Strange things had been happening lately, that much was sure. Strange storms coming in from the mainland, strange lions, strange warnings...it made Fireheart agitated. Her few months at the helm of the pride had found her comfortable at last, with a growing family and a sense of responsibility that she'd never had before...but of course, that all had to get turned on its head. The recent newcomers made her uncomfortable. The lion and lioness duo were welcomed into the pride, if a bit coldly, and things went on as normal as they could. Fireheart had the security of Riddle Mouth and his patrons - two of whom were her own children - to soothe her mind as far as attacks on the prides went, but this...it didn't seem like the time for a physical attack. The Bahari had been a physical threat a few months prior, and while that particular bubble had never burst, she wondered how they could combat a threat that wasn't physical. The muses were to return. How could you fight something in your head? This troubled her greatly. She had never had a muse, since the curse had been lifted when she had been very young, and she didn't want one. Her fur was constantly on end, and it wasn't something she relished. The fact that there was a new member to the pride that she had only heard of in passing from the king also made her agitated. It was that agitation that sent her out in search of the lioness that called this place home many moons ago, and that had returned. It was suspicious at best.

Muhali padded back into the pridal common grounds, emerging from the forest looking both amused and victorious as she did so; there was a hop to her step that was rather unmistakable, but then again, she couldn't really help it. She'd played dirty, yes, but it'd been oh-so worth it just to see the gaping, open mouthed expression on the gypsy king's face as she'd managed to both best him at hide and seek and mock battle. Granted, the poor king lacked wings, not to mention the strength she possessed.
She was, after all, one of the older gods, and the older a god managed to get, the stronger they became. Muhali could barely even remember the last time she had died, and her physical power was great, even if her size looked lacking, for she was just slightly shorter than most females in the pride. The goddess had learned long ago, that mortals were much more at ease around beings smaller than them, and given that her powers allowed her to manipulate her size, not to mention the fact she rather liked spending time among mortals... she'd always preferred a smaller size. Always worked better, all in all.
Her head turned heavenward, her eyes seeking the sun as she squinted, "Hmmm..." she figured she'd have to wait till the following day to check out the trope of mortals near the pridal borders, now that she actually had consent from the king to do so. She rather do it while the sun was brighter, rather than setting, for quite a few reasons. As such, she rolled her shoulders and bounced towards a low, twisted palm tree, quite intent on laying there and basking in the sun's last rays. She was stopped, however, when she noticed Fireheart approaching with a look that meant business. For a moment, the goddess actually looked behind her, and then to the side, almost expecting the Queen to be focusing her attention on someone else, but she wasn't; the queen was heading straight towards her, and she didn't look happy, "What'd I do now?" she wondered out loud.

Fireheart didn't have to search for terribly long, which was good. If she had, she would have been rather short to snap at the lioness that had joined them. What was her name? Mahula or something like that...she had only heard it once when Riddle Mouth had spoken with her very briefly and she had never been very good with names when she didn't have a face or personality to associate with them. Light green eyes focused on the blue figure that emerged from the foliage before her and she lifted her head, signaling that she wasn't planning on just walking by. She headed for the smaller female, paws shifting in the odd mix of sand and dirt that formed where the jungle began to turn into beach. The question made her snort, and she told herself to keep an open mind. This was, after all, someone much older than her that had been around this pride for far longer than she had been. There was some respect due. "Nothing as of yet," she said as she paused a few paces from the blue lioness. "I have not properly welcomed you home, and despite the rather odd activity the past few days, I felt as though now would be a good time to get to know you." That and she had some questions to ask her. It was a mighty convenient time to show up, right before all this foreboding news came to them. Perhaps she could be the reason the trouble was coming? Some scout sent ahead to soften them up and lower their defenses. "Riddle Mouth has told me you're from these lands," she went on, never one to make small talk when it wasn't needed. "And that you've been gone for quite some time, which is true. I have no memory of you," she said, squinting her eyes at the lioness' tail. That was odd... "What is your name?"

