In the hour of your greatest success are sown the seeds of your own destruction.
~ Gypsy Proverb

|| OOC ||
xxx This is only for the current Kizi members! The dreamers are some miles off, perhaps a day or two away.

xxx Any current member can join at any time!

xxx No one knows about the dreamers yet. Seers may have seen visions of a dark cloud coming, but they may be unsure if the dark cloud represents these shady individuals or the ones they're talking about.

xxx Every post in this thread will count for a ticket towards the blank slate dreamer that will be given away at the conclusion of the event. Sadly, yes, this means that she won't be a part of the main meta, but we can say she was late to the party.

xxx There is no posting order, so keep on your toes! We will not hold up for anyone but the key players- who we will harass on aim. XD

xxx If you don't have a kizi lion, you may play a non-lined animal (think of something that would live by the sea! Elephants might not fly...) or a familiar.

xxx If you have won a contest character already, you cannot win another! If you win, we will re-roll.

The sea had grown restless that afternoon as the sun began setting. The tranquil, sunny sky slowly began to darken and the air became thick with the smell of an incoming storm. There was an uneasy feeling in the air as well, almost as if the lands were holding their breath for something.

Shandor stood on the border, troubled by the whispers of the patrons and the royals. There were strangers hanging around the border... strangers came and went, sometimes they stayed, sometimes they vanished, but they never simply lingered. They never came in groups, and it was very rare that his fighters were up in arms over them. Flower-lord had been exceedingly wary. Given the male's nature- that was troubling.

The gypsy king narrowed his eyes as two figures broke from the incoming darkness drifting in from the outskirts. Strange... as most storms rolled in from the sea itself. For once, the outside world was bringing a storm their way rather than them sweeping the rains and thunder out to the rest of the savannah.

The female was small and bore a rather large, rather shiny ring around her upper half. Something in the back of his mind troubled him about it...perhaps he'd seen such an item in his time before the Kizi. A time he could no longer remember- and for the most part never missed. Now, however, it troubled him. It meant something...but he couldn't clear the haze of his memory from that little tidbit of information. The female was small though, certainly not much of a threat. The other, however, was a little on the large side.

Very large.

He stood well above the female and nearly a head above Shandor. He walked with a bit of a limp, likely from a recent injury. There was a warning in his eyes and a sense of purpose to his stride. He, too, bore a golden trinket though it was smaller than his female's. It clasped a dark cloak around him which concealed much of his face and back. It was a tattered, well-worn old thing but it was of a fine fabric. Any gypsy would have traded quite a bit for a scrap that large.

Shandor's eyes narrowed and he drew in a deep breath to fill his chest. Certainly his patrons were nearby... nothing got by them. Especially this strange of a pair. Perhaps they were who had been haunting the border?

"You've come close enough." The gypsy said with a fox's grin. "Further in you come, the harder it is to leave, friends. Tell me..." He took a slow step forward. "What brings you here?"

The cloaked stranger came to a stop and reached a paw out to stop his female companion as well. She had a little more spunk than him and likely wouldn't take the smug expression on the stranger's face too well. Myuto only met it with a slight dip of his head.

"We come bearing no ill will." He said, his voice low, soft, but strangely haunting. "We come with a warning. And a request."

To say Fireheart was on edge was being very generous. Normally the gypsy queen was very level-headed and sure of her step, but the past few weeks had her pacing at night, muttering to herself, and whipping her head around at any noise with her claws out. Something wasn't right. There were whispers and murmurs and seers were speaking of strange things that were coming their way. Of course, she had thought to herself. The moment life seems lovely and calm, things always have a way of messing up.

The animals, both pride members and prey, were restless that morning, and by the afternoon a storm was brewing. Lifting her head into the wind that came in from the land, Fireheart closed her eyes. This was it. It was coming to a head here, and she needed to find out what was happening to her pride. She turned into the storm and began to walk towards the border of the pride that butted into the rouge lands. It hadn't been too long since she had set foot here, welcoming a mother and her daughter into their midst, but this time each step put a heaviness in her stomach that she didn't like.

