User ImageSolvslips was sore a bit around the paws. Some subs were just irredeemable and required a great deal of disciplinary reminders. It didn't reflect well on Slips and his brothers that they had such a hopeless sub in their bunch, but they were training her. When they were done, she would be perfect. And then Slips would grow bored with her and move on.

"Captain," he greeted a dark lion with brilliant eyes. "I've not seen you around the pride much lately. Have you been out with your band recently?"

Despite himself, Slips had found that he was curious about the goings-on surrounding the warlord and his family, particularly now that the warlord had seemingly exiled his pet captain. What would happen now? A captain might know more about it than a reaver like Slips. Even a captain who seemed to have been absent recently.

I figured I'd set this before the challenge between Aesir and Njal.

To be perfectly honest, Rå'styrke knew very little about the frustration that subs might cause their unwitting dominants. Personally he was of the opinion that everyone was submissive insofar as he was concerned, save the warlord and perhaps a small handful of other captains who had earned his silent, unspoken respect. It was not that Rå looked down his nose at everyone so much as that he did not deign to look at anyone. Most lions were unaware of his presence half the time, a situation he was rather fond of if he were forced to admit to it, but they never forgot him and they certainly never questioned him. He was large and formidable, an intimidating force when he could be roused into a challenge, but it was likelier than not that once a challenge came that did unseat him, he would adjust accordingly. He had enough thralls and wherewithal to be perfectly content retiring before he would take orders from a lion he had little respect for.

Solvslips Grei was not a male he had much of an opinion on one way or another, as yet, but he was aware of the grey lion's existence. Rå was not, however, expecting to be addressed. After a few words spoken by the other, he at last moved his golden eyes to look at the reaver. His expression gave away little more than alert attention, "I have."

He was not exactly sure if Slips had wanted a confirmation or an explanation, but he offered only the former as he slowed his steps and offered a grumbling, barely enunciated, "We do not sow." An explanation if there ever was to be one.

"Indeed we do not," Slips agreed. "It is why we are the dominant pride in these parts."

When he was younger Slips might have been the sort of lion to feel challenged by Ra'styrke's strong and silent thing, feeling that it was too much like his own demeanor and would create a glut of such lions in the pride. But now that he was older, more mature, Slips knew that he and Ra appealed to different demographics and there was no need for them to compete. That meant they could get along, Slips supposed.

"My brothers say there's something going on, something Erling is planning, something to do with why Brynja declared it the season of the changing winds, and not the high priestess. Interesting, no?"

Ordinarily, Slips was entirely too cool and suave and sexy to pay attention to gossip, but pride-wide things like this couldn't be ignored. It was good business.

Rå'styrke grunted by way of agreement, golden eyes swinging around them to take in their surroundings until he deemed this interlude might take longer than he originally thought. He let his hind legs fold beneath him until his rump hit the dirt, opting for comfort as opposed to standing around.

He did not intentionally mean to have a "thing," nor was he convinced that he intimidated half the pride itself. So long as he was given the respect he deemed due him, he had little concern for the general consensus on his character. Besides, if the pride were so easily intimidated he would not have stuck around. He was also possibly not even aware that had the two males possessed similar personalities there may have been cause to challenge, but he was generally oblivious.

Just as he was oblivious to this pride gossip Slips was inquiring after. Rå's brow quirked almost imperceptibly as he absorbed the information, rolling it over in his mind before stowing it away, but he had not thought any of this information worth attaching meaning to. This brief conversation shined a new light on the rumor, and he was forced to reconsider its connotations. Without any real opinion on the issue, he settled for a vague, "Very interesting. And left it at that for the time being. Apparently he had been spending too much time raiding and not enough with an ear to pride politics.

Slips also sat down, refusing to be in the position of standing while another was at his ease. He was one of those devilishly handsome dominants whose very breathing could get a woman all hot and bothered, and not a few men, although he had no fondness for that sex. As he sat his muscles rippled beneath his dark hide, putting on a display that made it evident he worked out a lot, though perhaps he didn't do much fighting.

"Yes," Slips agreed, reminded by the captain's minimalist response that he, himself, was babbling. Slips was a pulchritudinous puzzle wrapped in a manly mystery, and babbling was not his thing.

He stared at the captain with dashing dark grey eyes, demonstrating that he was not cowed by the older, larger, and more important lion. He was cool and calm and endlessly patient, except for when he was dealing with disobedient subs, at which point he was always quick to remind them of their failures.

"All the captains will be affected," he observed.

