickly, mottled colour. However, the humans are freaking out and trying to destroy your creature! This is where you must intervene.

Roll 2d6-sided dice: Famine clan members can get a natural +2 attack modifier to their creature/parasite. You need to roll three times.
- The FIRST dice roll determines the attack of your creature, the SECOND 2d6 the attack of the human. You need to help by making your creature strong too!
- If your creature is level one, you get no attack modifier
- If your creature is level two, you get a +1 attack modifier
- If your creature is level three, you get a +2 attack modifier
- If your creature is level four, you get a +3 attack modifier
- IF your creature's final attack including modifier is WEAKER than the human's rolled attack power, your PARASITE/creature DIES.
- Label at the bottom of your post in OOC quotes SUCCESS if your creature defeated the human or FAILURE if they were killed instead. Now it is time to tally results for the ENTIRE TEAM.
- Add a + 2 modifier for each team member on your team (so instead of 0-3, it would be 2- 5)

LESS THAN 2 creature deaths: It's okay you're doing fine! You manage to gain +3 Fear Points for EVERYBODY on your team!
3- 5 creature deaths: Well, you've seen better, your blight will continue to grow thankfully. You manage to gain +2 Fear points for everybody on your team!
6- 8 creature deaths: You've seen better days but it could be worse. You might spread a tiny amount of Fear. +1 Fear points
9+ creature deaths: All your creatures die, or are soon finished off. Weak. You get no Fear points :T

Eisheth just finished her work in experimental room, as she usually did those days. For a brief moment the alchemist regretted remembering those calm days before hunters invasion, when the reserve was almost completed, and she had almost nothing to do; now Eisheth spent hours and hours in laboratory conducting minipet experiments, merging their Fear particles together and working on some new potions when she had free time. She was tired, and seriously lacked some sleep, but wasn't that what she anticipated?

She should have use those free hours now to get some rest, but her head was full of thoughts and ideas: overexcited mind of her needed no rest. However, a little distraction, a change of activity certainly would be great. Lost in her thoughts, Eisheth came to the portals room, nodding to one of the Famine soldiers on guard. Perhaps... perhaps, it might be a neat idea to take a short trip to the Human world?... The alchemist needed some new Fear, anyway, since their last raid happened quite a while ago, and although she knew her work is useful, she couldn't help feeling she's wasting her time sitting here. Some fresh air, fresh Fear, a little raid... yes. That's what she needs.

..and also, if she needs any excuse for that, that would be a perfect chance to test her new baby, the result of her weekly work: a tiny minipet-based scorpion. Eisheth caressed the insect sitting comfortably on her palm: it looked like a normal scorpion from the Human world, may be just a little bit bigger, but on the contrary to normal scorpions, those could be imbued with pure Fear energy, and would be perfect to destroy crops in the human settlement.

Eris was restless.

These days though, it wasn't that unusual for Eris to be restless. It had never been all that unusual, if she were perfectly honest with herself; the spitfire Protector had never been what anyone would have considered 'calm,' her volatile attitude leaving her susceptible to bouts of boredom in addition to rage. She was a rather social creature as well, preferring the company of others to any time spent by herself, where she could ruminate over terrible, awful things like the torture and destruction of a certain Master Hunter, which only left her more prone to an irritable moon when she remembered her little daydreams weren't real. No, sitting alone, by herself, was not a good state for War's Protector to be in, and lately, with her fellow Protectors busy with the duties of their own clans, she had been doing more and more of just that.

Well not today. Today she was going to have some fun. Today she was going to destroy something, preferably at the hands of an uncontrollable inferno.

Seated delicately on a well-placed rock in the portal room, Eris was pondering over where she should go and what she should destroy and how slowly she wanted the human's deaths to be when Eisheth slid into the portal room unexpectedly, effectively drawing her attention. It was a member of the Famine clan, although she did not recognize her immediately; Famine was the clan she was least familiar with, actually, only knowing a small handful of the survivors from her dear Cym's domain. She did, however recognize the marks of a Famine horseman, the protruding rib cage being the most prominent, the flowing nomadic garb. In her hand, a small scorpion too caught her eye, and War's Protector cocked her head a little to the side as she admired it, for the moment silent as she took in this new addition to the room.

