Annchen Assuming this takes place after the warlord challenge, just not mentioning how it ends. XD Life was calming down again. He'd come back from his recent viking trip with his first thrall in tow. Had seen that she was given to someone who'd treat her well and had settled in. Then there had been the chalenge that had set the pride in a small uproar. Bousvor shook his head. What was done was done. He needed to rest up today so he could face an askoruns that came in tomorrow.
The tawny male stretched himself out in the sun. The warmth on his hide lulled him into a doze. Perhaps he would ask one of the thralls to fetch him dinner this time. He enjoyed the physical activity of hunting for his own meals. Rarely calling on thralls himself, he felt them more a luxury than a right. A little pampering tonight and he'd fight all the better tomorrow.

Bifrost was taking a break from the usual gossip at the moment. The winds of change had been really dramatic this time around, and the entire pride sizzled with lovely, juicy DRAMA. He loved it. But that didn't mean he couldn't neglect his other duties. His brother Torbjörn might try to claim that Bifrost didn't really have "duties", but keeping up with the happenings of the pride was hard work. You couldn't just listen to the obvious gossip, you had to keep sharp and alert for the unexpected. And... Who was he kidding, he just wanted to take a walk. Hmmm... The reaver Bousvor was resting over there. He'd heard some impressive stories about him, but all were annoyingly vague. Bifrost had heard that since joining them, the male had only lost one single Askorun. All reavers had bad days sometimes, but some seemed utterly worthless at guarding the borders. It sounded impressive, and Bifrost decided to take the opportunity to hear about what the Reaver had been up to lately from the best source available. "One day I'll kill you," he said with a friendly grin.

He had been having a good doze when a voice interupted. Bousvor cracked his eyes a little. It had taken some getting use to, but he now knew those words were not a threat or promise but a greeting. His nap would have to wait it seemed. He recognized the blue lion with the rainbow tail as one that had walked in front of him during the warlord challenge. Oh brother.
"Not today," he rumbled, more than tempted to close his eyes again. He didn't recall this particular lion among the reavers. So what did he want. Silently Bousvor watched and waited for him to state his business.

With greetings out of the way, Bifrost settled near the reaver in the sun, without waiting for an invitation. It didn't occur to him that Bousvor might not know that he was a bard. Clearly even an outlander must know about his songs and stories? He might technically be of the same rank as any freeborn, but being a bard was so much more. It was an exclusive club, and he expected everyone to know of him, and preferably adore or worship him. "So..." he started, "I've heard you've got quite the track record with your Askoruns." He made his best 'good listener' face. Usually that was all it would take to get a reaver to start bragging about their magnificent deeds.

Bousvor wasn't a lion possessive about his space. He usually didn't mind if someone came and laid nearby without asking if they wanted to lay there. It was all the same to him, but they usually didn't speak to him either. The tawny male twitched his ear as the other lion spoke about the recent Askoruns.
He had a track record? How that was related to the challenges Bousvor wasn't quite sure, but didn't comment on it. He stared at the blue sky pondering. That hadn't been a question, so an answer didn't appear required. Then he happened to glance at the lion beside him and saw the expectant expression. It seemed odd to ask about Askoruns if this male wanted him to get something on a Viking. He shifted his hindquarters slightly.
"No." At least he didn't think it was any record. Those rogues just hadn't been ready yet.

No? What did he mean with that? Bifrost was confused, but it only lasted for a moment. The silent stoic type, huh? Perhaps one of those reavers who were good at cracking skulls but not as eloquent with actual words. "You are Bousvor the reaver, right?" he said. He couldn't be mistaken, unless Bousvor happened to have an identical twin, and he would have heard about that. "I heard you've won all your Askorun's, except one." Perhaps he shouldn't have added that last part. Some reavers could get grumpy if you implied that they weren't infallible in combat. There was an expression that you weren't a real reaver until you've lost an askorun, but that really made no sense at all. Bifrost assumed it had been invented by a sore loser.

The male nodded slightly to confirm his name. That was no secret. He was a bit surprised that this lion knew that fact. So again he gave a slight nod. There was no question about that. Bousvor had turned away a number of rogues, before one had bested him. Barely. Still he was able to admit defeat gracefully.
"You ask. Why?" He was curiuos now why this lion had brought it up. To him, Askoruns were a normal part of the job. Just like thralls hunted or took care of cubs. They didn't get any recognition for how much prey they brought back, or the number of cubs they cared for. Thus he didn't expect any praise for a job simply well done. Now perhaps if it had been above and beyond, then maybe a little acknowledgement wouldn't hurt.

Well, at least it was something. He secretly wondered if the reaver was capable of stringing together more than two words in a row. Most reavers were easy sources for gossip, especially when they got to brag about their own deeds, but this was like trying to squeeze blood from a rock. "I'm a bard," Bifrost said with his most winning smile, "It's my business to know." He could just let Bousvor be, but it was a matter of pride. He should be able to get something from this. "Why don't you tell me about your latest viking?"

He calmly watched the other male as his information was accepted. It would have made more sense to him if this lion had come with a request for him to find something outside the pride's lands. Instead it appeared he had come seeking something else. A bard. Well that sort of explained it. Bousvor blinked.
He stared blankly at Bifrost for several long minutes. His mind spinning in circles. What did he want to know about his last viking. Surely that was a normal thing for reavers. They had gone out, gathering prey and supplies, and some had gotten trinkets, oh and he'd found that wild dog that decided to join. What part did he want to know about?
"It was peaceful." Stupid? Quite likely perhaps. Bousvor could only reason that this lion was gathering information from all the reavers on that band.

Peaceful? Well, that didn't sound very exciting at all. How on earth was he going to be able to work with peaceful? No one would take him seriously if he started singing about raids where nothing happened. He knew that the raid party hadn't come back empty handed, and unless they'd found animals and trinkets lying around, something must have happened. "Uh, wow, that sounds boring," he said, "Did you bring in any loot?" There was a slim possibility that Bousvor was a crap reaver and that he'd managed to go on a raid doing nothing, but it didn't fit with what Bifrost had heard.

Annchen Lmao poor Bifrost! Want to wrap it up with your post? Bousvor gave a slight smile as the other thought the viking might have been boring. They certainly weren't that! "Purr-hap you come along someday?" The tawny lion thought it would be amusing to have the bard along to see just how much went into a viking. However if he went along wouldn't that then make him a reaver?
Sadly he shook his head. "Usual stuff, food." Since he didn't consider the wild dog he'd brought back as a thrall loot, Bousvor didn't count her. Perhaps others didn't see the thralls as living creatures, but he did. It didn't take much to imagine those same creatures rising up against the way they were treated.

magnadearel We can fade to black there, unless you want to hear some gossip wink Look at that, an entire sentence! And oh, they brought back food. This was hopeless... If someone asked him to sing about Bousvor he'd have to decline or make something up, because this was pathetic. The offer to go on a raid was tempting... Firsthand experience and all that. But on the other paw... He might miss valuable gossip at home. "Maybe someday," he said. He was done. Bifrost could probably get some additional information if he spent the rest of the day interrogating the reaver, but he didn't feel like it. "Did you hear about Aesir's daughter?" he said, eyes gleaming, "The one who was pregnant." The other lion apparently didn't speak much, but Bifrost could easily talk for two. He figured this conversation would be much less frustrating if he just did the talking and stopped trying to get anything in return. "Died in childbirth," he said after a short dramatic pause, "It was grisly to see, all that blood!" Much better. He had many juicy stories to tell, and he'd gladly do it all morning.