Despite his intermittent attendance to pride affairs of late, Rå'styrke was aware of the reputation and identity of the lion he spoke with now. It was a bit of a surprise that Rå had managed to even sire a daughter considering his general lack of interest for anything outside of raiding, but he did enjoy a roll and tussle with the occasional freeborn or thrall. So far as Slips was concerned, Rå could see the appeal if he cared to look for it. He could also see the lack of scars, and that he did notice with a bit of a frown.

His expression twitched slightly at Slips agreement, knowing the exact moment that the other male realized he was talking perhaps overmuch. Babbling worked to loosen the lips of other reavers, Rå knew, so he did not blame the other lion for his freely spent words.

Rå may have been intrigued by Slips lifestyle if he knew the full breadth and details. Currently, the dark lion was distracted by this apparent gossip he had missed out on. He was confident he would hear the entirety of it if he stuck around, but he was not exactly about to ask outright for the low-down on the situation. "What affects the captains, affects the pride." Conversation was, after all, not one of the captain's strengths.

"To an extent," Slips agreed. He wasn't quite comparing word counts in his head, but he was definitely conscious of the fact that he was not the more silent and stoic of the lions involved in this conversation, and that knowledge made him uncomfortable. He was really used to being the strong and silent and broodily handsome one pretty much everywhere he went. Except when he was with his brothers, of course. They were all about equally strong, silent, and broodily handsome.

"Given how Erling feels about female reavers, I think there will be more changes there."

Slips didn't realize that his assumption that Erling was the lion behind Njal's politicking and campaigning was incredibly perceptive. He was basically made out of perceptiveness, except when he was ignoring people who were beneath his notice, which was just about everyone, and so it was second nature to him to know things others didn't and couldn't possibly know. It added to his air of mystery. He liked it. Even though he was no more aware he was mysterious than he was aware of his innate sexiness.

The golden-eyed lion stared at the other male for a few moments longer, taking in this information as well. Female reavers already held a tentative place in the pride given the necessity for them to consistently prove their worth. Many of them did it well, his daughter among them, but he also knew that regardless there were lions in Myrsky Syntynyt that would rather they remain Freeborn, at home. Rå personally had nothing against female reavers, so long as they stayed out of his way, which is daughter tended to do. If the females were killed abroad while raiding, it was a sad moment for their potential offspring but a glorious way to die, after all.

If Erling intended to forbade their existence through the warlord's decree, Rå knew he would have an unhappy offspring snapping at his heels. He resolved to avoid her until it all blew over, for her sake and his sanity, lest he knock a few teeth out of her pretty head when her aggravation got a bit too persistent. He inclined his head slightly to one side as he observed Slips, "Do we believe this will come to pass?"

There were always rumors that came and went amongst a pride, Rå was not familiar enough with gossip to know when rumors rang true enough for due consideration.

Slips was beginning to realize that he was not going to learn much that was new and of interest from the captain. Ordinarily when someone was proving taciturn and uncommunicative he could rape them into talking, but that really wouldn't work in this situation. Since his usual methods of interrogation were out, and Slips didn't care that much, he supposed this was an unnecessary conversation. And Slips didn't have unnecessary conversations. Every word he spoke was a sizzling, sexually-charged soundbite of banter that showed how manly and desirable he was.

"Aesir is a strong fighter," he replied cryptically. He was good at cryptic. And innuendo. He was very good at innuendo. Like last night, when he'd told his sub, You've misbehaved very badly and now I am going to punish you by spanking you and then proceeded to do just that. Innuendo was awesome.

"And I must go now. Do not die in bed." He was abrupt because it left people wondering what they'd done wrong to offend him or bore him. It was always best to keep people guessing. Though none of this was on purpose, of course. Slips was just naturally terse and enigmatic.

And at that, Rå was amused. The cryptic impasse was startling enough that he found he could barely refrain the delicate twitch of his lips in what might have been a glimmer of a threat of a smile. He supposed that regardless of Slips opinion on Aesir's fighting ability, it was evident that Rå should prepare for change. Gods, he hated change. That notion dashed any hope of amusement at their exchange, but Slips was already taking his leave and was making it evident he did not give a wildebeest fart about the dark lion's response.

Taking the farewell at face value, Rå merely grunted a response rather than waste more words as he heaved his bulk back onto his feet once more. His tail swung out and his ears flickered as he continued on towards the direction he had taken before the interlude. He was wondering if a raid was as good an idea as it sounded. He supposed things needed looking after within the pridelands, but battle was calling him and so long as change was coming, he would really prefer to meet it later.
