User ImageDaffyd was not drawn to the Stormborn because he was interested in glory and loot and battle, although those things were certainly his due. He was mostly interested in them because he had heard they kept slaves and that as long as a lion wasn't a slave, he could do whatever he wanted. Or, for that matter, not do anything at all and have all his needs tended by slaves and all his wishes fulfilled by them. It sounded like an ideal existence to him, despite the perpetual dampness of the pride's location. He would probably spend a full season sneezing, he supposed.

He roared as loudly as he could once he reached a point where it became impossible to deny he was on the territory of some pride or another. He expected it was the Stormborn, but even if it wasn't, Daffyd felt prepared to handle whatever creature responded to his challenge. He had always been a good fighter, even though he was an indifferent hunter at best and a miserable people person.

User ImageThe creature that responded to Daffyd's roar was not the kindest of creatures, nor the gentlest. In fact, many of the thralls in the pride had come to despise the lion that rose to meet Daffyd's challenge - and for good reason.

Kjar was not a kind lion.

Had Daffyd been of the fairer sex, well. Suffice it to say that Daffyd's masculine gender was a fortuitous thing. Kjar had never - and would never - mount a male. In truth, he found such things revolting, and could not tolerate the fairy-blooded males who sought the company of other males.

With a horrific grin on his face, Kjar drew up to the outlander, claws at the ready.

"Do you come to fight your way into the Stormborn, then, cub?"

Daffyd didn't know anything about his opponent, but quite frankly he wouldn't have cared even if he did know that Kjar was known in the pride as the thrallbreaker, or just the breaker. Daffyd was no thrall. He was a lion who took what he wanted, whether or not it already belonged to somebody else. At least as long as it was less work for him to do it that way.

"'Cub'?" Daffyd repeated, content to let himself get riled by the other lion's insult. "We'll see who's a cub once I've finished wiping the sand with your tawny hide."

He grinned and flexed his claws. The lion before him was one of the largest he had ever seen, but that didn't deter him in the least. Daffyd's father had been bigger than him, too, and older and more experienced. Daffyd had killed him easily. If he had to, he would kill this lion, too. Actually, he didn't know he had to do that. It was too late to ask now.

Kjar let out a hearty laugh at the other lion's response, maw opening with a toothy smile. Perhaps if this lion won his rights to the pride, they might be friends - for the dark-maned lion that stood before him reminded Kjar just a bit of himself in his younger days.

"Come on then, whelp," Kjar taunted, scooping a pawful of dirt up, promptly throwing the dry gritty substance in the other lion's face, "show me what you've got." Kjar had always been something of a dirty fighter, willing and eager to use anything at his disposal to win - no matter the cost. If the dirt made contact with the other male's eyes, it would open up an attack of opportunity.

An attack that Kjar would not hesitate to take.

Daffyd ignored the thrown dirt. He had traveled through deserts and swamps and all sorts of terrain in between. Having a bit of debris in his eyes didn't mean he couldn't fight. It was a dirty trick though (ha ha, joke?) and it told Daffyd a bit about his opponent. Namely that the lion he was fighting was a d**k and a cheater. Daffyd didn't get along well with other males, anyway.

"Pfaugh!" he exclaimed, diving forward through the grit and dirt to launch himself at the other lion. He wasn't going to give up his opportunity to seize the initiative just because he was fighting a lion who didn't fight fair. Fairness was a luxury Daffyd didn't care much for or about.

He dove right for Kjar's paws, deciding that it might end the fight quickly if he managed to maim his opponent.

Kjar grumped quietly under his breath, slightly annoyed that the dirt hadn't blinded the other lion. He was hit with the sudden thought that perhaps this fight wasn't going to go as planned, and that this male would, indeed, wipe the sand with his tawny hide.

It wasn't a thought that Kjar wanted to dwell on, but he was rather caught up in his thoughts. So caught up, he was, that he didn't exactly pay attention to the other male - and so when Daffyd tackled Kjar's feet, well.

He went down like a ton of ******** lashed out with his claws, hoping against hope that he might sink into an especially meaty bit of his opponent's body.

"That's right, b***h," Daffyd taunted. "Eat dirt."

He hadn't gotten to ruin Kjar's paws, of course, but he'd still knocked him over like some top-heavy giraffe. That had been fun right up until the opponent's unfortunately unmangled claws sank into his flesh and tore small deep gouges there. He didn't enjoy that at all, but he still thought he was in the better position.

He ripped free of Kjar's claws and spun, lashing out with his own claws and aiming for the tawny lion's face, particularly his eyes. His mane might protect him, of course, but if Daffyd was lucky it wouldn't. Or if nothing else it would force him to back up a bit so Daffyd would have space for another powerful attack.

Kjar grunted at the taunt, teeth baring as the other lion pulled away from his claws. It had been satisfying while it had lasted, the sink and pull of his claws against Daffyd's moving body.

That satisfaction was eradicated when his opponent's paw caught him across the face, and for a long moment Kjar was seeing stars. Thankfully, his eyes were unharmed but the same couldn't be said for the bridge of his nose - sharp gashes now split the sandy fur, slowly weeping blood.

Exhaling harshly, Kjar flew at the other lion indiscriminately, claws and teeth bared and flashing. He was angry now, not thinking with a cool head.

"Hah!" Daffyd couldn't help exclaiming. "Take that!"

Daffyd's head was never quite cool, but at the same time he wasn't in as foul a temper as Kjar, which meant that he might have some slight advantage over Kjar's furious attacks. It was harder to predict his opponent's movements, but many of Daffyd's opponents were enraged by the time they actually came to blows with him, so he was used to fighting people in Kjar's mood.

He tucked his chin to his chest and flattened his ears against his skull, narrowing his eyes against the battery of Kjar's fury. Meanwhile he charged the tawny lion, hoping to knock him off his feet once again. This time he would pin him down and lay into him until he surrendered.

It truly was one of the most embarrassing moments of his life. The series of events that led to Kjar getting his a** kicked were not pretty or eloquent, but he'd been acting out of anger as opposed to thinking with tact and strategy. Usually his size was off-putting enough that he never had to worry about lions taunting him - it wasn't something that he was used to dealing with, and it had been his downfall.

A thorough beating later, Kjar admitted defeat. All in all, it was an honor to welcome such a mindful warrior to the pride - on the other hand, it was still really embarrassing.

"I yield."

He didn't sound too happy about it.

"You have won your way into the pride."

He didn't sound happy about that either.

"Now get off me."

Daffyd offered Kjar an unconvincing smile and stepped away from the ruddy-maned lion. "Certainly."

So, that was that. He had made it into the pride. Excellent. The smirk which accompanied this realization was genuine, but it wasn't anything like pleasant, as smirks so rarely are. It was just the smug expression of a lion who knows he will never have to do a day's work again in his life.

"So when do I get my slave?"
PostPosted: Mon Nov 26, 2012 12:34 pm

Kjar ignored the question for as long as he possibly could, brows furrowing as he contemplated a response.

"You catch your own," Kjar certainly wasn't going to give the smug b*****d one, "and we do not call them slaves, they are thralls here."

He snorted.

"Find a Lawspeaker, acquaint yourself with our traditions."

That being said, Kjar strode off, hoping that the other lion didn't follow. His pride needed nursing, and he was intent on finding a freeborn healer to tend to the wounds across his nose.
