since my laptop is like 4 years old and has been going through power cords like nobody's business. After the third one I just let it stay dead. gonk It's a desktop with slightly better specs than my laptop, but a quad core with 8gigs of ram instead of dual with 4. So it should be plenty for what I do.

Why desktop? They are dumb. Everyone I know has a laptop now (or maybe even an ipad/tablet and/or a smartphone/iphone) except my dad.
And my stupid friend Richard got an old desktop to which is dumb. Having a laptop is like a necessity for a college student. And you can bring it with you easily to places, like on trips. It's great to bring my laptop when I go to my parents house, since I always like to use only MY computer and not like have to leave my desktop at home and have to use someone else's.

Well my dad does have a laptop but it's old, but he uses the big desktop in the computer room at my parents house when he needs to which isn't often. It's like the main house computer since all the resources and files, office supplies, printers, etc are in there. I think only dad uses it unless one of my mom's friends wants to use it, since mom obviously doesn't use it anymore since she got a laptop many months ago and a stupid smartphone where she thinks it's a tiny computer. (EXAMPLE: MOM LETS GO [in the car]. MOM: Wait a sec, let me check my grades and facebook.) Seriously? It's supposed to be a freaken phone.
My dad also has a thing against new windows operating systems. He said he will continue using WINDOWS XP unless they extremely force him to change it.

Desktop computers are nice because they don't experience as much wear and tear as a laptop. They can also run heavier games a lot faster and smoother. Plus, you don't have to worry about that whole charger cord thing all the time falling out of the side of your computer whilst you are trying to play the sims 3, darnit!

Yeah right. Everyone knows the future of computers are ipads and smartphones.
Desktop computers also don't have overheating issues where they turn off when they get too hot. I HATE MY COMPUTER FOR THAT!!!!!!!!!!!! If it get too hot and I do like too much stuff or like intense stuff like wathing youtube videos or google maps street view or something intense, it randomly turns off. Soo stupid. I hate that. crying
