[HH 1v1] Testing out the Big Guns (Melvin & Shun)

Melvin had only been in the haunted house once to save Ofelia when the techs noticed she wasn't returning. He had fought some sort of wolf but it had long since been near death and vanished. Since then, he hadn't returned. There was no reason for him to spend time risking his life while he could otherwise keep it safe.

But with recent worries, he knew it was best he relied on himself and with his new promotion, he felt stronger. Mustering up what courage he had, he went into the foreboding house to see how strong he really was.

The place brought back horrible memories of when he was in a abandoned house when he was 12, and he kept pausing to take breathes and calm his shaking hands. Saliva was speaking to him to calm him, and he only managed to walk with the barest level of composure as he stepped into a side room for another breather.

Here the air seemed cold and it stung his lungs before he started to feel numb all over. It was strange, but he also felt calmer now as he detached from his childhood worries.

One moment, he was on campus heading towards town, the next Shun found himself in the Haunted House. Times like these were always a little annoying, but there was little that could be done about them. He had been here enough to know what was likely going to happen, as well as what needed to be done if he wanted to get out of here.

Grimacing, he summoned his daggers as a precaution, then began to look around. It was cold in here, in a strange sort of way. There was a sort of detachment to this area, but he paid it little mind. If anything, it meant that he could focus more on fighting.

The Reaper began to stealthily move on through the room, seeking out signs of life. If there was an enemy in here, which was a likely option, he wanted to make sure that he was the one to have the upper hand.

Breathe in.....breath out....

He almost expected to see his breath in this room, and he wished for a thicker jacket, but the numbing chill was helping him from feeling faint.

Saliva was clutched in his hands and his artifact handkerchief was in his pocket.

You feel heavier.

That just means you need to get stronger arms, twiggy.

He scanned the room, spotting a dark figure from the corner of his eye and turning just in time to raise his weapon. The fact the person looked human gave him reason to pause, and he noticed they were holding weapons too - but no jacket.

"Hold it. Who are you?" He barked, not sure if someone had lost their jacket or if this was the enemy.

Shun spotted the other figure before he had barked out a demand to know who he was. He hadn't seen this guy before, but the jacket was more than enough to tell him what he was.

"I don't need to answer that," he said lowly. There was little point in giving his name. Besides, the hunter hadn't given his own first to begin with. He stared down towards the other coldly, taking note of the weapon he had. It looked like some sort of gun. He was going to need to be quick to try and close the gap.

Narrowing his good eye, he let out a slow breath, then suddenly charged right for the hunter. He was monitoring his movements, trying to anticipate when and where he might fire the gun. And while he was trying to close in, he hurled his left dagger out at the man to try and get in the first strike.

Aside from the fact that this fight needed to happen if he wanted to leave the house, all hunters needed to die.

The answer was clear. This was no alley, but an enemy among the many he would have to face in his life - alone.

You can do this, Melvin. We can take him down, together.

We'll have to - I don't have anyone else watching my back right now.

As the other one raced to him to attack, he watched how fast he really was, and turned but not in time. He was cut on the side and he felt the daggers scrape against this shield. Just as the other tried to dodge, he fired and sent a shot of energy his way.

"Guess I don't." He retorted and tried to get some distance away from him.

Shun didn't resummon his dagger right away, seeing how he had the one in his right hand still. As expected, the hunter was trying to back away. After all, with a ranged weapon like that, it would be within his best interests to keep his distance. Or try to.

When the shot came at him, he shifted to the side, managing to avoid a heavier hit. The blast was still fairly solid over all, however.

Picking up some speed, he lashed out with his remaining dagger, aiming to cut deeply across the hunter's belly.

It was time to test out how strong he was or could be, and the slash across his stomach showed him how much he could take in one blow. Though he felt tired and strained, he didn't seem to register the shock of being cut or the pain as much has he might have, and continued to move forward, trying to gain some distance.