Muhali tilted her head to one side, a clear, albeit silent question, given that she had absolutely no idea why she was being approached. After all, she doubted Shandor had had enough time to recover from the shock and spoken to the Queen already. Her ears perked forward as the younger lioness spoke, and the goddess allowed herself to sit down, to show she'd thus, be going nowhere and that she was perfectly fine with having a chat.
Though then again, something told her this was going to be much more of an interrogation than a chat; she'd hoped those would stop, given that she'd already answered every question the King had flung her way. Apparently not though, for the Queen was eyeing with obvious mistrust, "Skittish lot, around you?" she said almost randomly, "One'd think you guys expect some sort of conspiracy or attack on the pride, the way you all act," another tilt of her head, this time the other way, "Didn't use to be this way at all. I keep wondering if something happened while I was gone, aside from the obvious."
She let her words hang in the air before she nodded, "Aye, I hail from these lands. I'm not as old as Misae, but I was a cub around the time she had her first litter. I was one of the first members. We were few back them, when the pride was rebirthed," she took a moment to eye Fireheart up and down and then smile, "Ah, yes, you're younger than I am," and wasn't that the understatement of the century? "Strong leader though, which is nice," her head turned and she lifted a paw to point off into the trees, "I used to be a Story Seeker. Not sure if you know what those are; we no longer have 'em, but... we went around, left the pride, south out stories, information, reported back here and then left again..." her own eyes lowered to her tail, which she curled around her feet before smiling at the queen, "Mali, and my grandmother was a leopon. I believe the tail's from her - I figure I'm a teensy bit leopard, somewhere in there. I only mention 'cause I see you staring."
She wasn't sure if that's how things really worked but... she refused to change her tail into a lioness one; she liked her tail, thank you very much.

Fireheart snorted very softly as the lioness started by asking questions of her own. How like a Kizi, she supposed. Although she bore the title of queen, it was more a formality than anything. There was no pomp and circumstance whenever she walked near other pride members, other than perhaps a little greeting, but that was to be expected of any lion making their way through a crowd of other pride mates. She loved her pride and her people dearly, and could see, at least, that the Kizi confidence hadn't wavered through the years. "It's not every day our pride is threatened with strange omens and bad tidings," she returned. "Anyone would be on edge when you've lived a life of relative serenity and peace." She had, anyway. It was only now that she had stepped up to this role that things had gone south, first with their neighbors and now this. Perhaps she was a bad luck charm. Finally her questions, both verbal and silent, were answered. She gave a quiet 'ah', having heard stories of hybrids but never having seen one herself, she could only guess as to how a tail of a half lion, half leopard would look. "Mali. I am Fireheart," she said, returning the information. It was only fair. "You've been gone for some time," she added as she sat as well. So far this meeting wasn't as bad as she thought it would go, so she could afford to relax. "My whole lifetime, in fact. Were story tellers known to disappear for so long? And, more importantly, why return now?" She arched a brow, not letting up with her intent stare.

"Omens shmomens," the goddess shook her head slightly, "I don't think omens mean much at all. And I don't think there's that much of a risk to the pride. Granted, can't ever be too careful, you're right but... you might want to be careful or the next thing you know is you'll end up seeing omens and bad tidings in the way a leaf is shaped, or the way a pebble hits the water," she smiled, though it was meant in comfort, almost as if she were talking from experience, "And then, well... what would separate you from the insane, muse-talking lions you people apparently seem to fear and repel so much?" her head turned towards the water, not that far away, but as Fireheart offered her name, the goddess briefly turned to look at her, allowing another small, soft smile to grace her maw before turning back to the seas.
"I remember the muses," she said, "Didn't really have much of one. All that travelling; didn't really allow for it unless you count the sky as my constant companion," a pause followed, her gaze dragging away from the water and back to the queen, "But I do remember. Wasn't like what you people seem to think it was. I guess the only ones left to remind people of those times are the ones too far gone to understand," she shook her head, "Like poor Miakis. Most of us weren't like that. We had fighters, guards, hunters... only the dreamers were uhm... special, shall we say."
She allowed her words to sink in before she visibly winced, her ears flopping down in a rather sheepish gesture; the lioness looked almost comical, embarrassed, "It's... well, it's a bit of an embarrassing story but I kind of got captured. A moving band of slave keepers found me roaming and well... they didn't really ask a lot of questions, really, just did their thing, took me in and it took me quite a long while to manage to get out of there on my own. Couldn't actually call for help in my situation, you see, and talking about the pride, sending a message, etc, was out of the question," it wasn't the truth, but it was close; she'd been prisoner of her own mind for a while and... she couldn't even remember what had happened to her. All she knew was that one day she'd been at Kizi the next... she'd woken up at the same time the Kizi's curse had been lifted and she'd been far, far away, with the knowledge that quite enough time had passed to see her latest litter almost to adulthood, "As for why return now, well... " she looked around, "This is my home. It's always been home. Why not?" that, however, was 100% true.