Fireheart wasn't surprised to find Riddle Mouth there already. The lion had a sense for ill-will, which was why he was the king, she supposed. He knew when trouble was coming and was the one that normally dealt with it. She, however, didn't want him to have to face it alone. This was their pride, after all, and the well being of the members was her responsibility.

Seafoam eyes rested on the two newcomers. One was a small female with an odd hoop around her, the other...well, he was certainly a male, but she was positive he couldn't be a lion. The Kizi were a large breed, but even he stood taller than Riddle Mouth. Was he part elephant? Walking cautiously but with her head held high, Fireheart paused a few paces behind the gypsy king.

She said nothing, though. She had no words for the two that had just arrived. She wanted to watch and wait, to see what would be said.

He stepped out of the trees, having followed Riddle Mouth. Or rather, the direction of his beloved's... Cousin? Aunt? He didn't know what to call the lioness, but Soothsayer had mentioned something about to happen at the border. Green eyes flashed as he glanced at first Riddle Mouth, then Fireheart, before turning on the strangers. "Speak your words... What warning do you bring?" He wasn't going to deny them a request - That part wasn't his place to grant or deny. That was up to the leaders, and he'd gladly leave it to them. Patron General was a high enough rank for the gold-coated lion.

Right behind Flower Lord was Aurora, ever in a foul temper. The fact that even the gold-coated lion was in a bad mood made her more temperamental. On a level of instinct, the cream-coated lioness sank down into the foliage, positioning herself so that, if need be, she could cut off the intruders and wound them. She grinned a bit to herself, before frowning, telling the voice in her mind to be quiet. This was neither the time nor the place for dark thoughts or actions - Not yet. Yellow eyes shifted, watching the three lions already gathered from the pride for any form of signal, just in case she needed to do something for them.

User ImageBackwards wasn't immune to the odd mood the entire pride seemed to be in lately. She liked to pretend otherwise, however. She had met the vague worries about something bad coming with laughs and jokes. Anyone that didn't know her might think she didn't care about anything but having a good time.

Backwards lifted her head as she saw Fireheart walk by in the distance. She knew that look on her sister's face. Without thinking much about it she got to her feet and trotted in the same direction. It was rare that she found a reason to venture out to the border, and it took some effort to stay calm and relaxed. Any tension was hidden beneath a small smile and relaxed demeanor.

She arrived too late to hear the stranger's words, and she came to a stop behind and to the side of her sister, offering a small smile as a silent support.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Things had gotten a tiny bit... tense around kizingo'zaa, to say the very least. Muhali wasn't a tense creature, by any stretch of the word, and despite the fact the mortals around her were on edge, frightened even, the goddess in disguise was anything but. After all, as far as she was concerned, there was very little (if anything at all, bar natural disaster) that could really threaten her or her pride while she was around. Specially not a pair of poor, lonely strangers, or even a group of them hanging around the borders.

She barely used her real powers, and didn't really like to show her strength, but at the end of the day, Insanity feared very, very little. After all, she was well feared in certain corners of the land, where she'd shown her true colors, and as far as she was concerned, these lions were hers. No one was ever going to touch them. At the same time, however, she'd wanted a peaceful, nice life, and a mortal disguise had seemed best. As such... she had no real powerful rank in the pride, and thus, it meant she had no hear or say about these, or any strangers. She did, however, make sure to stay close to the king and queen, laying a tree branch almost lazily, handing just above both their heads as she watched the strangers approach.

A golden, male lion spoke up and Muhali turned her head towards her, "Maybe we should ease up, guys. Relax a touch, aye? They said they bring no ill-will, com'on! Everything'll be all right, you're all so tense..." her head, however, did slide back towards Myuto, and her eyes did narrow with a silent warning the seer might, or might not have understood. She remain calmly laying on her branch, directly over Fireheart and Riddlemouth's heads.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Chicanery wasn't particularly happy to be there. In fact, if anyone had asked the small lioness, she would have pointed out she was particularly unhappy to be there. She'd had a rough enough life to know when people were glaring at her or feeling tense enough to resemble a coiled spring, and she did not like what that bode for her and her traveling companion.