As he did, he took the handkerchief and pressed it at his stomach before tying it to secure his sweater. As he did, he felt more solid and aimed again before firing. "Cute dagger." He breathed out.

Shun narrowed his eye as he saw the hunter take out what looked like a hankerchief to press against his stomach and tying it to himself. He wasn't sure the purpose of that, but he didn't have much time to speculate as the hunter fired at him, landing a decent shot. As for the comment, he said nothing in return. Most likely he was trying to goad the reaper. But he was going to keep a cool head here. He had nothing against this particular hunter personally. This simply what must be done. And if he could somehow manage to kill him? Well it was better for himself and for Halloween.

Recalling his other dagger, he simply continued his assault. Moving to remain close, he aimed to slice into his right leg. Maybe he could slow him down a little.

Dagger soon became daggerS, and Melvin took that as a quiet response that yes, he could be cute. Really cute, and Melvin narrowed his eyes. One blade had been a bad enough problem, but two coupled with how fast this guy could move was a serious problem. His gun was only good if he could hide behind something and shoot. As it was, the other danced beside him and hit, but not as hard as he thought.

Moving, he aimed again and fired, trying to line up the sight.

Shun didn't have a heightened sense of smell like Mitsu did, but he soon noticed a different scent entering the air after his last strike. It was kind of salty. And rather.. fishy. And it seemed to be coming from the hunter.

...

It was best to not question these things.

Hissing as he took another hit, he just slashed upwards before the man could back away too far from his reach.

The slash hit, and he knew he wasn't going to get much room here. It was just shooting and hoping a inch would let him angle his gun enough to hit. The close range usually terrified him, but he was coasting on some high that wasn't leaving him shaking in the knees. It made him feel in control and confident.

But not stupid...

I'm ready!

Alright.

He turned the gun on himself, and breathing deep, fired into his chest. The pulse of energy fizzled about his person and he felt a wave of relief.

See. I can look out for ya.

Yeah. Thanks.

He readied his weapon.

At first, Shun wasn't sure what was going on as the Hunter aimed his weapon at himself. It soon became clear as it appeared that he was looking more relieved and refreshed. A heal.

"Che.."

Well then, he was just going to need to undo that if possible. Crouching down, he suddenly vanished, only leaving behind small smokey wisps. A fraction of a second later, he was behind the Hunter, where he stabbed down with both blades just before shadowstepping once again. He reappeared to his side, then to the opposing side. Front. Back. Above. It was a flurry of strikes as he rapidly shadowstepped around the hunter's location, slashing or stabbing each time he reappeared.

Moments later, he stopped and could be found crouching some distance away, controlling his breathing as he stared hard at the hunter.

He'd been right to assume this guy could really kick it into high gear, and just as he surprised him with introducing another dagger, he seemed to really go into overdrive when he saw he was healing. They weren't messing around on both ends, and while Melvin took out all he had in his arsenal, the creature was doing the same.

It was a flick of a second, one where he thought the other had just turned invisible, before he felt the stab of blades attacking his back, then his side, dancing in a storm of sharp pain that sparked against his shield.

But he wasn't done.

While the other wound down and took a moment to breath, the Lifer rose his weapon and shot - retaliating for that little stunt.

Once he had caught his breath, Shun grunted lightly as he was shot again. At least these shots didn't really feel like the one from that alternate world. Actual bullets hurt like hell he found. Even so, these hits were no laughing matter either... not that he laughed ever.

Not wanting to let up on the hunter, he was soon on the move once more. Narrowing in on the man, he slashed once across his torso before following it up with another slash aiming for the throat. Maybe, just maybe he could draw some blood here.

No good. He could barely see now, and he felt the cold sweat of exhaustion start to drip down his spine as he held his sides. He had to leave or else this guy was going to tango with his corpse.

His test was done, and he was looking at the results. Not there yet - he just wasn't there yet.

So easing back, he made a break for it.
