[pretty banner] We DO need an overall pride name... I may go with Mwangikati, a portmanteau of the three faction names... Taking opinions on that one! heart I also need two co-owners - One for the Mwanga, and one for the Giza! smile IC Owners: X (Mwanga Side), Y (Giza Side), Z (Katikati) OOC Owners: Andranis, X, and Y Cert Symbols: Mwanga Side Giza Side KatikatiCert Background: Oh HI there!Basic concept:We all love comic and movie heroes, and watching Megamind actually spawned this. Yes, this is based on the dynamics of the good vs. evil seen so prevelantly in comic books and the like. This isn't just Marvel and/or DC, this is ALL heroes and villains with any kind of comic basis - The Incredibles, Megamind, Green Hornet, ALL of them! Because yes, I am that much of a comic nerd to come up with this! Accepted species: ALL the species!

[territory maps/description]
Location: This is being determined - Somewhere in a valley, though! I'd be happy to take suggestions of where they are!
Territory description: The whole of the three prides reside along a vast valley, with the Katikati pride being in the valley, while the Mwanga are in the mountains and hills of the [direction] side of the valley, and the Giza on the other side. While the hills tend to be somewhat lush like the valley below, game is not nearly as plentiful, so the Mwanga accept donations from the Katikati now and then to suppliment their diet as thanks for protection from the Giza, who tend to steal not only kills but even cubs from the Katikati.

History
Like all good stories, it began with siblings, in this case two brothers and a sister.
Many generations ago, more than any living animal can count back(Even the elephants), a lioness gave birth to three cubs - Two boys, Mwanga the white and Giza the black, and one girl, Katikati the gray. She loved her children all equally, showing no favoritism to any of them, and teaching them all to be strong young lions, for they'd been born with no father. The only help she had was a dear old friend, a hyena who was several shades of gray. For many years, they lived peacefully, and her children each took a mate, making the lioness, now old in age and body, very happy. The valley they lived in began to flourish with life, as other lions and hyenas began to join, drawn to this place of so much love that knew no boundaries.
The first signs of trouble came, though, when the old lioness died. The brothers began to argue over how to honor her memory, for they all saw her as Mother Patron of the multi-species pride. Giza wished to create an effigy of her image, while Mwanga simply wanted to have her memory live on through stories of her good deeds to the pride. Katikati simply stood back, letting her brothers bicker it out.
Things only began to devolve from there, as a plague struck the pride that knew no species. Mwanga, now old in age, blamed Giza for bringing the ire of the gods with his loose ways, while Giza blamed Mwanga for the plague because he let anybody and everybody join, regardless of background, instead of testing newcomers' strengths. Once again, Katikati sat the argument out on the blame game...
The arguments finally came to a head as cubs, pups, chicks, and other young were dying faster than new ones were being born, as well as older animals beginning to die. Mwanga believed in petitioning help from the gods, to find a blessing for their pride to stave off the illness, while Giza believed they should begin stealing young from other prides. Katikati finally stepped in, declaring that she'd rather see the pride wait the plague out - Animals were beginning to heal from it, recovering functions lost to the plague, and a few healthy litters HAD been born. While her brothers were shocked at her finally stepping forward to voice her oppinion, the bickering continued, finally ending as the three siblings, angry at one another, split ways. The pride split with them, some following Mwanga, others Giza, and the rest following Katikati.
For a long time, the three prides existed in the same valley, sharing the same name, but Mwanga's and Giza's seemed to grow slower than Katikati's. After several generations, a descendant of Katikati stepped forward to talk to the descendants of Mwanga and Giza about the situation of crowding. Instead of peace like Katikati's descendant wanted, war errupted.... Or as close as could be described. The descendants of the followers of Giza, having taken his name as their pride name, began attacking the pride who'd come to call themselves Katikati after the sister. They stole cubs, bolstering their numbers, as well as food to feed their now-growing numbers. The Mwanga, having managed to do the same and taking the white brother's name, began to fight the Giza, trying to steal cubs back to return to their parents. The Katikati, seeing this selfless action, for their acts gained them nothing but injuries and casualties, took heart and offered cubs to the pride to raise with such ideals.