"No?" Fireheart asked, an unimpressed look on her face. "It's not as if we live day to day looking for them. This is the first I've heard of, and any threat to our pride is to be taken seriously." Granted, Mali did have a point. Believe one omen, and you started to look for them everywhere. It would remain to be seen if this one had any weight behind it, and they could move on from there. As the lioness started to tell her story, the queen adopted a more amused expression. Captured? Well, that was one for the record books. She had heard all kinds of stories from those who wandered into the rouge lands, but this one took the cake. "Well. I am glad you made it back in one piece," she said. Mali didn't look too worse for the wear, so the slave keepers must have treated her well. Either that or she took the time to make herself presentable before coming back. "So. You were voicing your opinion when the strangers came," she said, turning the topic to the point that she was trying to make: would this lioness be for or against the bad tidings that were to come? She needed to figure out what the pride wanted in order to try to deal with this problem. She had her own ideas of muses but, as the queen, she wasn't speaking just for herself. "What do you think about these muses returning? You said you didn't have one yourself, or much of one...would you be against their return?"

"I'm not particularly proud of it, granted. A gypsy, captured. Terrible, if you ask me," this from the lioness that had, not even minutes prior, bested Shandor at Hide and Seek, not to mention rough housing. Granted, the Queen didn't know that, and something told her that the King's pride would not allow him to tell Fireheart those tidbits of information.
"Hmmm?" her gaze returned, focused, sharp, her head tilting a bit, "Well, I know things have changed, times have changed. I just... I come from a time where we welcomed everyone into our land. It was quite peaceful. I know you guys do things differently, but I don't know, as far as threats go, those two looked harmless to me," she snorted slightly, waving a paw, "The girl was even smaller than I am! And while the male was large, he looked way too tired to be a threat to anyone but himself, if you count him probably falling face first off a cliff out of lack of sleep or something."
Fireheart's next question caught her off guard though and for a moment, the lioness looked surprised, as if she couldn't really believe she was being asked such a question; not because she was for or against it but rather because... despite masquerading as a mortal, it was not often she managed to keep up the charade long enough to be considered an actual member. To have an actual opinion, it was strange; she was used to being listened to, but not because people wanted to hear her opinion on things. Rather, because they feared her, or wanted to appease her, or worshiped her.
It was...
It was a nice feeling, and Muhali swiftly decided she could live with this.
"In all honesty?" she told the queen, her demeanor apparently sobering a good deal, almost as if the queen was talking to someone else; someone more serious, intelligent and wise than the lioness that had been talking about having been captured, "I think the pride's doing just fine as it is. The muses were fine too, but there's no longer a need for them. They did the job, and the pride's stronger for it; I like what I see, and I don't see why we should go back to the past. I like things the way they are now. It's a strong, united pride as it is. They're not needed, and besides," her gaze turned towards the sea just beyond once more, "Unless they've managed to capture the Goddess and are able to command her, which I doubt anyone can... the muses are not coming back. I'm pretty sure she's happy with the way things are now, otherwise we'd know," she grinned back at the Queen, all semblance of wisdom gone out the window, "In short, I think it's all baloney. If the Goddess wanted the muses back, all she'd have to do is snap her fingers. Why send followers. Ridiculous, don't you think?"