The white pelted male, in particular, the one that had told them not to come closer was making her particularly vexed with the situation. That grin of his ruffled her feathers, and her maw pulled back into a bit of a frown, almost a growl as he spoke. Had Myuto not lifted his paw to stop her, it was quite probable the small lioness might have said a thing or two to him. As it was, however, the large paw pressed to her chest was warning enough for her to huff in annoyance and sit down close to Myuto's side, raising her head and turning it away, clearly upset.

It wasn't until Flower Lord and the strange, blue lioness that was laying on the branch spoke that Chi finally growled, "Please, refrain from such a warm, nice welcome. I don' think I can take this much warm attitude any longer. Don't you all pile up to welcome us or anything," she turned and offered the lions gather a dull, unimpressed, and rather grumpy look, "It's not like we're here to deliver a message that might be good for you to know, or not like we have something to tell you that might concern you in any way. Please, do continue to throw daggers our way," a sigh escaped her maw and just as swiftly as she snapped, she deflated, "Myuto... we shouldn't have come here. Let them deal with it on their own. It's not like they look grateful at all for your help. Let's just keep moving. We'll find somewhere nicer, let's just go."

Dhoru had been returning home from a stroll with Hasi was he heard voices. Well, different voices than usual at any rate. He recognized the tones of some of his pride mates - and they definitely didn't sound happy.

Ears folded back, he trotted toward the voices, arriving just in time to be splashed by sarcasm dripping from a white lioness' words. In spite of the tense demeanor most of his pride mates were displaying, he couldn't help but chuckle. Most rogues that entered the pride's lands weren't quite so hasty to mouth off when a group of the locals showed up. He had to admit, he liked her moxy.

"Sir, if I may?" Dhoru directed his conversation to Shandor. He would usually refer to him as Riddle Mouth, but he doubted that his leader would appreciate another lion offering his name to these strangers. Even his gypsy name. "They seem to genuinely believe they can help us. Shouldn't we at least be polite, and give them the chance to explain themselves?"

Dhoru was no patron; but most of the other lions gathered here were, and he was certain more would be on the way soon with the scent of strangers on the wind. Even through the blanket of anxiety that had covered the pride lately, he didn't think these two meant to cause a threat.

Hana knew that she was likely to get in trouble, but she hadn't been able to help herself. When mother had left the den, so tense and uneasy, she found herself mirroring those emotions. She did not like it when something upset mother - her and father were so strong, anything that could frighten them must be bad. She had to follow her.

She had made sure to stay several tail lengths behind Fireheart as she shadowed her to the border, only just keeping her mother in sight. Hana peeked her head out from behind a tree to find that mother had stopped, and Riddle Mouth was with her. As well as two strangers. Eyes narrowed in suspicion, she searched through all the lessons Percy had taught her.

She studied the strangers' body language - they each seemed a little uneasy, but not overly threatening. But that didn't mean they could be trusted. Opening her mouth, she drew the air over her tongue to catch the strangers' scents. She studied every facet, memorizing their smell. Not that she would have trouble remembering them just from their appearance.

Another scent bathed her tongue, much stronger, and she looked up. Unknowingly, she had taken refuge behind the tree that Muhali was lounging in. Silently, she berated herself for not being more careful - What if that was an enemy? Remember, always be aware of your surroundings! - but Muhali hadn't seemed to notice her.

Just to be safe, she shrunk into a fern growing near the roots of the tree and watched the scene unfold from between its fronds.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Shandor took a short glance behind him as the gypsies emerged. He had once told Ram, the leader of the Bahari, that the gypsies could emerge from the stone itself if they saw it fit. There was always a bit of truth to his statements. At any one time, there could be one set or a dozen set of eyes among the shadows. Some of those eyes were crafty, some were clever, some were quite harmless, and some still were quite mad. Even one of the newest members, the lioness with the odd tail, seemed to slip from the shadows to over-see the confrontation from the comfort of a nearby tree. Pride in his people swelled in his chest and made his smile a little easier to wear.

He nodded a greeting to Fireheart as the young lioness made her dutiful approach and gave her a wink of one of his dark eyes. The situation was under control- for now.

He jerked his chin to Flower-lord as his captain spoke up, asking the same question that had been on the tip of his own tongue. "Yes, do get on with it. We're all ears." He motioned to the pride members around him. For the moment, he ignored Muhali's statement. He wasn't tense. He was never tense. At least not in his mind. The defensive tightness in his shoulders, however, said otherwise.