Why was she here, the Protector wondered. And then, because she found no reason not to, she smiled, speaking out her from across the room.

"Alchemist," she hailed the other horsewoman, straightening with a sudden interest, curiosity lacing her tone, "Where are you going?"

Tagging along the Famine alchemist quite suited Heidla's gloom. Crap, it wasn't working the right way with her. She always felt she was missing something, and that made her sulk even more than usual. The priestess pouted: as if it mattered. Still, she had nothing better to do - nothing to do at all, and if all the paths lead to the same end (there, she grinned in annoyance: the old formula fits as usual, but that was the worst of it, there was too much irony and ambivalence in this ever-fitting way) then why should she take a decision? That was her form of all too late rebellion against the non-existent structure. She won't do anything, won't make a step, won't... arghhh, again.... she kept talking silently to herself, and all of a sudden the ever-pleasing companionship was getting awkward....

So, what was it about? Ah yep, the Famine alchemist. Familiar red rags, - Heidla recognized the pattern, after all, she was so un-Deathly artistically sensitive - another gasp of annoyance! Definitely, it was one of those worst days when the priestess was just in too bad a mood to be alone, so she just followed familiar figure.

Her pursuit of a change in her demeanour led her to the portal's room. What the Jack this Famine wench wants here, Heidla thought, don't tell me we are going to....

"Yo, Famine", she called out sullenly. "Any plans for today?"

It's not that a Death priestess actually needed company, it's just that.... well, she shouldn't explain it, should she?

She eyed the room and then suddenly froze as she caught a glimpse of the War Heir. Being annoyed with a Famine alchemist was one thing, being uncough in front of a Heir was another. She bowed courteously recognizing the presence of a superior: "Your Highness".

Sometimes Eisheth had a feeling the new Lair was a living creature with its own ears and eyes, and it was constantly following everything that happened inside. Or was it restless Medea's will watching them and reading their thoughts? Just a minute ago she was hesitating about entering the portal, and now she had a company. Were other horsemen here actually working, doing something useful, or was she the only idiot not to slack off? Rhetoric question probably.

The alchemist nodded her head bowing a little, as she noticed Heidla and the War protector. "My ladies, I'm looking for some advice. Have you ever thought what are the powers - and the arts - of our former clans? I know we have to stay united, but that doesn't mean we forget of who were are, and the variety of what we are would only be helpful these days. I know Death teaches all paths lead to the same end", she nodded to Heidla. "And humans should be taught to give up trying, since the end is similar no matter how hard they try. But I also know humans tend to value their lives, habits, values, actually, and if you carefully emphasize their differences, their quarrels, you can set a fire of War", she bowed to Eris. "And the Famine, - our Queen taught us we can make humans feel fear for their lives, fear to loose their possessions, their food, and - ultimately - their lives as well. So, I've spent the last week in a research, and now I can proudly present the result", with these words the alchemist stretched our her hand with a scorpion sitting on her palm.

"Let me demonstrate how it works", she murmured and closed her eyes imbuing the insect with her own Fear energy: just a bit of it, spending countless hours working with the creature she finally learned how to prevent the beast from exploding with the Fear, it was so easy to overdo it!

The alchemist opened her eyes smiling and watching over her audience reaction.

Salbei was off doing general Salbei-things (which generally included lounging around, being nosey to other people's progress, and going out to see who he could impose upon to make new friends) when he came across a small gaggle of females. One he recognized immediately as one of his own; he had never formally spoken with her past small greetings, but he knew who she was regardless. The Heir was of course a staple figure in their lives, but the Death Clanswoman escaped him.

Three women, none of whom he knew well past their names and titles.

Delighted at the prospect of meeting these lovely Mares, the Sage lingered nearby and politely watched the demonstration he wasn't officially a part of. He was proud that his clanspeople hadn't been slacking in their duties, and this particular parasite seemed fairly new - not that he had been entirely caught up on the advances made while he was in a Lair, during the Isle's fall.