Fireheart shook her head. "I expect no trouble from them," she said quietly. "The threat is what comes after them, and therefore I'm treating them warily. I realize he's a seer, but the fact that he came here from the kindness of his heart...surely no normal lion would do that." It was just all a bit odd to her. As Mali went on about the muses, she relaxed a bit. Good...she wasn't the only one that didn't want them back. She knew the general feeling at the small gathering of lions had been negative, but there were those that hadn't shown up or spoken up that would enjoy having them back. That was where this was difficult...as the queen, she needed to act how the pride wished her to. She was the voice of every lion and lioness there, and she needed to be fair. Her own ideals and priorities were of little importance. She hummed quietly, glancing off to the ocean with a frown. She had heard of things that could alter a lion's mind, like fermented fruits, and she was wary of those things as well as this new development. "Perhaps they have a different kind of muse...a different way of getting one," she said quietly. "One that isn't a curse. Or blessing. One that is taken from nature herself. Which is why I'm so wary," she added, looking back to Mali. "If this isn't a god or goddess...what could it be? I'd rather be dealing with one of those beings than something no one is familiar with."

Muhali's maw opened... and then closed, having been rendered speechless for a few moments, her brows knitting together, "I... huh," a pause, "Huh, I hadn't really thought about that possibility," but then again, in her defense, there was also very little nature in nature itself; everything was powered, overlooked and ruled by a god; it didn't matter if it was the sky, the sea, a cave... all came from Mkodi in the end.
Still, she figured it was the Kizi way to expect the unexpected, and given that the unexpected this time was the ordinary, rather than the supernatural, she had to give kudos to the young queen sitting by her side, "That's quite sharp, actually, but..." she shook her head, "I don't think we have to worry about that. I know a thing or two about the muses, the blessing and how it came to be. Insanity is many things and it can manifest in many ways, sometimes in terrible, horrible ways but... it does not come from nature," her paw lifted, a claw drawn out as she poked her own temple, under the light blue bangs that hung careless over her face, "It comes from the mind; it's something that attacks from within, when it's your enemy. It doesn't come from the air, and it's not a disease you can suddenly catch by being near someone. If these folk this seer talks about have muses, you have nothing to worry about; can't really go insane by being near someone insane; that takes magic."
She was rather more worried over the queen's mindset about kindness in general than the risk of the muses coming back. After all, for the later to happen, Muhali was quite sure she would have to intervene, and she had no plans to do so, for the time being, "One would think you've had an unusually harsh life, hon, the way you talk. It's usually rogues that tend to think that way about kindness and others in general. If I help you, is that suspicious? Or is it being we're pride mates that I can help without it being odd?" her head tilted to one side as she spoke, "Sometimes, people do good things for no reason at all. Sometimes... people do bad thing for no reason at all. There always has to be light for a shadow to be cast. You'll find both types in the world, though granted, there's far more of the later than the former, or they're more noisy, I don't know which it is," the goddess stretched out the upper part of her frame on the ground, obviously working out some kinks and soreness before she lay down on the sand, now looking up at the queen with a smile, "I don't mean you should trust them; by no means. Keep an eye on them until they prove to be trustworthy, but... do realize that there are good people, just like there are bad people in this world, aye? What would you do, if you found a lion in desperate need for help? A complete stranger, that would otherwise die or come to harm if you overlooked him? Would you walk past them, given that it's none of your business, or would you help them despite the fact you have nothing to gain from it? What would you do then?"