The numbers of all three prides began to shift for several generations more, as the Mwanga grew in numbers between breedings and the cubs sent by the Katikati, while the Katikati's numbers fluctuated greatly between offering cubs to the Mwanga and the Giza stealing cubs.
And then another plague came, sweeping down through the valley on a dark wind one night. The Katikati, somehow, were spared, while the Mwanga and Giza suffered many casualties. The Giza fled up into the hills, while the Katikati, though thankful for the protection the Mwanga had given them, encouraged them to go up into the hills on the other side of the valley. Here the Mwanga and Giza recovered, soon beginning to flourish again. But both sides realized they couldn't continue as they had before. They couldn't march whole armies against each other, and the Mwanga couldn't keep protecting the Katikati with an army while also defending their new-found territory from the Giza, just as the Giza couldn't rely upon numbers to gain cubs and extra kills.
The Giza turned to covert operations, with some members elaborately distracting the Katikati with their antics as the more sneaky members stole from the Katikati. The Mwanga didn't like this and began to send animals to intercept and fight the Giza on a smaller, less destructive scale. Soon, the Katikati began to call the Mwanga heroes, some even being called super heroes, while the Giza gained the title of villain and super villain. Far more generations than anybody can count have passed now, and the names have stuck. Somewhere in time, the rumor became legend and lore that the Mwanga and Giza were blessed by their respective gods and truly have magic powers, though they have no proof of this. The Katikati, in the mean time, have been referred to by both sides as Norms, though from the Mwanga it's a term of affection, while the Giza use it with ire.
So, little traveler, which path will you folow? Are you a Mwanga Hero, Giza Villain, or Katikati Citizen?

[Religion, beliefs, and basic laws]
Religions
The Katikati are the most private about what gods they worship, finding it a very personal matter with a golden law of respecting each other's beliefs. A lion does not have to LIKE who their neighbor worships, but they cannot resort to violence, verbal or physical, over their differences. General worship, though, tends to lean more toward 'neutral domain' gods, with everybody sharing a common worship of Peace and Pacifism jointly. (The Katikati are not particularly inclined to war and violence, preferring to keep their heads down and their own business their own, while everyone else's business is no place for them to encroach upon)
The Giza tend to worship the the Goddess of Villains, Goddess of Thieves, her father Chaos, and other associated 'negative domain' gods.
The Mwanga tend to lean more toward Heroes, Justice, Honor, and other 'positive domain' gods.
Basic beliefs
Shared
1. Species is not a problem! Anybody can join any of the three pride factions!
2. Yes, breeding between species is okay(Within reason). They do feel a little odd about something like feline/canine or one of the two former with a hyena or something, but it's not generally punished, just... Looked at funny.
3. ***** is a huge no-no. Yes, this even goes for the Giza, the 'evil' guys. There is a line even THEY won't cross, and an adult having a relationship with a cub or juvenile is one of them.
4. Rogue breeding is okay! This goes for all pride factions! In the end, it's also up to the parents as to what will happen with the cubs or pups - The Giza may be more touchy about some cubs going with Dad if he's not in the pride, but they still leave it up to the parents to decide.
5. This is more OOC, and I know it's not going to be popular with anybody, but it's to avoid OOC conflict more than anything because I know it DOES cause problems for BOTH sides - Homosexual and bisexual animals will be a by application only thing. It's becoming increasingly popular... And that shouldn't be a focus on the pride for it to be as much as 1/4 of the pride. TBD on what the ratio will be, but it WILL be something within reason. I'm going to tentatively say they WILL allow bi- and homosexual animals... But if it starts to become a problem or gets out of control, I'm going to have to bring the original ruling back of per-application.