As the strange female spoke up the male's smile only grew, but his eyes darkened slightly. My she had spirit... a little spitfire with an attitude. He quite liked that. "You'll have to understand, little lady, we are not exactly... the best sorts to bring trouble to. We have every right to be suspicious."

Dhoru spoke up just then, softly and almost sheepishly. Shandor regarded him with a short nod of his head. "It's quite alright. If no harm comes to us, no harm will come to them. Looking back to the strangers, he nodded to the male. "Out with it then."

Myuto's expression darkened. There were so many... but he had half expected that. Ther markers on the border weren't exactly welcoming ones. His visions had included grinning foxes- dozens of them -sliding from the shadows. They must have represented this lot.

The look Shandor threw to Chi, however, was met with a scowl and a defensive step in front of the lioness. He turned his head, just slightly, and met her eyes with his own. "No... we've come this far. We're going to see it out. But stay close."

He looked back to the waiting pride and raised his voice. "I am a fortune-teller from a pride very far from here. A wanderer, a vagabond." He stated simply. "I am Myuto, and this is Chicanery. Again- we mean no harm or ill-will, but the tidings we bring do not bode well."

He looked from one member to the next, letting his words settle before continuing. "A storm is coming, and we had to move quickly to beat it here, just in time to warn you."

He stepped away from Chi and came a little closer to the strangers, his eyes grim. "You have run from the past so long, it seems it's come to find you. You've invited the muses back in without even knowing it. Seems their followers are not too far behind. Brace yourself."

The cream lioness' eyes widened for a moment, before she looked over to the leaders and rank-leading figures. The muses were coming back? She had to admit, she wasn't keen on that. For as volatile as Aurora could be, the insanity that had once been on the land was a bit much for even her own liking. She flexed her claws, digging them slightly into the dirt under them. "Some of us don't WANT the muses back..." Of course, she knew there were those that did. Some lions had left when the muses did, missing their friends and companions that existed in their heads only. Aurora had only seen what she'd called hers the night she'd joined the pride, in what had to be a freak occurrence. The lights had never returned to the sky after that.

Flower Lord spared a glance at the orange-haired lioness. "Storms come whether we want them to or not... All we can do is prepare for them." His gaze then shot to the blue lioness above them. "I'm not tense because of THESE two, it's something ELSE in the air!" Mummers... Really! He looked back to the pair who'd come in. "How CAN we prepare for this coming storm?" He was happy the large lion was holding his companion back. He didn't know if he'd be able to stop Aurora if she pursued the other lioness, or even who would come out victorious. As far as he could tell, they were an even match. But then... Looks could always be deceiving, something gypsies were good at.

From the other direction, someone else stepped from the foliage. Duck had been out looking for this and that to trade, when he'd spied the pair on his way back in. He'd thought nothing of them approaching, figuring they were seeking asylum from something in their past. But when he walked up in time to hear the large male lion's words, the blue-faced lion had to stop and raise his head. "These aren't DANGEROUS followers, are they?" He hoped not - He wasn't much for fighting. He edged around, trying to reach his mother and step-father, but a hard look from the yellow-eyed lioness gave him pause to stand and act as a barrier. He felt something bump his back leg and turned to whisper to it, before he looked back. "I think I came back at a bad time, didn't I...?"

There's no need to be alarmed, scared or feel threatened until someone brings out their claws, aye? Relax. It'll do the situation-" she paused quite noticeably, however, as Myuto spoke up, her head whipping lightning fast towards him, her stance suddenly becoming quite alert.

She did, however, make a show of sluggishly getting up from her laying position on the branch and stretching, before gracefully standing up, "Oh?" she arched a brow at the fortune teller, squinting to look him up and down, and then back up again; he had nothing to gain by telling them this information, and something told her he didn't think he was lying, "You don't say..." she was the creator of the insanity blessing that had once upon a time been cast upon the land, and she had no plans on recasting it, given that the pride seemed well off without. She didn't really think there was another god with power capable of doing that same, exact blessing unless...