Fireheart flexed her claws into the earth beneath her as she thought about what Mali had to say. It was true that insanity wasn't something that readily came and went. It was something that affected the lion and didn't leave them. With the fruits, lions would become incoherent and rather silly for a bit, perhaps a few hours at most, before returning to their normal self. That wasn't how insanity worked. How could something from nature cast a lasting effect like that? It couldn't, she wagered, and if this mind-altering group of lions came with strange herbs or flowers, she would be sure to cast them into the ocean to let the sea beasts enjoy their effects. "I suppose it would be easy to rid this band of strangers if their 'insanity' was from sniffing a certain flower or eating a certain fruit," she admitted quietly. They could banish them and their paraphernalia and that would be the end of it. That didn't help her uneasy feeling, though. It would leave once this problem was dealt with. Her ears flicked up sharply and she narrowed her eyes as Mali changed the subject to herself. She let her say her piece, finding that once again she was right in assuming she wouldn't let a lion lay hurt and unattended, but it wasn't quite as simple as that. "I had a very nice life, actually. I couldn't have asked for better. It is because I had that life that I am suspicious. I want the same for every cub that has been or will be born into these lands and letting threats, no matter how small, float by without a care will not see that done." She took a deep breath to calm the fire burning in her chest and continued in a calmer tone of voice. "Of course I would help if I were in that situation, and I recognize that there are good and evil in the world. But me helping one lone lion who I founded battered and bruised is very different from two lions coming to our lands preaching words of warning. It's not every day this happens, as I'm sure you realize. Once the issue has been resolved perhaps I can thank them for giving us warning, but for now they are, as you said, to be watched." Fireheart fell silent after that, flicking her gaze out to the sea once more. She didn't like to admit when she was wrong, but this strange lioness was bringing up very good points and making her see the two strangers for something more than a threat. Perhaps they were a godsend, giving them time to prepare for the threat that was to come. Only time would tell, of course, and should she find herself eating her words, she made a promise to herself to apologize to the strangers and thank the blue lioness before her.

"Ah, but see," the lioness smiled as she looked up at the queen, "I don't think you realize just how similar both situations are. Think about it, but this time... think about it from a seer's point of view," she again raised a claw, tapping the side of her head lightly, "Imagine, just for a second, that you have the gift of sight, and you're either convinced that what you see comes true, or it's been proven that what you see comes true. And now..." she lowered a paw, her claw drawing a cliff on the sand as she spoke, "Imagine that you had a vision where a random stranger fell off a cliff. Would you go warn them? I'm pretty sure /I/ would do so if it were in my power to stop the lion from falling off the cliff, eh?" her paw brushed over the small drawing she'd done and smiled up again, "Now, replace the lion with a whole pride, and the cliff with some unknown danger the seer is pretty sure is coming there way. See what I'm getting at? I think it's the same situation, expect the seer has the potential to stop it, rather than help after the fact."
Muhali had noticed the fact Fireheart had gotten defensive, but she still wished to at least explain what she meant, "I think it's admirable," she said, "What you do, I mean," she looked towards the sea, the sand, the forest; towards the whole territory that they could oversee from their place on the sand, "The way you take on the weight of the world for all of them. All of us, now, I guess. I should include myself," she chuckled lightly, finding it almost ironic, and then continued, "But always remember that there's so much worry you can stack on those shoulders of yours before you break. Don't teach them to be paranoid, or threatened by the unknown, but... also don't let them live in utter bliss, like times before. I think there's a fine balance there; I'm sure you'll find it though. You're extremely sharp, specially for your age," she stretched on the sand again, closing her eyes in bliss as the last rays of sun of the day bathed her fur, "You make me feel so old," she chuckled, "Old as I am, and I still learn new things to this very day."
A long pause followed, and then she opened her eyes, "Oh, by the way, after we're done here, you might want to go to the forest and fetch the gypsy king from there. Last I saw him, he was sputtering, frozen, and looking a bit like an idiot. Given our guests... it's probably best they don't find him like that in there," for a moment, she looked much like that cat that had eaten the canary, but it was brief, "He tries hard, too, that one. But I think he's really scared; probably the one that's more scared at the moment," she didn't quite know the male's history but... she'd heard snippets here and there enough to more or less piece the pieces together.

