This is an animation which is based on a myth, Mother Butterfly, from the Miao people in China.
Na-yi was a Miao little girl. She liked the myths her grandmother told her.
Jian zhi is a traditional style of paper-cutting in Miao culture. Na-yi always went to a big maple forest in her village and cut paper there.
One day, Na-yi's grandmother cut 12 characters which were came from a very old myth and gave Na-yi those paper cut-outs. Na-yi loved them very much.
But what she didn't know was that her grandmother's scissors could bring some magic power to those paper cut-outs.
And now, Na-yi's village was badly effected by a drought. Na-yi and her friend, Du-la, tried to find a way to save their village but they fell down into a big hole under an old maple tree by accident.
And they found out that there was an other world inside the hole. They were about to start an exciting adventure.
