REHOMING CONTEST I've pretty much given up Gaia. But before I leave for good, I'd like to rehome the first SoA I ever had.
Usiku'Ajani, or AJ as I often RPed him as, is up for grabs for anyone who wants to try for him. However, you MUST agree to not change his name, because that's what this contest is all about! So here's how it all works. AJ's name means "Dark Leaf." Your job is to write me a short explanation of how he got this name! It can be in RP format, story format, whatever format you want to do! Some questions to think about: Did he give it to himself? Did his parents give him that name? Why is he a rogue? What's his personality? Dark and leaf kind of contradict. How did these two come together for his name?
CLOSES: Friday 19 @ 4pm CST (Contest is open to everyone) (Newbies and active RPers will get more points during judging)

What's in a Name?
Username: Lollipop x L u x u r y # of SoA owned: Seven. Future plans for him: Weeeellll, I want to plot him coming out of this phase. O uO Maybe find a nice mate or friend that can break through his walls. Also, I hope to custom someone who was present(albeit young) during his birth that he can seek out/run into to find about what had happened. I’m not sure about joining him to a pride just yet… he needs to sort out his problems before joining into a pride. If he does join a pride, it will probably be a rank that involves scouting/hunting, since that’s what he’s best at. I want to edit him with a rather hesitant, sorrowful expression and have a pendant from his mother(or some kind of trinket). Once he’s broken down the barrier a bit, I can see him giving soft smiles and trying to be gentle as possible. Definitely want cubs for him(he may even adopt one, though would think himself terrible for the job). Link to a Recent RP:123 Name Explanation: His name was given to him by his mother, as her last request. His caretaker explained that it had been a stormy night; the winds were howling, rain pouring down upon the Earth, clouds foreboding in the sky. There were complications in the birth and she was only able to bare him. And, as she laid there weakly, cuddling close to her newborn cub, she stared at the tree above her. In a serene, faraway voice, she pointed out how just one leaf, among all the ones that were shaken loose, remained strong upon the limb. ”It’s a dark day… but like that leaf, my child, you will live on strong and resolute. My dear Usiku’Ajani, my hope.” His caretaker would then shake her head a bit sadly at this part of the story, claiming that the lioness had slipped too far away to properly name the cub. AJ, however, grew up cherishing his name.
However, due to residing with only the old caretaker, AJ was forced to grow up quickly. The laughing smiles and playful roughhousing faded into hardened frowns and silent threats. As the caretaker became feebler, AJ took on the role of taking care of her. He hunted, fought off foes, and spent mornings sleeping due to being awake and alert at night. He grew paranoid and stoic, sending out unpleasant vibes to all those who approached. Soon, it became whispered that his name referred to the dark crumbling leaves that have fallen from the trees; that it was a name given to someone without hope. AJ shied away from the claims, holding firm to the tales his deceased caretaker told him about, praying to the gods that his name origin was true. However, after spending so long alone and uninviting, AJ has begun questioning his own resolve.

What's in a Name?
Username: Bloo Starr # of SoA owned: 10 Future plans for him: I plan to find the right pride for him, and get lots of RP (im a heavy Rper) and maybe a mate someday if i win the lovely <3 Link to a Recent RP:[xXx] Name Explanation: AJ wasnt always named Usiku'Ajani. His parents had given him a different name, which was Mnanaa'Moyo, as a cub he had been very heartfelt, and the name he used to have as a cub meant Mint Heart, so at first he felt his name very special. After growing up completly and leaving his parents he doesnt remember now, he started to feel different. He had basically turned dark. He had a bad fight with a lion much stronger with him, and it turned him dark, and he changed his name to what it is now, Dark leaf (usiku'ajani). He had wanted to die, and was asking any god or goddess to give him an answer as to why the strong lion let him live. One day, whilest sleeping in a cave he had made his temporary home, he was dreaming he was walking an astral feild with long, tall grass. It was sunset, and he AJ was scared. He started to run, feeling a bad precence nearing him, chasing him.
After running a while, his knees had given way, and a starnge goddess appeared before him, whispering in his ear why the strang lion he had fought with let him live, and it was beacause she, the goddess speaking with AJ, had been watching over both of them from cub hood, and she knew they were both to have intertwined fates. She had told the other lion to find AJ, so she could finally get in touch with AJ. AJ had begun to have anger boil inside of him, and started to cry at the goddess, telling her all the pain he had been feeling, and blamed it all on her. She had agreed, it was all her fault, and then, AJ had asked her why. She said to him "i do not know..." He got overwhelmed with anger for her, and started running from where they were talking in the astral feild. Aj was then jolted awake from his dream. His sadness, pain, and hate for her never subsided, and he decided he would take this out on anyone he could, it was just easier. He never met anyone, and he was alone. He collected skulls of animals, and drew pictures with his claws, describing the pain he had in his heart. No one ever knew how hurt he was, his life was horrible, and he thought nothing could ever make it better.
"Rusted From The Rain"
I stumble through the wreckage, rusted from the rain There's nothing left to salvage, no-one left to blame Among the broken mirrors, I don't look the same I'm rusted from the rain, I'm rusted from the rain
Dissect me 'til my blood runs down into the drain My bitter heart is pumping oil into my veins I'm nothing but a tin man, don't feel any pain I don't feel any pain, I don't feel any pain, I'm rusted from the rain
Go on... crush me like a flower, rusted from the rain Come on... strip me of my powers, beat me with your chains And if... I'm the King of cowards, you're the Queen of pain I'm rusted from the rain, I'm rusted from the rain
You hung me like a picture, now I'm just a frame I used to be your lap dog, now I'm just a stray Shackled in a graveyard, left here to decay Left here to decay, left here to decay, I'm rusted from the rain
Go on... crush me like a flower, rusted from the rain Come on... strip me of my powers, beat me with your chains And if... I'm the King of cowards, you're the Queen of pain I'm rusted from the rain, I'm rusted from the rain, I'm rusted from the rain