As Mali continued to speak and show her points she'd never considered, Fireheart tried her best not to scowl. Instead she kept her eyes narrowed and nodded from time to time to show she was listening. If there was one thing she learned, it was to listen to your elders, for they have been through far more than she. "As gifted as seers are, I can't imagine they all have good intentions," she said quietly. "Even you said there are light and dark people everywhere. Just because someone is a seer doesn't mean they will use their powers for the better." There were some very unkind and even evil gods out there that they could have come from, after all. Those that were born with the 'gift' were a bit more unbiased at birth, but any lion could take any shape as they grew as far as good and evil went. She gave a soft snort as the lioness continued on, ignoring the part about breaking. She wouldn't, that much she was sure of. Nothing had broken her yet, and she didn't plan on letting it happen any time soon. Of course, she was young...she had her whole life ahead of her to be proven wrong. "Riddle Mouth? Sputtering and looking like an idiot?" she asked, arching a brow very slightly as the subject changed yet again. "Well, that would be a sight to see, for sure." But as she listened further, she had the suspicion that she was right. When the muses had been brought up, there had been a change in the way the gypsy king held himself. Fireheart only noticed because she'd been around him of often as of late. It wasn't a normal thing for him to be nervous or even slightly fearful, and perhaps that was part of the reason why she was so on edge. He had the experience, he had the warriors of the pride, but he was still scared? You couldn't battle insanity with claws and fangs, she told herself. This was something that was out of his league. "Noted," she finally said, tail swishing a bit. "I'll be sure to see if he needs any assistance." The still somewhat pinched expression finally relaxed as she shifted her weight, indicating she would head off soon. "Well. Welcome back, Mali. I'm sorry you've come home at such a turbulent time, but this will hopefully pass without incident and we can get on with our lives. I've heard you'll be helping with the Mummers Ball?"

As Fireheart spoke, the goddess nodded, "Oh, yes, yes indeed," she gave an involuntary shudder as she spoke, almost as if recollecting some past experience or something along those lines, "I've come across such lot before. Dastardly people, that use their gift in awful ways. To climb ranks in a pride, to orchestrate assassinations, to kill, to murder, to cheat... you name it," she let out a sigh, "Like with every source of power, there's always those that kinda harness it for evil. It's a just how life is; but then, if there weren't evil, we wouldn't really be able to recognize true kindness," she waved a paw, "It's a bit of a push and pull. I guess, what I was trying to say is that it's good to be cautious, but... be careful with being too cautious, because then you'll be turning away both the good and the evil and... I don't know. Seems a bit of a shame, don't it?"
As the queen snorted softly, Muhali couldn't help but grin; such fire, such will to live and to better one-self. The pride honestly couldn't have asked for a better leader than her. She was good foil to the king, too, as far as ruling went, and... the goddess had to admit meeting both monarch had taken a load off her shoulders. Not only was her pride fine after their awakening, but flourishing. She couldn't have asked for more, really.
"Uh... yeaaaaah," she drawled out the word a bit and the grimaced slightly, "I kind of... I did a thing, and I think I kind of broke his mind for a moment there, just a tiny bit," she said almost sheepishly, "And I was only trying to sort of, well... trip him up a little bit, because gods knows he needed to be proved wrong for once. And well, give that he's not come out of the forest yet, I think he took it a bit harder than I intended him to."
A broad smile spread her maw when she noticed the lioness shift her weight; another test passed, as far as Muhali was concerned. Not only that, but it seems both lionesses would leave the conversation a little more enlightened, with was always good, "Ah, yes. Need to talk to Nema 'bout that, but given uhm... recent event, it's sort of been put a tiny lil bit on hold. Hopefully not for long though, gods willing," she stood up again, stretched and turned to look at the lower, bent palm tree that hung over the ocean, "I'll leave you to your rounds; bet you want to check on the strangers, make sure they're all nice an' cozy and safe inside their den before nightfall, then," she winked at that before continuing, "I think I'm going to go ahead and turn in for the night. I want to get up and explore some more early in the morning, now that I'm back. Place hasn't changed that much, but it's still nice to know your way around in case something actually goes down."
There was a small dip of her head as the small, blue lioness got up and slowly padded away towards the perch she'd been eyeing.SilverLutz And ... one more from you and close I think? *highfive*

Fireheart arched a brow as the lioness confessed to being the one to flabbergast Riddle Mouth. That was hard to believe, but at this point in time, she didn't think too much about it. "Mm. Well, enjoy getting to re-learn the lands. Should you need anything, myself or one of my family should be around. Ask them to alert me and I'll see what I can do for you," she said with a slight nod. With that, she turned her nose back to the jungle where Mali had emerged from and set off, a curious expression on her face. Shandor left speechless? This she had to see.
