Synopsis

For years, the Jini-misemi have invoked the laws of the spirits, fitting them to their needs so that the tyranny of their rulers might continue. They cite ill omens, misfortune, and crimes against nature to banish those who break their laws, and lions and lionesses and even innocent children have been thrown from the lands, their blood outcast for generations. And why? Where is their proof that these individuals are as ill-fated as they claim? What misfortunes have fallen upon them, save those inflicted by the pride itself? The Izindigisho have been wronged, and it's time to set it right.

This pride is the result of one family's bitterness and ambitions. Sahauliwa, a son of the exiled King Jhonki-sahna and his Consort, Be-khatra, believes that the swamp should have been his to rule, and would have been, if his jealous aunt hadn't gone digging up his mother's past to expose her as hybrid-blooded. The wronged Consort has stood firmly behind her son, reinforcing his convictions; being forced back into the life of a rogue has never sat well with her. Beside Sahauliwa is his mate, Dikaion, and together they have raised their daughter, Sahib-e-Adalat, in the belief that she is meant for greatness.

Together, they aim to search out their fellow exiles and convince them to band together and form a coalition under the adolescent's leadership. Other exiles will not provide sufficient numbers for what they intend, however, and so they seek any and all allies, whatever their motivations may be for throwing in their lot with the Izindigisho.

Beliefs

The Izindigisho are atheistic, rejecting not only the notion of spirits, but of gods and all religion. While they acknowledge that beings who refer to themselves as 'gods' exist, and that they are powerful, they do not regard them as especially significant. If they are anything, it's bothersome and unnatural: they have no right to manipulate the world as they do, and upset the natural order of things.

The exiles also look scornfully upon seers, believing them to be untrustworthy at best and liars at their worst. They will not tolerate them in their ranks, and will expel them from the pride if they are discovered. It is possible for a seer to exist in the pride, but they must keep their gift hidden from everyone.

Lions, as the strongest creatures there are, are held to be superior to all others, although lion hybrids may find a place in the pride if they can prove their worth. Though it is not forbidden, it is considered strange for a lion to choose to lie with a cheetah or leopard, and any cubs born to such unions will have to work twice as hard to earn their place in the pride. All mating arrangements within the pride are acceptable, as are rogue breedings (just not with anyone from the Jini-misemi!).

Territory

For now, the pride has no territory. Instead, they roam the lands looking for new members and possible alliances.

Ranks

Ilungelo (Right)
The leader of the exiles, the one with the blood-right to lead them. To be the Ilungelo, one must be of royal blood (from the line of the first and current Ilungelo, Sahib-e-Adalat), and must challenge the sitting Ilungelo to earn their place. Whether it is a fight to yield or to the death depends on the whims of the individuals involved.

Isingani (Darling)
The mate of the Ilungelo, ideally an arranged marriage with a royal-blooded or high-ranking member of another pride. Because they come by their rank not on individual merit, but based solely on their blood, their title is intended as a bit of a joke.

Umzalwana (Brother), pl Abazalwana
Default rank for male pridemembers. Rather than having specific ranks for every task, like hunter, babysitter, or warrior, everyone falls under the default rank. They are free to specialize, but gain no specific title.

Isisitela (Sister), pl Amasisitela
Default rank for female pridemembers. Rather than having specific ranks for every task, like huntress, nanny, or warrior, everyone falls under the default rank. They are free to specialize, but gain no specific title.

Plots and Openings

The Izindigisho are in their very beginning stages, and as such, there's a fair amount of room for changes and additions to pride beliefs/structures. As far as recruitment goes, they'll take almost anyone willing to convert to their cause. All strong lions and lion-hybrids are welcome in the pride, whether their strength is physical or something more intellectual. The exiles can find a use for almost everyone.

They also need allies! They are in particular need of one especially solid alliance that will be cemented with an arranged marriage. The male must be a lion or fertile lion-hybrid (if the latter, there must be proof of this - as in, he needs to have some spawn already!), and doesn't need to be the same age as Ada - if he's younger, the marriage obviously wouldn't take place until he came of age. Info: Jura is a go-getter who means well, but has a tendency to be a little self-righteous. Once he finds a cause to champion, he is pursues it without regard to niceties or consequences. He is very often a bull-in-the-china-closet, physically, politically, and socially. He's a little oblivous - you've really gotta spell things out for him to get it through that thick mane of his. However, to his peers and those he admires, he is obedient and loyal to a fault. Jura doesn't question orders - he follows them, strongly believing in 'the greater good' with a naivete that years as a wandering rogue has failed to shed.

Imriy Hayyim (eloquent life)

Info: Though not an outcast, Imriy has never been a lion that has fit in anywhere. He's a lion with a large, muscled frame and a social awkwardness that tends to take the form of a cold shoulder and a not-so-nice attitude. He'd been wandering with a feeling of being hopelessly and forever alone when he stumbled upon the band of exiles and, feeling empathetic towards their cause, decided to join up.

Info: Born a Scion in the Jini-misemi, Liwa and the rest of their siblings lost their rank and home when their family was exiled. The result is a bitterly unhappy lion with a very serious grudge, and who will do whatever necessary to see it through. Mate to Dikaion, father of Sahib-e-Adalat.

Info: Easily frustrated, though also a bit of a quitter. Za'nyunyu likes to think he is a nice guy who would do the right thing, and would be easily manipulated into taking the Izindigisho's side. Loyal and reliable, he's content with doing what is asked of him. He has a very strange avian companion, Mkichaa, who is in love with him. Though Zao does not reciprocate the sentiment, he tolerates her when she's not being too crazy about it and finds some uses in having a bird devoted to him, and holds on hope that one day she will give up on this madness.

Info: Be-khat's hybrid blood is the reason for her family's exile, but she places none of the blame on her own shoulders. Rather, she hates her sister-in-law for exposing her, along with the rest of that family. She has separated from her mate, the former king Jhonki-sahna, who wants nothing to do with this assembly of exiles.

Info: Asyria grew up in a broken family in the sense that her mother surrendered to illness when she was very young. As a result of this, her father raised her to be self sufficient as soon as it was plausible. Even as a cub she was encouraged to branch out and explore, find her own paws and develop her own ways of getting what she wanted. This wasn't to say that he didn't stay nearby, but he was quick to depart to perform his duties when she was old enough to stand on her own four paws. As such, Asyria has been on her own since she was a juvenile with no real direction in her life. Raised with a strong sense of justice, and having developed a firm belief in what's right and wrong, she may not have an immediate purpose in the roguelands at this precise moment in time, but she would very quickly come round to the Izindigisho. If they had been spurned for no real reason by individuals with no legitimate proof, then she would definitely be quick to jump to their aid.

Akipenda (if she loves)

Info: Tough with eyes of steel; quiet and easily manipulated. Aki specializes in hunting, but the lions from the north are also great warriors. After the A'M disbanded, she left the mountains, bitter and confused. With no place to fit in, the Izindigisho would have no problem recruiting her. And with no outlet for her skills (or frustrations with how things ended in her old pride), they would also have no problem getting her to take their side. All Akipenda wants is a home and something to believe in and, separated from her old pride and family, the exiles offer it all.

Admittedly her father is a Seer, she herself lacks the ability, but she is aware of his and while she doesn't understand it, she doesn't regard it with disdain either. She wouldn't be as hostile or suspicious towards any that might appear, but she wouldn't be one to marvel either!

Immediate Skills: She's mostly muscle and strategy, she'd make for a horrible babysitter or diplomat as she has terrible soft skills. *Grin*