What's in a Name?
Username: pinkdog # of SoA owned: 5 Future plans for him: I'd kind of like to have a mate for him. I'm not sure at this moment if I would prefer to pair him with MY first SoA, a grey rogue named Wabakuli, or if I would prefer to wait and get him someone new and colorful. I'm kind of waffling between the two. Other than that, I think I would like him to take after his father (see below), continue with that legacy somewhere new. Link to a Recent RP: I only RP one of my SoAs right now and my partner whent AWOL, so it's a bit old.. xxxx Name Explanation:When Usiku'Ajani when young, he was part of a family. At that time, AJ was known by a simple name meaning "green spring." Though it was not a pride, it was the three of them, his mafu and payum (as he called him mother and father) and himself, so it was perfect. Sometimes his father would go away for days at a time. As a young cub, AJ didn't think too much about it, because it was all that he knew. All he knew was that while his and his family were on their own most of the time, they always had enough to eat, and once an a while they got something especially good, a treat.
As he grew older, he wanted to spend more time with his father, learn how to hunt. His mother held him back as long as she could, insisting on teaching him to hunt herself. Finally, when he was old enough that she could no longer pacify him, he took after his father when the other went to leave. His father looked at him for a long moment, and Good Spring thought that he would be sent back, but instead his father only told him to be silent and to do everything he was told.
It was that night that Good Spring discovered his father was not just a Rogue; he was a thief. However, he was not just any thief. When his father led him out into the wildness, they ended up at a gathering place, where several other lions waited, more lions than Good Spring had ever seen. They grew quiet when Good Spring's payum approached, and it became obvious that he was the leader of their strange ragtag group. Good Spring discovered that his payum and these other strange Rogues would go out together and raid food from established prides. They never targeted weak or small prides, only large and wealthy ones. They always took just enough to fill the gap in the food they needed for their own families, but couldn't find through hunting. It was through his group that Good Spring finally heard his father's True Name: Usiku'Ajani, or Dark Leaf. He was given this name by the the other Rogues, for his ability to flit through the darkness unseen and unheard, like a leaf drifting in the wind.
However, Good Spring's father and the other Rogues lived a dangerous life in their thievery. Every raid was tempting death. One evening, Good Spring's payum used up the last of his luck, as he was attacked and killed by a lion from one of the prides.
On the day his father died, Good Spring shed his cub name and took the name of his father: Usiku'Ajani.