6. Seers get special treatment, and are especially covetted by all three factions - A seer can help the Katikati avoid conflict with the Giza, or alert the Giza to some new food source the Katikati have found.
Mwanga
1. An animal should always live with honor, be truthful, and always seek to bring justice to the world.
2. Always be the strength for those who have none, the eyes for the blind, the voice for the mute - The Mwanga believe in always helping others who need it, including but not limited to protecting the weak.
3. Brawn isn't a requirement to be a hero, but it doesn't hurt to have some. Minds are valued a bit more, since what is brawn when you're utterly stupid? This is why heroes who favor a balance of brain and brawn tend to become super heros.
4. Everyone has a secret identity, so share it VERY sparsely with only those you TRULY trust (When a Mwanga lion becomes a Katikati, they essentially BECOME their secret identity, such as the Parr family)
5. If you breed with a Giza, you will be treated with suspicion. The Mwanga, while they do mind it, won't punish the offender severely. They will be kept under watch by a bird, to keep an eye on their activities, and encouraged to try and convince their mate to become Mwanga instead of Giza.
Giza
1. What's yours is mine - The Giza have no qualms about theft, and have even had squabbles with each other about who actually has the right to something. (The most entertaining for others to watch are fights over food, and a vulture or raven comes along and filches it from both)
2. Brains are as important as brawn, but if you want to have true power, you have to have both.
3. To arch is an art! Some Giza can become the arch enemy of a Mwanga, for no other reason than they just like to ruffle that particular Mwanga's fur (Example, The Monarch arches on Doctor Venture. It's just kind of his... Thing.)
4. Everyone has a secret identity, so share it VERY sparsely with only those you TRULY trust (Not that Giza animals really trust anyone... There's stories of some who don't even trust THEMSELVES.)
5. NEVER breed with a Mwanga animal! Anybody caught doing so will be beaten within an inch of their lives, then left in an ill-visited part of the valley floor to die alone and broken. To mate with a Mwanga is seen as treason to the Giza way. If it's a female, her cubs will be raised orphans and given no easy life because of their mother's ways, and treated as if they could turn on the Giza at any moment.
Katikati
1. What's yours is mine and mine is yours - Everybody is expected to share and share alike within reason. So if a lone hunter brings down a gnu, it's considered polite to share it with someone else, where as if someone brings down a rabbit or bird, you don't HAVE to share it if you don't want to(It only goes so far, after all).
2. Violence toward others is not tolerated without justification - If no Mwanga is around and a Giza is attacking, then by all means fight! But if it's a fight over a kill or a choice place to sleep, then cut that out before a guard shows up. The Katikati would rather everybody live in peace and harmony than squabble over things that are, in the end, silly to fight over! That said, it IS recognized that sometimes, you just need to argue it out.
3. Respect each other's choices - You may not like who your neighbor worships(As an example, an ex-Firekin worshipping Finar-si having to live within close quarters of an ex-Mistweaver worshipping the God of Storms. The prides may not have historically gotten along, but they're still expected to get along here!), but in the interest of the pride, pretend you don't know who they worship and they don't know who you worship. Past Peace and Pacifism, all other gods worshipped are entirely a private matter!
4. There are no secret identities in Kitakita society - When a Mwanga steps down and retires into Kitakita life, or a Giza steps down and is accepted into Norm society, their secret identity is their ONLY identity.
5. Breeding with Mwanga is perfectly okay! So is rogue breeding! Breeding with a Giza is questioned, but not punished - It's seen as an opportunity to try and reform the Giza animal, either encouraging them to abandon their villainous ways and become a Norm, or to ask acceptance to the Mwanga and earn their way into that faction.
6. Always be willing to share your kill with a Mwanga in need. They protect the Kitakita from the Giza, so it's a fair repayal. On the same paw, be prepared to protect it from a roving Giza.
7. If Mwanga numbers are low, honor is bestowed upon any family willing to offer their cubs and pups up to become heroes. After all, isn't it wonderful to say "My son/daughter is protecting the pride from those deplorable Giza?"