"Fascinating! Very well done, my dear." Salbei announced his presence officially, bone feet clinking softly as he made his way over to happily invite himself into their little group. "Pardon my intrusion--" He said belately, his various trinkets clinking and chiming happily as he leaned into a bow. "--My name is Salbei, and if it isn't too much trouble I would like to join you lovely Ladies~" The Famine Sage may have invited himself into the circle, but he was a polite Stallion at heart, and quite okay with being invited out if they so wished.

The sound of another voice, sullen in a way that caught her attention more than a normal tone would have, drew Eris' eyes away from the Famine alchemist, molten amber shifting almost liquidly to the door of the portal room to where another, darker female stood. Although she was still unable to identify the individual on a more personal level, this one was far more familiar to her than the last; she was a member of Death, Aisa's clan, and by the sheer association with the raven-haired Protector, it drew her heartstrings, tugging on them in a different way than it did the Famine member. Not stronger, per se, just different. Each member of the Lost Clans played the strings differently, until the entire clan made ever fiber of her being sing like a harp. War was such a social domain, but it's Protector felt ties even stronger than most of her clan, emotions running deep to create deep surges of empathy.

She loved them. All of them.

Smirking broadly at the respectful hail from the Death horseman, Eris inclined her head with equal respect, dipping it neatly. "Priestess," she greeted the Death member with a wave of her hand, dismissing the formalities. They were appreciated, but once beyond the initial greeting, tended to impede conversation; she preferred each of them to speak freely. Especially since the two seemed to know each other. This in itself coaxed an amused expression from her, intrigue lacing her eyes; she encouraged intercommunication between the Clans, mostly because she adored her fellow Protectors so much, she wished her own clan would experience the sweetness of knowing those outside their own. It seemed other clans were doing the same.

Shifting her attention back to Eisheth as she spoke, War's Protector cocked her head to the side as she listened politely, watching as the other explained her theories and the variations between their former Clans. "Death has always been different, the last of the apocalypses," she spoke up at a break in the Alchemist's speech, ruminating on what she had said, "In a way, Death has always been both the ultimate and the enemy of the apocalypse: in death, there is no war, no famine, no conquest. Really, Death doesn't need us, since all humans die, in the end. We merely expedite the process."

She said this with no malice or judgement, merely interest. She loved Aisa far too much to create such a void between their Clans. And she knew Death's Protector loved her just the same.

But then Eisheth produced her little insect, and all contemplative thoughts on their clans differences vanished. Instead, her eyes alighted with delight smile curling the corners of her lips again. "Oooh~ What a pretty thing. May I touch it?" she crooned, leaning forward a little off her rock-seat. The insect, however, had seemed to gather more attention than that which was within the room. At the door, again came a voice, this time far more upbeat than the sullen one which had come from the Priestess, and the member of War once again lifted her eyes, this time a little irritably. All these interruptions, and this time she had been eager to investigate the creature which was still placed upon the Alchemist's hand. But whatever irritation she had been feeling melted quickly away as the horseman, Famine this time, spoke, his words dripping effortlessly, sweetly off his tongue like honey.

His effortless, almost debonair courtesy soothed her irritation like a balm.

"Salbei, how charming~" Eris purred, clearly approving of his smooth demeanor, "Please, join us. Or, should our other two conversationalists decline, join me at least."

The alchemist was happy. It is always nice, of course, to have your hard work appreciated, but the word of acceptance from the Protector (whom she handed the insect to) and the Sage were truly valuable.

She bowed to Salbei, as he entered their little conversation, and quickly examined him with a brief glance. Tall, thin, very pale, - she was absolutely sure she had seen him hundreds of times, probably in Alchemy laboratories and the Crops room, but never actually spoke to him before. Though, just by the ornament of his clothes, and the manner of his speech she could recognize the Sage immediately. A living Sage! And such a beautiful one... That's a salvation for her. That's exactly whom she needed to ask all her question, and help to clear her mind a bit. But... later. Now they have a business to do.

"My ladies...", she bowed again to Eris and Heidla. "Salbei", she nodded to him as well, trying to hide her nervousness. "My friends, I would appreciate any kind of help, and kind of advice. If you don't mind wasting a bit of your precious time to test it out, I would first ask you to imbue this creature with your own Fear energy to make it stronger. But please, be careful, it's very fragile".