What's in a Name?
Username: The Captain Britain # of SoA owned: 13 Future plans for him: (You should probably read this after reading the story) After what happened to him, AJ is pretty hesitant about the healing arts. He doesn’t feel like he can do it anymore, nor does he want to try. I want to rebuild that confidence, though I don’t think he’ll ever be comfortable treating major things as he once was. Basic things like scratches and preventing infection in wounds will be all that he’s able to do. That being said, I want him to find a new passion, something else that he really enjoys. Maybe something to play off of his slave work. He’ll find that he actually sort of likes “construction” when he gets to do it on his own time, and not when he’s being forced into it. Sort of a loner now, any mate plots will probably take a while to develop. But if it does happen, AJ will be the most doting father he could possibly be, eventually ending up as a helicopter-parent. He’ll be very protective of his little ones, and stress the importance of loyalty within the family. He still likes the security of a being in a pride, and after some time will definitely be joining another one. Link to a Recent RP:Link, Link, Link Name Explanation:
Deep in the jungles of the plain, sheltered by dense foliage and tall trees, there was a pride. Having a strong connection with nature, these lions were able to live comfortably in the somewhat harsh area around them. Their hunters were adept at finding food, flushing prey out of their hiding spots in large numbers in order to feed the pride. Paths leading to crucial spots in the pride lands were cleared of branches and bushes and rocks, making travel easier. But what truly allowed the pride to survive was their protection against the diseases and poisons present in the jungle: The Ajani clan. A prominent family of healer, the Ajani clan had served the pride as doctors and healers for generations. So extensive was their knowledge of the jungle’s plants and natural remedies that some believed they could talk to the very jungle itself. Without the Ajani clan, the pride members would surely perish within a year or two. But the family taught their young well, passing on their knowledge of remedies and herbs in order to keep the pride happy and healthy. There came a time when the brother of the Ajani patriarch sired a small litter. With no mate for himself, the patriarch named the cubs as his heirs, and that one of them would day take over as head of the clan. The litter of three was named in part for their coats and in part for the future the parents hoped to them to have, as was tradition. The eldest, a large white female, was named Theluji’Ajani, Snow Leaf, for her stark white coat. The middle cub was Angavu’Ajani, Bright Leaf, because although his fur was dark, his mane and eyes promised to be as green and bright as any leaf. The youngest, the runt male of the litter, was dubbed Dogo’Ajani, Small Leaf. As the cubs grew, the time came for them to be apprenticed to other members of the clan. Dogo’Ajani, too weak and scrawny to be anything above an average healer, remained with his father to learn. Theluji’Ajani was given to the patriarch’s wife for study, for the young female showed much promise in learning the ways of a mid-wife. And so the patriarch took Angavu’Ajani was his own apprentice, a sign of the adolescent’s potential future of leadership. Angavu’Ajani learned quickly, easily memorizing and identifying the plants of their trade and the recipes needed for remedies. The young male showed so much promise and skill that the patriarch decided to have him start practicing on actual patients early. Instead of waiting until he reached adulthood, Angavu’Ajani started helping his mentor with real treatments. For the most part, all went well. The young male made a few mistakes here and there, but this was expected. He worked well under pressure and kept his cool. Confident now that he would be the new leader of the clan, the patriarch decided to have Angavu’Ajani treat a patient sick with Bug-Fever, a terrible illness cause by the sting of a blood-sucking bug, on his own. The patriarch provided the male with the required herbs, and watch as his apprentice attempted to heal the lion. But something went wrong. The lion had a strange reaction after being given the remedy, foaming at the mouth and seizing violently. After a few minutes, the lion died. The Ajani clan had been disgraced. Never before in many generations had they lost a patient. Members of his own family began calling him a different name, Usiku’Ajani, for he was now a stain on the Ajani name, a dark omen that could not be allowed to practice again. The patriarch agreed, punishing him by forcing the male to work alongside the slaves. Where once he was at the top of the pride, Usiku’Ajani was now at the bottom, moving logs and boulders from paths and clearing the way for other healers, his own relatives, when they went out to collect herbs. Usiku’Ajani, once cheerful and full of life, became dull and subdued. His family no longer considered him one of their own. The pride members avoided him like the Bug-Fever he had failed to treat. The slaves he worked with taunted him relentlessly about his lost status. Everyday waking up was a living nightmare. The young male took to wandering about late at night, the only time he could do so without someone giving him a dirty look. It was on one of his night walks that Usiku’Ajani learned the terrible truth. Without meaning to, he stumbled across his uncle, the patriarch, and the leader of the pride hidden behind some bushes. The young male overheard what had really happened to the lion Usiku’Ajani had accidentally killed. He was filled with horror as he listened to the two laugh about their success, how easy it was to have switched an herb out for another, resulting in a poison rather than a remedy, and how the king’s line was finally secure now that his illegitimate son was dead. Usiku’Ajani reeled back, unable to believe that his uncle had used him as such. But the young male wasn’t careful where he stepped, and soon drew the attention of the Ajani patriarch and the King. The king ordered the patriarch to kill Usiku’Ajani, for they couldn’t let him live now that he knew the truth. The young male ran, his uncle hot on his tail. But weeks of suffering the heavy labour that was required of the slaves had made Usiku’Ajani strong, stronger than his uncle. He easily outran the older lion, reaching the pride border and crossing over it without a glance backwards. When he finally stopped to catch his breath, Usiku’Ajani let himself look back at his former home. His uncle stood there, bright yellow eyes flashing in fury. His claws were out and unsheathed, a snarl written across his face. The warning wasn’t spoken, but it was clear all the same: If Usiku’Ajani ever returned, he would be killed. The young male turned away, expecting to feel great despair and sadness. But instead, he felt relief. He had the chance to start over again, the chance for a whole new identity. His name though, his name he would keep. It would be a reminder of the past, a way to make sure he never forgot. But his name didn’t need to have the same awful connotation. No longer was he a dark leaf, an ill omen, a plague to be avoided. Now he was simply no more special than a leaf wandering about in the night, being pushed wherever the wind saw fit.
((Sorry, it ended up not being all that short. sweatdrop))

Oh my gosh, you guys made it so hard to choose! It really did end up coming down to the wire. I only wish I had more SoA to give away to all of you! But in the end I did have to choose someone. And the winner is....

I loved the originality of his backstory. A pride based around healers, really cool! He's now yours to do with as you please, though I do ask that if you ever leave Gaia yourself to please rehome him again instead of letting him collect dust!
AJ's colorist is Ameh. Let me know when you post for his re-certing and I'll approve it.