Unless Myuto meant her in a roundabout sort of way?

If that was true, then... well, she should probably go check out these 'followers' that were close behind. Something told her it had to do with the group of lions hanging around the border. She dropped from her branch to the ground, easily smaller than most of her peers, landing near enough to Hana that she blinked as she spotted the younger lioness, to whom she offered a wink and a grin, "Well then, they've said their bit and they're hardly threatening us so... let's liven up this party?"

With a blunt stone. This is ridiculous! We should've just avoided this place all together, found a nice, cozy cave to let the storm blow over, instead of this lot," she didn't like any of them, specially not Shandor or the Flower Lord, to whom she shot a glare at before looking away, almost longingly towards the borders.

Asker sat a little bit in front of her sister, closer to his mother with claws unsheathed. Flower Lord was here, as was Riddle Mouth and a few other patrons, but the young male was still feeling protective. Fireheart had learned how to fight from Father, Asker had always wondered how much practice she had. Besides which, that "Myuto" was so very large. He cast a glance back to Hana, green eyes flickering with worry. The anxiety of the pride was getting to him. His face and posture remained calm, but eyes were windows into the soul.
He returned his focus to the strangers, tail twitching back and forth. He and Hana could take the male together, Asker was sure of it. Not that the accompanying female should be underestimated, however. She seemed more hostile than her companion. Or at least more prone to violence. The blue male was willing to bet that she could get a few nasty hits in quite easily. But with the other patrons, they would surely be able to restrain the two strangers if anything turned hostile. Asker let himself relax a little.
And was promptly sent back on the edge. Muses? Muses? Things that whispered to lions in the night, turning them crazy? Asker had heard stories of the muses. They fascinated him the same way tales of monsters fascinated cubs. Asker sent a glare back to Mali, the mummer. How could she be talking about livening up when these strangers were talking about muses? He had been under the impression that the muses had disappeared forever, and that the pride had been better for it. But now they were coming back? It didn't make any sense. How was that even possible? Asker took a few steps towards Fireheart, scowling fiercely. "Mother, I thought the muses were gone." He whispered, brows furrowed. Asker had a feeling that this storm was going to be unlike any they had weathered before.

Dhoru froze as the large stranger - Myuto, he called himself - gave his warning. A brief moment of joy that he might once again be able to speak to his muse was washed away by the grim tone the lion used.

Nema.

The chocolate-colored thief tensed, his ears flattening. He hardly noticed as his claws slipped from their sheaths. Patron or not, he would fight like a God if these 'followers' dared to threaten his home, his pride and especially his mate.

"Don't forget about your expected visitors," Hasi commented. Even she lacked her usual sarcastic, lofty demeanor - a truly morbid sign indeed. However, her reminder only served to fan the fire.

While it was too soon to tell anyone, Nema and Dhoru were fairly certain that they would be parents soon. He hadn't even met them, and already Dhoru loved his cubs fiercely. He narrowed his eyes in determination and turned to Myuto and Chicanery.

"Thank you for your warning," Dhoru growled. In his urgency, he almost had to force himself to be polite. "Have you any idea when we can expect these followers?"
He had heard rumors of a group of lions that seemed content to stay on the pride's outskirts. He only hoped that these were not the followers, for if they were, the pride didn't have much time to prepare for whatever trouble they might bring.

-------

Hana wasn't really sure what the adults were talking about - she had been born after the departure of the muses, and so she didn't know too much about them. Her parents had filled her in on the basics and, honestly, she didn't see too much of an issue with their return. Who cared if lions talked to themselves sometimes? Some of the pride members now did it, and it didn't seem so bad. But, if the older lions were getting flustered about it - especially laid-back Uncle Dhoru - it must be worth it.

She flattened her ears in surprise when Muhali suddenly dropped down in front of her. She tried to shrink further back into the ferns but it was too late; she'd been spotted. She braced herself for the lecture that almost any of the older lions would have sternly given to her, only to be shocked again - albeit pleasantly this time - when Muhali spoke to her.

Why don't I hang around Muhali more often? she thought to herself. She's not half as grouchy as Stormclaw.