8. Only a lion may be the king or queen - It's literally the only species-specific rank, and it's aimed purely at keeping one family line ruling. That said, the ruler(s) must be fair to all... Even if it means being in a situation where two lionesses are arguing over who mothered a cub, and the king has to say "Cut it in half and each can have half."

[On factions and coats and the like]
Hero/Villain names
Every Hero and Villain has a name that everybody knows them by, such as Superman, Spiderman, Mr. Incredible, Syndrome, Green Goblin, or The Penguin. What your Hero or Villain Name is is entirely up to you, though it needs to keep SOMEWHAT within the shop's rules - Spiderlion or Superlion would be good tweaks of Superman and Spiderman, descriptive names like Mr. Incredible are also pretty good... But something like Silver Surfer may be pushing it, if you get what I mean. (And yes, that means if, say, Megamind showed up, he could have the Villain/Hero name of Megamind! Unfortunately, Metroman or Metrolion wouldn't fly[Bad pun] as there's no way a lion or leopard or what-have-you would know the word 'metro').
Get creative, though! wink Have fun with it!
Changing factions
There are three factions within the grand scheme of the pride - The Mwanga, or the Heroes; The Giza, or the Villains; And the Katikati, or the 'normal citizens'. Animals may switch amid the sides if they choose, though some switches may be easier than others.
To switch from the Katikati to the Mwanga or Giza, an SoA has to complete a set of 4 missions to prove they're up to the tasks of the respective pride faction.
To switch from Mwanga to Giza, they only need to do 3 missions, but to go the other way is incredibly hard. For a Giza animal to become a Mwanga, they need to do 10 missions. Yes, this is on purpose - They need to know they can REALLY trust this animal to NOT turn their back on them.
The easiest faction change is from Mwanga to Katikati, with the retiring hero only needing to get an RP with the ruler of the Katikati.
For now, the whole pride has no allies or enemies, since the Mwanga and Giza tend to be too embroiled in worrying about each other and the Katikati to worry about recruiting others.
Colors
As a whole, the pride really doesn't care much about what color an animal is - An able body is an able body and a baby is a baby, no matter what. But when it gets down to specifics, the Mwanga tend to favor lighter colors, the Giza darker colors, and the Katikati more neutral colors. This isn't to say the Mwanga will turn away a pitch-black animal or the Giza a solid white. They'd still be accepted, it's just not the dominant shade or tint of the pride faction.
Familiars
Generally, all familiars are acceptable. One faction may favor another more than the next, though they ALL value birds due to how they can carry news about happenings in the valley.
The Mwanga tend to favor prey species more, finding their normally-gentle ways noble and majestic.
The Giza tend to favor predatory species like snakes and jackals, finding them far more cunning in mind.
The Katikati tend to favor... Well, nothing. Because they tend toward True Neutral in ALL matters, they don't show favoritism to one species or another as a whole. It is up to the individual animals as to which familiar they like more, with some preferences being a family tradition.

[All the ranks!]
Ranks
Each pride has their own ranks, remember that! In both the Mwanga and Giza, all ranks are gender neutral!
Mwanga
Hero Elite - The leader of the pride, the others turn to them. They are often a retired hero, no longer able to go out and do missions. Instead, they send others out. They must be elected by the pride from amid the Elder Heroes to obtain this rank.
Elder Hero - The retired heroes. One simply has to be REALLY old to be this rank.
Super Hero - These animals have proven their skill and are the elite of the Mwanga. They are the strongest, the fastest, the most skilled... Etc., etc., etc.... To obtain this rank, an animal must go on 6 missions and fight off 5 villains(Bonus points if five of the missions are fighting off villains!)
Oracle Hero - Any Seer in the pride. They are often referred to by their title THEN name, so it'd be something like Oracle Hero Mafa. They sit somewhere between Hero and Super Hero, and are the only members of the pride to not change rank even as they age.