Hana pushed her way out of the foliage and sat calmly at Muhali's paws, wrapping her tail around herself. She cocked her head to one side, wondering what the lioness could mean. This seemed to be a rather serious situation, and with the Patron General and both pride leaders in attendance, she was a little anxious.
"What did you have in mind?"

Goofy had been born at the time muses still roamed the lands. Inviting muses back? He couldn't say that he remembered much of the time of muses. He'd been young. But one thing he did know was that they were frowned upon. His own father had been driven away from his family for such a long time during that time of muses.

Something was coming their way or already here. It didn't sit well with Goofy. But the big lion kept his mouth shut and merely listened. The lions tail twitched from side to side.
PostPosted: Wed Jun 26, 2013 1:04 pm

Fireheart heard the rustling of foliage as other lions began to appear behind her. She felt their presence rather than turning to see who was in attendance. She knew the lions of the pride well and, just as she thought, they all began asking questions of their current guests. She didn't blame them, since she was horribly curious herself, but this wasn't a time to speak, it was a time to listen.

She did just that, and her eyes narrowed in distaste at the prophecy. Muses? She had been just a cub when the muses had left, and she didn't care for them much, but she knew the pride was split on the subject. Most of those that had suffered greatly from their missing friends had departed, but a good chunk remained that complained about the 'new ways' the pride seemed to be heading. Now...this would surely drive a wedge between the two thoughts the pride seemed to hold. Wonderful.

An ear turned back as she caught Asker's voice, but she didn't turn to look at him as she replied. "They are gone," she said quietly, not wanting to disrupt anyone around her. And, if she had her way, they would remain gone. She felt that they were a nuisance, distracting lions from what was truly important: keeping the pride strong and safe. Work came before play, and if everyone went back to talking to trees or stroking the grass and laughing with it all day, then they were going to have problems.

The snappy lioness that was with the seer made her snort softly. For someone who was standing in front of a potentially aggressive group of lions, she was certainly running her mouth. Taking a few steps forward to pull even with Riddle Mouth, she eyed Chicanery for a few moments before turning her attention to Myuto.

"A rather foreboding prophecy," she said flatly, no amusement in her voice or on her face. "Tell me, why would you warn us? You have no debt to this pride or connections as far as I'm aware. Simply out of the kindness of your heart?" That, to her, was impossible. She couldn't see a complete stranger caring for a group of lions that he knew nothing of.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.It was like a cold slap to the face. Shandor stood with his jaw tight and his shoulders tense. The muses couldn't return. Over his dead body would they return! They were useless, they were a weakness! They were cruel masters, sirens that turned reasonable lions into dimwits. His had been a tormentor, a cruel voice in the back of his mind that was always there. When he slept, when he woke, when he sat alone- always. It had been a slimy, cruel voice, a doubter, and a creature that had kept him from ever finding happiness. How a positive muse could exist, he had no idea.

He kept his calm outwardly. Inwardly he was screaming, raging, and trying to puzzle out how- just how - the muses could return.

The reaction from his pride members was mixed, but overall they seemed leery. Flowerlord spoke his own feelings quite nicely- some of them didn't want them back. Those that did were likely off pouting in a hole somewhere. The moment they heard this news, he would have another mess on his paws. The mummer's ball was so close too...

Suspicion replaced shock and hardened his eyes. As Fireheart joined him he stood up a little taller. "My niece speaks wisely... why would you warn us? And as the others have asked-", his voice dipped into a growl, "Who are these followers, and when can we expect them?"

Myuto looked over to Chi and gave a short shake of his head. It wasn't worth getting into... and he half suspected she could never bring herself to bring a rock over his head. Still, he well understood her frustration but he was well used to it by now.

"I'm afraid," He looked over to the pride, "Dark tidings run through my blood. I can only issue a warning. It's up to you and your pridemates to figure out a way to deal with it. They may be a day away, they may be a week... but they will come regardless. They seek the mother of their voices, they seek the cradle of the muses, and they will come."

He sighed as the spitfire gypsy queen addressed him. "As I mentioned, we are vagabonds. We have seen a lot of pain, both of us bear the scars from misfortune. One small act of kindness can change fate at the drop of a stone. Kindness changed our bad fortunes, perhaps so we could change the bad fortunes of others."