Hero - The default rank of the Mwanga for those joining as adults. These animals do mostly little hero things, like getting cubs out of trees and the like. They also do patrols now and then to make sure all's good. To rise to this rank from Sidekick, the Sidekick must accompany a Super Hero on three missions and fight off three Villain Sidekicks.
Sidekick - The default rank up to adolescent, they're partnered with a Super Hero until they prove their merrit as a hero. All cubs born in the pride hold this rank, though they won't start going on missions until they're juveniles.
Giza
Villain Elite - The leader of the pride, the others turn to them. THey are often a retired villain, no longer able to go out and cause trouble. Instead, they send others out. They must be elected by the pride from amid the Elder villains to obtain this rank.
Elder Villain - The retired villains. One simply has to be REALLY old to be this rank.
Super Villain - These animals have proven their skill and are the elite of the Giza. They are the strongest, the fastest, the most skilled, etc., etc., etc..... To obtain this rank, an animal must go on 6 missions and fight off 5 heros(Bonus points if five of the missions are fighting off heros!)
Oracle Villain - Any Seer in the pride. They are often referred to by their title THEN name, so it'd be something like Oracle Villain Mafa. They sit somewhere between Villain and Super Villain, and are the only members of the pride to not change rank even as they age.
Villain - The default rank of the Giza for those joining as adults. These animals do mostly little villain things, like minor theft of small kills, cubnapping, and the like. They also do patrols now and then so the Giza can have an ear out in case of a prime time for the Super Villains to cause trouble. To rise to this rank from Sidekick, the Sidekick must accompany a Super Villain on three missions and fight off three Hero Sidekicks.
Sidekick - The default rank up to adolescent, they're partnered with a Super Villain until they prove their merrit as a hero. All cubs born in the pride hold this rank, though they won't start going on missions until they're juveniles.
Katikati
King/Queen - The ruling lions(Yes, lions). One OR the other is descended from Katikati, though over countless generations the coloration has fluctuated a lot. Once there was a neon pink king... They lead the pride, often seeking to help maintain the balance.
Heir/ess - The son OR daughter of the king and queen that has shown to be the most neutral and balanced. They are not necissarily the oldest.
Prince/ss - The cub through adolescent children of the king and queen. All cubs of the royal couple are given this title at birth, until they are juveniles and the new heir is chosen. They are raised knowing that the oldest may not become the new leader.
Lord/Lady - Simply the adult siblings of the inheriting king or queen. Their children do not get special titles.
Oracle - Any Seer in the pride. They are often referred to by their title THEN name, so it'd be something like Oracle Mafa.
Captain - Head of the guards, this is a by-application position. Requirements include long service to the king and queen, and being born into the pride(Meaning, the animal doesn't even have to have a grandparent born in the pride, so long as they themselves were born in, they're cool)
Guard - Simply the animals that protect the pride from the minor Villains and various outside threats.
Head Huntress - The female who leads the huntresses
Huntress - The only gender-specific(For lions) rank of the pride, they do the hunting.
Hunter - They do the hunting(This position excludes male lions, who are more encouraged to become guards).
Citizen - A catch-all rank, this covers everything from crafters to bards to artists to traders. This is the default rank of all adolescent and adult animals, both born-in and joining.
Youth - Default rank of all cubs/pups and juveniles

JoiningTo join the Katikati, one simply has to chat with the ruler(Assumed to happen unless you want it to actually ICly happen - Otherwise, you can just apply, then hit up any member for an RP ) To join the Mwanga, a joining member has to do 4 missions, and then rise through the ranks from the lowest up. To join the Giza, a joining member simply has to beat an existing member of the same species in a duel (They may be villains, but they have SOME honor, and pitting a joining cheetah against a lion is NOT a fair fight) Of course, since this is still the IT thread... Fill out one of these forms and chuck it in! smile If you don't have a cert yet for your SoA, you can disregard the part where it says 'cert' wink [align=center][size=20][u][b][color=goldenrod]My heart is pure and just!
